But let’s be honest, Republican’s are playing with house money.

Democrats are defending what is arguably their most loyal base. This seat has been a Democratic seat for 46 years. My mom was in second grade when Ted Kennedy won this seat. To put that into perspective, my mom now has a 6 year old grandson (And she looks wonderful by the way).

So why is more important that the Dems win this seat?

1. It’s Massachusetts. It’s one of the most liberal states in the country. This should be a slam dunk for Democrats.

2. It’s Teddy’s seat. With the emotional pull of keeping this seat for the “Lion of the Senate,” the polls shouldn’t even be close.

3. Obama won huge a little over a year ago and was the second coming. He’s campaigning there.

4. Bill Clinton, the most popular Democratic President in my generation has campaigned there.

5. The Republican, State Senator Scott Brown, has made it clear that he’s against ObamaCare and has also made several very conservative stands. Again, it’s Massachusetts, not Alabama, so that should make it real easy for Democrats.

Having said all of that, the polls are trending towards Brown. A defeat in Massachusetts going into mid-term elections in November could be a major momentum boost to Republicans.

A Republican victory tomorrow night would tell us some very important things.

1. What is says about Obama. Obama took McCain to the woodshed in November 2008. In Massachusetts the vote wasn’t even close. Obama had almost 1.9 million votes and beat McCain by roughly 800,000 votes. So I don’t care what the Obama folks would have you believe, this vote is completely about the direction Obama has taken this country since taking office almost a year ago.

2. What it says about Democrats. Remember, just 4 years ago, pundits and politicians across the country were declaring the GOP dead when they virtually lost everything in the 2006 mid-terms. This vote isn’t about how strong the GOP is now. Republicans haven’t rebounded. They still don’t have a leader. They don’t have the Newt Gingrich of 1994. They are still searching for their voice. In spite of all that, the Democrats still have to defend one of their most reliable bases.

3. Obama is even pulling Bill Clinton's popularity down.

Tomorrow is going to be an interesting night for Democrats. They should win this race, but polling is not trending in their favor. If this race goes to the GOP, which CNN is reporting the White House believes it will, it says much more about the Democrats than it does the Republicans.

He used steroids. As a Cardinal fan, and a Mark McGwire fan (still), all I can say is “thanks.” Thanks for finally admitting what we all knew.

Look, what McGwire did was undoubtedly wrong. He cheated, plain and simple. Was he the only one that cheated in his generation? Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock over the last few years, there is no question that he was not.

To make matters worse for Big Mac, his embarrassing testimony in front of Congress in 2005 was like watching a car wreck. It was terrible, but you couldn’t help but keep watching. But in a desperate attempt to salvage his reputation, he listened to lawyers. Ask Tiger Woods how listening to lawyers works these days.

McGwire did today what he should have done before he was even asked to testify in front of Congress. Americans are forgiving people, especially to their sports legends. Look at Kobe Bryant, Darryl Strawberry, Magic Johnson, Andy Petite, Alex Rodriguez and Chipper Jones to name a few. All have had personal failings that became public, but all have returned from those embarrassing and difficult moments to rehabilitate their reputations and regain their glory. Why? Because at some point each came clean with their indiscretions and were honest about what they had done. Their roads back weren’t always short and smooth, but the road back always started with some sort of admission of wrong doing.

To put that into perspective, look at the stars that followed McGwire’s path of silence and denials. Tiger Woods and Roger Clemens have ruined their respective reputations. Tiger, the best golfer ever, has vanished after it became known he had multiple affairs. He’s lost several sponsors and is taking an indefinite break from the game he loves. Clemens, one of the best pitchers of his generation, has become a flat out joke after denying he used steroids in the face of mounting evidence to the contrary.

Had McGwire come clean years ago, he very well could have saved his tarnished image and could even be in the Hall of Fame. But he didn’t. He chose to keep quiet, dodge and weave and it finally caught up to the slugger today. Now he has one more hurdle to climb and that time is coming in the very near future. He has to face the media.

McGwire will start as the hitting coach for the St. Louis Cardinals next month when pitchers and catchers report for spring training. Before he dons the “Birds on the Bat” and the red number 25, he has to face the media and answer the tough and embarrassing questions.

As a PR executive I would give him this advice. Sit there, as long as you have to, and admit everything. He needs to tell HIS story, the one that until today, none of us knew (as a fact). McGwire needs to tell why he did it, and tell when he did it. Describe how he hid it and why he hid it. Explain his guilt of not coming clean, and how painful it was to admit to his family, and in particular his son, that he had indeed used steroids. He needs to admit his shame and the regret he has for letting down teammates, fans, himself and most of all his family. Then, as painful as it will be, he needs to answer every question from every reporter. Sit there until they have asked every question and he’s answered every one of them.

