Hello Schmoeville!

First off, we want to thank everybody for checking out our weekly previews article. It was a lot of fun to put together, and we can’t wait to bring it to you every single week! As always, any suggestions you have for our comic book coverage is more than welcome.

Secondly, if we’re going to preview we might as well review, right? So here it is, the first installment of our weekly reviews column here on SchmoesKnow.com!

AQUAMAN #20

This wasn’t so much a “BUY” as it was a “BORROW.” Though, I will say, it was surprisingly good. Aquaman has been a solid read from the first issue, but it hasn’t been one that I’ve consistently looked forward to, but this one was a lot of fun, brought back Aquaman’s old team “The Others” and gave each of them a moment to shine. I especially loved seeing “Prisoner of War” command his Ghost Soldiers. Some great stuff in here.

-MK

BATMAN INCORPORATED #11

So, this may have been the biggest disappointment for me this week. I was all pumped to see some Batman-man-bat action continued from last week, but all we got was the Batman of Japan beating up some disfigured bikers trying to get back in league with Leviathan. I mean, yes, there were some great set pieces and some really fun action, but every single time I turned the page, my brain said, “maybe this next page will give me what I came here for…” and sadly, it never did. My recommendation, reread #10 and get excited for #12, but you can skip this one.

-MK

FLASH #20

Now that’s more like it. I said in this week’s preview that I hoped this was the issue that would renew my enjoyment of The Flash, and I am pleased to say “mission accomplished”. With an eventual showdown with Reverse-Flash looming, the beginning of this story arc sets the stage for what should be an exciting, ahem, run (I’m sorry about that. I really am). After battling Rogues and gorillas (that latter conflict was the one that bored me off this book), we see Barry Allen tackling a good old fashioned murder mystery. It’s kind of refreshing to see him working with his brain, only using his super powers to aid his investigation when necessary. Even though we as the reader know more about this case than Barry does (not much more, but some), it’s still fun to watch him try to piece this puzzle together. After finally figuring out how to watch the footage from a weird, soccer ball-looking camera thingy, Barry learns a supposed accident was really a murder. With two dead bodies on his hands and another almost-victim on the run, it will be interesting to see what happens when Kid Flash is thrown into the mix next month. That’s right, Kid Flash! That’ll totally crash the mode (this reference brought to you by someone who is sad Young Justice got canceled).

Another reason I’m glad to be reading this book again is Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato’s artwork. This book is SO freaking pretty to look at. The title page alone is worthy of all the awards. Manapul’s pencils matched with Buccellato’s coloring give The Flash one of the most unique looks in all of comics. It’s definitely one of, if not THE, best looking DC book out there. And now it finally has an interesting story to match. Oh happy day!

-JR

GREEN LANTERN #20

This week marks the end of one of the most incredible runs in modern comics as Geoff Johns wraps up his 9 year tenure on Green Lantern. It’s strange to think that there was once a time when Hal Jordan wasn’t a major player in the DC Universe considering how far the character has come since Johns took over. He’s returned from the dead, defeated the Anti-Monitor, Superboy Prime, and the rest of the Sinestro Corps, saved the universe from Nekron’s army of Black Lanterns…and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Under Johns’ direction we’ve met Lanterns of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Red, blue, yellow, orange (LARFLEEZE!)…the expanded Lantern mythology that Geoff Johns has created here is truly remarkable. It’s weird that someone else will be writing this book starting next month.

So how was the big finish? It’s pretty great. Wherever you jumped on board the GL train, whether it was day 1 or New 52 or somewhere in between, this is a very satisfying finale to what’s been an amazing journey. The First Lantern, Volthoom, isn’t necessarily the greatest or best-defined villain Hal and the rest of the gang have faced, but he provides sufficient menace to keep things interesting. There are no loose plot threads left dangling, everybody’s fate is revealed from The Guardians to Sinestro to G’Nort. The last scene (for now) between Sinestro and Hal is especially poignant. Their relationship has always been one of the main focuses of this book, particularly since the New 52 started, and the way they part ways hits all the right notes.

