			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Japan</strong>.  Within the framework of the &#8220;Global Lab&#8221; project at the National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Tokyo, our lab is conducting pioneering work in combining the real world with the virtual world - in particular, the 3D online virtual world &#8220;Second Life&#8221; (and soon, OpenSim) - in novel ways, for the benefit of both.</p>
<p>We are looking for a dedicated Postdoc, who is interested in advancing the Global Lab project by:</p>
<ul>
<li> Investigating and implementing novel ideas that bridge the real world and the virtual world</li>
<li> Writing scientific papers for major conferences and journals</li>
<li> Supervising and organizing international internship students (Master and Ph.D. level)</li>
<li>Showing commitment to the project</li>
<li> Enjoying the life in a mega-city</li>
</ul>
<p>Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in computer science, with good programming skills in Java or C++ (with flexibility to adapt to C#). Interest and knowledge in 3D computer graphics, networks, and simulation are beneficial. English speaking is required.<span id="more-711"></span></p>

<p>The Graduate School of Computing in Medicine and Life Sciences (funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG, and the German Government within the German university excellence program) at Lübeck university is now offering the position of a <strong>Post-Doctoral Fellow.<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Funding period is 2 years, with possible extension(s). Applications are invited from candidates having research background in:</p>
<ul>
<li> <a href="http://www.scholarzip.com/germany-phd-positions-in-rehabilitation-robotics.html">Robotics</a> especially in Medical Applications,</li>
<li> Medical Technology,</li>
<li> Sensor-and Image-based Navigation in medical applications.</li>
</ul>
<p>The successful candidate will manage large research projects, support the school&#8217;s teaching program, and work towards the acquisition of new projects and external funding. In the research projects s(he) will directly manage a group of more than 3 full-time researchers.<span id="more-710"></span></p>
<p>We expect a PhD in one of the fields Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or <a href="http://www.scholarzip.com/research-fellowships-in-mathematics-physics-and-related-fields.html">Mathematics</a>. Expertise in robotics and/or sensor technology is of advantage.</p>
<p>Preference is given to self-motivated candidates with excellent communication skills.</p>
<p>Part-time work is possible. Compensation is competitive (Group E 14 of the German Tarifvertrag der Länder (TV-L)). A final evaluation of the position is done after the position has been filled.</p>

<p>7 PhD positions are available within the Marie Curie Initial Training Network HERODOT. The positions will be undertake in various European location under the coordination of Utrecht University. HERODOT is a European network that provides a training through research program for young researchers in the field of colloidal nanomaterials. It brings together a set of partners from European universities (Utrecht, Gent, Dortmund, Lille and Leuven), research centers (IEMN, IMEC) and industry (Philips and IBM). The research program concerns the development of quantum dot and quantum rod heterostructures with a focus on applications in photonics.</p>
<p>This covers a wide range of research topics, such as:</p>
<ul>
<li> Synthesis and processing of colloidal quantum dots and quantum rods.</li>
<li> Scanning probe microscopy (STM, EFM) of quantum dot heterostructures.</li>
<li> Optical characterization of colloidal nanomaterials.</li>

<p>The Berkeley Center for Structural Biology (BCSB) has an opportunity for a Postdoc to develop hardware and software for the automated control of data collection instrumentation and methods for automated data collection and analysis. You will provide technical and scientific support for users at the BCSB beamlines (http://bcsb.lbl.gov) at the Advanced Light Source in Berkeley California and participate on projects involving the structure determination of biological molecules and biomolecular complexes as required by users.</p>
<p>This is a one year Term appointment with the possibility of renewal under the same terms and conditions, contingent upon continued funding and availability of work.<span id="more-708"></span></p>
<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p>
<p>Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, you will:</p>
<ul>
<li>Assist in the development of hardware and software for the automated control of data collection instrumentation and methods for automated data collection and analysis.</li>
<li>Participate in engineering projects to advance the capabilities of the beamlines, including robotics systems for sample handling.</li>
<li>Assist in the development of instrumentation and methodology for biological crystallography.</li>
<li>Participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of collaborative experiments involving biological crystallography.</li>
<li>Take a lead role in supporting users regarding data collection, processing, archiving, and analysis.</li>
<li>Collaborate with colleagues both internal and external to the Berkeley Lab. Prepare documentation for beamline staff and users.</li>
<li>Prepare scientific data for publication in refereed journals and present findings at seminars and conferences.</li>
<li>Provide work oversight and direction to technical staff as needed (which will require occasional work off-hours and weekends).</li>
<li>Assist with developing research proposals that lead to continued funding in the area of biological crystallography for the BCSB/ALS.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Key Qualifications</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>A recent Ph.D. in physics, biology, bioengineering, biophysics, or related field.</li>
<li>Experience working in the area of synchrotron science using complex instrumentation and computer controls.</li>
<li>Experience with robotics hardware and control systems.</li>
<li>Experience with the collection of experimental data for biological crystallography.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and organize results for publication and presentation documented by publication record in either: physics, biology, bioengineering, biophysics, biochemistry or instrumentation fields.</li>
<li>Excellent written communication skills along with strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.</li>
<li>Experience in the use of computer programs required for biological crystallography.</li>
<li>The ability to work in a team environment and effectively interact with a broad range of colleagues.</li>
<li>Experience in UNIX computing is highly preferred.</li>
</ul>

