OFID (The OPEC Fund for International Development ) is pleased to announce that qualified applicants who have obtained or are on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree and who wish to study for a Master’s degree are welcome to apply for the OFID Scholarship 2011/2012.

The OFID scholarship will be awarded to support one student or candidate for Master’s degree studies. The applicant may be from any developing country, and he/she must first obtain admission to pursue a Master’s degree studies in a relevant field of development, in any recognized university/college in the world.

Through its scholarship scheme, OFID aims to help highly motivated, highly-driven individuals overcome one of the biggest challenges to their careers – the cost of graduate studies. The winner of the OFID Scholarship Award will receive a scholarship of up to US$100,000. The funds will be spread over a maximum of two years, toward the completion of a Master’s degree, or its equivalent, at an accredited educational institution, starting in the autumn of the academic year 2011/2012.

STEP 2: Register within the OFID Scholarship Portal by using your email address. Please note you can log into the portal as many times as required.

STEP 3: Fill out the application form. Make sure to save data each time you update your application. Once you are logged in, if the page remains inactive for more than two hours, your session will time-out and you may lose unsaved data. I. Eligibility

    Must be between the ages of 23-32 at the time of submitting his/her application.
    Must have obtained or be on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree with a Baccalaureate from an accredited college/university, or its equivalent.
    Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 rating system, or its equivalent.
    Must be matriculated at an accredited university for the upcoming academic year starting August/September 2011, and must maintain full-time status for the duration of the Master’s Degree.

    Must select a subject of study that pertains to OFID’s core mission, such as: economics of development (poverty reduction, energy and sustainable development), environment (desertification), or other related science and technology fields.

    Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Applications will be evaluated based on the information provided. II. Disbursement of the Scholarship Fund

The terms and conditions of payment will be determined in coordination with the student upon his/her selection in accordance with the following guidelines:

    The tuition fees, including any supplementary examination fees, as may be required by the academic institution, will be paid by OFID directly to the academic institution. Health insurance will be paid in accordance with the institution’s own standard medical scheme.
    A monthly allowance to cover living expenses, books and accommodation, will be transferred to the student’s own personal bank account on a quarterly basis.
    Prior to the start of his/her first year studies, the student will be paid a relocation grant, equal to two-month allowance. OFID will also pay for travel costs from the nearest airport to the student’s place of residence, to the nearest airport to the chosen place of study. Upon completion of the studies, the student will be paid the cost of one-way air ticket to his/her home country.

III. Required documents

    A completed on-line application form.
    A scanned copy of the last university degree or certificate.
    A scanned letter of acceptance from your chosen educational institution, confirming your admission, subject of study and duration of the Master’s degree program (must not exceed a maximum of two years).
    A proof of meeting any prerequisites, including language proficiency.
    A short essay – of about 500 words in English – giving reasons for applying for the OFID scholarship, explaining your educational goals, and clearly describing how you will use the experience gained from your Master’s degree studies to help in the development of your home country.

The Chevening awards are intended for outstanding graduates and young professionals with the potential to rise to senior and influential positions in the public or private sector, and who will be in a position to contribute to Nigeria’s social, economic and political future.

The Selection Board looks for candidates who can demonstrate that they are highly motivated, ambitious and able to demonstrate leadership potential, as well as attaining academic excellence.

2. Before registering ensure you read the required notes and application conditions. You are required to enter your name and accept the application conditions before proceeding to the application form.

3. If you are a new user, you will need to Register and create a password. Note that fields are case sensitive. Following successful registration, you will be directed to the Log in page.

4. Log in and enter your details as requested. All sections with a red star are mandatory. You must have Nigerian nationality to be eligible to apply for a Chevening award in Nigeria.

5. Use the icons on the right hand side of the page to save changes, delete changes, complete sections or log out without making changes. Do not submit your form unless you are certain you have completed all sections.

6. In Contact Details enter your address, e-mail and phone numbers, in order for us to contact you with the results of your application.

7. In Education Information click on Academic background to enter all your academic qualifications obtained since completing your secondary education, stating the institutions attended, the main subjects of study and when the main courses started and finished. Start with the most recent then the older.

