Eli Roth’s ‘The Green Inferno’ Plot Details Revealed

Earlier this month, Eli Roth announced that he would be returning as feature film director with The Green Inferno. Details were vague, but some speculated that his Inferno would somehow be connected to Ruggero Deodato‘s notorious 1980 Cannibal Holocaust. Those who called it, pat yourselves on the back. The plot details have finally been revealed and it looks like we’re in for some jungle cannibal chaos.

According to Variety, Roth’s Inferno will be about “an idealistic student and a group of naive do-gooders who are captured by cannibalistic Indios after their plane crash lands in the Peruvian jungle.”

Though it’s not official, it seems like The Green Inferno is connected to Cannibal Holocaust, as the former will also be, well, a cannibal story.

It’ll be interesting to see what Roth does with a cannibalistic movie. It’s been a while since Roth was behind-the-camera of a feature film movie. Let’s hope he’s still able to give something jaw dropping. There definitely needs to be a lot of blood, guts and gross-out visuals.

Production is set to start this fall in Peru and Chile. There’s no official release date for The Green Inferno yet, but from the look of things, it’ll probably be sometime in 2013. Roth co-wrote the script with Aftershock co-writer Guillermo Amoedo.

All Four ‘Iron Man 3′ Villains Leak

While Marvel continues to issue denial after denial (much as they denied that Loki would be the villain in The Avengers), the film studio continues to deny that a certain arch-villain will be appearing in Iron Man 3. However, the Latino Review (which was among the first to announce that Loki was indeed the Avengers villain), has now announced that they know the four major villains who will appear in the third Iron Man film.

First off, four seems a little villain-heavy, does it not? The last time the third film in a superhero series tried its hand at multi-villainy, we got Spider-Man 3.

That said, and while Marvel continues to deny this, Latino Review has it that Sir Ben Kingsley is indeed playing Iron Man’s arch-nemesis, The Mandarin: “The Mandarin is played by Ben Kingsley and [is] a villain in the movie despite Marvel’s continued insistence that he’s not.”

Moreover, LR asserts that Mandarin isn’t even the primary bad guy in the film—Guy Pearce, who was cast in April, will be the Big Bad, in the role of Aldrich Killian, who will be “backed by the Mandarin, but is the real architect of the nanotech ‘Extremis army’ that will likely include Coldblood (James Badge Dale) and Firepower (Ashley Hamilton).

All we can do now is wait for the May 3, 2013 release date to be sure (or we could speculate endlessly on the internet, which is way more likely).

‘Only God Forgives’ Stylish Shots Feature Ryan Gosling on the Set

Though Drive didn’t cross over into the mainstream as may have been hoped, it did inspire numerous hipsters to buy scorpion jackets, won director Nicholas Winding Refn the best director prize at Cannes, made Ryan Gosling look cool, and earned Albert Brooks a place in the bad guy hall of fame. Refn and Gosling teamed up again for Only God Forgives and we’ve got some behind-the-scenes photos to share…

This is likely due out by the end of the year stateside, but it recently previewed some footage at Cannes. Footage presentations are somewhat unfair to review as they’re obviously picking a good moment or two to sell the film, but – for us – this is pre-sold. Here’s the synopsis:

Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed, their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.

And if you weren’t sold before, how does it sound now? It looks like the neo-noir of Drive got both Gosling and Refn fired up, and they’re going back for more. This has all the trappings of the great film noir pictures, as it mixes fate and family, and – what looks to be – inevitable failures. And after the stylish violence of Drive, we know that these guys can deliver the action.

Cougar Town: Season 3 Episode 14/15: My Life/Your World—TV Review

Tuesday’s season finale of Cougar Town ended the show’s ABC run, and it went out with a bang! In “My Life” the gang took another turn at movie parody, this time with Groundhog Day. While “Your World” centered on Jules and Grayson’s long-awaited wedding. Plenty of surprises were in store including a guest appearance by David Arquette.

“My Life”- Grayson complains that his life is like the movie Groundhog Day. So to get a better understanding of the film, Jules asks Laurie and Ellie to throw her a Groundhog Day themed bachelorette party.

