Since we started this blog, we’ve asked companies and entrepreneurs to complete our online form and tell us about their business. We’ve had quite a few submissions, and it’s time we start sharing some of these success stories with our community.

Entrepreneur of the Week: Ultimate Bagels

Ultimate Bagels is Santa Barbara’s newest bagel shop, located at 1226 State Street in downtown. Ultimate Bagels opened its doors in November 2009 and quickly established itself as a must-try spot for bagel lovers and foodies alike. The shop has an extensive menu, offering bagels in non-traditional flavors like acai along with old favorites like Cinnamon-Raisin. Ultimate Bagels is a great place to enjoy a bagel and a cup of locally-roasted coffee with friends.

Q: What’s the scoop on Ultimate Bagels?
A: Ultimate bagels opened in November 2009 in downtown Santa Barbara on historic State Street. Our phone number, address, menu and hours can all be found on our website.

Q: What do you aim to provide your customers?
A: We strive to provide exceptional customer service while also delivering the freshest, healthiest and tastiest bagels in Santa Barbara. By also offering fresh, high-quality meats, veggies, cheeses, and spreads, we allow our customers to create their own Ultimate Bagel every time.

Q:  How many employees do you have?
A: We currently employ nine people.

Q: Have you had funding?
A: Yes, from family and friends.

Q: Tell us one thing you love about doing business in Santa Barbara?
A: I love being part of such an awesome community! As a local business, we at Ultimate Bagels understand the important of community involvement. We do a number of things to support our community and do our best to support as many local organizations as possible. Aside from purchasing local produce and locally-roasted coffee beans, the walls of Ultimate Bagels are adorned with art from local artists. We also donate bagels to a variety of local organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara, Case Esperanza Homeless Shelter, the Unity Shoppe, and United Cerebral Palsy of Santa Barbara County.

There are three featured dogs this week!

First up are older adult Geranimo (on left) and 4-5 year-old Molly (on right.) They are purebred altered male and female min-pins, about 9 or 10 lbs each.

Geranimo and Molly are adorable, sweet as can be, lively, and self-entertaining. They have lived together since Molly was a puppy and need to be adopted together.

Next up is Tank, a neutered male mixed-breed puppy born this past March, currently weighing in at 30 lbs. His mom is a purebred min-pin and his dad is probably a medium-sized terrier.

Tank was the largest puppy of the litter. He is smart, playful, happy, eager-to-please, and enjoys learning. He’ll respond well to training and consistency with someone who is smarter than he is. He loves being with people and is great with other dogs.

The MIT Enterprise Forum of the Central Coast presents “The Mad Men & Women of the Central Coast: The Next Wave of Advertising Innovation”

Join the “Mad Men and Women” of the Central Coast online advertising community as they talk about the next wave of innovative online and offline advertising, the current state of advertising, and the future of the industry.

Industry veterans Jeff Green, Founder and CEO of Trade Desk, Lisa Riolo, Co-Founder of Impact Radius, and Frank Gerstenberger, VP of Product Management at Audience Science will present their latest ventures and discuss ideas and opinions that help their companies and the Central Coast, leading the way in the advertising industry.

Catalyst for Thought invites you to their Sync event, featuring speaker Jim Wolfe, President/CEO of the Balance Bar Company.

An adorable litter of puppies were born at DAWG on April 6.  All spayed/neutered, all have their shots and vet clearance to go home. Among the possible breeds contributing to their gene pool are pit bull terrier, doxie, pointer, lab.  Bully breed experience and puppy experience helpful. A puppy obedience/socialization  class will be required for adoption.

The puppies are waiting patiently for a loving home – find them at DAWG, 5480 Overpass Rd., Goleta.