The art is mostly great as Doug Mahnke provides his usual spectacular work. Being a finale, however, there are several guest artists on board. Nothing is particularly bad, but the lack of a consistent look throughout the entire book makes it feel a little disjointed. But this IS a finale book, after all. It’s not like we didn’t know that was going to happen. And again, all the guest artists do a fine job. It’s just that Mahnke’s work, as usual, is the best of the bunch.

Overall, Geoff Johns ends his run on Green Lantern in terrific fashion. Everyone gets a proper ending, and he even plants a seed for future events in Justice League. Sneaky guy, that Johns. Collecting trades of first the Sinestro Corps War and then Blackest Night was part of what got me back into regularly collecting comics, so this finale is a little bittersweet for me. But it’s a hell of a way to wrap up this 9 year adventure. Thanks for a great time, Geoff Johns.

-JR

JUSTICE LEAGUE #20

The entire run of this title has been hit or miss for me from issue #1, sometimes good, sometimes not so much, but it’s never really blown me over. But this one, at least for me, marked a change for me and I really enjoyed it. It could just be because it has one of my favorite DC characters, Firestorm in it, transmuting air into Titanium doors, it could be because I got to see another one of my favorite DC characters, Martian Manhunter, perform some telepathic lobotomies, or it could be the fact that they’re incorporating the story that Batman knows all of the Justice Leaguers weaknesses… all except one. But who is it? You’ll have to read it to find out. This is a good jumping on point for the series and I would actually recommend picking this one up.

-MK

AVENGERS #12

Hickman is definitely writing towards the long game with this particular title, with the last few issues dragging a bit as he builds to the Infinity event later this year, but this issue was a lot of fun. Where most of the other issues have been a bit heavy, this was a more lighthearted issue that saw some of the Avengers teaching some newly evolved children in a “garden” site the ins and outs of being human. There were some really fun moments that allowed us to see these individual heroes’ teaching styles which, coincidentally, showed us what they value as well. Not sure I’d say to rush out and buy this one, but with what Hickman is doing, I’m not so sure you can afford to miss anything.

-MK

DAREDEVIL #26

Guys, I don’t know how to tell you this, but Daredevil #26 is perfect. Absolutely perfect. THIS is what comic books are all about: great storytelling combined with amazing artwork. Daredevil has been one of the best books out there under Mark Waid’s direction, and issue #26 is his masterpiece. At least until he puts out another one. Seriously, this book is THAT good.

Everything Waid has been building to since the first issue is revealed here, and it absolutely hits. The pace is frantic, matching Matt Murdock’s state of mind following his vicious beating at the hands of Ikari. Still reeling from the assassin’s attack, Murdock finds himself overwhelmed with paranoia, seeing enemies everywhere. And that’s where the brilliance in this issue lies: he’s right to be scared. The seemingly innocent lawyer on a job interview DOES carry a sinister message from Daredevil’s would-be killer. The nurse preparing to give Foggy an injection IS trying to kill Matt’s best friend. There isn’t a single moment in this issue where Matt isn’t in very real danger, even at the end when it seems he’s gotten the upper hand. Even as he finally confronts the big bad who’s been manipulating things from the get-go, Ikari is still just a step behind him and poised to attack. This book is as good as comics get.

Of course, any great comic book story is nothing without accompanying artwork. Chris Samnee and Javier Rodriguez absolutely deliver in that regard. Samnee’s retro-style pencils have been the perfect compliment to Waid’s work since he first came on board, and now he just kills it in this issue. There’s a great sight gag with an elevator door that adds that little something extra to help make this issue a true work of art. It’s just…it’s just so freaking good.

Then there’s the back-up, featuring Foggy Nelson’s visit to a group of kids in the cancer ward. I don’t have much to say about this beyond the fact that if you can read this and not be moved, you’re probably a robot. I was going to give this book a perfect score anyway, this was just the icing on the cake. It’s really a truly touching little story from Waid and company, especially if you’ve ever had to deal with this stupid disease.

So as I said in this week’s preview, you need to be reading Daredevil. If you aren’t, you’re missing one of the most remarkable runs anyone’s had on any book ever. It succeeds on every level, and I cannot wait to see where the story goes from here.

