Overview

The Graduate Studies in International Affairs program offers up to four Hedley Bull Scholarships each year for full-time study in the Master of Arts (International Relations) commencing in semester one. Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Master of Arts (International Relations).

When applying for the MA (International Relations), eligible applicants for the Hedley Bull Scholarship should include a covering letter indicating their interest in being considered for the scholarship and making the case for being granted one. The covering letter together with the application for the MA (International Relations) (including transcripts and three academic references) will be considered as the full application for the scholarship. There is no need to provide a separate application. The scholarship provides a full-fee waiver for three full-time sessions (semesters). This amounts to 48 units of graduate coursework and a 24-unit thesis session.

MA (International Relations) (MAIR) and Master of International Affairs (MIA)

Applicants for the MAIR and MIA should normally have obtained at least a Distinction average in their bachelor degree, or the equivalent. The degree should be in any discipline of the social sciences or the humanities. Those with a bachelor degree with Distinction average in a non-cognate discipline will be admitted to the Master's Foundation program for a semester. As a guide, Distinction refers to an A/B+ average, 2(1) Honours in the British system, and 14/20 in the French system.

Graduate Diploma in International Affairs (GDIA) and Graduate Certificate in International Relations (GCIR)

Applicants for the GDIA and the GCIR should normally have obtained a Bachelor degree with a Credit average. Although a degree in the social sciences would be an advantage, degrees in other areas will be considered.

Overview

The Kingsbury Scholarship is a highly prestigious engineering scholarship for undergraduates who have chosen Imperial as their firm choice and have received a conditional offer for a course within the Faculty of Engineering.

Students will receive a full scholarship of £19,000 a year for the duration of their 4-year course. This includes a tuition fee waiver of £9,000 per annum, plus a £10,000 a year maintenance grant.

Eligibility

To be eligible candidates must be Home/UK students who qualify for financial support from Student Finance England, with a household income of less than £60,000.

This scholarship is aimed at bright and dynamic students who intend to ultimately seek employment as a graduate in UK industry. As such, the applicants must agree to defer their course for a year to work in industry first.

Applicants must:

Be a Home/UK student who qualifies for financial support through Student Finance England, with a household income of less than £60,000 per annum

Have a confirmed place at Imperial for an undergraduate course within the Faculty of Engineering for 2012
Agree to defer their course for a year to work for at least 9 months in industry. We would suggest using the Engineering Development Trust’s scheme Year In Industry. Your course at Imperial would therefore start in 2013.

About Year In Industry

Year In Industry is an initiative of the Engineering Development Trust (EDT), a registered education charity that helps talented young people achieve their full potential through careers in engineering, science and technology.

YINI provide high-quality, paid placements for students interested in all areas of engineering and science, and have placed students with 300 top UK companies including Shell, Rolls Royce, British Energy, Network Rail and AstraZeneca. These placements provide the skills and knowledge employers are looking for, and the experience that will help the students make the most of university. Placements are situated all around the country and a regional YINI manager will provide mentorship and support whenever necessary. The students typically earn between £9,000 to £14,000 from August / September to June / July.

YINI recently celebrated its 25^th anniversary. As part of their celebration they identified a ‘bright spark and shining example’ from each of their years in operation. Katie Pavey was the student they profiled from 2007, who is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at Imperial. Katie says of the scheme:

Working in Industry as part of a project team also gave me the skills and confidence to give the technical presentations and reports for my university coursework. To apply for the Kingsbury Scholarship please email scholarships@imperial.ac.uk by 10 June 2012 with a written statement in no more than 250 words that describes how you intend to seek employment in UK engineering industry after you graduate

Selection Process

The Department that you have applied to will assess your academic merit from your UCAS form and from your 250 word statement. Applicants will be ranked by Departments and the final selection will be made by the Principal of the Faculty of Engineering.

Outcome of Awards

The successful applicant will be notified by email no later than 31 August 2012. The award will not be allocated until we have confirmed you are from a household with a residual income of less than £60,000. The award is for applications for the academic year 2012-13. If your application is successful you will then have to defer your course until 2013-14 and take a year in industry first. However, if you have already completed a year in industry you will not be expected to defer for another year and can apply to start your course in 2012-13.

If you have not heard from us by 31 August 2012, please assume you have been unsuccessful in your application.

The Emerging Markets Development Advisers Program (EMDAP) is a cooperative activity between the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Institute of International Education (IIE). Through EMDAP, U.S. graduate students and recent graduates with non-profit, business, private sector, public policy, and international relations related backgrounds provide technical assistance and support to local organizations in USAID-assisted countries. EMDAP targeted assistance supports USAID's strategy of building local capacity through innovative and sustainable assistance by transferring knowledge to local organizations and individuals.

The Program

The Emerging Markets Development Advisers Program is a fellowship sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). EMDAP is managed by the Institute of International Education (IIE), the largest private, nonprofit educational and cultural exchange agency in the United States.

