European river cruises are replacing traditional ocean cruises as being the ultimate method to travel around the continent. Europe's history began in communities formed along its vast river system. You will discover several ancient relics and also other historical sites along this body of water. This is exactly what many travellers look for whenever they visit. Going on a river cruise gives you a far more authentic European experience.

Experience a Different Side of Europe

People used to take luxury ocean cruise trips in the Mediterranean to see the majority of Europe. They went everywhere, seeing sights from their ships.
They stopped at specific locations merely to shop and gather supplies, yet they never stayed long enough to see the treasures of each country. It was fine with younger tourists. Older tourists want something less exhausting. Adventurous travellers, meanwhile, demand a taste of the "real" Europe.

Here is where river cruises in Europe enter the scene. River cruising continues to grow in popularity from the time it began some time ago. It allows travellers to observe Europe at a slower pace by staying in countries long enough to understand their culture. Additionally, you will notice many historical sites close up. Ocean cruises don't go by these locations as most early civilizations chose riverside locations.

Luxury ocean cruises provide excellent views of the Mediterranean beaches and sunsets. Meanwhile, river cruises present to you the rich countryside landscape. They provide excellent backdrop for any historical landmarks you will go by. You'll be able to select from several of Europe's major rivers, like the Danube, the Rhine, the Nile, or perhaps the Yangtze to mention a few.

Perfect Arrangement for Travellers

European river cruises have fewer passengers per boat. Those hunting for a laid-back trip will quickly realize this arrangement a perfect fit. It is more intimate and relaxing, which can be great for older travellers and honeymooners. You can have quiet nights looking at the stars while you appreciate the location from a short distance.

Like ocean cruises, plenty of people choose river cruises because they understand the exact price of their trip. You won't need to worry about accommodations, food, and transportation from a single country to another. River cruise packages include all of these, an excursion guide, and entertainment. The only real extra expenses you've got are for additional services you'll find on the ship, for instance spa treatments and on-board alcoholic beverages.

Cruise operators feature packages that include hotel accommodations in one or maybe more cities. It is best to grab this offer because it could save you both money and effort. They will make all necessary arrangements with locals and get the very best value for your own room. Provide them with your booking details and they will handle the rest while you enjoy your tour around Europe.

No problem finding, Simple to Book

There are many cruise operators offering river cruises in Europe. Doing a search online will provide you with a directory of operators you should check out. The majority of them will let you organize and book a trip on their website as well. You'll be able to choose from one of their packages or make your own customized itinerary.

You will need to think about the period of time you intend to travel as well as the river you prefer to visit. You should consider asking your provider regarding the best option to take for the cities you desire to visit.

Winter Days in the Bay of the Descending Dragon

By Brad Ruoho

Winter isn't always the best time to cruise Ha Long Bay, the best time usually falls around summer time, when the bay is warm and the days last longer then in the winter. However, my quick winter trip was wonderful and better then I expected when I went on a Ha Long Bay cruise in December.

We arrived in Hanoi at 8:00 a.m. and we got to Bai Chay port around 11:30 am. As I got out of the car, the salty sea air blew through my hair, the northeast monsoon covered the entire port with a fresh, cold breeze.

Up in the air, there were some eagles flying by; this was the first time, I saw an eagle that close. It took about 1 hour on our junk (a Vietnamese cruise ship) to arrive at Ha Long Bay. There is no doubt in my mind why Halong Bay was recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage site. My first thought of the junk ship we took out on our Ha Long Bay cruise was that it looked like a small floating hotel. Taking a look inside the rooms and other facilities, I was surprised by its modern, charming feel. The rooms on board the ship met the standards for a typical 4 star hotel, but we weren't at a hotel, we were cruising out at sea on wooden vessel; I was amazed.

Our junk cruised slowly on the green water while we enjoyed lunch with deliciously fresh sea food. After lunch, I had some free time to relax before our kayaking trip on Ha Long bay in the afternoon. I took my favorite book and read it on the sundeck where I could receive a nice tan. Sitting on the lounge chair, a light breeze blew all around me, as I looked around; our junk was surrounded by towering karsts emerging out of the water. The sun shone over the karsts on a rare sunny day in winter.

Ha Long Bay has over 2,000 islets with thousands of limestone karsts. Long ago, the Vietnamese people decided the islets in Halong bay presented many great hidden treasures. Many of the islets were named according to their shape: Ga Chọi (Fighting cocks) islet, Dua (Chopsticks) islet, Cho Da islet (Stone dog) and many others. Since the French colonial period, the french discovered the primitive beauty of Ha Long Bay, they were amazed by it so much that the image of Ha Long Bay was used on the countries stamps, postcards and other documents. Ha Long Bay is also famous for its caves and grottos such as: Sung Sot (Surprised) cave and Thien Cung (Sky Place) grotto. In side each cave or grotto there are hidden chambers with stalactites dropping from the ceiling, creating an amazing experience as you kayaking through the caves.

