Blankets, one of those essential products! From cuddlewraps to receivers & muslin blankets, there are such fabulous ones to choose from. From pastel colours to some brighter designs, ones designed locally & some imported, the baby blankets we sell are both practical &beautiful.

The Baby Sense cuddlewrap is possibly the most wonderful product for your newborn! Made from 100% cotton, the shape of this blankie is perfect for a cozy fit – your baby’s arms can be tightly wrapped near to their body and face. Your new baby will be as snug as those last days in the womb.

The Baby Sense Receiving blanket is such a beautiful product. Also made from 100% cotton, this blanket is so soft to the touch and it seems to have so many uses….Use it as a feeding shawl if you don’t have one, keep it in your nappy bag in case it gets chilly when you are out and about or use it as a pram or car seat cover to block out the sun or other elements. Such a great baby shower gift!

The Baby Sense slumber sac is also a great part of their collection. They have a summer & winter one to choose from. So often your baby will kick off their blankets during the night and wake up cold as a result. You want to avoid your little one from overheating or being too cold. These sleeping bags can be used by your baby from 5 months up to 18 months – so you get to use the product for a longer period of time – great value for money.

Muslin blankets also seem to be a hit! The JJ Cole range is stunning – 100% cotton, fun designs, lightweight and breathable!

JJ Cole also makes really gorgeous receivers & cuddlewraps. Their fabrics are colourful, soft and also 100% cotton. You can either use the receiver to also loosely swaddle your baby or use it to cover them while in their pram or cot. A reputable international brand, you will not be disappointed with these products.

These are fantastic & ‘must have’ items on your baby shower registry. They also make such a lovely gift for a newborn.

If you would like to have a look at our blankets, you can click here.

Hope you’re all having a wonderful Thursday! The weekend is around the corner…..

If you’re a first-time mom, I’m sure the idea of filling the cot with the necessary items leaves you feeling over-whelmed. Cot linen forms the basis for the theme/design of your baby’s nursery, so I’m going to give you some easy guidelines as to what cot linen you need and what items are optional.

Start off with a mattress to fit your cot (these are available from Special Delivery & other outlets) Go for a Breath-EZ one as it’s specially developed for babies needs.

Then I always suggest 2 fitted cot sheets. These are elasticated all around so will fit snugly over the mattress.

The SF cot duvets are made slightly bigger than normal to allow for long-term use as baby gets bigger. We have a plethora of different fabrics we can combine to make a set to suit you. We also supply the duvet inners. I always suggest 2 covers – one in the wash while one’s on.

Then a cot bumper is a must. This protects baby’s head from knocking against the side of the cot. Ours have fabric slipcovers (easily removable for washing) made up in your choice of fabric and ties that attach it to the sides of the cot. I always recommend 2 covers to be made up – one in the wash while one’s on.

These are the basic necessities. Then I’ll give you some optional extras that are nice but by no means vital!

A cot pillow is optional. This just elevates baby’s head slightly (I only recommend using this from 3 months upwards). It also comes in your choice of fabric made up in a slipcover manner.

We also make up beautiful cot quilts in your choice of fabrics. This can be used instead of a cot duvet. We can also make these up with a different fabric on the front and the back for double the impact.

Scatter cushion – either with a patchwork of fabrics of your choice or a name scatter. You can click on the below link to view them on the Special Delivery website.

If you would like to view the list of fabrics you can choose from for any of the above items, or you would like some more information, please email specialdelivery@telkomsa.net or you can visit their website.

Have a beautiful afternoon!

Some bath units are more suitable for newborns and young babies while others are for when your little one is sitting. Bath time needs to be a fun bonding time for you and your baby, and bathing with them every once in a while is the best. For the times when you aren’t in the bath with them, they need to be in a comfy bath seat or bath unit.