EMDAP is an opportunity for current students and recent graduates of U.S. MBA and MA programs in international management/ finance/development or international affairs/studies to provide management assistance to variou USAID-assisted entities in emerging markets.

EMDAP Advisers contribute to development in emerging market countries by using their knowledge of management practices to identify solutions in diverse situations. This contributes to achieving USAID’s objectives abroad – specifically, broad-based economic development.

EMDAP Features

Overview

Applications are being accepted for the OWSD Postgraduate Training Fellowships for Women Scientists from Sub-Saharan Africa and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) at Centres of Excellence in the South.

The OWSD fellowship is awarded to women scientists from Sub-Saharan Africa and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to pursue a PhD at a centre of excellence in the South in a field of the natural sciences.

Applications are accepted from female scientists in all branches of the natural sciences.

Purpose

With funds generously provided by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), OWSD has instituted a fellowship programme for female students from Sub-Saharan Africa and Least Developed Countries (LDCs), who wish to pursue postgraduate training leading to a Ph.D., at centres of excellence in the South (developing countries), outside their own country.

The general purpose of the scheme is to contribute to the emergence of a new generation of women leaders in science and technology, and to promote their effective participation in the scientific and technological development of their countries.

The specific aims of the scheme are:

To improve access to educational and training opportunities in science and technology for young and talented women graduates from Sub-Saharan Africa and LDCs.
To increase the scientific productivity and creativity of women scientists in Sub-Saharan Africa and LDCs.
To empower a new generation of talented women to assume a leadership role in science and technology and their application to sustainable development.

Conditions

The scheme provides fellowships to young female students from Sub-Saharan African countries and/or LDCs, to enable them to pursue postgraduate studies leading to Ph.D., degrees, at centres of excellence (renowned research institutions/universities). The institute must be in a developing country other than the applicant's home country.

The fellowship is offered to carry out postgraduate research in the natural sciences. Each fellowship will be offered for three years and will cover travel expenses, a modest monthly living allowance, the amount of which will be determined in consultation with the host institution.

An applicant who wishes to register as a PhD student at her home institute can choose a sandwich option, whereby part of the research programme is undertaken at a host institute in another developing country. In this case the fellowship provides support (travel, accommodation and living expenses) only while at the host institution. The minimum period abroad is six months. The fellowship does not provide support while the applicant is at the home institute.

Alternatively, an applicant can enroll as a full-time research student at an institution outside her country, in this case the fellowship will provide support (travel, accommodation and living expenses) for 3 years.

The host institution will be expected to provide the necessary facilities such as tuition, training, supervision, laboratory supplies etc.

Accompanying persons are not eligible for support.

Host Institution

Applicants should select renowned institutes in developing countries, from outside their own country, and are encouraged to apply for postgraduate admission in advance. To this purpose, it is recommended that applicants contact the chosen host institute(s) with the CV and short research proposal, mentioning that they are intending to apply for a OWSD fellowship. When submitting the application to OWSD, however, it is not obligatory that the applicant has either applied and/or obtained admission at the host institute.

In case of difficulty in selecting host institutes, OWSD can provide a list of centres of excellence in the South, compiled by TWAS. This information will be provided if the applicant informs OWSD of the precise field of proposed research (see next paragraph).

Eligibility

The fellowships are open to qualified young women science graduates (generally below 40 years of age) from countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and/or LDCs.

The minimum qualification of applicants is an M.Sc. degree (or equivalent), or an outstanding B.Sc. honours degree, in the natural sciences.

Important: Following recent discussions with donors, earlier restrictions that limited eligible research projects to those in the basic sciences have been dropped. Therefore, applications can now be accepted from female scientists in all branches of the natural sciences.

Applicants already on site in the host country will not be considered eligible.

The host institute where the applicant wishes to pursue her doctorate degree must be in a developing country other than her own.

The applicant must be willing to return to her own country after completion of the fellowship.

Note: Sub-Saharan African countries that are not in the list are eligible under the programme.

Selection

The fellowships are highly competitive, and the selection will be based on scientific competence and merit.

The applications will be reviewed by a panel of eminent scientists, appointed by the Executive Board of OWSD.

Application

Applicants should complete all parts of the application form, and enclose copies of all university degree certificates, and the university-issued transcripts, which should include grades, courses taken, etc.

If the applicant has already gained admission at an institution of excellence in the South (i.e., in a developing country), a copy of the letter of acceptance from the institution must be enclosed.

If the applicant is registered for a doctorate degree at an institution in her home country, and wishes to pursue part of her research at another institution under a "sandwich programme", a letter of recommendation from the home institute supervisor must be enclosed.

Two referee letters from senior scientists familiar with the applicant's studies must be enclosed with the application in sealed envelopes OR must be sent by email to info@owsdw.org. The subject line of the email must contain: OWSD/PG/candidate’s surname. Only signed reference letters can be accepted.

Applications must be clearly typewritten in English and completed in all parts; OWSD will not process incomplete and/or illegible applications. OWSD will inform the applicant as soon as the application is processed.

