Oh how I dreaded our assessments. Our little dude is a 28-weeker, and every 6 months we went down to the Child Development and Special Care Clinic at the hospital and withstood the torture - 6 specialists in 3 hours expecting him to perform. By the time it was all over, we had a super cranky kid.

Sounds like we were luckier than you - at our assessments, I was allowed to be an active participant. So if I knew he wasn't understanding what he should do, or knew how to get him to do something, I was allowed to chime in. They also 'interviewed' my husband and I on what he could and couldn't do, so if he was adamant about NOT doing something, they took our word for it.

About a month after each visit, we received an evaluation report that we discussed with our pediatrician. We were provided recommendations to help with any skills he needed improving on, as well as some free toys that they found helpful.

Funny story - at our last assessment, he was asked "Can you kick the ball?".
His response was "Yes, but in a minute. I'm tired."

Check with your local shelter or aspca to see if you can be a foster parent - then the vet bills will be paid for (at least that's how it works here). In any case, good luck - she's a cutie!

I watched an episode of this against my will. While I wanted to look away I was flabbergasted by some of the things that came out of the girls mouth (the Farrah episode). There is nothing refreshing about this show and the first few episodes of the old show Reba handled the issue better. However, the part that amazed me was the stupidity of those involved and in this episodes case...the mother as well. Firstly, why would you want this to be aired on tv? Secondly, if you are going to wave your dirty laundry in front of the whole nation wouldn't you perhaps (and I am on about the mother here) try to act like a decent human being? While the pregnant teen is classically immature in some respects, I ended up amazed she seemed to be as "together" as she was dealing with a mother like that. This show hurt my brain and I stayed up for hours afterwards with three small words rolling in my head "wtf". The only entertainment value is to be able to watch someone making worse choices than you have (presumably). Or to shake your head in dismay and wonder at what point they thought any of this was a good idea.

I think "norm" is synonymous with "the majority" whereas "normal" would mean "the way it should be". Either way, I think it's clear you weren't saying all men are like that.

Hey Cassie. Disclaimer was always there. I think there was an objection to my use of the word "norm", but I don't beieve "norm" and "normal" are synonymous. :-(

I don't know if the disclaimer was added after some feathers were ruffled or not, but there WAS a disclaimer. I know maybe 2 guys that are NOT like what Alice described. I think it's a pretty fair stereotype in my experience.

Also, my car insurance is as low as it can possibly be :)