“Your World”- Jules and Grayson run away to Napa Valley to elope—with the entire cul-de-sac crew in tow.

The Good:

Key Necklaces: In the real world, people don’t generally float in and out of your house at any given moment. The key necklaces give a little believability to something that requires none. The fact that it brought out Grayson’s inner Hulk was just the icing on the cake.
Are They Robots?: Everyone knows someone like Jules; no matter how many times they see a movie, they never quite get it. Nothing stops these people from asking the most inane questions. The Groundhog Day bachelorette party, in which Ellie and Laurie attempt to explain the film to Jules, made something funny that’s usually excruciating.
Hoestradamus: Everyone should be saying this all the time. Please start now.
Pull the Pin: Was it right for Grayson to drop the maid-of-honor truth bombshell on Laurie? Probably not, but Jules is never able to learn a lesson until a point is properly driven home. His mime of ripping the grenade off Ellie’s belt, pulling the pin, and watching it explode was more satisfying than it should have been.
Wedding Date Birthday Blowout: We know, we know, Laurie and Travis again. But this time, right as they’re going to kiss, Wade pops up just in time to ruin everything to surprise Laurie. As annoying as it may be to go through this continuous back and forth, real relationships start off in just this manner. Every one of them needs a big embarrassing declaration—like Travis drunkenly confessing his love for Laurie in the nude in front of the entire cul-de-sac crew—to get the ball rolling. Maybe season four?
The Concierge: David Arquette’s turn as the overly helpful concierge was delightful, albeit brief. Him and Ellie’s flirtation felt like something that could continue into next season.
Beach Nuptial: They spent most of the hour compromising on some of the tougher issues in their relationship, like his need for privacy and her need to be around people constantly. Still, Jules and Grayson had the spontaneous beach wedding of their dreams, with all the important people in attendance, including the show’s co-creator and episode writer Bill Lawrence. The moving ceremony—literally and figuratively—was filmed at a time when Cougar Town’s future was questionable at best. It would have been a fitting end to the series. Luckily, that’s not the case.

Overall:

Cougar Town is the best at taking warm and fuzzy feelings and making them come off genuine, where in other shows they might seem corny. The special hour-long episode wrapped up a few key story lines while leaving room to grow for others. The show’s ready to move to TBS, and hopefully you are too!

Rating: 10/10

Cougar Town will return next season on TBS.

Snow White has never been known as a badass. She’s a delicate flower who relies on a man to save her life. She’s the quintessence of a damsel in distress. But that might all change this Friday. Kristen Stewart‘s Snow White could join the ranks of badass female movie characters. Heck, she might even break into the top 10. So, to honor the release of Snow White and the Huntsman, we’ve come up with a list of the Top 10 Badass Female Movie Characters. Check it out.

This was a very hard list to make. Before we get started, let’s note that there are tons of badass ladies in movies out there. But in order to be on this list, the heroine must fulfill a few prerequisites. First, the heroine must be fearless. She has to be able to go up against anyone or anything with true grit. Also, our heroine had to be portrayed by an actress who made the performance memorable. Lastly, we want a heroine with a good back story. We want layers and complexity. She ain’t gotta be perfect because honestly, perfect is boring. Got it? Alright, let’s get on with it.

Here’s out list of the Top 10 Badass Female Movie Characters.

10. Hit-Girl – Kick-Ass

Hit-Girl was raised to be fearless. She’s an 11-year-old killing machine who swears like sailor and takes bullets like champ. Kick-Ass may be star of the movie, but she definitely steals the show.

Memorable Badass Moment: Hit-Girl singlehandedly attacks a room full of grown gunmen, dodging every bullet and sparing no man’s life.

9. Shosanna Dreyfus – Inglorious Basterds

Shosanna Dreyfus is the archetypal badass heroine. As a teenager, she witnessed the gruesome murder of her entire family. Being the sole survivor of the massacre, she vowed to avenge her family. None of us expected her to go as far as she did, but it was her bold behavior that led to the killing of Hitler and tons of other powerful Nazis… in Quentin Tarantino‘s fictional universe, of course.

