SeaDoo Challenger 2000 Review (BoatTest.com)

There are many benefits to having a jet-powered boat. With its direct-drive jet pump, it’s one of the most maneuverable craft you’ll drive. Jet pumps have many advantages, they add up to these four things; stronger acceleration, superior handling, better safety and improved shallow water operations. She draws only 12 inches!

The Challenger 2000 is fully loaded with an AM/FM stereo with CD player and 12-volt jack for your cell phone. There’s also a built-in cooler above the console to hold a six-pack of your favorite drinks. A large ski locker in the cockpit sole is big enough for two skis or a wakeboard.

Sea-Doo has created incredible room on this 19-foot, 9-inch boat. Her bucket seats are a real neat feature and they will not only keep you in place in tight turns, but they are also comfortable. With room for eight people, you can invite all your friends aboard this versatile platform.

Another plus to the Challenger 2000 is a choice of Mercury engines, either a 200- or 240-hp powerplant. These engines were developed by Mercury especially for Sea-Doo, says the company, and both have over-rev protection, along with low oil and engine overheat warnings. The mixed-flow, high-volume jet pump gives the boat excellent acceleration. There’s also a hydro-surge intake grate on the bottom of the boat to keep weeds out of the impeller.

The Challenger has 20 degrees of deadrise at the transom, which gives you the best ride possible in chop. We measured a quick hole-shot of 1.9 seconds to be exact. Its 2,100 lbs. is heavy enough for breaking through waves, but it doesn’t hold the boat back. In fact, this boat hit a top speed of 49.9 mph at 5650 rpm and her optimum cruise was at 27.6 mph at 4000 rpm. This all adds up to 109 miles of fun at best cruising speed.

Out in big water our test team was impressed with both her handling and the fact that everyone came back dry. Her 8-foot beam provided a stable ride and she cut right through waves like a samurai sword.

Once aboard the Challenger 2000 you’ll begin to understand why there’s so much excitement about this boat. The Challenger has much more to offer than just a fun, fast ride. She’s a versatile jet boat that can be used for a number of different water activities. Besides being attractive the Challenger is also nimble, fast and has very precise handling.

We like what See-Doo has done here which is to marry jet-pump propulsion with a versatile sport boat concept. We predict you will see this concept catch on.

For more information call (800) 882-2900 or visit http://www.seadoo.com.

Overview
The Challenger 2000 is a sport boat that’s designed to handle high speeds with confidence. Her sleek lines, radical look and seating for up to 8 people add up to a lot on this 20-footer.

Background
Currently in production.

Key Features
The Challenger 2000 is powered by a water jet pump, which gives you safety, quick acceleration and shoal draft. Bucket seats will keep you in place at high speeds and there are grabrails to hold onto when making tight turns. A ski locker is large enough for two skis or a wakeboard. On the helm side, the gauges are well laid out and easy to read, and the throttle has an elbow rest behind it to lessen driver fatigue. I have a 2000 Islandia that is giving me problems while traveling at high speeds, it shuts down. It's an intermittent problem that only occurs when running at or over 35 mph. The boat will run great for about 5 to 10 minutes before it shuts down no problem restarting. Have had it to several boat mechanic they say it's a pump problem but they can't resolve the problem, costing a lot for nothing.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

1997 Seadoo Sportster will not start

Hi I am new here and wanted to see if anyone can help. I have a Seadoo Sportster 1997 twine engine version. Both engines started and run with no problem, but now the engines turn but i am not getting a spark at the plugs. I have put new plugs in but no spark. I am thinking there has to be a fuse or something that is the issue but not sure. I took my boat to a local Seadoo dealer who said its water in the fuel. I drained that tank and not one bit of water, and that would not stop a spark at the plug. Therefore lost confidence in the seadoo dealer.

Any help is greatly apricated

New to jetboats

Howdy from Texas. Bought a 2008 Challenger 180 from a neighbor here at my lake in east Texas last week. 40 hours on it. Had a 12volt warning beep going off. Pulled it and parked it in the garage. Since I also own Seadoo skis and experienced this before, I replaced the rectifier and the 30amp fuse holder as it was pretty much melted. My Fluke says I am getting 14.6Volts at 3000rpm now so hopefully that issue is resolved. Bilge pump blows the fuse. Assume it is locked up. Have not been able to locate where it is yet. Any tips on location and an aftermarket replacement? After that is fixed, I will pull the SC and send it to PWC Muscle for a rebuild. Found lots of good info on here so far!

Mixing oil

I just bought a 1995 speedster, the engines were rebuilt in 2014, and I know the mechanic. The owner I bought the boat from told me to mix 25:1 outboard oil with the gas to baby the engine. It does smoke heavily at start up. Any help is appreciated as this is my first jet boat, and so far the way it handles is fantastic. Do I continue to pre-mix my gas. I still have the bombardier mineral oil in the boat as well.

Hydro-Turf Problem

I put down my Hydro-Turf in 2010 and noticed that it is starting to become brittle and actually a powdery type sustance will come off on your hand if you run it across the top. It's not like it sits in the sun that much since the cover only comes off on weekends during the summer. That is also the only time it gets any use. I am going to call the mfg., but wanted to see if anyone else had the same issue??

New To the Group

Hello all. My name is Robert. I am from Northern Indiana where the weather sucks at the moment. I recently purchased a 2011 Sea-Doo 210 Wake 310 and I am itching to get it in the water. I am new to boat maintenance as well but I have been doing my research on these Rotax engines. So far, Ive read that I did choose the better deal by not going supercharged due to the extra maintenance. I just purchased everything needed for a my preseason oil change. I will be tackling that this week.

Does anyone have any problematic areas I should keep an eye on for these boats and engines? Any special products that work better than others?

Thank you all in advance and I am happy to be a part of the club.

Speedster 200 -04 4-Tec engine issue

Hi
Just love my Speedster 200 with twin 155hp engines. However, I have a concern which I can not pinpoint. Maybe someone here can help me out.

At harbour, both engines fires right up and runs well (regardless if hot or cold). When I take it out to the ocean and gives some throttle (more than 50%) the right engine sooner or later starts to run rough, as if one cylinder shuts off. If I let go of the throttle and get back to 50%throttle it will still be in this loop of running bad. But if I pull the lanyard and kill the main switch, and switch it back again and restarts, the engine runs perfect until next time I give som throttle. I use Candoo pro, it doesnt throw any error codes.
I had this issue last year and then I also got an engine "red alert". Last winter I pulled the fuel pumps, changed filter and put in fresh gas. The problem still occours but no "red alert".
I have therefore done the following (with no progress):
- switched fuel lines
- switched spark coils
- put in new spark plugs
- Removed the hose for air inlet

With "switched" I mean switched parts between right and left motor to see if the problem follows the part of stays with the right motor. Still no progress.
I consider to do the following later on today:
- switch airbox
- switch fuse block
- switch damper housing or maybe just the air flow meter

Things I consider:
- switch crankshaft sensor
- switch oil pressure sensors
- switch air temp sensors

Anyone had similar problem or have inputs where to continue?

I have a 2010 Sea-Doo Challenger 210 - Twin 155's with a OEM Bimini top.

Looking to Replace the Bimini Canvas, Cockpit Cover and Bow Cover. Am I on a Wild Goose Chase or do these need to be made custom? There is one tag on the Bimini top Canvas called SURLAST.

Any Suggestions would be great.

I have been getting Prices of 600 just for the Canvas of the Bimini top.

Seems High to me? I am in Stuart, FL

Also does anybody know the Manufacturer of the Bimini top Frame.

Thank you!