-JR

FANTASTIC FOUR #8

This was a great stand-alone issue with a lot of great moments, both in terms of action but also in terms of emotion. We get to see Ben Grimm revert to his human form, which he gets to do for one day, once a year, and then visit the Yancy Street of yesteryear. Anything involving The Thing reverting to his human form is already packed with emotion, but knowing he only has a day and seeing what he chooses to do with it gives this story so much more pathos. He doesn’t try to score with some hot chick or do anything like that, he goes back in time and defends a Jewish shopkeeper from the Yancy street gang, yelling lines like, “Yancy Street don’t bend!” Honestly, you just cheer for Ben Grimm throughout this entire issue. Not necessary for the over all story Fraction is weaving, but if you’re a fan of good stories, pick this book up.

-MK

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #10

This book just keeps getting better for me with every issue. When I first heard that they were killing off Peter Parker and putting Otto Octavius in his brain, I was disappointed and wrote it off as a hackneyed premise I would have no interest in. But damn if Dan Slott ain’t proved me wrong. This issue takes place after Otto has completely purged the ghost of Parker out of his brain completely and allows us to see Otto, plain and simple, dealing with the responsibilities of being Spider-Man all on his own. It also brings in the Green Goblin! If you haven’t been reading this title, jump on here. I’d highly recommend it; it’s a fun ride.

-MK

UNCANNY AVENGERS #8AU

All of the “AU” tie-in’s that the titles have been doing have not really impressed me. Though they are usually fun reads, they are typically standalone issues that don’t really contribute a whole lot to the main story that Bendis has constructed. That being said, this issue actually ties in very nicely to that story while also continuing with the time-traveling Kang and Apocalypse Twins main story that Remender has been writing here all along. There were two things that really stood out to me about this issue. Firstly, I loved seeing some character development for the main villains in the Ragnarok Now story arc that Remender is creating. And, second, since this is presumably taking place in an alternate time line that will be eventually be overwritten, Remender had some liberty to play a “what if” game and really take it to a couple characters. This issue doesn’t seem crucial to the over all story that’s being told in either Age of Ultron or in Uncanny Avengers, but if you’ve been keeping up, it’s a good ride with lots of action.

-MK

UNCANNY X-MEN #6

This, honestly, is my favorite of the week, at least with the Marvel releases. I honestly can’t figure out what I like more, Bendis’ writing or Irving’s art. In this issue, the Broken X-men team and their young, super novice, didn’t know I was a mutant until yesterday team mates end up fighting Dormammu in Limbo. That’s already an epic set up, but Bendis’ story takes you on some great twists and Irving’s artwork and framing are breathtaking. In one part, when the Cuckoos have telepathically turned all of the new mutants into barbarian badasses, Irving does a two page spread with two frames, from two different angles, but the effect is like watching that awesome scene in Whedon’s “The Avengers” where the camera sweeps around the team after the Hulk’s taken down one of those giant monster things. About the only thing in this issue that I had a hard time with is the opening scene that shows a new mutant discovering their powers. While it’s a great and humorous scene, it didn’t really contribute anything to the over all story and felt a little out of place or tacked on. But still, that’s just nitpicking on my part. I’d definitely pick up #5 just so you can pick up this issue too. Highly recommend this issue.

Hello Schmoeville!

February 10, 2006 was a dark day in American history. That was the night Arrested Development aired it’s final episode and took the beloved Bluth’s off our television screens. Sadness befell a nation.

Sad George-Michael is sad.

The critically acclaimed cult favorite was gone after just 3 seasons, and it seemed we were left with nothing more than our DVD’s and our memories. Oh sure, we’d get teased by rumors of a movie every now and then, but that was just a pipe dream. We’d never get any more Arrested Development. Ever. It seemed that, in giving our hearts to this brilliant-yet-short-lived series, we’d made a huge mistake.

Pretend this is a picture of the FOX executive who killed this show

But then…rumors of a 4th season on Netflix began to swirl. And we started to get our hopes up yet again. And then the official announcement happened! And they started filming it! And they finished filming it! And tomorrow, after more than 7 years off the air, we’re going to get brand new episodes of Arrested Development!

Yes, the entire season 4 will debut all at once on Netflix starting tomorrow. Time to get happy, people!