Memorable Badass Moment: Shosanna’s previously recorded speech plays for an audience of Nazis (Hitler included). Her laughter is heard over a sea of crying and burning Nazis.

8. Clarice Starling – The Silence of the Lambs

As an FBI cadet, Clarice Starling is given the task of interviewing the brilliant serial killer Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), who wouldn’t mind having her brain for dinner. Clarice may not look like your typical badass, but she’s got the bravery of a thousand lions. In the end, she’s the one who captures and kills Buffalo Bill.

7. Jackie Brown – Jackie Brown

Jackie Brown may not be a deadly assassin or a brilliant computer hacker, but she can still hold her own. Jackie’s not out for revenge like most badass female movie characters. She’s a struggling 40-year-old flight attendant working towards a better life. Her wits and cool get her what she wants.

Katniss Everdeen will go down as one of the most heroic and badass female characters in film history. She’s not out for blood or revenge. She’s fighting for her life. She’s got no superpowers, only a bow and arrow. She selflessly volunteers to represent her district at the Hunger Games to save her little sister’s life, and her bravery and selflessness are admirable.

5. Hermione Granger – Harry Potter series

Behind every great man, there’s a great woman. For Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), that woman was Hermione Granger. Without her, he would have died way back when the troll invaded Hogwarts in Sorcerer’s Stone. Hermione isn’t an action hero. She’s a geek at heart, but her actions throughout the Harry Potter films are truly heroic and badass.

4. Lisbeth Salander – The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

It doesn’t matter which version you prefer, both Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara are captivating as Lisbeth Salander. Lisbeth is a brilliant cyber-hacker with a photographic memory. Not exactly superpowers, but close. She’s a complex character with an awful past. Some of her methods may be a bit intense, but all of her actions attest to why she’s so high on this list. She’s fearless and we like that.

Memorable Badass Moment: Tattooing ‘I Am A Rapist Pig’ across a man’s belly.

3. Sarah Connor – Terminator series

Sarah Connor goes from damsel in distress to total badass/crazy person. Even by the end of The Terminator, Sarah shows signs of a true warrior when she destroys the cyborg. By Terminator 2, Sarah’s as tough as nails. She may have been locked away in a mental asylum, but that didn’t stop her from prepping for the future.

Memorable Badass Moment: Breaking out of that high security insane asylum was pretty badass.

2. Beatrix Kiddo – Kill Bill

Like Shoshanna, Beatrix Kiddo’s story is tragic and bloody. Her former co-workers and lover gave her a bloody beating, leaving her for dead. When she rises from her four-year coma, she seeks out those who betrayed her. Beatrix is a ruthless warrior, skilled in martial arts. Through her journey, she defeats an army of (nearly) 88 crazy men, gets shot in the chest with rock salt, gets buried alive and still manages to kill nearly everyone on her “Death List Five.”

Memorable Badass Moment: Fighting against all the Crazy 88 gang (though there weren’t really 88 of them) and coming out the victor.

Are you surprised? Of course not. Ellen Ripley is the beginning and the end. She’s the ultimate badass female movie character. This role was originally written for a dude, but could you imagine a world with no Ripley? After being the sole survivor of a an alien aboard her ship, Ripley survives numerous attacks, destroys the alien queen, and leads a colonial military into hostile territory. She may have died on her own terms, but even that wasn’t enough to stop her from coming back. She’s queen of the badasses.

Odair Of ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Could Be Played By Hedlund, Hammer or Kitsch

After the continued success of The Hunger Games (still no.9 at the Box Office this week) who’s ready for some fresh blood? That’s right, there will be a whole slew of new of tributes for the sequel, Catching Fire. With I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence replacing original director Gary Ross, we can look forward to plenty of new faces heading into the arena.

One such new character will be Finnick Odair, all set to compete in the next Hunger Games, with reports that Taylor Kitsch (John Carter), Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy) and Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger) have been shortlisted for the role.