During the afternoon, we kayaked through a floating village named Cua Vạn. Paddling around the village, observing the life of people who live every day in the floating village was an experience I can't describe with words alone. In the floating village, if you want to visit your next-door neighbor, you have to use a boat to go visit him, otherwise your choice is to swim. That's why the locals here say that the children can swim and row before they can even walk. Touring Ha Long Bay is a beautiful destination for exploring and experiencing as a tourist, but for fishermen here Halong bay is a blessing from above and their main source for earning a living.

The variety of marine ecosystems in Ha Long Bay brings fishermen many types of seafood that only Halong has. We paddled by a fisherman while on our kayaks; he was on a small boat with his fresh catch of crab for the day. We purchased some of the freshly caught crab, put them in a bag in our kayak with plans to give them to the cruise ship's chef for dinner tonight. As we continued our kayaking trip on the bay we kayaked into a series of caves. Despite the bright sun outside, it got darker and darker as we paddled deeper into the cave, hundreds of stalactites dropped down all around us.

After enjoying the caves, we decided to paddle back to the cruise ship for dinner. For dinner that night, our chef surprised us again with a variety of wonderful seafood made in both traditional Vietnamese and Western style and of course he prepared a special delicious dish from our fresh crabs that we brought him earlier. After dinner we enjoyed drinks at the ship bar and exchanged laughs between the ships staff and eachother of the days events. They shared their boat stories with us of their adventures cruising on Ha Long bay.

The next morning I woke up early to catch the beautiful rising sun on the deck of our cruise ship, which I was told from the staff was a must see. Waking up at 5:30 am, there was nothing but darkness, I was disappointed thinking that the day would be foggy and cool. Totally wrapped in my blanket standing on the sun deck of the cruise ship I looked out over Ha Long Bay and desperately waited. Finally, my patience paid off, directly in front of the bow of the ship, the sun slowly rose above two limestone pillars. Looking behind me on the stern, the full-moon was still in the sky and clearly visible, it was a magical moment seeing both the aurora sky behind me and the red, yellow and pink sky in front of me. As I watched the sunlight reflect on the green water, iridescent as honey, I thought to myself that I've never seen the sun and the moon this big before, I felt that I could reach out and hold it with my hands. Black karsts gradually turned deep green as the sun rose over them and the wildlife woke up as I watched eagles fly overhead as they began searching for breakfast. Birds all around started singing, taking a deep breath, I enjoyed the nature that surrounded us.

After breakfast, we left Halong and headed back to Bai Chay port, once there we traveled back to Hanoi.

Leaving Halong bay with tons of photos and memories, we we're excited by all we got to see and experience during such a short trip. A cruise on Ha Long Bay provides people who travel to Vietnam many activities, from kayaking, swimming, fishing and diving, Ha Long Bay is a great destination for the adventure traveler who enjoys getting out and seeing nature.

Luxury Cruising Made Easy
Luxury cruising is an incredible all-inclusive experience for any traveler who seeks to ride the seas. There are several luxury cruise companies with many enticing destinations, so how do you know which locations and cruise lines best fit your needs?

Maximize your sea-faring experience with our guide to the top luxury cruise lines and the world's best cruising destinations.

Top Cruise Lines
Silversea Cruises – Experience luxury on the seas with their ocean-view suites, all-inclusive lifestyle, and distinct European style of design and dining.

Seabourn Cruise Line – With incredible space-to-guest ratios and ships with all-suite accommodations, this cruise line dwells in luxury living and hospitality.

Oceania Cruises – This upper premium cruise line travels to more than 330 ports around the world, including off-the-beaten path ports, and offers fine dining and luxury cruising aboard all ships.

Top Cruise Destinations
The Panama Canal - This is a must because the Canal is perhaps the world's most amazing engineering project. You will witness man's colossal fingerprints on nature as the canal links two oceans and separates continents.

Norway - You will take an immediate liking to the amazing geographical traits of Norway: the dramatic coastline, the sky-high rocky cliffs and the fjords. Add to that the picturesque world heritage towns and fishing villages. Norway boasts the third largest glacier in the Folgefonna glacier, which fills over 200 square kilometers.

Alaska - Most of us know little about the 50th State other than Northern Exposure. The tranquil, unspoiled waters, the mountains and glaciers filled in snow and the steep mountains will take your breath away. Try to get on land and head off through the continent's highest peak, Mt. McKinley, to see how far ahead you can look out.

Be Prepared for your Cruise
Taking a cruise is great. Being prepared for your cruise is better. If you are better prepared for your cruise, it will be much more enjoyable. Here are some guidelines to help you be better prepared:

Passports - If you don't have a passport, if your existing passport expires soon, or if you don't have enough pages left in your passport, it's time to get a new one. The passport office can be quite busy, so plan ahead and allow time to receive yours. Check with your travel specialist or cruise line about whether any visas are required for your cruise.

Shore Excursions - When you receive your cruise documents (your papers for boarding the ship), you usually will receive a shore excursion booklet describing the line's tour options in exotic ports of call. Read the booklet right away and make decisions as soon as possible if you plan to take any of the line's shore trips. By pre-reserving shore trips, you'll have a good shot at getting the ones you want. This is particularly important for popular activities with limited space, like swimming with the dolphins in the Caribbean or going dog-sledding in Alaska.