Matter of fact, McGwire needs to do the very opposite of what he’s done the last 5 years. Be open, be honest and be contrite. He’s not going to take a bigger hit on his public image. That was ruined the day he appeared before Congress. However, McGwire CAN start putting this story to rest, but he has to come clean on all fronts and put everything on the table. Leave no stone unturned and clean out the closet.

Look, Big Mac needs to just realize that he only admitted what many of us suspected anyhow. Many fans just wanted him to admit it so they could finally move on, and frankly so he could move on too. I’m actually relieved that this is out there.

When the rubber meets the road, Mark McGwire, later in his career, was a disciplined hitter that knew the strike zone and waited on his pitch. He was patient and very seldom did he swing at a bad pitch. The steroids may have helped his power, but it didn’t help his approach to hitting which is exactly why the Cardinals hired him. McGwire has privately helped several MLB hitters behind the scenes and all of them have experienced some form of success as a result.

Mark McGwire is going to be burned at the stake today. Those in the media that scalded him for not being open and honest about his “alleged” steroid use yesterday, are going to be the ones that are scalding him for being open and honest about his steroid use today.

When the sun comes up tomorrow, Mark McGwire begins the long road to repairing his reputation. The best way for that to be done is to continue to lay all of his cards on the table. The first and hardest step was completed today, and frankly, I’m glad it’s out. I’m thrilled that McGwire is coming back to baseball. I’m also happy that he’s had this burden lifted. Welcome back Big Mac, now let’s play ball.

Frankly, it's scary.

Let's put this in perspective, the members of the NATIONAL SECURITY TEAM are arguing that the Taliban in Afghanistan do not pose a direct threat to the US. This is the team that has reponsibilities for protecting your family and mine. The team that advises our president on issues of security, safety and defense.

I wonder how the families of thousands of people killed on AMERICAN soil on 9/11 feel about that.

I guess these morons advising President Obama have forgotten it was the TALIBAN, in AFGHANISTAN, that provided safe refuge for Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda as they planned the 9/11 attacks.

How'd that work for us?

I would consider the Taliban a pretty direct threat to our national security. I'm pretty shocked that these folks do not.

Shameful and scary.

However, those of you that know me truly understand my passion for baseball, in particular, St. Louis Cardinals baseball.

I was born and raised a Cardinal fan. At the age of 6, in 1982, I remember sitting in my living room floor as the Cardinals celebrated their first World Series Championship in well over a decade. There were countless nights I spent falling asleep listening to the sound of Jack Buck’s voice coming from the radio. There was the heartbreak of 1985, 1987 and 2004, but the joy of 2006. And I’ll never forget wrapping a St. Louis Cardinal baby outfit for Christmas in 2002 to let my parents know they were going to be grandparents for the first time.

Some may call it obsession, but, hey, it’s Cardinal Nation.

So, it was with great pride that I watched Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game festivities from St. Louis this past week. The Mid-Summer Classic in America’s Best Baseball Town. It was great to see Ozzie, Vince, Lou, Gibby, Bruce and Red. I was happy to see Albert Pujols get the attention as the game’s best player that he has earned.

However, for me, the All-Star festivities were about one person, Stan “The Man” Musial. Stan is to St. Louis what Williams is to Boston, what Gehrig, Ruth and Mantle are to New York and what Willie is to the Giants. He’s an icon, he’s baseball royalty.

The All-Star Game was to be his moment. It was to be his time to be honored by his adoring fans and his time to be recognized for his achievements in front of a national audience. This was going to be the same moment that Ted Williams received in Boston in 1999 that he so richly deserved.

So I was ready. The wife and kiddo were running errands. I was ignoring the phone, ignoring the emails. The DVR was set. I wanted a record of this moment for baseball’s “Perfect Knight.” Admittedly, I was ready to get a little misty eyed.

Out came the cart, Stan the Man with ball in hand waving to the crowd, the fans showering him with affection and applause. Here it was, Stan’s moment. The cart slowly making its way to a spot near home plate, the crowd cheering, this was going to be magical. Then, it happened…nothing. The cart came to a stop. No players surrounding the cart, no video tribute…nothing.

They PA then announced the President of the United States to come out and take the ball from Stan to throw out the first pitch. Now, every single person reading this is thinking I’m going to blame this on Obama. No, this wasn’t his fault. Frankly, I had issues with the smattering of boos he received when he entered the field. He’s the President, whether you like the man or not, the office deserves respect.

The fault lies with Major League Baseball. Obama shouldn’t have been the person to throw the first pitch. For that matter, no President should be the person to throw the first pitch at an All-Star Game. Politics automatically splits the crowd. You take this moment, any moment, and insert politics and a crowd united by one thing, in this case baseball, automatically is divided. For the record though, Obama didn’t help himself by wearing a Chicago White Sox jacket in St. Louis.

I get Major League Baseball for wanting the President for the first pitch, and I realize that my opinion here is very clouded by my respect for Stan the Man. But on this night, in this stadium and in this city, it should have been about Stan Musial and nobody else.

