Situation Analysis : is the examination of the education context in the country : the policies, programmes and practices.

How was the situation analysis conducted (for whole country and SchoolNet Project) not necessarily just ICT
How did the sitiuation analysis inform the following aspects of the UNESCO SchoolNet Project at a (your) National/Country level.
- choice of pilot schools
- teacher training
- infrastructure and hardware
- teaching and learning resources
- curriculum
What are the challenges of carrying out situation analysis? ... and how were some of these challenges addressed?

It would be appreciated if at least one person from each country would comment on these items here.

item 5 : Recommendations for Future Projects

What are your views on the future?
Do you already have plans to continue with the Learning Circles collaborative project in your school or country? (scaleability?)
Do you have any specific recommendations for future projects that you would like to see happen or hope are supported by UNESCO?
Some views already received last December and in the questionnaires include ...

nearly every school has already said they will continue with Learning Circles
not many suggestions have come in regarding practical proposals for continuation other than the schools do it themselves.
not many suggestions have come in recommending how UNESCO or individual National Education Departs might assist with sustainability ... hopefully these will come up more during the 3 day June wrokshop .... and in your comments posted here

item 4 : Strengths and Weaknesses of the SchoolNET Project

What are your views on the :
strengths, weaknesses, opportunities/successes and obstacles in implementing the schoolnet project, and comparison of these issues in relation to other similar projects in the region ....
Some views already received last December and in the questionnaires include ...

in December many participants highlighted the problems with timing when planning for all countries to do the Learning Circles project at the same time .... different term times and holidays became a barrier to completion of projects in the time frame
there were some techical problems with hardware, software and connectivity
the CD of materials was well received but has not been used by all teachers
the rubric for evaluating the final Powerpoints/Webpages was not uses at all
"collaboration" is seen as the big strength in this project and Learning Circles was a good framework

What are your views on the ...
assessment of how many teachers have been trained and whether they have shared their knowledge gained from the workshops to other teachers in the pilot schools or other schools in their countries (also through the use of peer coaching)
Some views already received last December and in the questionnaires include ...

the questionnaires seem to indicate that some schools were more successful than others at running courses in the school to pass on 'SchoolNet' skills to others
some participants have suggested that more teacher training should have been done by UNESCO centrally

effectiveness of the learning circles approach, especially its effectiveness within the Asia-Pacific cultural context?
Please remember that Gerald already highlighted some of the problems in the pilot of Learning Circles when we all met in December in Chiangmai ... these were ...

insufficient initial training
lack of a common language of communication
written materials (in English) too wordy
regional contrasts marginalised some schools
unreliable telecommunications networks
insufficient country level support for participating teachers
learning circle coordination was managed too remotely
teachers' email culture was not well established

What are your views on the:
level of technology integration in each of your pilot schools, pedagogical strategies used by the teachers, changes in the knowledge and skills of the teachers and students and level of collaboration among the students and teachers as a result of the project?
Some views already received last December and in the questionnaires include ...

nearly all teachers and students have said they learnt new skills
most enjoyed the 'collaborative' aspect of the project especially internationally
many teachers expressed an interest in receiving more ICT skills training
there was a general feeling that more ICT equipment was needed in schools
many schools would welcome more reliable internet connections.
