For many folks this "upgrade" left an ugly gap of grey emptiness at the top of their Facebook pages.

Does this sound like your page? 

Here are 4 easy examples of how I upgraded my Facebook pages for $5 or less!

I'm not a designer, but I do have plenty of photos and logos, plus the art from my book covers.  So I did not want to pay top dollar for a professional graphics expert to create new timeline covers for my Facebook pages. 

So here's what I did for 4 of my pages. 

Hopefully these inexpensive design tactics are helpful to you, too:

• Version 1:  I visited Fiverr.com to find designers willing to help for only $5.  There are plenty of them!  I put together a file containing the several photos you see here and submitted it with my $5.  A little back and forth and a few days later I had my first new Facebook page header banner that you can see here: http://www.facebook.com/scottfox.
• Version 2:   The Click Millionaires page on Facebook covers similar topics, so I wanted to try a different Fiverr artist to see what s/he would come up with.  You can see those results here:  http://www.facebook.com/clickmillionaires.  In this case I wanted less focus on me and more focus on our friendly community of Internet lifestyle business entrepreneurs, so I cut the photos of me and used a group shot of ClickMillionaires.com members for the profile pic.
• Version 3:  For my "fan page" on Facebook I decided to focus just on my books.  The other big difference here is that I bought a stock photo from iStockPhoto.com to use as a background.  (The photo cost $8.35 but I used it again below, so still pretty cheap.)  Result:  http://www.facebook.com/clickmillionaire
• Photo Only (free!):  By this time I was pretty tired of working on Facebook covers, so for my last active Facebook page, I just re-used the stock photo from above, plus another stock photo for the profile picture.  You can see the result for my Lifestyle Business Facebook page here:  http://www.facebook.com/lifestylebusiness   If you have nice photos of your own, you can start with this approach and make your new Facebook timeline cover graphics look great basically for free!

Important Point:  The dimensions for Facebook covers are 851x315 pixels – if you're going to use your own photo, be sure it's high resolution enough to look good that wide.

Overall I had a good experience with the Fiverr artists whose work you see above.  These new timeline covers are far from perfect but they were cheap and quick. 

I also have to tell you that there were 2 other attempts by other "artists" I found through Fiverr that I did not use.  Still, a 60% success rate at only $5.00 each seems like a pretty good success rate to me.

p.s.  I was going to post the names of the Fiverr artists who did this work for me, but they come and go too quickly to be reliable.  My advice?  Visit Fiverr and use the search box to locate providers offering exactly what you want who also have high ratings from previous customers.