<p>This is a unique postdoctoral opportunity to collaborate within a diverse and highly specialized team of scientists at the Molecular Foundry, Intel Corporation and universities, among other organizations. The primary role of this position is to synthesize, characterize and test new molecules for incorporation into highly efficient designer photoresists that are being developed for future technologies.</p>
<p>This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal for up to two years. This position involves working closely with scientists at the Molecular Foundry in Berkeley, CA and Intel Corporation in Hillsboro, OR.</p>
<p>The Molecular Foundry at Berkeley Lab is a user facility for the design, synthesis, and characterization of materials with nanometer dimensions. One of five such Nanoscale Science Research Centers recently established by the U.S. Department of Energy, its charter is to pursue two primary missions: a) conduct outstanding research across the breadth of nanoscience; and b) collaborate with scientists from around the world who visit to use its state-of-the-art instruments, techniques, and expertise to further their own nanoscience research efforts.<span id="more-707"></span></p>
<p><strong>Main Jobs Description</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Conduct research in the area of design, synthesis and characterization of new materials for future generation photoresists (primarily 193nm and EUV)</li>
<li>Investigate photochemistry of new materials including new product identification and detailed mechanistic pathway characterization</li>
<li>Help demonstrate lithographic performance of materials including design, synthesis, proof-of-concept experiments, lithographic evaluation, optimization and scale-up</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Eligibility</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Ph.D. degree in synthetic chemistry or relevant discipline, earned within the last two years</li>
<li>Expertise in organic, materials, inorganic and/or polymer chemistry</li>
<li>In-depth understanding of complex photochemical processes which occur during lithography</li>
<li>Expert understanding of chemical reactivity and synthesis</li>
<li>Experience in photochemistry, photo- and/or e-beam lithography, polymer synthesis and characterization is advantageous, but not required.</li>

Each year Argonne offers these special postdoctoral fellowships to be awarded internationally on an annual basis to outstanding doctoral scientists and engineers who are at early points in promising careers. The fellowships are named after scientific and technical luminaries who have been associated with the laboratory, its predecessors and the University of Chicago since the 1940s.</p>
<p>Fellowship recipients will be assigned according to his or her scientific or technical discipline.</p>
<p><strong>2009 Argonne Named Fellowships</strong><br />
Candidates for the Argonne National Laboratory Named Fellowships must display superb ability in scientific or engineering research and must show definite promise of becoming outstanding leaders in the research they pursue.<span id="more-706"></span></p>
<p>Fellowships are awarded for a one-year term, with possible renewal up to three years. The 2009 Fellowship carries a stipend of $72,000 minimum per annum with an additional allocation of up to $20,000 per year for research support and travel. The Fellows, who will be competitively selected by a special fellowship committee, are given the freedom of associating with Argonne scientists in a research area of common interest.</p>
<p><strong>How to apply</strong><br />
Your application requires the following documents:</p>

<li>Research proposal (? 2 pages)</li>
<li>Three letters of recommendation from other than Argonne staff</li>
<li>CV</li>
<li>List of publications, abstracts and significant presentations</li>
<li>Graduate School and Undergraduate Transcripts</li>
</ul>
<p>The sponsor could be someone who is already familiar with your research work and accomplishments through previous collaborations or professional societies. If you have not yet identified an ANL sponsor, visit the detailed websites of the various <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.anl.gov/Science_and_Technology/programs.html" target="_blank">Research Programs</a>, <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.anl.gov/Science_and_Technology/divisions.html" target="_blank">Research Divisions</a>, and <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.dep.anl.gov/postdocs/ANLprojectdescriptions.htm" target="_blank">Project Descriptions</a>.</p>
