Hi, I'm Katelyn and I'm 13 years old. I was born in Florida. I live with my mom and dad and my brother who'll be leaving for the military in August.

I have a good life. Good parents, good house, good education, good grades.

But recently things have been fallling apart. My parents are about to get in a divorce, I'm failing all of my classes and I almost got kicked out of my school.

Since I was ten years old, I have cut myself. But about a year ago, I visited a doctor and I was put on anti-depressants and had to stop cutting. My urges to SI have come back and for about 2 weeks, I have been burning myself with an eraser.

Girls at my school also have been starting rumors about me being fat and gross and disgusting, so I really been watching my weight and trying to skip meals. I know it's wrong but I can't help it.

Hi all,

I am a trainee clinical psychologist based at Lancaster University in the UK. I am currently designing a study that aims to explore the types of imagery people who self injure experience in relation to self injury. If anyone would be interested I would like to share my study design and my interview procedure with you to gain your views on the research.

My hope is that I can create a study that promotes understanding and challenges stigma within society. It is really important to me that I have the help of people who actually self injure to help me achieve this, otherwise there may be things that I miss or haven't thought of, because I'm approaching the research mainly as a psychologist, not as someone who self injures.

If you are interested please email p [dot] darganlancaster [dot] ac [dot] uk and I would be glad to send you a copy of my study pack for you to critique. I am looking to get the views of at least 8 people.

I have compiled the expertise of people with first hand experience of self injury for other research and the input I have received has been invaluable. This research will eventually be presented at conferences and submitted to academic journals therefore any input you can give will go a long way and will encourage other researchers to do the same, which means future studies will improve. Anyone of any age can take part at this stage as it is not part of the actual research.

I'm 59. I've been injuring myself since I was a little girl. I used to pull out my toe nails when I was little. I started cutting and pulling out hair in my teens. I've never stopped, except for short spells. I don't think I'm doing myslef any harm - it's less harmful than smoking or drinking too much. But people around me hate it. Although I'm not ashamed of it, I feel I need to cover up to save them from feeling bad.

Having a little problem at the moment in that I've got a large sore on my arm but all dressings stick to it and keep bringing the scab off. Not sure what to do here. I quite like the look of it, but nobody else does. And I'm a teacher so I have to cover up.