They’re baaaaack

Trying to compress everything that made the first three seasons of this show great into one article is an incredibly daunting task. It’s one of the few sitcoms in history where EVERYTHING worked all the time. Like this:

It was the perfect blend of recurring gags, insane characters, and subtle humor. Even now, a binge-viewing of the first three seasons can reveal brilliant jokes you may have missed the first few times around. Take this awesome sight gag, for example:

I love that one.

I could sit here all day posting videos of amazing Arrested Development moments…

But I think you get the idea. And what we really want to see is NEW Arrested Development, right? Well guess what? We’ve got 4 quick clips from tomorrow’s premiere!

Hello Schmoeville!

Well we knew after that bomb that Bryan Singer dropped on Thursday, that this wouldn’t be the last we heard of Quicksilver. And although there wasn’t much talked about, Joss Whedon did stop by the Jimmy Fallon show last night and discussed “tidbits” of information.

Whedon says that no one has been cast as Quicksilver yet so he pretty much confirmed what we already knew, no crossover with X-Men.

Check out the video here, curtesy of Variety:

What say you Schmoeville? Do you think Whedon will utilize Quicksilver better than Singer? Do you care that we may have two different versions of the character or is he just a filler character anyway?

Hello Schmoeville!

Captain Dan here!

A guilty pleasure is easily defined as something we feel guilty about deriving pleasure from. Or, if you need a slightly dumbed down version of that, things we like that we shouldn’t. I have many of these, or perhaps I should say people say I have many of these: GLEE, The TWILIGHT Movies, Pop music. But there is one, one above all, one series of films that I hated the first one yet still keep paying 12 dollars to see in the movie theater. That series is THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS.

Flashback to 2001 and trailers for a movie about street racing at the height of it’s popularity. Fast Cars, loose looking women, a hot soundtrack and 4 of the best looking people you will ever see (Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, and that bald buff guy with the super deep voice). I was so excited. SO EXCITED!!! I am in no way a grease monkey, however I do love cars. I love looking at them, driving them and hearing them. I couldn’t wait.

ARRRRGGGHHH! THAT MOVIE SUCKED!!!!! Terrible dialogue, terrible acting, what the hell was the plot again?!?! Well at least the cars and the chicks were hot.

Then we had 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS in 2003. So many people were excited because for some inexplicable reason, people loved that first pile of dog crap. My dad was in town visiting me and since he and I see pretty much every movie, there was only one neither of us had see. 2 FAST was a slight, very slight, improvement on the first. So I didn’t even bother with 3. Figured they just brought in a whole new cast, this series is done. FAST AND THE FURIOUS 4 would be straight to video and Star Joey Lawerence and DMX. Oh WOW was I wrong.

Now it’s 2013 and FAST & FURIOUS 6 is up there with my most anticipated summer releases.

“What happened, Cap, in the last 12 years that made you change your tune?” My answer: I haven’t the foggiest.

But I love this series. I still feel the same way about the acting, story, and dialogue. The difference is that now I embrace it. Going back and watching all five before 6 comes out has reminded me why myself and many others love these movies. FUN FUN FUN!!!!

“So which is your fave Cap?” Well I’ll tell you.

The list goes something like this

5. THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS

Some may be a little surprised at my least favorite of the bunch, since it is the first one. But I can’t get over a street racing movie that has like 2 races. The whole plot of the undercover cop infiltrating a street racing gang wis booooorriiiinng. Does Vin Diesel really talk like that? Does anyone think Paul Walker can really act? Well at least Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez are hot….That’s what I initially thought. Now 12 years later…I still kind of think the same thing, But I love this series and have grown to Love/Hate the first one. If only for the reason that it is the one that started it all. Oh and Paul Walker and Vin Diesel rule.

THE OG CREW

4. THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS TOKYO DRIFT

Whole new crew, whole new attitude. Lucas Black and Lil Bow Wow (Don’t care what he says, he is definitely still Lil) take the reigns from Paul and Vin and they are joined by new buddy Han (Fast and Furious series’ Yoda). Director Justin Lin took over the franchise here and this is his introduction – an exciting STREET RACING MOVIE!!! Finally got the one I thought we were getting in the first one and now it’s exotic Tokyo Japan. Lin also capitalized on a popular trend at the time, drifting, which is one of the coolest looking racing moves ever. This is probably everyone else’s least favorite of the bunch, but it’s my 4th fave so far. I like Lucas Black as an actor and have no doubt he would work more if he could ditch that Texas drawl. Nothing wrong with sounding Super Texan but unfortunately it’s going to limit the parts you will be offered. I wish they could get Lucas Black into the 7th movie, but alas, this may have been the 3rd released but it is the last chronologically. Those who have seen them will know what I am talking about. Those who haven’t, well you’ll just have to watch them now won’t you? I’m not going to tell you!