The Chelino Prima Rossi bath unit is hugely popular. There are baths on stands out there which don’t have a drainage pipe and plug, so carrying around the bath to empty it is a huge mission. This particular unit does have a drainage pipe and plug, and it can be moved around, so it makes using it that much easier. If you get to a point where you no longer want to use the bath seat part, you can continue to use the top of the unit as a changing station. There are several areas to store toiletries and changing accessories. Put in in your bathroom, and have all the baby products contained to one space.

The baby bather has been around for years and it never seems to disappoint parents out there. It is a soft, toweling, comfortable seat for your little one. There is nothing covering your baby, which makes for easier washing.

The delux baby bather has an adjustable back rest so to give more support to your newborn. The cover can be machine washed and it is non-slip. It can also be compactly folded.

The above 2 bath seats are ideal to have if you travel a lot and you want to take your own bath seat with you wherever you go.

The Babygo bath seat is ideal for when your baby is sitting well. It comes with a bath mat (with a built in thermometer) and it has a shaped back support and T-bar which offer great support and the open sides enable you to easily wash your baby. Once you no longer need to use the seat part, you can remove it and simply continue to use the bath mat.

The snug tub is such a fun bath seat. It can be used even when your little one is a toddler. It offers a padded and secure space for them to play and bath. It also has a contoured head rest which makes washing their hair much easier. This bath seat is also ideal for travelling!

We hope you have got some valuable info in this article. Please contact us if you have any questions. If you would like to view these bath units/seats on our website, you can click here.

We hope you are having a great week so far!

If this is your first baby, I can also remember how daunted I felt by those nappy changing sessions. It’s very important to start with a good basic changing mat or compactum cushion.

Our compactum cushions are shaped foam with slightly elevated sides (so that baby can’t roll off) which is covered in a waterproof plastic to protect the foam from germs caused by accidents. Then we make up covers for the mats in a fabric of your choice which is easy to remove for washing. It also adds a beautiful decor feature to your nursery. You can match the fabric used on your change mat, with the fabric used to make your cot linen. All of our fabrics are machine washable they so can withstand repeated washing – without fading.

I always suggest to my moms that they buy two covers – one on while one’s in the wash. This also allows variety in terms of fabric choices.

The rest of the nappy-changing time is an art which develops through practise and trust me…you’ll have plenty of that!

If you are interested in a stunning change mat, please contact Special Delivery and they will send you the fabrics to choose from. The change mat retails for R415 incl the fabric cover. You can also click here if you would like to view it on our website.

Take care!

The wonderful thing about a having baby shower registry is that you get to choose what you would like/still need for your new baby. When you are close to your due date, you don’t want to have to spend your time at the shops returning baby shower gifts, you received, but don’t need. An online registry is even more practical as your guests can view & buy something for you, all from the comfort of their home or office. We have come to realize that there are certain items which you receive at your baby shower which are useful and others seem to remain in their packaging and gather dust. We wanted to write this article to guide you in what to add to your registry.

These days a lot of people are having baby showers which include the dads and their friends, so why not add an item specifically for the dad-to-be! We have great daddy diaper bags which they will love. No dad wants to have to carry a floral, pink bag when you are out and about. Have a look at our bags for dads.

Besides dummies and bottles, other practical and vital items to put on your registry include:

Blankets - swaddle wraps for newborns and receivers for when the baby is in their pram or cot

Clothing – remember to add also add clothing in sizes from 3 – 6 months & upwards (as well as some newborn & 0-3 month sizes) as when most of your friends and family come and visit you once your baby is born, they generally bring newborn or 0-3 month clothing…none of us can resist these! You will then end up with so many smaller items and your little one will grow out of them really quickly. Why not add some fun & funky clothing to your registry as your guest will enjoy buying the really ‘cute’ items for you!

Toys – your little one isn’t going to play with any toys for the first few months, so why not add in a few toys for when your baby is older, to your registry. Bath toys are always a hit on registries on our site as well!

Bath seats – these are practical and extremely useful. (We will talk more about these in our post on Thursday)

Nappy bag – this is an extremely popular item which you will add to your registry – one that you know you will get a lot of use out of!