Overview

The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) are designed to promote capacity building within organisations in 61 countries by providing training and education to mid-career staff. The NFP is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the budget for development cooperation.

The overall aim of the NFP is to help alleviate qualitative and quantitative shortages of skilled manpower within a wide range of governmental, private and non-governmental organisations. This is done by offering fellowships to mid-career professionals to improve the capacity of their employing organisations.

The fellowship is a supplement to the candidate’s salary and a contribution towards the expenses related to the course or study programme.

NFP sub-programmes

The NFP offers you three sub-programmes to choose from:

Master's degree programmes

Fellowships are available for a selected number of master’s degree programmes. These programmes have a duration of between 12 and 24 months. A master’s degree programme leads to a Dutch master's degree.

You can apply for an NFP Master's degree fellowship for one of the master's degree programmes listed on the NFP course list 2012-2013.

Short courses

Fellowships are available for a selected number of Short courses offered by Dutch institutions that provide professional training at post-secondary level. These courses have a duration of between two weeks and twelve months. The courses lead to a Dutch certificate or diploma.

PhD studies

Fellowships are available for PhD research with a maximum duration of four years. You are allowed to seek alternative sources of funding. A minimum of 25% of your research must take place in an NFP country.

You can apply for a PhD fellowship after your research proposal has been accepted by a Dutch institution listed in the NFP brochure 2012-2013.

Eligibility

To be eligible for an NFP fellowship you must:

be a mid-career professional with at least three years' relevant work experience;

be a national of, and working and living in one of the countries on the NFP country list valid at the time of application;

be nominated by your employer, who pledges to continue paying your salary and guarantees that you will be able to return to the same or an equivalent position at the end of your fellowship period;

have been unconditionally admitted by a Dutch institution to one of the Master’s degree programmes or Short courses on the 2012-2013 course list, or have agreed upon a PhD research proposal with the Dutch institution. This means that you must have met all the academic requirements set by the Dutch institution;

not already have received an NFP fellowship for a master’s degree programme or a PhD fellowship.

not already have received two NFP fellowships for a short course and you must not have already received a fellowship in the year preceding your application.

not be employed by:
- a multinational corporation (e.g. Shell, Unilever, Microsoft);
- a large national and/or commercial organisation;
- a bilateral donor organisation (e.g. USAID, DFID, Danida, Sida, Dutch ministry of Foreign affairs, FinAid, AusAid, ADC, SwissAid);
- a multilateral donor organisation, (e.g. a UN organisation, the World Bank, the IMF, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank, IADB);
- an international NGO (e.g. Oxfam, Plan, Care).

have completed and submitted an NFP PhD study, master’s degree programme or short course application, including all the required documentation, before the applicable fellowship application deadline;

be employed in an area to which the study will make a relevant contribution;

have a clear-cut, functional relationship with a relevant organisation and be in a position to introduce the newly acquired skills and knowledge into that organisation;

be full-time available for the entire period of the programme or course and be physically and mentally able to take part in the entire programme;

endorse the objective and the aim of the NFP and use your new knowledge and skills to support your employing organisation and your country. Nuffic urges you to return to your home country upon finishing the course or programme to meet the NFP aim in the most effective way.

Priorities

Your chances of obtaining an NFP scholarship go up if you:

live and work in Sub-Saharan Africa;

are a woman;

belong to a priority groups and/or are from a marginalised region as defined by the Dutch embassy in your country. You can find these priorities on the embassy's website.

How to apply

To be eligible for an NFP fellowship, candidates need to be admitted to the master’s degree programme or short course for which they would like an NFP fellowship or be admitted as a PhD student.

Obtain academic admission

You first apply for academic admission directly to the Dutch institution. Your admission must be unconditional in terms of your education and language proficiency. Admission may be granted only, subject to you finding suitable funding for the programme.

You are strongly advised to seek academic admission as early as possible to allow the institution to process your application in time. Check the deadlines for academic admission with the Dutch institution directly for up-to-date information.

The academic admission process for a PhD study is an individual track. If you want to be admitted as a PhD student check the requirements and the deadlines with the Dutch institution.

If you have been admitted to more than one course or study programme in one fellowship per application deadline you will have to choose one programme before you apply for a fellowship.

Prepare your application for an NFP fellowship

Your NFP application consists of:

a copy of a valid passport or other official identity document;

an employer’s statement;

a statement from the Government Authority (if applicable);

Statements of motivation, responding to the following questions:
- Why do you wish to pursue this course or programme?
- How will your employer benefit from the course or programme?
- How will your country benefit from the course or programme?
- How will you put your new skills and knowledge to work when you return to your job?

In addition, if you apply for a PhD fellowship:

A letter of a co-supervisor in your own country (if applicable);

The application you submit to Nuffic must be complete. After you have submitted your application you cannot make any adjustments or additions anymore.

