Earlier this year, we were happy to make the announcement of the updated mobile apps in our Twitter account. Dark mode can extend your phone’s battery life significantly. It might be also easier for your eyes in low light conditions. OBD Auto Doctor honors your phone’s system settings to use or not to use the dark theme. You have full control of the used theme.

OBD2 Trouble Codes or Diagnostic Trouble Codes are defined by SAE (Society of Automobile Engineers). SAE is the organization that specifies the OBD2 standards. These include the one that defines all the generic Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Car manufacturers follow these definitions when they assign DTCs for detected errors.

The latest update of OBD Auto Doctor for Android added support for OBD WiFi adapters. So now the Android app supports both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapters. Although not as easy to setup as Bluetooth adapters, Wi-Fi adapters are good choice for those who consider switching from/to iPhone. The price of the OBD Wi-Fi adapters has considerable lowered in the last couple of years, which has brought the adapters to the awareness of new consumers.

OBD Auto Doctor OBD2 app for iPhone is now available from the Apple app store!

The app works now perfectly even with the new iOS 8 released just few weeks ago. The very first version of the app had some layout issues with iOS 8 but now all those issues are gone. The app works fine with iOS 7 too but older versions are not supported.

Multiple control units supported in Android

In the previous app update for Android (version 2.2) we added support for multiple control units. The most common and usually the only control unit is the Engine Control Module. However, newer cars are starting to have more than the ECU responding to OBD2 requests. Most cars with automatic transmission have Transmission Control Module (TCM) available for example. There can be also other controllers depending on the manufacturer and model.

We published new versions for Windows Phone and Android few days ago. These updates contained some improvements to connection establishing and some bug fixes. However, the greatest value these updates brought is the 16 new sensors that were added. All of these are totally free for all existing customers. However, remember that your car needs to support the sensors too in order for the app to be able to show the values.

People usually get interested in the On-Board Diagnostics when the Malfunction Indicator Light illuminates on the dashboard of their cars. The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is also known as the Check Engine Light. The purpose of this warning light is to indicate a detected problem with the car and alert the driver about the issue.

The OBD2 system illuminates the light when there is a problem with the car’s engine, transmission or emission control system. The light turns on only for a reason and you should not ignore it. You should always investigate the cause.
