For day 4 of the SEEN Christmas 2013 gift guide, we picked a book released by Red Bull’s Music Academy.

“For the record” features 15 conversations with “people who have shaped the way we listen to music”. While from a Jamaica-lovers’ perspective, the talks between Adrian Sherwood and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry as well as Matias Aguayo and Sly & Robbie are probably the most interesting, e.g. the meet-ups of Benny Ill and Moritz von Oswald or Just Blaze and Paul Riser are definitely worth reading, too.

In August 2012, photographer Alexander Richter and writer Sean Stewart spent seven days documenting music, art, sports and street life in Kingston, Jamaica.

They e.g. went digging at Augustus Pablo’s Rockers International; met an Australian abstract sculptress planting artistic roots downtown; navigated arcane stroll politics in New Kingston; visited dancehall deejay Ice Cold on a rainy night in Mud Town; reasoned with reggae revivalist Protoje; convened with Uncle Demon and the legion; and found the sweet science of bruising resurgent at Stanley Couch Gym.

The content they gathered was posted at sevensclash.com on a bi-weekly basis over the course of the following seven months. Now, they feature a selection of their favorite stories from the project with some fresh design and a bunch of previously unreleased photos in a 7.75” x 10.5” zine. Laser-printed in full color, the 40 page publication comes with a postcard and stickers and is limited to 100 pieces.

While it turned out yesterday that the judge in the Kartel trial is about to direct the jury to return a formal verdict of not guilty of the murder of St. Catherine businessman Barrington »Bossy« Burton, the Werl’ Boss will remain in custody because he has another murder case pending against him.

Meanwhile, two time World Reggae Dance Championships winners Shady Squad released their entertaining take on the Kartel’s song »Peanut Shell« pon Youtube. Watch the short film above.