8. In Professional Background list all your positions and employments details since you completed your university education or employment that is relevant to your application. 9. In Proposed Course provide us with details of your chosen studies and preferred institutions (You can use the website: Education UK | Home to search or find a specific course at UK universities) You can list more than one course and university

10. In Other Information enter the names and details of 2 referees. Then click OK to return to the main page

11. Your Personal Statement is vital to your application. Please state in the space provided, why you wish to study in the UK, describe your reasons for applying for the course you wish to follow and explain how it will help you with the work you expect to do on your return to your home country; you should include an outline of your intended profession, your ambitions and your career plan. Describe also, your most outstanding non-academic achievement involving other people where you demonstrated leadership potential (you may describe an extra curricular/sport/community/professional activity or an assignment. The application form advises maximum number of words.

12. Once you have submitted your form you will not be able to make any amendments. Save a copy of your application form on your computer and print it for future reference.

13. Once you have completed all fields and all sub-screens click the Submit button to send your application. You will get a page that informs you that your application has been submitted

14. After the deadline, you will receive an e-mail which confirms receipt application and provides you with an application reference number.

General Information

1. English Language Requirements: IELTS is not a criterion for selection for interview, but it is helpful to know the level of English if an applicant is fortunate enough to be called for interview. IELTS is a requirement for entry into all UK universities

2. Do not wait for the outcome of the selection process to apply to the universities of your choice. Apply for the scholarship and to universities simultaneously.

Application process

1. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) makes the final decision on applications for Chevening scholarships. Candidates are assessed on academic merit; achievements to date both in and outside of the academic and workplace areas; referees’ letters; proposed area of study and future career in line with the FCO priority areas; leadership potential and potential to further strengthen the UK-Israel bilateral relationship

2. References may be requested from the referees of candidates who are successful at the first selection stage. Candidates will also be required to bring the original reference letters and qualification certificates to the interview.

Loughborough University is delighted to announce full-fee scholarships for international full-time taught postgraduate students who are currently domiciled (permanently living) in Africa.
These will be known as the Loughborough University Graduate School Development Trust Africa Scholarships. The scholarships will cover 100% of the course fees for your chosen postgraduate taught course for one year (replacing any Departmental or Loughborough University scholarships or bursaries you may already have been awarded).
The scholarships are being funded through a combination of generous external funding and University funds. The University will award a limited number of scholarships and the standards required are very high.
Students will be expected to fund their travel and maintenance costs through other sources.

Application Process and Eligibility Criteria

For 2011 entry the scholarship application procedure is an open competition. Students may only apply for the scholarship after an offer for a place has been made. Students who are in possession of an offer (conditional or unconditional) of a place on a postgraduate taught course can apply for the scholarship using the application form which can be downloaded below.
The deadline for applications is 30th April 2011.
Applications will be initially shortlisted and the final decision on the awards will be made by a selection panel of senior staff of the University. The selection panel will use the following eligibility criteria when assessing applications:

Currently domiciled (permanently living) in Africa
Evidence of exceptional academic achievement (normally a 1st Class Honours Degree)
Commitment to return to their home country on completion of postgraduate programme
Evidence of the ability and commitment to making a significant contribution to their home country on their return
Full understanding of the costs involved in coming to study and live in the UK
Evidence of strong motivation and initiative to secure funds to cover the remainder of the costs involved

Applications are now invited from suitably qualified candidates for the 2011/2012 British Chevening Scholarship Awards. These awards, tenable for a maximum period of twelve months, are for postgraduate study at a UK university and are valid for the academic year commencing in September, 2011. The Chevening Scholarship Programme is a prestigious awards scheme that funds international postgraduate students who want to study in the UK for one academic year. It began in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international programme of Scholarships and Fellowships. The programme provides nearly 1,000 Scholarships at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the UK for postgraduate students or researchers from over 130 countries.

Who can apply?
You can apply for a Chevening scholarship if:

You are a postgraduate student who can prove your academic success and who has already begun a career in your chosen field.
You you have between two and five years working experience (depending on the country you are applying in), with an excellent track record illustrating your achievements and your potential to use the skills gained during your scholarship to make a difference in your country.
You have achieved an excellent mark for you undergraduate degree and can provide a transcript of your academic record. Specific academic requirements are available from the British Council offices in your country.
You are 21 years or older (there are upper age limits for specific countries so please ensure you check this during your applications process).
You are a resident in your country when you apply and provide your birth certificate (with translation).