BOW!! LIL!! FIRST ONE TO BE ACTUALLY ABOUT STREET RACING.

3. FAST AND FURIOUS

NEW MODEL…ORGINAL PARTS. That was the tagline for the 4th in the magnificent series and my 3rd fave. The tagline refers to the fact that all 4 original actors (Walker, Diesel, Rodriguez, Brewster) are back. Han from TOKYO DRIFT is also back, a welcome return because he kind of rules. The opening scene to this movie is probably the greatest, or at least one of the greatest Stunt Driving scenes ever put on film. This is the movie Justin Lin really put his mark on. The first 3 were much smaller stories in comparison to what followed with the 4th and 5th in the series. You can almost say that these are two separate Trilogies. This was the flick that made me go back and watch the original three to find out why I disliked them so much. Come to find out I was very much an in the closest FAST FURIOUS fan. Now I embrace them with nothing but love.

NEW MODEL. ORIGINAL PARTS. I CAN’T SAY ANYTHING COOLER THAN THAT.

2. 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS

TYRESE!!!! Vin Diesel decided to move on, before of course he moved back in, but to keep his seat warm Producers brought in Tyrese Gibson. And what a breath of fresh air. I remember watching this one and thinking how much it still stinks. Dialogue GOT WORSE!!! Did Paul Walker seriously just say that?!?! You know you are a skater from the valley and not a thug from the hood right? Anyhoo, my boy Tyrese came in here and made it a bit more respectable. When I went back and watched the original trilogy I discovered that this was by far the best in the bunch. It’s got the hottest soundtrack of the five and oh did I mention, they replaced Ja Rule (gross) with Ludacris (HELL YEAH!) as the token rapper? I’m still disappointed that they didn’t call FF TOKYO DRIFT, 3 FAST 3 FURIOUS or the next one 4 FAST 4 FURIOUS!!! But I like FAST FIVE, leave that one alone.

JA RULE SUCKS. LUDA!!!

1. FAST FIVE

YES YES YES!!!!!!! THE ROCK!!! 1st off, Dwayne Johnson is like bacon or ranch dressing: he makes everything better. Not saying every movie he is in is a masterpiece, but he is the masterpiece of every movie he is a part of. The 4th movie was where Justin Lin took the series from being a street racing thing to a heist thing. This movie’s action is so ridiculous in borders on complete insanity. Anyone who can’t suspend disbelief stay the hell away! Everyone else, strap yourself in for one rollicking good time. The entire team, minus most of the Tokyo drift team, is present. Dom, Brian, Letty, Mia, Tej, and of course my the boys HAN AND ROMAN! This movie kicks so much ass, I don’t even know where to start. So I won’t. P.S. Make sure you watch the post-credits scene for a big reveal as well as a cameo from one of the 2 FAST crew.

THOSE ARE SOME SEXY BEASTS. ESPECIALLY THE ONE IN THE CUTOFFS AND BOOTS. YOWZA!

Watch the damn thing, hell watch all of them. If you have Blu Ray, I suggest turning that shit up to 11 and let it blow you out the back of the theater. The theater that is in your house of course. Yes I know that is the DIE HARD tagline, but it applies here.

In conclusion(Is there any worse way to end an essay?), FAST & FURIOUS 6 is my most anticipated Summer movie, behind IRON MAN 3, STAR TREK 13, MAN OF STEEL and WOLVERINE 2. Here is why:

Hello Schmoeville!

Dreamworks has unleashed a featurette for their upcoming animated feature TURBO. The movie stars the voices from Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Snoop Dogg, a.k.a.
From the makers of Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda, TURBO is a high-velocity 3D comedy about an underdog snail whose dreams kick into overdrive when he miraculously attains the power of super-speed. But after making fast friends with a crew of streetwise, tricked-out es-car-goes, Turbo learns that no one succeeds on their own. So he puts his heart and shell on the line to help his pals achieve their dreams, before Turbo-charging his own impossible dream: winning the Indy 500.