Credit Card Planning - Depending on the line's policy, length of cruise and type of journey, the line might get authorization for $50 to $200 in daily charges towards your credit card. That preliminary credit authorization will apply to your card until the end of the trip, perhaps leaving you with little usable credit on that card, at least temporarily. Savvy cruisers take along two credit cards: one for incidentals onboard and another for purchases they make ashore.

Luxury Cruises Make Vacation Planning Simpler and More Relaxing

If you're ready to experience true luxury over the seven seas, click here to find out more about luxury cruising aboard top cruise lines to endless exciting destinations.

A Phuket Yacht Charter Offers the Vacation of a Lifetime

By Brad C Hunter

For the vacation of a lifetime consider a Phuket Yacht Charter. Phuket is an area that is not only beautiful but offers near perfect sailing conditions all year round resulting in a great yachting experience. This includes dramatic diving locations, spectacular scenery and beautiful boats.

Variety in Boat Choices for a Phuket Yacht Charter

With a Phuket Yacht Charter one can choose a bareboat charter where a certified sailor has the option to captain the yacht himself, take care of all the provisions as well as the cooking and cleaning. A fully crewed charter yacht comes with an experienced captain, crew and chef that would take care of all the details. The provisions are an added cost but the crew would purchase and stock the yacht for the clients.

When considering the type of boats offered there are there are monohull sailing yachts, catamarans and single hull motor yachts varying in length from 45ft to 100ft or more. The larger yachts could accommodate several couples and the costs could split to make this type of vacation slightly more affordable. For those wanting a more private and more romantic cruise they may want to book a smaller yacht.

Sail the Azure Seas along the Shores of Phuket

The beaches and shores of Phuket entice sunseekers with their palm lined, white sand beaches and clear water for snorkeling. There are many very pleasant bays and coves with good anchorages Phang Nga Bay, the islands of Krabi, Phi Phi and Similan. Some have historic and quaint towns for exploring, shopping and dining, most are often located very close to the beaches.

Travelers visiting Phuket can find almost any type of water activity as well as plenty of things to do ashore. The well known beaches of Kata, Karon and Patong not only offer great daytime activities but lots of evening action as well. For instance, take a night off the yacht and spend it in Patong where there is a bustling night life which includes Cabarets, Beer Bars and restaurants.

Learn more about crewed charter yachts or bareboat charters at boatbookings.com. Here one can find all the information on the types and sizes of yachts commonly available in Phuket. One can also read about the captain, the crew and the trained chefs that are provided with the various charters. It is also advisable to read reviews from previous clients who have sailed aboard a Phuket Yacht Charter before booking.

The islands surrounding Phuket are one the most popular destinations in the world. A Phuket Yacht Charter is available for those interested in booking one of the best cruise vacations of their lives.

Author: belly marshal

Koh Phangan Ferry is although famous for its Full Moon Parties, Ko Phangan has a lot more to offer visitors than all night dancing. There are a small number of day trip options from Koh Samui, apart from sailing cruises, so at least an overnight stay is recommended.

Ko Phangan is at least ten years behind Samui in terms of development, which lends the island a lot of charm, as well as some would say it's more picturesque than Samui itself.
The main tourist beach Had Rin is busiest on Full Moon nights, however is well worth a visit the rest of the month too for its chaotic jumble of bars, clubs, restaurants and handicraft shops. The locals - expats and Thai's alike - are a friendly bunch plus help make the atmosphere a lot more laid back than frenetic Chaweng. Their attitude is that each night is a party night on Had Rin, which pretty much sums it up.

Instead of taking the route from Bangkok direct to Koh Samui using Bangkok Airways there is an additional way to get to Koh Samui and can work out a little cheaper. You can use Nok Air to fly to Suratthani airport then get the bus service to Donsak port where you can catch a ferry to Koh Samui or Koh Phangan Ferry. Speed Boat Services are also available.

Samui Flights

In detail if you got a flight to Surrathani from anywhere in Thailand when you arrive in Surrathani airport there is a bus service to Surrathani town. This will bring you an added bus station where you can catch a bus to Donsak port. You can as well book in Surrathani airport a bus to Donsak port, they will try to sell you a ticket for the ferry, which is your option, but most the time its best to buy it at the port.

If you flew with Nok Air they offer the opinion to buy an all in one ticket all the way to Koh Samui, which includes the ferry. They use the company Ferry Samui which operates the fast ferry service and Speed Boat Services to Koh Samui from Donsak; this is a new service by them.

Overall that it does take longer to do this way, the flight from Bangkok to Samui is about 35mins. Flight to Surrathani is about the same, however then you have a 2 hour bus ride from the airport to Surrathani town. Quite enjoyable ride along with you get to see some real Thailand life. Once in Surrathani you will then need to wait for the bus to Donsak which can occasionally be a few hours at the most. But this gives you a chance to look around Surrathani town, again which is a real Thai town as well as not really catered for the tourist. There are few markets and ample shops, including 7/11's which we all love to see and use. Even a pizzahut in Surrathani!