The new tributes won’t be just kids, but also full-grown adults, all of whom have experienced the tournament before – meaning they’re all fighters. Finnick Odair, winner of the 65th Annual Hunger Games at age 14, is now in his mid-20s and backs.

Hedlund, Hammer and Kitsch have all been shortlisted for the role of Odair, and to be honest, any one of them could easily play the role. Their names come after a wild rumor this weekend that Robert Pattinson was up for the role, but it turned out to be completely false – Phew.

Anyway, Catching Fire seems really set to kick things up a notch or two, and turn the heat right up on Katniss and co. And don’t you think it’s a little unfair to be sending these poor survivors back into the arena as punishment? Oh well, should make for entertaining viewing, at least. Apparently, the ending’s also a shocker.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will begin shooting this fall (with an eye for a November 22, 2013 release), and the new cast members will be announced within the next few months as Lionsgate hurries to shoot the sequel before Jennifer Lawrence starts shooting X-Men: First Class 2 early in 2013.

‘Les Misérables’ Teaser Trailer

Featuring direction from Academy Award-winner Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech), starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Samantha Barks, Eddie Redmayne, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sacha Baron Cohen, and based upon one of the most beloved novels and stage musicals of all, the upcoming film version of Les Misérables looked pretty good on paper. Then the teaser trailer was released today, and, well, it looks almost perfect.

Basically a series of random images backed with Anne Hathaway’s solid take on the song “I Dreamed a Dream” (hey, it is just a teaser, after all), the preview clip definitely hints at a film of absolutely epic scale; that said, musicals can be both hard to pull off and an even harder sell to a general public, and it remains to be seen if this teaser trailer or the film in general will have any traction with the average filmgoer.

But featuring as it does an all-star cast, a director whose last film scored four Oscars (including Best Picture), and an absolutely treasured source material, it’s likely that Les Misérables will be a relative hit when it’s released this winter on December 14^th. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

New ‘Prometheus’ Featurette Focuses On The Ship, Features All-New Footage

With a week and a half left before the film’s U.S. premiere, Prometheus just can’t help but release yet another featurette on the film, this time concerning the titular spacecraft that gives the movie its name. Featuring about a minute of all-new (and, admittedly, pretty cool) footage, the featurette tells us a lot about the ship and the technology of the fictional year 2089. Check it out below.

As /Film points out, the only thing the featurette doesn’t answer is this: how is it possible that the technology of 2089 is massively more advanced than the technology of 2122? If you’ll recall the original Alien (to which Prometheus is a prequel) takes places 33 years after the events in Prometheus, and yet it features a far more antiquated technology. In Prometheus, digital touch screens abound; in Alien, they had a room-sized computer that could provide text-only answers to simple questions. It appears as if some heavy ret-conning will take place.

That fairly significant quibble aside, Prometheus (the film and the ship), is still on our most-anticipated list of 2012, and we’ll be first in line to geek out when the film premieres on June 8. Until then, we have about 142 other Prometheus featurettes to sift through.

‘Hatfields And McCoys’ Has Set New Basic Cable Ratings Records

Monday night’s Memorial Day premiere of part one of the History Channel’s Hatfields and McCoys miniseries broke and reset basic-cable ratings, thanks in part to an American audience that apparently was clamoring to see a multi-hour series about a violent feud between two West Virginia families in the 1800s. Go figure.

That’s right—the premiere installment of the three-part Hatfields and McCoys scored 13.9 million viewers on Monday night, which is the largest-ever number earned by a basic-cable program that was not sports-related (unless you count post-Civil War hillbillies killing each other a sport, as the AV Club notes).

After announcing their big win, the History Channel stated a plan to “own historical drama,” and begin producing more miniseries’ set during prominent times in American history, and least until they can convince Ken Burns to start making documentaries for them and not those jerks over at PBS.

The second and third installments of Hatfields and McCoys will air on at 9 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday night, respectively. Directed by Kevin Reynolds (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Waterworld) with a screenplay from Ted Mann (NYPD Blue, Deadwood), Hatfields and McCoys stars Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton, Tom Berenger, Jena Malone, and Powers Boothe.