Hello Schmoeville!

The one and only supreme ruler of Earth, Tom Cruise, has just left the Warner Bros project MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E, according to DEADLINE. The movie was going to be a reboot of the famous television series, directed by Guy Ritchie. Warner Bros. was hoping to create another franchise with Supreme Ruler Cruise as the lead. Armie Hammer was already cast as his side-kick and it looks like he’s still on board.

This is another setback for the potential franchise. WB was going to back the pic and had Steven Soderbergh ready to direct with George Clooney in the lead. The actor though had to drop out because he needed surgery on his neck and back, and he wasn’t up for the physical role. After Soderbergh departed, they hired Ritchie and Cruise.

Cruise is said to have dropped out to give more time to MISSION IMPOSSIBLE V, currently in development. No word yet on the status of that project (director) but this just shows us how important the Mission franchise is to Supreme Ruler Cruise.

For those unfamiliar with the show, here’s a trailer:

So what do you think Schmoeville? Who do you want to see take over as the lead opposite The Hammer (Armie’s true name) and Guy Ritchie in the director’s chair? Sound off below!

Hello Schmoeville!

The fine folks over at IGN spoke with Joss Whedon about his newly ordered Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D television series. Seriously, aside from all that Fox vs Marvel horse-sh*t going on, it really is such a great time for geeks. More Marvel movies on the way for the big screen, more Marvel content on the small screen with S.H.I.E.L.D.

Here’s a bit from the interview which sheds some light on the whole premise and how it ties to Avengers:

“IGN: Fans can’t resist asking, “What superheroes will show up from the comics?” I’ve seen you say you want to be careful though, to somewhat divvy that out and not load up the show with that sort of thing, right?

Whedon: It’s not what the show is about. The show is about the six people who are in the show. And very week we’ll meet somebody that they have to deal with. Some of those people will be very sympathetic, some of them will be evil, some will be from the Marvel canon, some will reference it — but it’s not an Easter egg hunt. It really is just about the lives of these people as they’re dealing with this super-world.

Hello Schmoeville!

Comic Book Movie is reporting from their sources that scenes are being filmed at a cemetery location in Cleveland.

“The location was said to be for filming at the Lakeview Cemetery on Cleveland’s east side, which was previously unknown to anyone outside of the production. So while taking a break from today’s main car chase location in Downtown Cleveland and checking out this cemetery scoop, the 10-minute drive to the cemetery gave visual confirmation of this location (by this writer’s own eyeballs). Marvel Studios is indeed setting up shop at the cemetery. So what does this mean?”

They go on to give their two cents on what it could mean. Anything from Cap visiting Peggy Carter’s grave to even Nick Fury dying because he’s being “hunted down by Washington D.C. authorities”. Which is news to me. Haven’t heard that rumor before.

But the use of a cemetery in Cap’s sequel could be, really, anything; so take this news with a grain of salt. Just because there’s a cemetery in the script does not mean a major character bites it. All depends on story. For all we know, Cap is paying his respect to a fallen war veteran, which is total conjecture on my part.

And here’s some more….

What if it’s Cap’s own funeral???

Okay, I just totally started sh*t. Now don’t go quoting this as news, Schmoeville. This is just a flying leap of a stab in the dark. Based in part on the celebrated line of comics which saw the death of Captain America – only to be revived, obviously, a short time later; what if Marvel was setting up WINTER SOLDIER to be a sort of EMPIRE STRIKES BACK of the Captain America Universe and we are left with a cliff hanger that is ultimately resolved, and Cap is resurrected (again) in Avengers 2? You know, strike that, that would just be stupid.

Or would it….?

Sound off Schmoeville! Is this news reason for concern?

Hello Schmoeville!

This was bound to happen so I’m glad it only took ten or so hours for there to be 1) An announcement by Bryan Singer using Quicksilver in the new X-Men. 2) The internet to freak balls. 3) For the announcement to set off a war between two rival studios over a kid that can run, real real fast.

That’s what the guys over at HITFIX are saying about Bryan’s polarizing, now deleted tweet.

