Denny's Hungry for Education Scholarship Program offers 8 different scholarships to high school and college students residing in 12 specific states ((CA, FL,GA, IL, NV, SC, TX, NM, NY, CO, AZ, DC). A total of 34 scholarships will be awarded.

Some scholarships are for students of Asian-Pacific Island descent, other scholarships are targeted towards students from specific states. There are also scholarships for students majoring in certain fields of study, such as business, sciences, the arts, sports, education, public and community services. Each scholarship has its own criteria for grade point averages and SAT or ACT scores. All scholarships require an essay on how Denny's can impact childhood hunger in the United States.

CAPED Student Scholarships are awarded to students with disabilities who are pursuing post-secondary education in the state of California. Disabilities include any verified physical, mental, or learning disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities, as defined in the ADA Amendments Act of 2008.

Students must be enrolled in an accredited California state university, community college, or private college. Undergraduate students must have completed at least six semester or eight quarter units before applying and must have a grade point average of 2.5 or above. Graduate students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above and have completed at least three semester or four quarter units before applying.

Shop Smart Scholarship awards five scholarships to students who can demonstrate that they have sacrificed and worked hard to be able to afford college. The scholarship competition is open to high school students and undergraduate college students.

In order to apply, students need to write a 500 word essay explaining what steps they took or are taking in order to be able to go to college. One student, for example, sold haircuts to fellow students. Another student bought groceries and supplies using extreme couponing and sold them at a discount to colleagues.