Baby monitors – these are becoming one of the most popular items for our clients to add to their registry. For peace of mind when your little one is sleeping, don’t leave this off your list.

Nappy disposal bins – these are also fast becoming a top addition to baby registries.

Bath towels – from hooded towels to the bath apron, bath towels are essential to have on your registry. They are big enough to be used for a long time, not only when your baby is a newborn.

Bottle accessories - from sterilisers to formula dispensers, these are practical and popular items. There are many different brands to choose from, so find out from other people, who have had a baby, which one to go for.

Bibs & burpcloths – you will always need a few bibs. Your baby gets so much food on themselves (especially when they move on to solids) so bibs that can be wiped are the best. The toweling ones do often get stained easily. Burp cloths are essential and the Baby Sense ones are the most popular.

Breastfeeding pillows are also a big hit! They can be used to rest your baby when you are feeding them and they can act as a support for your baby when they are learning to sit.

Baby slings/carriers – these are such a great product to have. Some of them are more suitable for newborns, while others we sell can be used even when your child is a toddler. If you are out a lot, like going for walks, travel often etc, this is a wonderful product to have.

Books – the Baby Sense range of books is by far the most popular item added to our client’s registries. These books are full of so much advice, practical steps and easy to follow guidelines.

Medical items like the Munchkin medicator and the forehead thermometers are also popular on our registries.

We would love to hear from you – share with us (and all the moms and dads out there) what the most useful baby product was that you received at your baby shower and what has been one product you could have done without.

Have a happy day!

I hope you are all having a great week!

If you are fortunate enough to have space in your baba’s room why not add a comfy feeding chair? There is nothing better than having a fabulous place to rest up while feeding. Our feeding chairs have been specifically designed for comfort and spacial feeding requirements. The arms are at the right height and the seat space is large enough for a feeding cushie or pillow to rest baby on while you get the hang of the feedings.

I personally don’t advocate rocking chairs – after having a Caesar the last thing I wanted to do was feel unsteady while cradling my babies. I needed my feet firmly on the ground (in more ways than one!) And I was strongly advised by a few professionals to not get our baby into the habit of being rocked to sleep.

I have designed two styles of feeding chairs: The one style which is more sleek and modern (the blue with brown dots chair, as seen on the Special Delivery website) and it comes with sloping arms and mahogany legs. This style can be made up in your choice of upholstery fabric.

The other feeding chair is a more classical design (the pink and brown toile fabric, as seen on the Special Delivery website) – it is slightly more compact than the other style, but just as comfy and practical. It’s designed at the right seating height and has a firm, but comfortable seat that you won’t sink into when cradling your baby. This style can also be made up in your choice of fabric.

If you know that space is limited and that the chair might have to be moved out of the room to accommodate a “big” bed, at a later stage, then I suggest keeping the chair upholstery as neutral as possible so that it could easily be moved to another room later on.

With a good feeding chair in place all you have to do is master the art of feeding which I can’t give you clever advice on!

To view the feeding chairs I have described, you can click here.

Have a wonderful afternoon!

If you are bottle feeding, there are some fabulous bottle accessories out there to make it hassle free. Some are great items to have when you are out and about, while others are perfect for when you are feeding at home.

Formula dispensers: These are perfect for when you are out and you need to make up a bottle. Its best to only add the formula to the water when your baby is hungry. You don’t have to worry about how much to add, as you will dispense off required amount of formula needed for each feed into the separate divisions, before you leave the house. When you’re ready to feed, just open the spout and pour the powder into the bottle of pre-boiled cooled water as normal. We sell different brands of formula dispensers and in different price ranges. The Avent one (R110) is a handy little unit that carries 3 pre-measured portions of milk powder in separate compartments. For this particular brand, you can also remove the inner section to use as a bowl or container. The Pigeon brand is much cheaper – selling at R59.99 (for the crystal one) or R49.99 (for the plastic one) Ideal for preparation of bottles at home and away. The Munchkin brand sells for R59. It comes in a range of fun colours. The easily removable lid makes cleaning and filling easy.

