As I mentioned above I was offered a product of my choice for review, I decided on a cute summer dress for my grand-daughter Kayden. The dress looked so cute online and I knew it would look adorable on her. The pictures on their site doesn’t do this dress justice. The cute little yellow satin bow on the front of the dress, wraps around for tying in the back. It has a bubble type hem line, and is completely lined. The black and white and yellow are a great color combination.

EastPak T-shirt {Review}

I was recently given the chance to review a t-shirt made by EastPak. If you aren’t aware EastPak is famous for their backpacks. Knowing the EastPak brand well when I was asked to review the t-shirt I happily accepted.

The t-shirt was made from nice quality cotton material, I loved how it was super soft and comfy against my skin.  After a couple washes it got even softer. I have to mention the stitching on this t-shirt, as a person that sews I tend to look at the stitching on many of the things I buy. The stitching is done well and you can tell it was made to last. Double fold and double stitched edges will keep this t-shirt from stretching and coming loose at the seams. Even the tags in this tee screams quality, I love the little saying on it, ” if you ain’t out to impress, don’t stress. Iron once in a lifetime or less.”

I ordered a medium as you can see from the picture it came just below my hips, which was fine. But I think I could have used a large for my upper body. I normally wear my t-shirts a bit looser.  The arm band has a little tag on it, which I thought added a little quality touch.

Being the persistent woman that I am, I haven’t given up on the job market. There has to be someone out there looking for my skills and willing to hire a stay at home mom who wants to get back into the workforce. If you remember from part 1 of this series, I’ve been looking for a job a good while now. (link opens in new window)

Almost a month later and I sit before you no closer to getting hired than I was then. On the up side of it all is that I have gotten a new suit, (a $120 suit for $27 at JcPenny) my nails and hair done. Downside I’ve interviewed only a hand full of times. I think with each interview I do, I get better at it. I’ve learned that two things can happen after interviewing numerous times. 1- you learn to have more confidence and you walk into the next with that “this is the one attitude, now knock’em dead” or 2 – you start to lose faith in yourself and wonder if there is something wrong with you, your resume’ etc. I’ve literally experienced both. I lost faith redid my resume, had the hub’s look over it, sent it to a friend and he even sent it out to several companies for me. Eventually I regained the confidence and faith in myself. I just need the patience… I guess.

Job hunting {am I being too picky?}

I always keep a spreadsheet of the jobs I’ve applied for, with the company’s name, position I applied for and contact info. Does that sound weird to you? Well I assume there are a few reasons I do this, I know one reason is so I can track where I’ve applied and if I got a response. Part of the adventure is seeing who responds to my resume. After looking over where I’ve applied I have come to the conclusion that No, I am not being picky. I did apply at McDonald’s remember? If you don’t you can read more about that adventure here. So this has led to ask myself  Deb, what are you looking for in an employer?

Job hunting {what do I look for in an employer?}

I want a company that is parent-friendly, that offers their employees comprehensive benefits. How about a company with an on-site child care center? I want to work for a company that treats me like I am somebody and not  just a number. A company that sees my potential to do the job, that respects my confident attitude, my sense of humor, and my warm personality. I want the company to see me the person, not me on paper.

It’s not just about me, I also want to work for a company that cares about their service or product. By this I mean that even after they do the service, sell the product they care about how it works, etc. Am I asking for too much?

Job hunting {ideal jobs}

I decided maybe it would help me if I wrote a list of ideal jobs, or jobs I know I have the potential to do and do well at with little training.

I’d love to work remotely for a company like Global Response’s contact center, they sound like the perfect company. Did I mention that they have on site child care too? I know right!! I already have the background as an assistant to the V.P of sales in a call center, so I know I’d do well working in one. I might not be good at selling, but I know the operations end of it.

I have a robe that is 12 years old, I got it to wear in the hospital after having my youngest. It’s such a comfy robe but I am afraid it’s probably seen it’s better days.  You’ve heard that saying “When it rains, it pours”? Well that’s exactly what has happened to me. I went to put on my favorite quick walk to the mailbox sandals and the strap broke. That’s strike two Deb!! Two down, one more to go!!  You know that other saying “it comes in threes!” Yes, that is the kind of luck I’ve had these past two weeks.

Finally facing the fact that not only did my favorite robe need to be replaced, but now my favorite sandals too.  While I was debating shopping online or fighting traffic and dealing with the crowds at the mall, I  remembered that while at the movies a couple of weeks ago, my favorite cardigan also had a malfunction. There you go that’s three!! See what I mean when it rains, it pours. The good thing is that I think I really did my monies worth on those 3 things, 12 years on a robe, 7 on sandals and 3 on the cardigan. Not bad … right?

