FutureRuby and the Charity Tutorial

FutureRuby have paid for a charity tutorial coffee break, which is very kind. Here’s a quick word from them:

FutureRuby isn’t a ruby conference, but a conference for Rubyists. This is a call to order – a congress of the curious characters that drew us to this community in the first place.
The fringe of today is the mainstream of tomorrow.

Talking of the charity tutorial, there’s less than a week left. There are still a few places left, and all we ask is a £75 donation here. £75 is a lot less than you’d normally pay for a day’s training from Pragmatic Studio Instructors. I’m just saying.

Charity tutorial news

A big thanks goes to Ron Jeffries for donating $500 (USD) towards the charity tutorial room hire; this is huge help.

We have now booked the main conference hall for the tutorial on Thursday March 26, and now have space for around 20 more people. This is a great chance to learn Ruby from two of the top names in the community – Rails-core alumnus and Pragmatic Studio instructor Marcel Molina Jnr, and Pragmatic studio Rails and Ruby instructor Chad Fowler. In return we suggest a £75 (minimum) donation to the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland here.

Charity tutorial Sponsorship

Scotland on Rails is proud to support the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland through the pre-conference Charity Tutorial. We are also grateful to receive the help of Chad Fowler and Marcel Molina for donating their considerable talents to teach the tutorial. All tutorial donations go directly to CHAS (except for Paypal and Justgiving fees) – the room hire costs are met entirely out of the conference budget.

Everything is bigger this year and, like the conference, the charity tutorial is proving very popular. We are seeking an extra £400 to help cover the costs of moving to a larger room. In return for your help we can offer some good publicity – such as mentions in the programme, tutorial page, and during the vent – as well as the warm feeling of supporting such a good cause. Well.

In 2008 it took us four months to sell nearly 100 tickets.