Samui Ferries

Donsak port is small, and deals with one purpose getting people to Koh Samui. A small restaurant, shop as well as credit card machines are here. There are lots of buses coming furthermore going and lots of cars waiting to board the Koh Phangan Ferry.

Once you arrive in Samui you will land at Nathon port, here you find plenty of taxis to take you wherever on the Island.

You will have a pleasant experience and not too bad journey. I have done it lots of times. Watch your bags, don't forget your bags on the bus, as well as follow the orders from the Thai's its easier.

Warning: Don't pay anything additional at any offices that will tell you the boat is full or it's delayed. A trick they use to get extra money from you to intend of giving you a better service.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Review

By Chris Cheyne

This summer I was able to take my family of four on a seven day cruise. This was our first cruise. We chose Royal Caribbean on the recommendation of family members who are big cruisers. We have two children, one eleven and one nine. Not having any experience cruising, I really didn't have any pre-conceived notions so I'm wasn't too picky about the cruise. We were on the Freedom of the Seas ship which is the second largest class of ship Royal has.Being a very independent person, I had a bit of a hard time the first day since you basically give up your freedom and are "stuck" on the ship.

This quickly passed as there are almost endless things to discover and do. It was also incredibly easy to relax which I don't get nearly enough of at home. I experienced no sea sickness as there is just the slightest bit of movement and sometimes vibration that you can feel on this massive ship. We did however have near perfect weather which always helps.

I loved the pool areas as did my kids. They loved having "kid" hot tubs, a small lazy river, buckets dumping water, and the other normal pool stuff. Soft serve complementary ice cream around the pool area is almost always present which they quickly discovered. This ship has plenty of deck chairs around the pool so it is easy to stake your claim even during the busy times. They also have a older kid pool area toward the middle of the ship which shows movies on the giant screen poolside. There are also plenty of staff run activities such as belly flop contests and line dancing which are just as fun to watch as to participate in. There is even an adult pool area on up toward the front of the ship. When I say adult, I just mean that kids are discouraged from visiting, not that clothing is optional. It's just more relaxed with a bar and more hot tubs which hang over the side of the ship. I really wish that I had discovered the rock wall and the Flowrider earlier into my trip. These two things are incredibly fun especially for the kids.

The food in the formal dining area was a huge treat. I was greatly pleased to find out that formal attire is only suggested but not required. Many people don't wear coats and ties to dinner which is just fine by me while on vacation. Of course plenty of people do dress up and nobody frowns on those who don't which was great. How great is was to have a world class wait staff who by the second meal already know your preferences and are quick to please. On lobster night our waiter brought my brother in law and I a second helping of lobster without us asking as he knew we would probably be too shy to ask for more.

Obviously I had a great time but here are my few complaints. If you like to drink soft drinks you may be out of luck. There are just a few selected kinds available on the ship. You may be without your favorite until you get to the next stop. Also, with 2 kids, I would have paid a little extra for a bigger room or even a room with a view. I talked to some folks who said save your money, your not in your room that much anyway, but It was very tight having the smallest interior rooms. That's really my only gripe, but I guess you can't have everything.

If you choose to go on a Royal Caribbean cruise, it's a good idea to join the Crown and Anchor society which is completely free. This allows you to get more and more free amenities the more you cruise. My father in law is at the next to the highest level and we were able to go through a special, shorter "VIP" line at boarding and get on before the crowd. This is like frequent flyer rewards but much more effective especially as you get quiet a few cruise nights under your belt. Well worth signing up for.

See the World on a Boat: Planning Your First Cruise

By Audrey Bosler

Planning for a cruise can be a very overwhelming experience, especially if it is your first time. Whether booking directly with a cruise line, through a travel agent, or online, it pays to be in the know. Here are some simple tips to make your cruise trip an experience you will never forget.

First, determine exactly how many you will be going on the cruise with. A lot of cruise vacations are family friendly and perfectly comfortable for both toddlers to seniors. However, if you do not have any children or plan to leave them at home, there are also cruises designed specially for adults. These cruises usually have dress codes, age restrictions and even civil status restrictions like singles- or couples-only cruises.

Decide on a budget and stick with it. Normally, booking fees are inclusive of food and drinks. However, if you want add-ons like bottles of fine wine or luxury dining and entertainment, you would need to pay extra. You can save money on accommodations by booking more than two heads per cabin, by booking way in advance, or by taking a chance on last-minute booking. Alternatively, book a less expensive room to have more cash on hand for shopping and dining.

Like a lot of other things in travel and tourism, cruise prices vary according to season. For example, cruises are normally more affordable in spring and in autumn. This is so because during that time, the weather may be unpredictable and the kids are usually at school. If you plan to travel without your kids in the autumn, this is a good time look at Mediterranean cruise deals. Some cruises have limited seasons like those crossing the Baltic Sea. Meanwhile, cruises to tropical destinations are available all year round.

The next thing you have to consider is how long your vacation will be. Naturally, the farther your destination, the more time you'll need. A South Pacific cruise departing from Calgary will take longer than a cruise along the Mexican Riviera. Consider this factor when booking cruise vacation packages.