The Heinrich Böll Foundation grants scholarships to approximately 1,000 undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students of all subjects and nationalities per year, who are pursuing their degree at universities, universities of applied sciences (‘Fachhochschulen’), or universities of the arts (‘Kunsthochschulen’). We expect our scholarship recipients to have excellent academic records, to be socially and politically engaged, and to have an active interest in the basic values of the foundation: ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self determination and justice.

Next Application Deadlines

A. Applicants for a student scholarship

Students of all subjects who are pursuing a FIRST university degree and who gained their university entrance qualification from a German school (‚Bildungsinländer_innen‘)

Applicants must provide proof that they have been accepted as a doctoral student by an institution of higher education in Germany or an EU country.
Preference will be given to dissertation projects related to the working areas of the Heinrich Böll Foundation.

Overview

The programme addresses pressing global issues of sustainability, climate change, development, peacebuilding, and human rights through an innovative interdisciplinary approach that integrates the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The programme is intended for recent graduates, professionals, and practitioners, offering the unique opportunity to study at a global university within the framework of the United Nations. It provides students with the knowledge and skills to make important contributions towards solving global issues, whether through employment by UN agencies, other international organizations, governments, civil society, or the private sector.

The programme is practically oriented, user-focused, and of the highest academic quality. It offers opportunities to gain practical experience through internships or field research with a UN agency or other international organization. The programme builds on the strong record of the United Nations University (UNU) in training and capacity development, and utilizes the extensive network of scholars and academic institutions participating in UNU research.

Students who earn at least 30 credits, successfully complete a master’s thesis, and pass the final examination will receive a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Sustainability, Development, and Peace. The standard period of study is two years; the programme starts in September, with students expected to complete all the requirements by July in the second academic year after enrolment.

UNU-ISP welcomes applicants with:

A keen interest in the pressing global issues on the UN agenda, and in particular those of sustainability, development, and peace.
The intention to proactively apply academic research findings to policymaking.
A strong desire to contribute to the solving of problems concerning global environment, peace, and development, through an interdisciplinary approach.

Admission Requirements

Applicants for the Master of Science in Sustainability, Development, and Peace are required to have met the following requirements by the application deadline in order to be considered:

1. A completed bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognised university or institution of higher education

Those who expect to graduate and have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent conferred before enrolment may also apply.

2. A particular interest and career aspiration in at least one of the following thematic areas:

Financial Support

The Japan Foundation for UNU (JFUNU) Scholarship is available for outstanding applicants from developing countries who can demonstrate a need for financial assistance, and they will be considered as candidates for the award of the scholarship.

The JFUNU scholarship covers the full tuition fees, and provides a monthly allowance of 150,000 JPY* for living expenses for a maximum of 24 months. Travel costs to and from Japan, visa handling fees, and health/accident insurance costs must be covered by the student.

*150,000 JPY is the average monthly living cost for an international student without dependents in Tokyo, although this amount may vary depending on the lifestyle of the student.

An Immersive Program in Arts Management Strategy

As a key part of the DeVos Institute's mission, the Fellowship at the DeVos Institute for Arts Management is an immersive program in arts management strategy designed to prepare mid-career arts managers for executive positions in today’s complex arts environment. Hosted at one of the largest and most dynamic performing arts institutions, the Fellowship offers a structured blend of academic training, hands-on work experience, independent and collective learning opportunities, and personalized mentoring.

Fellows develop close working relationships with Kennedy Center leadership, complete significant projects within the context of the Kennedy Center, and are connected to a vast network of DeVos Institute alumni throughout the United States and in 39 countries worldwide.

The Fellowship includes:

Weekly courses taught by Kennedy Center senior staff in strategic planning, development, marketing, and finance
Seminars in special topic areas including law, technology, programming, and education
Practical rotations in three Kennedy Center departments
The design and completion of independent projects in partnership with the DeVos Institute
Participation in capacity building activities led by the DeVos Institute
Participation in major Kennedy Center events

The nine-month,full time program begins September 2012. Participants will receive a $20,000 living allowance, program materials, and reimbursement for health insurance coverage. Fellows also have the opportunity to receive tickets to performances at the Kennedy Center and relocation assistance.

*The curriculum of the nine-month Fellowship is designed for arts managers with a primary interest working in business environments with philanthropic models similar to those found in the United States. Overview

The University of Adelaide offers a scholarships scheme for international students undertaking postgraduate research study. Its purpose is to attract high quality overseas postgraduate students to areas of research strength in the University of Adelaide to support its research effort. The selection for scholarships is extremely competitive.

A number of ASI scholarships may be available in the mid year round of scholarships for semester 2, 2012 to outstanding international students from any country undertaking postgraduate research in any academic discipline.

The ASI provides:

Course tuition fees for two years for a Masters degree by Research and three years for a Doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only);
An annual living allowance of approximately $23,728 (2012 value) for the normal duration of the program; and
If the award holder holds a subclass 574 visa the award covers the cost of compulsory standard Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Worldcare policy for the student and their spouse and dependents (if any) for the period of the scholarship. If the award holder does not hold a subclass 574 visa then he/she is responsible for the cost of health insurance.

