The smartphone power many hold in the palm of their hand comes with great sharing responsibility responsibility. Every day emails, tweets, posts, likes and pictures bombard our attention. It takes seconds to fire off an email, post a picture to Facebook or instagram, or share the latest YouTube video. This power comes with responsibility. The ease of sharing leaves out an important consideration:

quick payday loans with small commissions

Should you post?

What’s the goal?

What benefit will your intended audience gain?

Do you even have an intended audience?

I love photo sharing sites. The community, immediacy and education are quite beneficial for me. Imagine a world where, instead of people sharing every single picture they thought was cool, that instead they share only the BEST of what they created. This is subjective to be sure, but consider the impact of deliberate sharing. Considered sharing. Sharing the best, on purpose. What would happen to quality? What would happen to the standards of the community over all?

Now some of us do this, but I ask what if we ALL did?

I keep having a conversation with my grandmother. She is unhappy with the quality of our relationship. She lives 2,000 miles away in Anchorage and I am here in Seattle. She thinks that I exclude her, and don’t discuss anything of substance with her. She mentions I don’t discuss my interests, friends, etc.
In my mind, for the entire time that I have known her, she hasn’t remembered the names of any girlfriends, childhood friends, or interests. I love movies. She hasn’t been in a theater in decades and wouldn’t know a DVD from a CD if her life depended on it. This is a disincentive to mentioning any of those things. We lack an opportunity for proximity unless I make the trek to AK. She wasnt at any of my graduations, be it highschool or college. That behavior is fine. What isnt fine is behaving as if a phone based relationship is going to be the same as if I was around her everyday.
I hit her with the best example I know of, photography. I have over the last 10 years taken thousands of photographs. The bulk of them are online. She doesn’t have an email address. , she is 76. Change is something that is opt in for her. That said, I can only bear so much of the burden for the style, quality and frequency of our communication. Frankly, I don’t have to do what I currently do, which is talk to her every other day. I don’t talk to my FRIENDS that frequently.
I did the best I could to share my point of view with her in a respectful way. This is in large part to my recent effort to hold in my mind “What else could this mean?” when I run into challenging situations. I chose to believe that she truly wants to connect with me, and feels like I am cutting her out. There is a way to achieve what she wants, closeness. It will take effort on her part, and therein lies the rub.
Seriously. An email address. Even the GEICO cavemen have email. They text on mobile phones. Not cordless phones mind you, but MOBILE PHONES. I am Marty McFly, and she is my Biff Tannen.

*UPDATE* 2/1/2011 A caveat dear reader, you may save more or less depending on your current situation. You may not save much of anything if you are currently on a corporate sponsored plan via your employer. MY APOLOGIES MATT. -Sean

Time to read: 3 min

I love optimizing as much as I love saving money. Give me a system, a tangible thing, or an idea and I will find a way to make it better. In this post I will show you several quick ways save a minimum of $20. Im just putting cash in your pocket, so read on.

Got a cell phone? Want to pay less for your service? Follow the step below. Save money.

Go to billshrink and once you have it analyze your bill it will provide you with the best deal available based on your needs. This takes into consideration factors such as carrier, home/work location, and your personal feature(text, data, voice) requirements. Potential savings $20 a month.

Validas also offers an analysis of your cell phone usage and service and will even generate an email to your cell phone carrier to help you change your wireless plan.

Thank me later.

I often see Facebook posts to the effect of “I lost all my contacts, send me your number”.

Seeing this repeatedly, from the same people is what prompts this post.

First, did you know Facebook has its very own phonebook? It’s accessible via your friends list. Click on Account, Edit Friends, and then on the left you should see “phonebook”. Here you will see all of your friends that have added their phone numbers to their profile.

Why would you add your phone number to your Facebook profile? Well, for starters it helps your friends who actually want to call you. Second, if say, you dropped your phone in the pool, and got a brand new smartphone, it would let you sync those contacts right back to it. No manual entry required.

But maybe Facebook isn’t your thing. That’s cool; I bet if 500 million people jumped off a bridge you’d just go back to watching Jeopardy! All of the major webmail providers offer address books. Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Hotmail all offer addresses books. All offer upload and download of contacts and will continue to work if your phone explodes.

Try one, use one. Stop posting SOS’s. Know your tools.

Being awesome means being actively flawed. I think people get hung up on perfect execution, but id rather have crayon scrawls on paper than a masterpiece in my mind. Doing is good.

This probably means I have to make some changes. You cant do what you’ve always done and expect changes. Probably need to fire some folk, build some new habits, and focus on the journey. I hate the between.

“Start where you are, Use what you have, Do what you can” -Arthur Ashe

Today was difficult for me. I broke the auto focus on my Nikon lens, got into a fender bender and lost some cash. I’m not communicating as well as I would like to with people that are important to me.

Despite my day, I’m focusing on what I can do, and doing it.

Action is the underrated catalyst for awesomeness. Things don’t just happen, they get done.

Right now, there is something you are stuck on. You don’t have to solve it right now, but you DO need to move the needle. Go do that thing.

What are you currently stuck on? Let me know in the comments

Men often ask me for advice on what dating products I would recommend. Many products are worth buying and yet it’s a challenging question because it depends on where a person is at in his learning. It’s a reasonable question though. Depending on where a guy is at in his dating game I could comfortably recommend material by David DeAngelo, Vin DiCarlo, Neil Strauss , and even Paul Janka.

The challenge is that no magic bullet exists. There is no product that is right for every guy.

Opportunities range from simple style and fashion issues to starting, and continuing quality conversations. Deeper learning material covering what it really means to create and develop a lasting attraction vs. flash in the pan one night action is an entirely different level.

Luckily there is material available, both free and paid that address all manner of coaching. From the beginner to the man who just wants to eliminate a very specific sticking point, there is a product available.

In a future post, I will do my best to share what I know. Hopefully it will serve as a bit of a FAQ, and I won’t have to answer another email.
