Have a good summer!

Looking at the next photograph I was wondering what the special thing is about this photograph. Then I zoomed in, and there was the surprise. I uploaded this photograph in full resolution so that you can find out for yourself:

And for the fun of it, here’s another one to zoom in. Taken at with the 35/1.4 at 1.4. Pretty sharp lens, huh? Makes it fun to explore the details. Pity the fullview with this flash tool doesn’t look too good. Oh, and as far as I know color profiles are not interpreted in it either (general Flash problem). Maybe I should just stop complaining :p

I’ve actually used some of the photographs shown here in a post a year ago, when I was trying different blog designs. Even if I wasn’t posting officially on this blog at that time, you still might have seen them. Still I hope most of you have not.

I’m not quite satisfied with the colors, but after several hours of repeated corrections I thought I’ll be fine and leave perfectionism aside for today ;).

One thing I notice in old photos is how I see all the things that I’d do differently today: Make the lines straight, change the balance of shapes, expose differently – but apart of all “errors” it’s always a big reward to see how you’ve improved from one year to another. That, to me, makes it really worth to spend time on photography.

If these photos look familiar, it’s because they were the last ones I posted on my old blog. I wasn’t satisfied with my color editing at that time, but always liked the 2nd frame for it’s simplicity. So just re-edited it now and threw two more photos in to create a small “story”.

Later the same day we went to LaQua Park next to Tokyo Dome to take the Thunder Dolphin roller coaster – with 80 m (262 ft) height it’s the 5th-highest roller coaster world-wide, speed goes up to 130 km/h (80 mph/h). It was insane!

And to top it off we finished the day with Linear Gale, which shoots you straight up on the two upwards-pointing ends of a rail (it’s like a half-pipe roller coaster).

And back to business as usual ..

Have to figure out yet what to post next, guess more digital. And since the darkroom works again I might just process my 60+ rolls I haven’t processed since March and start posting 1,5 years worth of film ;).

Since I’m not a good book reviewer, I’ll cite from amazon.com where reviewer Shane Wight says: “If you’re an artist and you want to understand spatial relationships in a city without all the people this is the book for you. It’s a great collection of images that help you understand the levels of detail as cities receded into the mass of steel, concrete, plastic and glass. I wished there were more books like this for other distinct cities.” If you get a chance, have a look at the book.
