FACULTY COMMITTEE STUDENT MEMBERS

The faculty committees serve various functions in the Law School’s administration and governance. Each committee sits two student members who represent the student body’s perspective and provide valuable input for important committee decisions.

The Admissions and Financial Aid Committee deals with issues regarding admissions and financial aid at the Law School. Student representatives: Elizabeth Massaro (3L) and Claire Norsetter (2L).

The Curriculum Committee determines the student body’s desires for the curriculum. This committee then brings those desires to the administration’s attention and, along with the administration, discovers ways to effectuate those desires. Student representatives: Ian McFarland (3L) and Colleen Marion (2L).

The Faculty Appointments Committee is chiefly involved with hiring new faculty at the Law School. Student representatives: Rich Greenlee (3L) and Chris Byers (2L).

The Student Career Opportunities Committee works with the Career Services staff to ascertain how that office might better serve students’ career needs. Student representatives: Larry Fogel (3L) and Ally Amerson (2L).

The Student Disabilities Committee brings the needs of disabled students to the administration’s attention and endeavors to improve the Law School’s environment for students with disabilities. Student representatives: Sarah Anderson (3L) and Sara Stellpflug (2L).

The Tenure Committee decides whether to grant tenure by reviewing a professor’s scholarship, teaching, and service to the Law School. Student representatives focus mainly on evaluating a professor’s teaching and service. Student representatives: Delanie Breuer (3L) and Janet Mitchell (2L).

The faculty committee student members will periodically report committee activities to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, who will announce these updates as necessary at the general Student Bar Council meetings. Collectively, the student members of the faculty committees comprise the SBA Steering Committee. The Steering Committee serves to promote communication among the various faculty committees, the Student Bar Council, and the general student body. Ultimately, the Steering Committee’s goal is encouraging and facilitating student voice in the Law School’s administration and academic affairs.

Contact Jason Foster at jdfoster@wisc.edu with any questions.

Student representatives: Sarah Anderson (3L) and Sara Stellpflug (2L).

The Tenure Committee decides whether to grant tenure by reviewing a professor’s scholarship, teaching, and service to the Law School.

Dear Students,

As student representatives to the Tenure committee, we would like your help in gathering information for the upcoming consideration of Professor Alison Christians for a promotion to Associate Professor with tenure. The Tenure Committee has all of the teaching evaluations and information on Professor Christians’ service to the students and the law school, but we would like to supplement that dossier with anecdotes or other comments from students who have worked with Professor Christians either in class, as a mentor, or otherwise through the law school.

We are asking any of you that have information you would like to add to Professor Christians’ file to email responsible comments (this is not an opportunity to gripe about the law school) to us at breuer2@wisc.edu by Monday, September 13th. Alternatively, written comments can be left in Delanie Breuer’s hang file. These comments can be as long or as short as you like. Of course comments should be honest and complete and so merely glowing comments by themselves are not helpful. We prefer that comments not be anonymously given, but if you are only comfortable with an anonymous submission, such comments will be accepted. All comments will remain confidential and will be added to Professor Christians’ tenure dossier, but Professor Christians will not see them. These comments will be reviewed by faculty members of the tenure committee at the law school, and university faculty members of the divisional committee who will also vote on the dossier. All comments will be used solely for the purpose of evaluation for promotion of Professor Christians.

This is our opportunity, as students, to take part in the evaluation and promotion process at UW Law. We genuinely hope you can take a few minutes to participate in this important process, and have a say in the future of our staff. If you have questions, please feel free to email them to either of us atbreuer2@wisc.edu or jcmitchell2@wisc.edu.

Sincerely,

Incoming Student Mentorship Program 2010-2011

We are still looking for more mentors! Make a difference in a new student’s experience!

Thank you to everyone who has submitted an application! Due to increased enrollment projections, we now need about 30 more mentors to keep the ratio of mentors to mentees at 1:2.

This program serves as a useful resource to help introduce incoming students to law school life and broaden their access to all the University of Wisconsin Law School has to offer. The program’s mission is to provide an opportunity for new students to connect with a 2L or 3L who is knowledgeable about Wisconsin Law, in order to ease the transition into our law school.

Some of the things we hope you can provide are: an immediate connection with a current law student who can offer a full picture of law school life and answer questions; friendly advice in a supportive environment; and informal, individualized guidance. The extent of your involvement is mostly up to you and your mentees. We only ask that you make reasonable attempts to meet with your mentees at least once per month for the first semester.

To participate, please complete the application form located at [ https://uwmadison.qualtrics.com/SE?SID=SV_9Y0BtsOx5JGwVpi ]. We use the information you provide to match you with the incoming students. Except for your name, phone number, and email, your information will be kept strictly confidential.

We hope you will help support an integral part of what makes attending the University of Wisconsin Law School a world-class experience!
Please contact Jason Foster at jdfoster@wisc.edu for additional information or with any questions.
