Team Fortress 2 just added a built in replay and video editor. It's really cool. This is just a practice run to see how it works. I'll have to play more so I have more interesting things to capture.

Also funny thing I noticed while watching this video encode is the red Spy in the background during the second half, just watching his teammate get killed, shooting one shot to try to help, and then cloaking himself and running away.

Now that SXSW is over and it's the beginning of the work week, I keep reading all these articles about surprises and activities that took place at SXSW. I already wanted to go, now it's just making it more unbearable that I had no chance of going.

The only thing I really was aware of happening at SXSW this year was the premiere of the Bob Forrest documentary, Bob and the Monster. I know it's something I'll be able to see in the future, so I'm really not that upset about missing that, but obviously if I had been there I would not have missed this. Bob Forrest is one of my favorite singer/songwriters and probably one the best of the last two decades. And even if he wasn't, this movie just sounds interesting. His transformation from insane heroin addict into one of the most important drug counselors in California sounds incredible. (spoiler alert: the monster is heroin)

Other exciting sounding things that happened included the super surprise Death from Above 1979 reunion where gates and people were trampled, drunks were beaten and tased, and cops were assholes. Snoop Dogg, Diddy, Warren G, and tha Dogg Pound did a tribute to Nate Dogg, who passed on the first day of the festival (not related). Plus I would have liked to see Kurt Vile, Odd Future, The Kills, Bright Eyes, and probably would have found a handful of great bands I'd never even heard of. Plus Queens of the Stone Age were there, playing their self titled album in full and the whole festival ended with fireworks and The Strokes playing Last Nite.

But what really blew my mind was this:

Jack White presented his brand new Third Man Rolling Record Store. A giant truck, full of vinyls and air conditioning and vinyls. He also plugged his guitar straight into the truck and jammed for a bit. He said he plans to take it to other festivals and car shows and weird Jack White type things like that. I know I'll be keeping track of it and the second it enters into southern California I'll be planning when and where to take a crack at it. I hope it comes to Fuck Ya Fest, it's a beautiful thing.

Found this thanks to Boris. They did a cover of one of their songs on their recently released collaboration with Merzbow, a collab they did back in 2004 I guess, but didn't release until now. The album is basically just Merzbow-iness with even more feedback and stuff. Still way better than their actual new release, New Album, which, as a big time Boris fan, is embarrassing to listen to. I wish I was exaggerating but it really is. Jpop alternative rock bullshit. If it didn't have the Boris name on it I wouldn't be so critical I guess, I still wouldn't listen to it, but I wouldn't think it sucked either. The weird industrial/techno song on it is just the worst, unbearable.

But anyway, I did find this old German band, Jane, from the 70s that is just incredible. Super jammy, your standard classic rock fare, only with those great, funky, Krautrock basslines and a heavy helping of synth and keyboard. And the singer has more soul than most. Also really, really fantastic guitar solos that go on for ages.

PixelJunk Shooter 2 is dangerously harder than the first one. Still some of the most innovative level design and puzzles in 2D I've ever seen. This is one of the most exciting levels thanks to that frantic run for the exit after you rescue the last guy.
