Scottsdale police Officer Dave Pubins tells Scottsdale Arizona News that the fire started on the patio of the 3,100 sq. ft. home, then spread to the attic. The fire was contained in 45 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The cause and damage estimates are yet to be determined

Woman Drives Car Into Salon

Scottsdale Fire Department, Scottsdale PD and PMT Ambulance responded Friday afternoon to a single car accident into a building at 8912 E. Pinnacle Peak Road in Scottsdale, AZ. The accident was reported around 2:27 p.m. MST.

Responding units included: E610, E613, P-608, P-610, P-615, L611, L615, BC602. BC602 is command. Three ambulances were dispatched.

Scottsdale Police tell Scottsdale Arizona News that a Mercedes sedan accelerated from a parking space into a salon in the La Mirada At Pinnacle Peak shopping center. The car was occupied by a lone female driver. The salon was occupied by about 30 employees and customers at the time.

Police say one employee was pinned between a car and a wall and is considered to have serious injury and was transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn hospital. Two other patients were transported with less serious injuries.

Police don't yet know the cause of the crash.

Registration Deadline Nears To Vote In City’s Special Election

Voters must register by Monday, February 13, 2012, to cast ballots in Scottsdale’s March 13 Special Election.

Scottsdale voters will consider a General Plan update, a franchise agreement and seven City Charter amendments in the election.

The General Plan update guides development and growth in the city for the next 10 to 20 years. Cities and towns are typically required to update their plans every 10 years.
The franchise agreement, if approved by voters, would allow Southwest Gas to continue using the City's rights of way for pipelines and equipment.
Seven charter amendments are carryovers from 2010 and did not make it on the 2010 ballot. The amendments would seek to change or clarify the charter, which is the document that defines the City's roles and powers.

Those wishing to register to vote in the election can contact the Maricopa County Elections Office at (602) 506-1511.

Emergency crews are responding to 3400 E Sky Harbor Blvd [map] at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport for a 3A HAZ Drill (2012 Triennial Exercise). According to Customer Service Manager, Alisa Nakashima-Smith, the federal government requires airports to conduct a full-scale emergency exercise once every three years. Participants include: Phoenix Aviation Department, Phoenix Fire, Phoenix Police, US Airways and other agencies.