The scholarship does NOT cover visa application fees.

Applicants should hold at least the equivalent of an Australian First Class Honours degree. This is a four year degree with a major research project in the final year. Other criteria that will be taken into consideration is undergraduate performance, bachelor and honours awards and scholarships, other postgraduate degrees, publications in internationally refereed journals, the presentation of conference papers and relevant industry experience.

Applications for these scholarships are always highly competitive. Generally ASI recipients have completed a Masters degree including a significant research component and have several publications and relevant work and research experience.

Conditions

ASI Scholarship will be awarded strictly on academic merit. Extra-curricular achievements will not be considered.
Citizens and Permanent Residents of Australia, and citizens of New Zealand are ineligible.
Those undertaking research via remote candidature are ineligible.
International applicants are not eligible for an ASI if they have already commenced the degree for which they are seeking an award, unless they can establish that they were unable to apply for an ASI in the last round of the previous calendar year.
International applicants who have not provided evidence of their meeting English language proficiency requirements by the closing date are not eligible for an ASI.
International applicants must not hold a research qualification regarded by the University of Adelaide to be equivalent to an Australian Research Doctorate degree or, if undertaking a Research Masters degree, not hold a research qualification regarded by the University of Adelaide to be equivalent to or higher than an Australian Research Masters degree.
Candidates are required to enrol in the University of Adelaide as 'international students' and must maintain 'international student' status for the duration of their enrolment in the University.
Scholarships holders must commence study at The University of Adelaide in semester 2, 2012. No ASI may be commenced after 30 November 2012.
Scholarship winners will not be permitted to defer commencement until 2013.
Applicants who applied in previous international major scholarship rounds are not eligible to apply again.
The offer of an ASI scholarship is contingent upon a student not being offered another award by the Commonwealth of Australia, The University of Adelaide, or an overseas sponsor. The University reserves the right to withdraw an offer of a scholarship at any time prior to enrolment if it is advised that a awardee has been offered a scholarship equal to or in excess of the financial value of the award offered by the University

The Riga Graduate School of Law announces the following scholarships for an LL.M degree in Public International Law and Human Rights funded by the Open Society Foundation (OSF):

Eligible students currently are invited to apply for the Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) Public International Law and Human Rights Programme. The programme provides expertise in Public International Law and Human Rights and also offers courses in European Law. The programme is competitive and very prestigious. The Programme is based at the RGSL located in Riga, Latvia. It is available to individuals with bachelor’s or master’s degree in law or related fields (or will be awarded a degree prior to admission to the programme), obtained in at least four years long studies, if basic knowledge in law and corresponding work experience is acquired; second level professional higher education, professional bachelor’s or master’s degree in law or other related fields, if basic knowledge in law and corresponding work experience is acquired. The 2012/2013 Programme starts on 4 September 2012.

The purpose of these scholarships is to support students who have demonstrated academic excellence in law or a comparable field of study and have a demonstrated commitment to work in the field of public law, human rights, or public service.

Scholarships are available to students from Russia, Byelorussia, Ukraine and South Eastern Europe and Central Eurasia regions (see eligible countries below). Each scholarship recipient will receive an amount covering tuition and fees for the LL.M study programme. An additional scholarship is allocated for travel, accommodation and incidental education expenses. Students granted a scholarship must write their master’s thesis in the field of public international law or human rights. Priority will be given to students who commit to work in any of the following areas upon completion of the programme: human rights, public law and public service. Furthermore, RGSL seeks to recruit students who have worked within an organization with which OSF has a relationship already, or students who are willing to work with such an organization upon completion of the programme. In the application, students are required to provide specific detail on their expectations work in a related field upon completion of the programme.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

Satisfy standard RGSL entry requirements (with respect to educational background and English proficiency);
Have experience in the fields of public international law or human rights for a minimum of one year;
Indicate in the application: current place of employment and specify in detail the applicant's plan to return to work in the field of public service after completing the LL.M programme.

The following documents should be attached to the application form:

A legalized copy of the diploma/degree and diploma/degree transcript with an English translation.
Official results of English competency exams: TOEFL, Institutional TOEFL or IELTS not older than 3 years. The required minimum result is 525 points for TOEFL (for a computer test - 196; Internet based test - 69-70) and 5.5 for IELTS.
A passport copy.
2 (two) recommendation letters from a professional or academic contact describing the applicant’s academic record, achievements and activities (research, community service, and programme development) in Public International Law, Human Rights or related discipline;

If the diploma or degree is obtained outside Latvia, academic recognition has to be made by the Latvian Academic Information Centre (AIC). The application is registered after review from AIC is requested and received by the RGSL. The final decision regarding the qualification for admission is taken by RGSL.

Overview

SRH University Heidelberg was selected as a partner for the Baden-Wuerttemberg Scholarship, a program of the Baden-Wuerttemberg Foundation.