First Photos of Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix in ‘All Is By My Side’

The first photos of Andre 3000 as golden god Jimi Hendrix have hit the internet. The musician was photographed yesterday in Dublin, Ireland while filming for the Hendrix biopic All Is By My Side. The photos show Andre rocking the signature Hendrix afro and dressed in 60s flamboyant clothing. Check them out below.

ComingSoon has posted the first photos from All Is By My Side, which features Andre 3000 as the music legend as well as Captain America star Hayley Atwell as Linda Keith, the woman who discovered Hendrix.

Although Andre tried to avoid the cameras, we are still able to get a good look at what he will look like as Hendrix. The resemblance is uncanny. See for yourself, below:

The unofficial biopic will focus on Hendrix’s time in London when he was preparing to record his debut album Are You Experienced?

Despite Andre’s striking resemblance to the legend, the producers of All Is By My Side have ran into some problems with Hendrix’s estate. It seems that Experience Hendrix, LLC, the company run by Hendrix’s family, is reluctant to give consent to allow his music to be used in the film.

Back in 2000, Showtime’s Hendrix only used covers of his songs instead of the real thing. It would be great for the company to reconsider and allow the producers to use original music. This is, after all, a bigger project, with a much bigger star. This movie could also be good for business. It could boost album sales as well as remind the younger generation of Hendrix’s musical talents.

HBO Releases ‘Game Of Thrones’ New Character List For Season Three

Well, Game of Thrones fans, even as your beloved series winds to a close of Season Two with only two episodes left (check out our review of last Sunday’s ep), there are things on the horizon to keep you going. Specifically, HBO has released a list of the new characters who will be populating the third season of the popular adaptation of the A Song of Fire and Ice novels by George R.R. Martin. The third season is said to be primarily based around the novel A Storm of Swords, and HBO has just released the 11 new names (with character bios) that will be populating Season Three.

And, as if it wasn’t clear already—SPOILERS AHEAD!

Drumroll…

According to Coming Soon, your new characters are: Mance Rayder, Daario Naharis, Edmure Tully, Ser Brynden Tully (The Blackfish), Lady Selyse Florent, Shireen, Olenna Redwyne (The Queen of Thorns), Beric Dondarrion, Thoros of Myr and Jojen and Meera Reed (full character bios below).

And just in case that wasn’t enough news, Entertainment Weekly also points out that just because certain characters are not listed, that does not mean they won’t still be added to the Season Three roster. Here’s hoping you’ll be able to make it until then, in 2013, when Game of Thrones Season Three is set to broadcast on HBO.

– Mance Rayder: We’ve heard about him all season. A former member of the Night’s Watch who became the “King Beyond the Wall,” the leader of the Wildlings.

– Daario Naharis: A confident and seductive warrior.

– Jojen Reed; Meera Reed: A teenage brother and sister duo with special insights.

Simon Pegg Says No Khan in ‘Star Trek 2′

When Star Trek 2 was casting its villain, it was unknown who the big baddie would be. Sure, there are the Klingons, the Romulans and more to play with. But as for human villains, the only name that means anything to mainstream audiences is Khan Noonien Singh, villain of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. However, Simon Pegg says that Benedict Cumberbatch – who’s playing the big villain in the new film – is not Khan.

He recently talked to the Telegraph, and said this: “Obviously I can’t talk about it. It’s not Khan, that’s a myth. Everyone’s saying it is, but it’s not.”

We want to believe Pegg, and it’s likely that director J.J. Abrams, and his staff of writers had their ears to ground and heard the internet groans that came from taking a character that wouldn’t make much sense in their newly conceived Trek universe. But it was only fair to guess they were chasing Khan when the part was going to Benicio Del Toro and Edgar Ramirez. And perhaps they were.

We won’t know for sure until a year from now – May 17, 2013 to be exact – when the franchise returns to screens, and it’s possible that even the teasers and trailers will keep Cumberbatch’s identity on the down low. Such is the Abrams way.
