To apply for the scholarship, applicants must submit an essay (300 words) on why you believe you should receive the scholarship. The closing date for submissions is May 15th 2009.

In general, the scholarships are awarded right in the beginning of the program and last for three years. Please note that at the end of the first year of the Ph.D. program the doctoral students’ performance is evaluated. Dismissal from the program and termination of the scholarship are possible if progress and aptitude have not met MGSE requirements.

The MASDAR Institute is the centerpiece of the MASDAR Initiative, a landmark program by the government of Abu Dhabi to establish an entirely new economic sector dedicated to alternative and sustainable energy. The MASDAR Institute is a private, not-for-profit, independent, research-driven institute developed with the support and cooperation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). MIT provides assistance in recruitment of faculty members and senior administrative staff and the provision of course curriculum, amongst other matters. The Institute is located inside the world’s first carbon neutral, zero waste Masdar City which will be powered solely by alternative energy, mainly solar energy.

The Institute offers Masters and (in 2011) PhD programs in science and engineering disciplines, with a focus on advanced energy and sustainable technologies. It welcomes and encourages applications from qualified students and provides scholarships to talented students who meet its high admission standards.

1. According to the regulation stipulated by MOE, all the undergraduate programs are instructed in Chinese. Applicants with no command of Chinese are generally required to take Chinese language courses for 1-2 years before starting their academic programs. Applicants who apply for study in science, engineering, agriculture, medicine (western medicine), economics, management and law are required to take Chinese language courses for 1 year. Applicants who apply for study in literature, history, philosophy, and medicine (traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese herb medicine) are required to take Chinese language courses for 2 years.
2. Some courses set for general scholars, senior scholars and postgraduate students in some universities can be conducted in English. The EWKLP has a three-month curriculum, which synthesizes the best practices of both the East and West. You will sharpen your global management knowledge and skills, and build the confidence necessary for success in global business situations.

EWKLP is run by JAIMS, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Fujitsu established JAIMS as a nonprofit postgraduate institute in 1972. Many Fujitsu Scholarship recipients are now working for corporate and social-service organizations across the globe. As a EWKLP graduate, you too will become a member of a vibrant global alumni network.

Qualifications :

In addition to qualifying for the Fujitsu Scholarship, you must also qualify for admission to JAIMS’ EWKLP. For complete EWKLP information, refer to the EWKLP Application Packet contained at the bottom of the Application Checklist section. Fujitsu Scholarship qualifications include the following:

1. A bachelor’s degree or a degree equivalent to a four-year standard baccalaureate degree in any discipline from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
2. Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
3. A minimum TOEFL score of 577/233/90 (paper/computer/Internet), TOEIC score of 750, or IELTS overall band test result of 6.5 or higher from tests taken between January 2007 and January 2009. Applicants who received a bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree with at least two years of full-time coursework within the last five years from a regionally accredited institution in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, or New Zealand; or from a university in Canada, Africa or Singapore, where English is the language of instruction are exempt from taking the TOEFL, TOEIC, or IELTS.
4. A minimum of three years of relevant full-time work experience (five years preferred) at the time of application.
5. To qualify for the Fujitsu Scholarship, applicants must be a resident of the state of Hawaii, U.S.A., or a citizen of one of the following countries: Australia, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam.

Each year nearly 90 students will be given major scholarships (for one year in the UK, and for two years in NL).

Partners in the scheme are the University of Cambridge, Durham University, The University of Edinburgh, Imperial College London, University of Leeds, The University of Oxford and University College London in the UK, and with Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology and University of Twente in the Netherlands. These universities also contribute to the funding of scholarships.

The scholarships are known as Shell Centenary Scholarships (in the UK), Royal Dutch Shell Centenary Scholarships (in the NL).

A number of scholarships are also jointly funded with the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and are known as Shell Centenary Chevening Scholarships.

Please note that all applications to compete for a scholarship must be directed to the individual universities and not to The Shell Centenary Scholarship Fund.

A scholarship application should accompany, or follow, a University Graduate Entry Application.

International Graduate Program for Advanced Science (IGPAS) is an interdisciplinary graduate program in the Graduate School of Science.

It was established in October 2004 as the first international graduate program founded in Japanese national universities. IGPAS offers courses in English for international students who are eager to obtain master’s and doctoral degrees from the Graduate School of Science. It is also aims to educate Japanese students to exert their abilities as internationally-active, professional scientists.
IGPAS has proudly reserved positions of Japanese government scholarship for its master’s students since its foundation, and in 2008, IGPAS-Super Doctoral Course (SDC) has been started for doctoral students jointly with the Institute for the International Advanced Research and Education (IIARE) of Tohoku University. Students of IGPAS-SDC benefit from fellowship by IIARE to promote world top-level, interdisciplinary research at the Graduate School of Science.

Prospective students will have excellent opportunities to study modern science and conduct cutting-edge research with top-level scientists currently working at Tohoku University.

IGPAS is a 5-year graduate program as the combination of a 2-year master’s program and a 3-year doctoral program. In the interdisciplinary program, students are affiliated to one of six departments in three groups based on the GCOE programs :

(ii) Mathematics, Astronomy, and Physics

(iii) Earth Science and Geophysics.