This scholarship is available exclusively for students from our Partner Schools who want to study here for 3 - 11 months.

The closing date for applications is 31 March 2012 for the academic year 2012/2013 (proposed starting date is 1 July 2012). The scholarships are offered annually.

The final selection and announcement of the scholarship awards by the Baden-Wuerttemberg Foundation will be made in June 2012.

The application for the scholarship requires a written application, but you can scan and e-mail all documents. The university does not send out rejection letters. The applications forms will not be returned and we ask that you send us only copies of all documents. Additionally, applicants have to log in and upload their documents in the new portal for the Baden-Wuerttemberg Scholarship. This will be possible from March 2012 and all applicants who have applied in writing will receive a confimation message from us!

The selection for the Baden-Wuerttemberg scholarship award is made by a select commitee. Criteria for selection will a high academic performance in addition to the social and intercultural competence of the candidate.

In evaluating the applicant the following criteria will be considered:

Previous academic work, in particular ECTS credits achieved (for Master's degree students the final grade of previous studies)

Motivation to study abroad, language skills and knowledge of the country selected

Letters of recommendation from a lecturer of your university or from your international office

Additional important criteria includes previous personal history, awards, previous employment and internships, extra-curricular or extra-professional involvement, e.g. in voluntary work, community, social, university policy or political commitment, collaboration with organizations etc.

The scholarship cannot be combined with other grants such as ERASMUS grants or other scholarships.

The Right Livelihood College (RLC) is the global capacity building initiative of the Right Livelihood Award, known as the "Alternative Nobel Prize". The RLC Campus in Bonn promotes cooperation and exchange between winners of the “Alternative Nobel Prize”, scientists and policy makers in fields of poverty
alleviation, social justice, and environmental sustainability (www.rlc-bonn.de). It is hosted by the Center for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn, and sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

In this context, RLC Bonn and DAAD offer a 3-year PhD scholarship for candidates
from developing and transition countries to carry out an empirical PhD research
project on a topic related to the topic ‘Social Mobilization for Change’.

Social mobilization for change refers to grassroots initiatives where people organise
themselves to actively engage for change by working on social, political and
economic alternatives as well as justice. Envisioned research projects explore the
dynamics of social mobilization, their pitfalls, potentials and conditions of success.
The proposed topics may refer to concepts like political opportunity structures,
transnational advocacy networks or post-development.

Proposals should be of practical relevance for the work of ‘Alternative Nobel Prize’
winners (see under: www.rightlivelihood.org/laureates.html).

The position starts as of August 1, 2012.

The candidate will be integrated into the ZEF Doctoral Studies Program, a structured
PhD program in English language (www.zef.de/doctoralprogram.html). ZEFs doctoral
program is unique in Europe in terms of interdisciplinarity, internationality (students
from 80 countries), and size (around 30 new PhD students each year).
ZEF, the host institute of the RLC Campus Bonn, ranks among the Top 10 of Science
and Technology Think Tanks worldwide. It is based in the City of Bonn in Germany -
a center of international scientific, development and UN organizations.

Qualified applicants should come from a developing or transition country and actually reside there. They should hold an excellent master’s or equivalent degree in development studies, sociology, anthropology, political sciences, geography or related disciplines and have outstanding empirical research expertise in the fields of civil society, participatory and community-based empowerment. Experience in interdisciplinarity is an asset. Fluency in English is mandatory. The age limit is 32 years.

The scholarship is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It covers a 3-year PhD junior researcher position at RLC-ZEF in Bonn and respective costs for travel and research.

The Policy Research Division (POR) of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada is pleased to announce the 2012-2013 Cadieux-Léger Fellowship.

The Cadieux-Léger Fellow is integrated in the Policy Research Division at DFAIT as a full-fledged analyst.

While at DFAIT, the Fellow is expected to advance Canadian foreign policy and the Policy Staff's research agenda, which includes the following themes:

Natural Resources and Canada’s International Relations
Migration and Diversity Management: Implications for International Policy
Networked Societies and Foreign Policy
Global Rebalancing and Burden-Sharing

Since the Policy Research agenda will enter a new cycle at the end of 2012, we welcome proposals in areas beyond these four themes which have clear relevance to Canadian foreign policy priorities, such as global governance or innovation in the practice of diplomacy. The relevance and quality of the research proposal is an important factor in the selection process.

The Policy Staff develops its research based on the Open Policy Development Model (OPDM), adapting foreign policy making to the challenges of the 21st century. The OPDM aims to create a more efficient and collaborative work environment through knowledge-sharing, exchanging experience and ideas, as well as soliciting and welcoming input from a variety of stakeholders in new ways, from the beginning of the policy development process. In this respect, we expect the Fellow to build new networks within DFAIT, the government and with external experts. We place a particular emphasis on consulting new sets of stakeholders whose good ideas can be engaged, leveraged and empowered.

The Fellow's work should include writing papers, offering presentations, and participating in the policy development process, including by networking with internal and external experts and contributing to policy working groups.

