Sorry, I have not updated you guys for 3 months now, I have been so busy, so this update will encompass everything that happened between July, August, and October of 2022. We survived some of the updates that happened between May and July then everything changed at the end of August.

Attended the burial of my granny, and as tradition demands, I hold the head of the coffin since my dad was her first son, and he is no longer here with us to carry out the function.

The Update

We were hit by UNhelpful content update; it got worse in September with the product review and the September core update.

Majorly affected during that period was thebingeful.com, then a few weeks later, thetechtian and wheelsinquirer lost about 30% traffic while thebingeful lost close to 70% of its traffic… Below is a screenshot from ahref.

So far, we are still being affected by the updates, from the helpful content update, the September core update, the September product review update, and now October spam update. We hope things normalise as soon as possible so we can benefit from the last Q4 months.

Some of the smaller sites also got hit by the updates.

Return to Spinupwp and Pressable

For some days, I tested spinupwp again, and for some reason, it got worse, linkwhisper was SLOW and very slow that it was almost unusable, and I can’t return cloudways since, for some reason you pay more for the server, and it still overloads and make things stop working for minutes.

So I reached out to pressable again to see if they still haven’t made SSH/SHELL available for users, and they said it’s in beta and will be activated for me; I was happy because I usually like to use XML export of WordPress, so I don’t have move with some bugs and spinupwp is using MySQL 8.0 while pressable was using MariaDB.

That was how I moved back to Pressable and did the transfer via SSH by myself, though Pressable agent Matt helped with moving thexplorion, as anything larger than 50MB fails from my end.

The Editor

With the team getting larger, the need for an editor became more pronounced, so I sent an offer for the editor position, but the person has been thinking about it for over a month now, however while we are waiting, my wife has also joined the editorial team, we need at least 3 people for this position aside myself.

Here is all that went down at Krafty Sprouts Media, LLC, in June of 2022; hopefully, I can have the strength to continue with this update on a regular basis.

There was a May 2022 core update; the good news is we survived, and all 4 sites that we were focusing on survived; this would be the first time we have survived such, and we hope and pray it continues.

However, in June, I noticed that some of the sites started losing their ranks; yes, we got it by an update this month; major victims are WI and TT… WI also lost the small love it receives from Google and discovered that it’s now too little.

However, there have been some little gains and upward trends of late… We also made new hires, and aside from that, we increased the amount we pay per word to up to ₦2 for some persons.

The increase is based on some progress made and things recovering after COVID-19. We have also shut down 6 of the smaller animal sites and merged them into one, Animalofthings.com; this has also reduced our total focus to just 7 sites, which I think is enough for now…

June 2022 Stats

These are directly from google analytics. Also some of the sites are just getting started, like AOT, and some also had some gains, like thebingeful had a 7% increase in users.

So, after thinking if I should move all the content to a new domain, I decided to move just the dog articles that have been getting 100+ impressions in the last 28 days using the google site kit plugin.

That was how hellopooches.com was born; I need a name different from all the dog keywords attached to domain names; there are 100s of them; at Krafty sprouts media, we do things differently.

But I don’t want to manage servers in the meantime and I do not want to spend much on hosting, so while doing my search I found pressable web hosting, it’s a manage hosting that is owned by Automattic yes the people that own wordpress.com, jetpack, and others.

After checking their plans, they are suitable for us here at krafty sprouts media and they speak English so it will be easy to explain things and they will understand.

Don’t get me wrong clouways are fine and support is ok but sometimes it’s hard passing a message.

While I am leaving cloudways is that they are selling a $20 server as $43 for vultr, the server is always running out of RAM and CPU which also impacts performance as I can’t run automated services like using Link whisper, Yoast indexing because the dashboard becomes too slow and I have to wait for the process to finish.

Another thing is when opening multiple posts to edit links whisper won’t work on some of them due to not having enough resources.

We still use cloudways for thegloor.com since pressable does not accept its kind of site.

My experience so far using pressable is GREAT, support is good, they even migrated all 6 sites themselves for FREE, and they go the extra miles to help-out with few issues that have arrived.

My displeasure is that the dashboard lacks a lot and would need some improvement, for starters you can’t see the statics until you open each site, in this aspect kinsta beats it hands down.

I have also noticed importing demo content from the theme does not work well with the theme.

Hopefully, they will improve on the platform and also keep their services GREAT. With pressable we pay $90/m for 10 WordPress install and 150, 000-page views.

The UI looks like a 2010 project hope there will be an improvement in that regards soon, for now so long price is not an issue we will remain for a long time.