“This is not a situation where the two different companies are working together to try and create a sense of a larger shared world. In fact, if either of them could get the other to back off, they would. The thing is, Bryan Singer has designed a sequence that he feels only works with Quicksilver, and Joss Whedon feels that there is a pressing reason for Quicksilver to show up in “The Avengers 2,” and so what we’re going to see is a legally-negotiated stand-off in which we’ll get two totally different versions of one character. While they may act like things are amicable in public, HitFix sources say otherwise.”

Okay, Schmoeville, let me sum it up. Bryan Singer has a sequence in his movie that he feels is totally right for Quicksilver so he’s going to use, the mutant Quicksilver in what sounds like a small, ultimately unimportant role that doesn’t pull or have any weight on the main action for X-Men. Whereas Joss Whedon has gone on record saying his Quicksilver will be a BIG PART of the Avengers. Hitfix further hypothesizes that:

“This is the first time this has happened, and there is still time for Fox to blink. If they push forward and allow Singer to include the character, there’s a chance they’re burning down any future cooperation with Marvel, who have proven themselves to be hard negotiators who aren’t afraid to flex whatever muscle they have.

So, yes Schmoeville – like many of you supposed, this is TWO SEPARATE Quicksilver’s and Fox is just basically starting a fight. Like when your little brother gives you a wet willy and runs away happily screaming, “I got you.” It’s more annoying than it is painful. Any big brothers out there know what you did to retaliate? That’s right, you locked your lil’ bro in the basement never to be found again. Anywho…

I figured there would be no synching of franchises, no playing nice – no crossover and no hope, for now, that any of the X-Men will meet any of the Avengers in future movies. Fox and Marvel have their toys in separate sand-boxes and don’t want to share. So I guess they both win…

And the fans lose.

What do you think Schmoeville? Are you convinced this is a pissing match between two major conglomerates? Or is there something more in the works here? Personally, I think it’s the former.

Nice move pissing off Marvel AND the internet, Singer. Good thing you deleted that former tweet. Oh look, I took a screen shot for everyone to witness. Such tomfoolery does not go unnoticed, my friend.

Man, for a network show Hannibal really has a lot of f***ed up imagery. People carved into angels. Turned into cellos. And now this week we have a ridiculous monument to brutality. Pieces of dead bodies in various stages of decay tied together in a totem pole. “This is a celebration. He’s marking his achievements”, says Will Graham. Seriously. Damn.

Oh, so that’s what nightmares look like

While Will Graham deals with this insane amount of awful, we catch up with Abigail Hobbs. The daughter of the Minnesota Shrike is in a psychiatric hospital in Baltimore and, as she learns from Freddie Lounds, broke. AND having dreams about dead people like Nicholas Boyle, the guy she inadvertently killed. Lounds convinces Abigail to let her write a book about everything that’s happened, which does not sit well with Will and Hannibal. Things get even messier (figuratively speaking… for now) when Boyle’s body is found frozen in the woods. Though Abigail feels an odd sense of relief at this development (turns out she dug him up herself), Hannibal naturally does not. “You jeopardized my life as well as your own. I deserve more than that. I need to trust you, Abigail. What if I can’t?”. Note to Abigail: You REALLY don’t want to get on Dr. Lecter’s bad side.

Jack Crawford is the king of multitasking. If he isn’t pressing Abigail for information about Nicholas Boyle, he’s also got a horrific murder investigation to run. The team starts putting the pieces together (sorry, unavoidable pun) which leads them to the home of Lawrence Wells (Lance Henriksen!). Wells, strangely enough, confesses immediately; he’s proud of his work. His “legacy”. Only there’s one problem. His doesn’t realize his last victim was his own son. Whoops. Those crimes of passion never end well for anyone, do they?

Worst. Kids In The Hall sketch.

Back in the land of Abigail, Will figures out she killed Nicholas Boyle and confronts Hannibal about it. Hannibal confesses that he knew the truth and even helped Miss Hobbs cover it up in order to protect her from the wrath of Jack Crawford and the world at large. In yet another stellar Hannibal-manipulates-Will scene, the good doctor convinces his new BFF to remain silent about the truth. “We are her fathers now,” he says. Heck of a family unit they’ve got there, eh? In the end, the bond between Hannibal and Abigail strengthens when she confesses that she actually helped her father with his murders by vetting potential victims for him. What a kind, loving daughter. Now she has Hannibal and Will looking out for her. Protecting her from Jack Crawford, Freddie Lounds, and anyone else who would do her harm. It’s like My Two Dads only, you know, with way more blood.