Fabulous cruise destinations abound, so take your pick. You can immerse yourself in the Old World cultures aboard a European cruise, explore white sand beaches under the sun on a Bahamas cruise, or travel the mysterious Orient on an Asian cruise. Oceania's fleet consists of 4 vessels; the Nautica, Insignia, Regatta and Marina. Each of the ships boast state-of-the-art on board facilities... indulge yourself in Oceania's Spa, work off those calories in the hi-tech fitness centre, splash the cash (or free on-board spending credit) in the two boutiques, Feeling lucky? Then head to the glitzy casino, or socialize and meet fellow cruisers in one of the bars and lounges.

A new recruit...

The four vessels are set to become five in April with the launch of Marina's sister ship, Riviera. The Riviera will be christened in Monte Carlo, Monaco on the French Riviera on the 19th April. She's currently under construction at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Genoa. The Rivera's maiden voyage will commence on April 24. A 12-day itinerary, Riviera will sail from Athens- and will call at all those delightful ports of call along the way like Alexandria and Port Said, Egypt, Haifa, Jerusalem, Rhodes, Greece, Ephesus and Istanbul. After she's spent the summer and autumn sailing around the fascinating Mediterranean, the Riviera will then cross the Atlantic where she will spend the winter months sailing around the sun-soaked islands of the Caribbean.

A look into one of Oceania's ships...
There are many activities that are recommended for a visitor to Dubai. From the shopping of course where apart from state of the art malls where every conceivable branded product is available to the narrow lanes in the local markets called souks that are filled with treasure typical of the Middle East like spices, dry fruits, local artifacts etc. This is an experience in itself. The fact that Dubai is also among the safest cities in the world to visit adds to its charm. No visitor to Dubai must leave without a trip on the calm waters of the seas that surround Dubai.

There are many options for such cruises. There are local boats called the Dhows are used to ferry people around the coast of Dubai in the evenings and a dinner cruise in Dubai is a great way to end your trip before you leave for home. A dinner cruise in Dubai on a local handmade wooden boat is a great way to experience some of the local culture. A dinner cruise in Dubai usually lasts for about 2 hours and starts well after sunset.

This gives you enough time to relax and admire the lights on the coastline. You could join a group of tourists on a dinner cruise in Dubai or book an entire dhow for your friends and family.

The meal will be typical of the Arabic cuisine and will have all the specialties that are famous locally. These dinners are usually eaten sitting down and if you like then Hookahs are also provided. There are local musicians on board that will play Arabic tunes and a belly dancer can also be arranged to give the whole evening an even more authentic feel. While these dinner cruises on a dhow are not very expensive you can have the option of a luxury dinner cruise by booking or chartering a boat or yacht for yourself. There are many agencies that are very reliable and can arrange for a luxury dinner cruise if you are not n a budget in Dubai. These agencies will also take care of all the requirements for a local meal or will cater according to your taste.

Don't miss the chance for a luxury dinner cruise in Dubai, it is a must have experience.

What to Take on a River Cruise

By Adam Beattie

If you are a first time river cruiser heading out on your first river cruise, you may be struggling to work out what to take with you. Taking the right clothing and accessories with you can, in many cases, make or break your holiday. It is important that you get it right if you are not to be put off river cruising in the future.

For obvious reasons (like ice) many river cruises tend to run in the summer months. Because of this cruise passengers can generally pack quite light with summer shirts, shorts and skirts. Obviously sun and insect protection is also a good idea. It can be cool in the evening so a sweater and perhaps a light raincoat are also a good idea.

For footwear, it must be borne in mind that these cruises stop and allow passengers to explore multiple ports along the length of a river cruise. Taking good shoes for exploring in is a must. A sure-fire way to ruin your holiday would be to spend it with blisters and sore feet.

When booking your cruise you really need to check if there are formal attire requirements for meals or entertainment. If there are you will probably require evening wear, tuxedo, formal kilt outfit or ball/evening gown. Not all cruise lines have this requirement, although it may be wise to pack a jacket and tie even for an informal cruise.

When considering what luggage to take, bear in mind that your cabin on a cruise ship is not always the most spacious of holiday accommodation available. Rather than taking large, solid luggage that sits taking up room once emptied, consider taking softer pack-away luggage that you can stuff in a drawer once you have unpacked. This will make your cabin more comfortable over the length of your holiday.

No doubt you will visit the occasional shop on your shore excursions as part of the cruise. Everyone does it, but if you spend money on souvenirs and gifts to take home you should ensure you have got enough room in your luggage to get all your purchases home. It is a good idea to fill your outgoing luggage only half full when leaving for your cruise. That way you should have more room to treat yourself and buy some gifts for your family and friends.

Before you leave for your cruise you should carefully lay out all the items you are taking with you and catalogue them. Take photos of these items all laid out and leave the photos at home. Doing this means you have a list of all your luggage items that can be presented to a travel insurance company in the event that your luggage goes missing or is damaged. This applies to all holidays, not just to cruising.