Eligibility

The ideal candidate will:

be available from September 2012 to June 2013;
be working towards a PhD on a topic of relevance to Canada's foreign policy priorities;
be recognized as having full-time student status by the academic institution in which they are presently enrolled and maintain this status during the whole fellowship period. Part-time students working on their thesis or recognized by the academic institution in which they are presently enrolled as having a disability will also be considered;
be required to do a supervised research work term; and
be enrolled in an academic program that includes supervised laboratory or field research related to a thesis or other major research project.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to obtain a Secret-level security clearance in order to finalize the selection procedure.

* While non-Canadians may apply, preference is given to Canadian citizens. A Canadian citizen is a person who was born in Canada or who has obtained Canadian citizenship.

Selection Criteria

Applying for the Cadieux-Léger Fellowship is done through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP). Only candidates that have completed this step of the process will be considered.

Interested candidates must provide the following information:

a curriculum vitae;
a complete transcript;
a one page research proposal on a significant foreign policy issue and its implications for Canada;
a proof of enrolment for 2012-13 in a recognized academic institution;
a sample paper or publication; and
the names of three references.

Award

The Cadieux-Léger Fellowship lasts up to nine months and the Fellow will receive a total sum not greater than $48,000.

Spain: Undergraduate Summer Program for International Students

The Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO; Centro Nacional de Investigaciones
Oncológicas), in Madrid, Spain, offers research training opportunities to students of all
nationalities interested in pursuing a research career in the Life Sciences.
Up to 12 summer training positions will be awarded during 2012 to undergraduate
university students in their final two years of biomedicine-related studies in any country.

The Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) announces up to 12 vacancies for undergraduate students to work in a lab at the CNIO over the summer.

The programme runs from June 18th to August 10th, and is open to undergraduate students of any nationality who are in their final two years of studies in the Life Sciences or related subjects (e.g. Biology, Biomedicine, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Bioinformatics). Students will receive a bursary of 1.120€ for expenses plus the reimbursement of travel expenses.

Each student will be matched with a specific laboratory based on the student’s interest and background. The student will be working under the supervision of the group/unit leader or a member of the research group. The participants will attend a series of seminars given by faculty members and researchers from the CNIO. Students will be required to present the results of their summer projects in a special session to be held at the end of the programme.

Fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis taking into consideration the student’s academic record and their letters of motivation.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

1- You must be an undergraduate university student in your final two years of Life
Sciences or Biomedicine-related studies (in any country) and planning on pursuing
a career in the Life Sciences.
2- You must have an excellent academic track record with a Grade Point Average
(GPA) above 0.75 (with your GPA as the numerator and the highest possible GPA
as the denominator).
3- You must have a good knowledge of English.
4- You must be available from June 18th to August 10th (8 weeks) to attend the
training programme. If you cannot be at the CNIO during this period, you will not
be eligible for the programme.

Relevant undergraduate degree from a college, university or technical college of acceptable standing in the field of science, engineering or information technology

Minimum CGPA required: 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.

Competence in spoken and written English. Minimum TOEFL score: 91 (IBT) on the international TOEFL. Minimum academic IELTS score: 6.5.

Minimum GRE quantitative score: 700(or 155 on the new scale) .

Academic record and credentials must indicate the ability to achieve distinction

Overview

The University of Westminster is a diverse centre for study located in central London offering international postgraduate scholarships to students from developing countries.

Amount:	Full tuition fee waivers, accommodation, living expenses and flights to and from London.
Eligibility:	You must be an international student from a developing country and hold an offer for a full-time Masters degree.
Criteria:	Academic excellence, development potential and financial need.
Deadline:	31 May 2012

These generous awards are aimed at fully funding you if you are from a developing country and will study a full-time Masters degree at the University. Particular preference will be given to you if you can demonstrate how the knowledge you acquire from your studies will aid the development of your own country.

Application procedure and presentation guidelines

Important points

Apply for scholarships only after you have been offered a place (conditional or unconditional) on a course at the University of Westminster.
Please do not apply if you have already enrolled or begun a course of study at the University of Westminster.
Read the information on individual scholarships carefully and ensure that you only apply for ones that you are eligible for and meet the criteria of. For example, do not apply for the Vietnam Scholarship unless you are from Vietnam.
Photocopy the application form at the back of our scholarships brochure or print the form from our website.
Use the same application form when applying for more than one scholarship.
Attach the relevant papers only and keep your supporting documents to a minimum. The quantity of documents sent does not give any advantage.
Attach translations where supporting documents are in any other language but English.
Word process the application as far as possible. If handwriting the application, please ensure it is written clearly and in block letters. Illegible applications will be considered ineligible.
Keep your application concise. If we ask for 400 words we mean it, as it is a test of how you can marshal your argument concisely. Exceeding the limit will greatly reduce your chances of an award.
Unless you are applying for a specific scholarship, just tell us what level of support you require eg, fees only, fees and accommodation etc and we will match the scholarship to your needs where possible.
Provide us with a valid email address. The University and its Scholarships Committee is not responsible for opportunities missed because of an invalid email address.
Only send copies of your academic transcript as we will not be able to return any original documentation sent.
It is acceptable for your university to send transcripts to us directly, but we will not be able to return them to you at any stage.
If, as an international student, you are already in the U.K. please explain why.

