SCAN and new generation of the social networks

SCAN technology has been adopted to build the client part of experimental People-Concepts Network (PCN). PCN is a prototype of a social network service where people are connected automatically via shared topics of interests extracted from their texts.

PCN is developed by University of Nottingham as a part of EU Laboranova project (http://laboranova.com). The prototype is available for public beta testing at http://128.243.93.142/pcn-server/.

More information:
http://blog.cyberborean.org/2009/04/07/people-concept-networking
http://blog.cyberborean.org/2009/07/01/pcn-beta-announce

New Web location plugin released

Web plugin enables web-sites to be used as SCAN document sources. It works as a crawler which follows hyperlinks on web-pages and adds them recursively to the repository, starting from a specified URL address.

The plugin supports flexible configuration of a crawling scope, including recursion depth, host and directory name limitations. Standard URL filtering by include/exclude patterns is supported as well.

Parsed web-pages are cached to increase speed and minimize traffic overhead during location update process. A value of “Last-modified” HTTP header is used to determine if a newer version of a cached web-page exists and should be downloaded.

The plugin understand HTML META tags to fill Description/Author properties and optionally can import META Keywords values as a document tags.

http://scan.sourceforge.net/?page_id=32

Download: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=189359&package_id=285396