A final consideration is that in most cases your luggage will have to be transferred onto a flight to get you home. You should ensure that you keep within the weight and size limits specified by the airline or you may be hit with a surplus luggage charge at the airport - not a pleasant way to end any holiday.
The streets are lined with Byzantium architecture and the way of life for many people has not changed much over the centuries. The Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace are two places that you will definitely want to see when you are in the city and it is even worth spending a couple of days exploring Istanbul itself and absorbing its rich culture before you go on your cruise journey.

Even the museums near the Port of Istanbul are fantastically built and The Turkish and Islamic Art Museum is found inside a 16th century palace and gives you a great insight into the past history of this colourful and enthralling city.

Beaches: The weather in Istanbul can be extremely warm during the summer months and it benefits from a good climate all year round. This means that the beaches in and around the city are extremely popular and Küçüksu beach is probably the most well-known however for something more romantic and intimate then head to Uzunya beach.

Shopping:An important area of the city is the Grand Bazaar that spans some 60 streets and is full of traditional Turkish shops and stalls that sell just about everything from furs to spices and silks. You can get lost in here for hours on end as you stroll around all the different vendors selling their locally made produce.

Then and Now

During the first half of the last century, luxury cruises were the rage. Massive, ornate ships with endless amenities ruled the seven seas. Trans-ocean flights were uncommon. However, it's quite different living in an immediate generation. There are a myriad of flights to anywhere on the globe. But there are still a plethora of luxury cruises for those who are as concerned about the magical journey as they are about a spectacular destination.

If you would enjoy a few more days at sea and fewer ports of call, then a luxury liner is right up your alley. There's nothing like the endless expanse of the sea. It's all about relaxing in style.

Bigger Is Better

There are a number of differences between luxury ships and excursions on pedestrian liners. Larger cabins, less crowded public spaces and exceptional dining experiences are typical for the top of the liner vacations. You'll have the opportunity to get away from everything or immerse yourself in an array of activities. It's impossible to be bored aboard a vessel loaded with possibilities.

Lush Features

Luxury ships feature world-class entertainment. Broadway style revues, musical acts and top-notch comics work the rooms on first class liners. "It's the greatest gig in the world for a comedian," stand-up comic Bobby Collins said. "They upped the ante on luxury lines hiring guys like me and David Brenner. They spare no expense on entertainment. That's not the way it was just a few years ago but now it's a different game. You have world-class artists on luxury ships and you never run out of things to do. It's absolutely awesome."

Entertainment

Fun activities are ubiquitous and constant. Luxury cruises feature movie theaters, dance clubs, spa treatments, piano bars, casinos, an array of restaurants, outdoor barbecues, boutique shopping, lectures, wine tastings, enormous swimming pools, jogging tracks, weight-lifting rooms, saunas, demonstrations and reading areas. It's like boarding a floating Manhattan, a city, or ship that never sleeps. But there is also plenty of quiet time. If you want to book a room that's five-star quality, with an array of delectable items that would sate a foodie but prefer to be alone for much of your trip, such an excursion would be perfect.

Book Your Getaway

It's not difficult to find the right luxury cruise. Where there is sea, there is a lux-liner. You can board such a vessel in such disparate parts of the world from New Zealand to New England to Antarctica. The bounds are limitless. You just need 40 tons of steel and just add water, lots of water. All you actually need is a reservation. Keep in mind that it's best to book in advance since the finer ships sell out quickly. You don't want to miss out on an experience that is unlike any other vacation.

Planning Caribbean Cruises: 4 Destinations For A Trip Of A Lifetime

Author: Susan Meredith

Caribbean cruises conjure up feelings of relaxation. After all, who wouldn't love to relax on a beautiful cruise ship, overlooking some of the clearest, bluest water in the world? Whether you've enjoyed taking a cruise in the past, or you're planning your first one, there are a number of popular places to enjoy a day off the ship.

Before you board however, check to see if you need a passport. In many cases, a visa isn't necessary, but this might vary by your cruise destination. Although being stuck on a luxurious ship wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, it's a good idea to make sure you're able to get out and enjoy the local culture.

Caribbean Cruises to Aruba

Whether you're interested in shopping, relaxing on the beach or taking part in outdoor activities like windsurfing, snorkeling, diving or fishing, a vacation in Aruba can be one that you'll remember for the rest of your life. The south coast of Aruba is a coral reef with more than 20 different dive sites and 11 wreckage sites, which makes it perfect for active vacationers.

Aruba also has a number of attractions, which makes it an ideal place for a day off a cruise ship. Natural wonders are everywhere throughout Arikok National Park, Casibari and Ayo rock formations and the Indian caves. If you prefer historic sites, consider visiting the Bushiribana gold mine or Alto Vista Chapel. If you're visiting with children, they'll enjoy visiting the Butterfly Farm, the Donkey Sanctuary and the Ostrich Farm.

Caribbean Cruises to The Bahamas

With 700 islands and some of the clearest water in the world, a Bahamian cruise offers visitors a wide variety of vacation options. If you're planning a Bahamian cruise, you'll need to first decide which of the many ports you want to sail into. Visitors can choose from Nassau and Paradise Island, Grand Bahama Island, Great Stirrup Cay, Castaway Cay, Half Moon Cay, Princess Cays and Coco Cay. Each of the different islands offer different amenities and options, but visitors are guaranteed to find miles upon miles of white sandy beaches.