Guidelines

Please note we only accept hard copy of your application, we do not accept faxes or email attachments. Please allow sufficient time for your application to reach us by mail.

The website addresses possible questions that might arise while applying for scholarships. Please read it carefully and only contact the Scholarships Office if the information you require is not there.

If you are a full-time applicant, do not submit an application for a scholarship prior to or along with your UCAS application. If you are a part-time applicant, please make an admissions application to study at the University before applying for a scholarship.

Apply only if you are holding an offer (conditional or unconditional) of a place on a course at the University of Westminster.

Please check individual scholarships for deadlines.

The application must be word processed and if not then reasons for being unable to do so given.

The scholarships procedure is a separate procedure. Therefore, please make sure that you send in a separate application to the Scholarships Office accompanied with:

A copy of your results achieved so far in your most recent/current academic study (eg As/A Level, access course or BTEC results achieved so far)
A reference letter for your scholarship application>
A copy of your offer letter or UCAS confirmation letter
Your statement of support (this is Section B of the application form)
A copy of your IELTS/TOEFL result. These are English language qualifications, and you are only required to submit this if you are an international or European applicant living overseas.

Italy: MBA Scholarship in International Business

MIB School of Management of Trieste, Italy is pleased to announce a scholarship competition for applicants to the XXIII Edition of the MBA in International Business.

The Scholarships will go toward tuition fees to attend the XXIII edition of the MBA in International Business programme (September 2012 - September 2013).

The Scholarships will cover up to 50% of the tuition fees. The full tuition fees are equivalent to 25.000,00 EUR (21% VAT included). The amount of the scholarships will be discounted from the overall tuition fees. In case of course abandonment or exclusion for any reason, no amount of the scholarship will be paid or reimbursed.

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

- Academic degree (or equivalent qualification) in any discipline.
- Good working knowledge of English (TOEFL/IELTS/PTE certificate is recommended).
- Minimum 3 years of work experience.

MIB School of Management will award scholarships to the best candidates on the basis of educational qualifications, professional skills and motivation shown during the entrance interview.

To be considered for a scholarship, the application form for the programme must be completed on-line at

In order to finalize the application, the following documents must be received:

- Degree certificate and transcript
- Two letters of recommendation
- A certificate demonstrating adequate knowledge of English such as TOEFL/IELTS/PTE (alternatively,

Morgan Stanley Scholarships for Study in Japan

Underscoring its long-term commitment to education and fostering U.S.-Japan relations, Morgan Stanley, which has had a presence in Japan for 40 years, is proud to support the US-Japan Bridging Foundation’s Bridging Project for Study Abroad in Japan. Morgan Stanley Japan will award two $7,500 scholarships to US students who who are studying in Japan for the academic year 2012-2013.

Eligible students include juniors and seniors at US universities with an interest in policy, economics, or international finance who have been accepted for study in Japan.

Co-sponsors of the scholarships are the US-Japan Bridging Foundation and the American Association of Teachers of Japanese, which will coordinate the collection of applications and the initial selection process. The final selection of scholarship recipients will be made by Morgan Stanley management in Tokyo.

To compete for the Morgan Stanley Japan scholarships, students must comply with the following procedure:

Submit a complete application for the Bridging Scholarship to the Bridging Project Clearinghouse (AATJ, UCB 366, 1424 Broadway, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO 80309-0366). Bridging Scholarship application forms and information can be found at www.aatj.org/studyabroad/scholarships.html. The deadline for receipt of applications is April 6, 2012.
In addition, send to the Bridging Project Clearinghouse a 6-10-page research paper on one of the following topics: (The paper’s conclusions should rely on both primary and secondary sources, in print as well as online.)
1. The financial and economic turmoil that began in 2008 has affected countries all over the globe. How has the crisis impacted the Japanese economy? What does the upheaval say about Japan's economic strengths, its weaknesses, and the policy prescriptions Japan needs for future prosperity?
2. The "triple blow" that was dealt to Japan by the March 11, 2011, earthquake and tsunami in the Tohoku region and the subsequent and ongoing nuclear crisis in Fukushima have had economic as well as human impacts that may linger for some time. How could Japan best turn this crisis into an opportunity for the future of the country?
3. How are geopolitical developments in China and Asia affecting the Japanese economy and its capital markets? What are the costs and benefits of a more active or a more passive stance on contributions by Japan to regional and global issues?
4. What will be the impact of Japan’s declining population on its domestic economy and status as a global economic power?

The deadline for receipt of the research paper (which should be submitted by e-mail toaatj@aatj.org ) is April 6, 2012.