“Stabbing is, like, totes amazeballs!”

If I have one complaint about this episode, it’s that the totem pole storyline was wrapped up a bit too easily. Jack Crawford and Will Graham walk into the guy’s house, he confesses, they tell him he killed his son, and scene. Certainly it was all done well, but if you’re going to have Lance Henriksen on the show as a serial killer, shouldn’t he do more? He didn’t necessarily have to do as much as Eddie Izzard did a few weeks ago (how great was that, by the way?), but at least have him, I don’t know, stand up. All he really did was sit in a chair for a couple minutes. Perhaps I’m just being greedy.

That aside, this was another solid episode. This show has yet to deliver a dud and I can’t imagine that happening anytime soon. Will Graham continues to fall apart piece by piece. Jack Crawford’s ready to pounce the second Abigail Hobbs slips up. And Hannibal…well Hannibal’s just being himself. Which is bad news for everyone around him. Things are ramping up as we head towards the end of the season, and I have a feeling some very unpleasant events lie ahead of our buddy Will. I repeat my plea to anyone who isn’t already watching this amazing show to START WATCHING THIS AMAZING SHOW!!! It’s future beyond this season is still up in the air, and I for one would hate to see such quality television disappear before it’s given a chance to tell it’s whole story.

Hello Schmoeville!

As a loyal follower of Bryan Singer, both on Twitter and when he’s walking his dog (don’t tell anyone), I couldn’t help but notice this HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!!!

Okay, Quicksilver is in X-MEN??? What does this mean for AVENGERS 2 and what Joss Whedon said about the character? And does this mean that Fox and Marvel are playing nice, sharing their characters and sharing box office grosses? If we’re getting mutants in the Marvel universe, does that mean that sooner or later Spider-Man will pop in there? WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN!!!!???

Sorry, needed a breath there.

For those of you unfamiliar with Evan Peters, check out his IMDB page here and also, here’s a pic!

I love what Bryan Singer is doing with his Twitter feed and with his fans. He is really building excitement by letting them peek behind the curtain. Never is he ‘SPOILING’ his story rather, he is layering in a fever pitch of excitement making his fans feel like they are a part of the process.

What do you think, Schmoeville? Excited about the announcement? More important, sound off below on the what the hell we can expect from X-MEN and waht does it mean for The Avengers?!

Hello Schmoeville!

Okay, so, um, TIMECOP… awesome movie, yo. Awesome…. movie– do we call it a movie, still? I call it a Van Damme movie which is a little different, technically.

Sigh, anywho The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the next reboot/remake/retread will be TIMECOP, the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme time travel action movie. The project is at Universal. So says THR:

“Timecop, a Universal library title, was set in the near future where time travel is regulated by a police force. One officer (Van Damme) runs afoul a crooked politician (played by Ron Silver) using time travel to further his political career.

The original was based on a story published in Dark Horse Comics and the movie itself was one of Van Damme’s most successful films, both financially and critically – (can you believe that???)

Timecop also became a mini-franchise of sorts, with a short-lived 1997 TV series on ABC and then a direct-to-DVD sequel with a new cast. Universal is said to be re-imagining the concept and is out to writers. Van Damme is not involved. Poor guy. Although I’m sure when they begin filming there will be some lame cameo he makes. Like maybe he’s be a fugitive on the run – in time – and he like, spin kicks a Time Cop in the face while hiding in prehistoric times and then, like, the Time Cop shoots him in the face. End cameo.

Okay, jokes aside, I think the concept is a good one (that was far ahead of the technology available to truly sell a time traveling, epic story) so depending on the writers and cast they get involved, this could be a good thing. I don’t usually like reboots but I have no loyalty to any Jean Claude Van Damme movies so feel free to reboot all of them.

What do you think, Schmoeville? Is this a good or bad remake and will you go see it in the theatres? Comment below and let us know!