Caribbean Cruises to Jamaica

Jamaica is one of the most famous cruise destinations. Visitors can choose from a number of different ports, but some of the most famous are Falmouth, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Port Antonio. While each port boasts its own unique cities and activities, Falmouth was recently named as the Port of the Year for 2011. Visitors to Falmouth can explore a local craft market at the Albert George Shopping and Historical Centre or visit the rum museum. Falmouth is a fairly new port, but it's one that steeped in history.

Caribbean Cruises to The Cayman Islands

With so many different ports, cruises in the Cayman Islands are other popular options. The main island, Grand Cayman, offers four different cruise ports. George Town offers plenty of historic sites for visitors, including the Public Library, Elmslie Memorial Church, the National Museum, the Town Clock and more. Areas on the eastern part of the island are less crowded and visitors can see the more natural parts of the island, such as the Mastic Reserve and Trail, the Wreck of the Ten Sails and the Blue Iguana Recovery Programme.
These are only some of the places cruises can take visitors. Many people research cruise destinations for months before boarding one of the ships, so if these destinations aren't for you, there are a number of others to choose from.

How to Plan a Group Cruise for Your Family and Friends

By Stephanie Zhang

Get out pen and paper. Start making a list of all the people with whom you would love to spend an afternoon or evening. This will become your guest list for a private cruise on the beautiful waves of Singapore. If this sounds like something you want to do, the following tips will help you arrange the perfect trip, with the perfect people, and on the perfect boat. Whatever the occasion may be, everyone will get off the boat more relaxed and joyous than they stepped on it.

1. Consider all the variables to control cost, or go all out with a splurge.

If you are imagining an enormous price tag on a private charter out into the waters for fifteen or more of your closest friends, check the prices out before you assume. You can actually purchase a five hour boating adventure for eighteen to twenty-four guests for around $2,000. This would be a boating adventure out to Lazarus Island, so your guests not only enjoy some time on the boat, but get to explore the island and relax awhile before heading back to the mainland of Singapore.

If you are worried about your budget, there are some variables that can be adjusted to control expenses:

Smaller boats are a bit cheaper than larger boats.

Keep your guest list under twenty, or there will likely be a fee for extra crew members needed to serve a larger group.

Trips during the week are often a bit cheaper than trips on Saturday or Sunday.

Bringing your own food and drink will save some expense over hiring a chef to cater your trip.

A trip on or on the eve of a holiday will always come at a higher price.

2. Choose the time of day according to the guests on board.

When you book a group cruise to Lazarus Island, you will be offered an afternoon or evening block of time. If you are traveling with adults and want more of a romantic or party atmosphere, you are perfectly suited to an evening escape on the waves. If you will be taking off with family members of all ages, then an afternoon trip will be perfect.

Think about the atmosphere on the boat as well as what you will be able to do once you reach the island. Adults and couples will enjoy walking on the beach at sunset and sipping wine on the beach, but children would much rather run and play in the sand during daylight. Think of your guests when you select a time.

3. Check the reputation of the service you are cruising with.

There aren't too many reputable services offering boating adventures out to Lazarus Island today. Make sure to check into the reputation of your cruise service, so you know you and your guests will make it back to shore safely. There is not a lot of risk here, but it is something necessary before putting your money and your lives in the boat.

A boating adventure out to Lazarus Island can be enjoyed by locals as well as Singapore visitors. If you pay attention to these three tips you will book the perfect trip for the people on your guest list.

Enjoy a 4-hour sunset cruise from Singapore.
Port Location: Izmir is the third largest metropolis in Turkey and it can be found on the Western coast of the country bordering the Gulf of Izmir and the Aegean Sea.

Transport: The Port of Izmir has a good transportation system if you happen to be embarking on a cruise from this location or just stopping off. Taxis are readily available and are not very expensive. A local bus service is also in operation for those on a budget.

Description: The Port is an important trading location for the West of the country and handles over 12m tonnes of cargo every year and also finds countless numbers of people pass through its shores as well.
Sightseeing and Excursions: The city itself can date its history back to ancient times however it has now transformed itself into a modern and sleek location that is dominated by commerce.

That being said, it is still a fantastic place to go for historical tours. Given its vast history it is only natural that the city should have an important museum and the Archaeological Museum of Izmir displays and showcases many different relics and objects from the past that have been excavated in the surrounding area and has around 10 thousand exhibits shown at any given time. Aside from this and if you are more into people watching and just absorbing the daily life of the city then head to the Konak Square. This is the main location in the city and is home to the City Hall and main bus station however it is a great place to sit back with a drink and watch everything that is going on around you.

Beaches: Cruises from Izmir are recognized for having very hot and humid summers with a damper climate in the winter time however it is a well-known spot for beach goers and you will not be in short supply. The Cesmealti is around 30km from the centre of the city and is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike.

Shopping:The Port of Izmir and the city itself has a very curious mix of ancient and ultra-modern. You can find the modern shopping centres in the city much in the same was as you would any other 21st century metropolis however there also exists a thriving local market that sells good that have been sold for centuries and they both culminate to create a unique and special cruise destination.