Dishwasher basket (R68) A safe and sanitary way to clean accessories. Why search all over the dishwasher for your little accessories when this roomy dishwasher basket can keep them safe and secure. It has a straw cleaning rack that hold items upright for the most sanitary cleaning, and a place for all your bottle teats, valves, straws and more! It fits in all dishwashers. This is a really useful product.

Bottle pods: The JJ Cole brand is especially stylish. It sells for R104.99. When you are going out and a feed is due soon after, fill your bottle with the boiled water and insulate it! When you are ready to feed your little one, all you will have to do is add the formula and the water will still be at the right temperature.

Bottle drying rack: This is just great! For only R69.99, use this product to keep your bottles and accessories organized. Simply put it next to your washing up sink or sterilizer and let the newly washed products dry off properly. Each rack holds up to 8 bottles, caps, rings and teats.

Bottle warmers. We sell various brands of bottle warmers. The Pigeon bottle & baby food warmer sells for R399.99. It instantly heats up your baby’s bottle or food to the desired temperature without destroying the nutrients. Easy to use and fits all bottle sizes. The Snookums bottle warmer is R199.99: It also fits all wide neck and standard narrow neck bottles and all brands. It has a convenient food bowl to heat up baby’s food, and it comes with a separate hand operated orange juicer, and you can even sterilize teats and dummies by boiling them in the warmer unit. This is great value for money!

If you are pregnant for the first time, we hope this information helps you out.

Are you looking for something different to do at your baby shower, or are you arranging someone else’s shower and looking for some inspiration? Sometimes the mom-to-be doesn’t want to play any baby shower games, so we have come up with a few suggestions on how to make it a really special & memorable event.

Get everyone to bring something to make a mobile for the baby’s nursery – the items can be gender specific or unisex depending on whether the parents know the gender of the baby ahead of the birth. Suggestions for what the guests could bring would be a stuffed fabric heart, a piece of ribbon, a stuffed little toy, a baby product (like a dummy), a soft, stuffed fabric shape, a soft rattle, soft building blocks, fabric covered balls, a craft ball covered in coloured wool or embroidery threads….and the list goes on. Alternatively you can cut out circles from beautiful scrapbooking paper and get guests to write a message on each circle. You can then put them together to make a mobile

Get everyone to bring their gift with a baby picture of themselves attached to it. The mom to be has to guess who the gift is from before opening it. You will all have such a good laugh!

Each guest can bring their gift and another baby product to donate to a charity, which looks after babies.

If you have someone in the family who can sew and put a quilt together, this is a great idea. Give each guest a square of fabric (suitable for quilting and for the use of fabric pens & paints). Get each guest to decorate their square with a picture or a message for the new baby. One person can then sew the quilt together – such a great keepsake for the child.

Do an advice book: pass the book around to all the guests, at the baby shower, and have each of them write their words of advice to the mom to be. You can even have different sections in the book for different age-groups. Some mom’s might have some great advice for years down the line!

Belly cast decoration. Why not get the soon-to-be mom to have a belly cast done a few weeks before the baby shower. Then, at the baby shower, all the guests can decorate it. This will make the ultimate keepsake for the new mom.

Plant a beautiful tree or rose bush at the baby shower – the proud parents can watch the tree and the baby grow at the same time. This is a great eco-friendly idea.

Time capsule – get each guest to bring an item that is significant or popular, from around the time the baby is born. All the items are then put in a time capsule. When the child turns 18, he or she will get to open the time capsule. Suggest that the items are smallish.

Finally, when each of the guests arrives at the baby shower, give each of them an envelope and ask them to write their name and address on it. This way you will be able to post those thank you notes off to them without the hassle of finding out their addresses.

Don’t forget, we offer an online baby shower registry service on our website. If you want to find out more, click here or please get in touch with us.

If you have any great ideas on what else to do at a baby shower, we would love you to comment on this blog post.

Have a wonderful weekend!