In with the new . . . shopping done …

I decided to browse online, then go out to shop if I couldn’t find affordable things online. I normally won’t buy online if it’s going to cost me more to have it shipped, than it would cost for gas. First the robe, I knew I didn’t want one with a belt.  My last one had a belt and every time I washed it I had put it back through the loops.  I found a cute women’s snap front robe, that wasn’t expensive while searching.

I wanted to get everything from the same place, after searching a little while I came across some cute closed toe sandals for women. This is turning out better than I thought it would. Two down now if I can find the new cardigan It’ll be sweet!! A few more minutes and I a cute little tahari simirita ruffle cardigan!! (*dances around the room) After telling the hub’s I found everything on one site and they weren’t expensive, he reminded me that I also wanted some new workout shorts. I know this sounds like a weird request but here’s what I wanted women mesh shorts with small leg hole. Basically the mesh (not really mesh, but that’s what they call them) type shorts you’d wear for working out, and the small leg hole is because I don’t like the wider legged ones. I also don’t like the biker shorts type either.

This was only the start of my down pour, but the rest is for another day. Just thinking about the other stuff wears me out. Regardless it all worked out in the end, so I am thankful for that.

They are intended by ages 3+ (small pieces are a potential choking hazard)  The Moshi Monster run on a AG13/LR44 battery which is included. There are 3 different play-sets to choose from, starter set, large starter set and the specialty ones like cobblestone garden, ice cream store and many others. The little Moshi Monsters are the cutest things ever!! I received the Cobblestone Garden and Ice Cream Shop for review. They were easy to set up, and switch things around. The pieces snap in and out of the main play area. Just add the pieces, switch on your moshi monster and be ready to giggle, laugh and have fun. I can’t wait for my granddaughter to arrive next month, she will love these!

You can hear the giggles in the background : ) The second video you’ll notice I moved things around. I wanted to see if my monster could/would push the bush around (it did!) Now that Noah is at that age where he’s finding his way, and being encouraged at school to think about his future. He’s been talking about video production, photography and the likes. He is like both his parents nerdy, geeky, and loves all things techie. Every once in a while he bring his laptop to our room, or office and show us another new video he’s created with a program he’s downloaded. They are really cute, funny and seem to be well done. I started thinking that it would be nice to see if there are any summer camps that teach some of the fundamentals of what he loves to do.

After spending some time searching, I found some but one really caught my eye. It’s in Miami (close to where I grew up), they have 2 day summer camps for several of the production fields. They offer classes for photography, web video production, magazine publishing and many more. I think Noah would enjoy doing this, I know it’s in Miami but we’ve been talking about heading down there for a mini summer break. Perfect huh? Noah can do the camp, and I can be lazy and lounge on the beach. Not only that it’s on the weekend of my birthday. *big smiles* I think the camp is also affordable and it will give Noah a chance to get his feet wet and really see what it involves.

It’s being discussed and when/if we do go I’ll take tons of pictures while we are there. How have you encouraged your child(ren) to do the things they are interested in? Have you considered a summer camp for their interest?

I love the color, I have many black handbags but didn’t have any brown ones. I wanted a bag that would match a suit I had for interviews, this turned out to be perfect.  It is roomy enough to carry all the beauty things us women carry around, my cell phone, journal, my kindle and for all those things that somehow find their way into them. (little gadgets and goodies our family hands to us while out).

The bag is made of  faux leather exterior with a zipper entry, a little pocket with zipper on the back, a cell phone pocket, wall pocket and a center compartment on the interior, all with zipper closures. Baby Signing Time – My Review -

I decided to review Baby Signing Time Vol. 1: It’s Baby Signing Time, because my newest grand baby is only 9 months old. I  wanted to start with something that her older sister (4 in June) could learn from too. I know very few signs and this will also be a great start for me. I can’t wait to sit down with my family and start learning to sign.

One of the main reasons I decided to do this review was not only the fact that I believe it’s important for us to be able to communicate with “everyone” we may meet. But also because my grand-daughter Kayden is slightly delayed in speech. I think this will be a great way for her to communicate better with us, and give her a better feeling about communicating. I see her getting frustrated now at not being able to be completely understood, this breaks my heart and I fear it keeps her from trying.

Our world is surrounded by people who can’t hear, that have other conditions that affect their speech which makes communicating with others difficult. We can help them, and ourselves by learning to communicate in a language they understand. If by me learning a few signs brings a smile to someone’s face it’s well worth any efforts I put into it.