Huge luxury cruise liners, lavish yachts and speed boats that will blow your socks off, the boating industry is becoming hip and cool again. Now anyone who's anyone can be snapped taking a luxury holiday on a huge yacht somewhere. The cruise industry is also a holiday option which more and more people are deciding to take. It's an alternative to the run of the mill beach resort or city break.

Traditionally cruises have been associated with retirees wanting to take a luxury voyage and enjoy the serene beauty of the open sea. Now the industry is trying to change that image and attract a broader clientele. P & O Ferries and Crystal Cruises are pushing the boat out and introducing new technology, new entertainment and a new approach which is attracting a younger crowd to the luxury cruise market.

Today few working couples or families have time to take long cruises so many companies are offering shorter trips of 4 to 7 nights, particularly around the Mediterranean. With a younger demographic comes the demand for new destinations. New York has become very popular with 18-34 year olds. The lights of the 'Big Apple' and ample shopping and fine dining make it an attractive port for cruises.

As time progresses so does technology and the cruise industry is not being left behind. Some new cruise liners have artificial surf pools and even iLounges so people can use iPads and Macs in comfort. Not only this, leading companies in the industry are also installing glass bottom walkways, huge water slides and special sea viewing platforms to provide some exhilarating views of the ocean.

For most people the quarters of a cruise are cramped and less than satisfying but this is changing with large cruise ships becoming much better at utilising space without sacrificing comfort. You can expect similar comfort to a luxury hotel with a choice of various size cabins and suites. Some of the suites even have a personal concierge and butler service.

Today's economy is not exactly all plain sailing there is a lot of uncertainty. But that is not stopping holidaymakers taking cruises, some are opting for shorter breaks particularly the younger crowd. The weekend cruise for city slickers is a popular choice. It's a good way for people to sample a cruise and see if they like it. In the UK a few short cruises depart from Southampton and take a trip to Guernsey for a delightful meander to St. Peter Port. The appeal is the avoidance of increasingly annoying airports as your holiday effectively starts as soon as you board the ship. Life on a ship is set to a different pace. Although you can enjoy exciting entertainment, for those that just want to unwind and enjoy a relaxing break taking in the clean sea air there is no better option.

The luxury cruise industry is changing its image for the better and with new destinations and attractions that rival even the best resorts the cruise holiday is certainly here to stay.

Every summer, many lucky passengers of the magnificent fleet of cruise ships sailing the Med disembark at the port of Rhodes for the day. Many of these passengers are couples who have considered getting married aboard their respective cruise ship but have been put off by the high cost of this service not to mention that their 'wedding' aboard the vessel would be simply symbolic and therefore have no legal standing. Now Unique Weddings Rhodes, in its quest to lead the local market, continually raising the bar, has the enviable position of being able to facilitate the weddings of cruise ship couples arriving at the port of Rhodes.

Beverley, the senior wedding coordinator of Unique Weddings Rhodes, in addition to being an officially recognised Travel Agent in Rhodes, also holds a Shipping Agent's license, entitling her to full access of all areas of the ports of Rhodes and to many cruise ships too.

In contrast to weddings held aboard cruise ships, where the couple is symbolically married by the captain or chaplain and the marriage has no legal standing, here on Rhodes you can have a legally binding civil wedding which is internationally recognised.

The wedding packages and bespoke extras offered by Unique Weddings Rhodes are competitively priced and offer an economic alternative to both the on-board and shore weddings offered by any cruise company.
The wedding venue locations vary in style and grandeur:

The magnificent Springs & Spa of Kallithea, constructed by the Italians in the 1920s and recently renovated, full of arches, domes & mosaic floorings, is festooned with jasmine, bougainvillea and wild herbs. Built around a natural harbour, the waters of the Mediterranean create an azure halo framing the location. Cool and chic this venue will take your breath away!

Alternatively St Sophia, a small whitewashed chapel, perched on a hill high above the bay of Faliraki. The secluded position of this venue, together with the backdrop of a seemingly infinite blue where sky and sea merge, is an ideal choice for an intimate wedding ceremony.

St Paul's, Lindos, arguably the most popular wedding venue on Rhodes, lies just 40 minutes by car from the port of Rhodes. The tiny chapel, built on the spot where St Paul reached shore during one of his missionary journies, lies at the feet of the magnificent Acropolis of Lindos.

All venues are easily accessible (even for those with mobility problems) and located within a short to medium drive from the port.

In 2011 Unique Weddings Rhodes had the privilege of coordinating two cruise couple weddings:
Firstly Rob & Simone chose to have a symbolic wedding at Kallithea Spa and were lucky enough to exchange their vows in the presence of their guests from their home countries of Canada and Brazil.
Later in the year, Kevin & Lorraine, joined by their family and friends from Scotland, held their official civil wedding at the quaint chapel of St Paul's in Lindos zhlobin-museum.com.

As cruise ship tourism is becoming increasingly popular here in the South East Aegean Unique Weddings Rhodes look forward to greeting many more happy couples on the quayside of Rhodes Harbour!
