In addition to my creative SeaweedArt side and my passion for ocean conservation, I am also an independent insurance professional. These are two paths that lead me to helping others and I give back to the community. In the spirit of giving I have developed a fundraising referral program that benefits marine conservation causes. Here’s how it works.

I will donate $25 to the ocean cause of your choice for any referral sent to me that turns into a policy. The average household typically has three policies– two autos and a homeowners/renters policy, which totals $75. That adds up fast.

Not only will I pay the referral fee(s) to you when the policies are issued, but also when they renew annually, so long as the policy stays in force. This is an easy, hassle free way of generating revenue that is on going.

To learn more about how you can enroll your organization in this program please contact me at Beth@seaweedart.com.

In 2000, when the federal BEACH Act was passed, water quality monitoring made big advancements in setting standards and funding monitoring programs to ensure your safety.

Just like health safety inspections for food, we rely on water quality monitoring and reporting to ensure that the water we swim, surf and play in is safe. With 23,481 beach closures and advisories issued last year, now is not the time to stop beach monitoring.

The environmental and scientific communities are concerned that this would add hunting pressure on sea otters in Southeast Alaska and elsewhere in Alaska and that this is being carried out as a means of managing fisheries through predator control.
Did you know that in the past decade, more and more personal care products have been sold in The United States and around the world that contain micro-plastic particle abrasives used as an exfoliant? This is perhaps the most offensive form of plastic pollution because this plastic is actually designed to be washed down the drain.

Micro-plastic particles are found in all oceanic gyres, bays, gulfs and seas worldwide. Micro-plastics are pervasive in the environment. They absorb persistent organic pollutants and are consumed by a variety of marine life including the fish we harvest for food.

Natural alternatives such as apricot shells, cocoa beans and sea salt can be used as sustainable alternatives to plastic.

The 5 Gyres Institute, together with their Global Partners, Plastic Free Seas and The Plastic Soup Foundation have initiated a campaign to eliminate this plastic from all consumer products by demanding that companies cease using them in their products.

My husband Bill and I were fortunate to attend a talk given last week by the CEO of Team Oracle about the America’s Cup that is coming to San Francisco this summer. Wow! It was amazing. We met a few of the crew members from competing teams who talked about the aerodynamic designs of the catamarans. They showed this video of boats on foils literally flying out of the air. Watch it and be amazed.

Body lotions, soaps, shampoos, perfumes and makeup are all common products that everyone uses. Evidence suggests that what we put on our skin penetrates our internal organs within 23 seconds of application. That is very disturbing. We can avoid this problem by using products that are environmentally safe, toxin free, botanically based and inspired by nature.

Arbonne is a highly regarded full line of health and wellness products with a rich Swiss heritage. I tried these products when I was introduced to them by my friend Kim and I was hooked. I first sampled the Sea Source Botanicals, (naturally) but I have since tried almost everything in the catalog and I can’t recommend them enough. I feel rest assured that I am using products that are safe for my health and safe for the environment.

Pure. Safe. Beneficial.