Opportunities to honor legends on a national stage are few and far between. With steroids and performance enhancing drugs clouding the integrity of the game and record books, I think baseball should relish moments to honor the purely good people and outstanding baseball players of the past.

This should have been Stan’s time, he earned it and he deserved it. Major League Baseball stuck out looking on Tuesday night in St. Louis.

And frankly the first quarter of this year holds out little promise for better returns,"

Matter of fact, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer told Obama to lighten up.

Everyone just raved during the campaign about how calm, cool and collected Obama was. He never got too high, never got too low, he was just SOOOOO presidential.

Well, it's a lot different when you actually have the job. Obama has been off message and that message has been inconsistent at best.

Bottom line, Americans need a strong and steady leader at times like this and frankly, policies aside (which are wrong too), Obama is failing miserably.

Rush says he wants Obama to fail and he's criticized.

However, when Carville says it about Bush in 2001, it's OK.

Granted, Carville made his comments on September 11, 2001, just minutes before the planes hit the WTC. Carville, rightfully said, "Disregard everything we just said! This changes everything!" He was right about that.

However, that doesn't change the double standard of the Obama media. The reporters never published the comments by Carville then (which is understandable) but when Rush made his comments about Obama failing, Carville's comments were still kept under wraps.

This is just another vivid example of the media's double standard, compared with the feeding frenzy that followed Rush's comments about Obama failing.

And people wonder why newspapers are failing and going out of business. Could be that they quit reporting both sides of the news.

UPDATE:

Mr. Carville responds.

"Thank God that I had the good sense to realize that the United States was at war and that changed everything, Carville said. "Once I found out that the country was at war, I said: Whatever I said, disregard it; it's inoperative."

Are you kidding me?? We were at war from that point forward and we remain at war. While that may have changed Carville's feeling on 9/11 and the days following, it sure didn't stick. If anyone watched CNN during the election of 2004 and 2006, Jim let his feelings on President Bush and his policies very well known. He didn't hold back war or not.

Sorry Jimbo...weak response at best.

It isn't from a lack of things to say, more so a lack of time to say them.

For some of you, I'm sure you appreicate the fact my life has been somewhat of a blur the last 6 weeks or so.

Anyhow, I've wanted so badly to comment and discuss the total havoc that President Obama is doing to our economy. It's a disaster.

He's raising taxes, he spending money we don't have (which in fairness, Bush did too). But really, every day, another bailout for some sector of our nation that hasn't acted responsibly. To make it worse, folks that we have bailed out already continue to ask for more money we don't have.

Jim Cramer, who some of you have seen on CNBC's "Mad Money" has been very harsh on Obama's policies and what they are doing to the stock market and the economy.

Of course, Obama Spokesman Robert Gibbs, and frankly the rest of the administration, hasn't had to face much if any criticism and hard questions from the press, so they are lashing out at pretty much anyone who criticizes them...including Cramer.

Well, Cramer fought back. It took courage to vote against your party and your President and you should be commended.

If someone can explain to me how a bill that originally included monies to re-sod the National Mall and monies for contraception services can stimulate the economy I'd be willing to listen. Thankfully, after the GOP raised questions, those two "job creation" juggernauts were removed.

However, the bill still contained the $335 million for STD prevention, no doubt important, but as I asked yesterday, how many 'jobs' will that create.

Rush Limbaugh put forth a very interesting proposal today in the Wall Street Journal. It makes a lot of sense. I listen to Rush not so much because I agree with everything that he says, but he sure does entertain me 3 hours of the day.

But after reading his proposal, it is by far the best proposal I've heard from either party, from the President, from anybody.

Rush's proposal has as much of a chance of going anywhere, as say, the Cubs have of winning the World Series, but it makes a heck of a lot of sense.

Here is an excerpt:

Fifty-three percent of American voters voted for Barack Obama; 46% voted for John McCain, and 1% voted for wackos. Give that 1% to President Obama. Let's say the vote was 54% to 46%. As a way to bring the country together and at the same time determine the most effective way to deal with recessions, under the Obama-Limbaugh Stimulus Plan of 2009: 54% of the $900 billion -- $486 billion -- will be spent on infrastructure and pork as defined by Mr. Obama and the Democrats; 46% -- $414 billion -- will be directed toward tax cuts, as determined by me.

Then we compare. We see which stimulus actually works. This is bipartisanship! It would satisfy the American people's wishes, as polls currently note; and it would also serve as a measurable test as to which approach best stimulates job growth.

I encourage you to read the whole column.

Finally, I encourage you to contact your Senators. That is the next battleground. Our government's wasteful spending is what got us in the mess to begin with. We cannot spend our way out of debt. I don't want my son and my grandchildren saddled with this kind of irresponsibility.

Call your Senator today and urge them to cut out the wasteful spending and instead focus on tax cuts for small business. They are the one's who create the jobs.

UPDATE:

McCain says that he doesn't see any GOP votes for Obama's 'porkulus' bill. That's great news...keep up the pressure on your Senators.
