What is Vaudeville?

When most people think of vaudeville, it conjures up images of painted-on facial expressions and skits: but it's so much more than these old ideas. Vaudeville is a dynamic and beautiful type of entertainment ranging from burlesque and comedy to song and dance. This art has been kept alive by modern artists and is one of the most thrilling experiences anyone can enjoy!

When Did It Start?

Known as the original variety show, vaudeville started in France in the 1890s and was highly popular until the 1930s when war and the influx of televisions took over public consciousness. The original shows were made in response to traveling circuses, offering instead some skilled acting and singing and the chance for visitors to relax and laugh.

What Did It Include?

Comedy skits are the central part of vaudeville. Not only are these skits used to fill time between musical performances, but they also help stretch the show out and allow the guests to laugh and enjoy themselves. Unfortunately, part of this history is tied into minstrelsy when vaudeville became popular in the United States, including these performances, but this is no longer a part of the modern performances. Most performers will openly discuss how it's moved away from this part of its past.

Burlesque has always been a part of vaudeville, teasing fun dances allowing both male and female performers to show off a more sensual side while mainly remaining clothed. Although burlesque has since become its own thing, it's still considered a large part of modern vaudeville.

Magic acts were also every day in these shows, attempting to stupify and amaze the audience with tracks that shouldn't be possible. These would range from daring feats to simple card tricks and would progress as the show went on.

How Common Is It Now?

Many modern vaudeville shows work hard to set themselves apart. More commonly dinner theater, these two hours shows follow a lot of what was performed in the originals while putting modern twists and fun to keep it exciting and new. Breathing life into this theater genre isn't easy, so most of these performances are only found in large cities, and few travel the country.

You can still find the parts that made up the whole in magic shows, burlesque, and comedy and improv performances, but if you want to see it all in one go, you may have to travel for it.

Where Can I Watch A Performance?

Suppose you want to travel, New York, Los Angeles, and most large cities. If you can't find one specifically called vaudeville, consider seeking out 'variety shows' instead. If you want to throw a vaudeville party, it's still possible, though! Instead, consider hiring burlesque performers like Vixen Deville and finding musicians, comedians, and improv professionals. As long as you're clear with the performers that it's a one-night gig and you pay them fairly, you can create a show unlike anything else.

Although vaudeville is mainly gone, you can still find elements of it everywhere in modern life. The show Saturday Night Live is the closest you can get to real vaudeville, even though it may seem entirely modern.

Every once in a while, it's essential to take a break from the stress and anxiety of your everyday life and take a vacation. Museums Provide an Effective Way of Learning

If you have kids and a family, it might be a drag to get them to go to a museum when they are enjoying their vacation, but seeing how museums are a great source of information to learn from, you should make an effort to get them down there.
When people hear museums, they think one of two things, the movie Night at the Museum, or somewhere that is boring. But, museums use first-hand pictures and documents to inspire Learning, which appeals to a lot more people than the conventional classroom method. Many people learn more effectively when experiencing something first hand, and who knows, you may even really enjoy it.

Captivate your interest

Not every single Museum and every single subject will captivate your interest, and that is ok. If you go to a museum and you and your family are just really bored and want to leave, then go left. It is fair to not be interested in something, but it is not acceptable to give up after a short search.
Find something that you are interested in and go to a museum that commemorates a historical event surrounded by that particular subject. Museums should captivate your interest, not make you hate an entire experience.

Help Make the Community a Better Place

When vacationing somewhere, you want to help support the community where you are at, and museums are nonprofit organizations where all funds help the community become a better place. So going and supporting a good cause is always the right thing to do.
Discovering new places, cultures, and ideas is what traveling is all about, and even when you are on vacation, you should make it a priority to become more educated. The more educated you are, the more doors could open up for you in the future, and having an education in the culture of where you are can help you better connect and understand the people around you.
Even though your main priority for vacationing is having a good time and getting away from all the stress associated with your everyday life, you should still make an effort to become more educated. One of the easiest ways to do this is by visiting museums.

Why You Should Learn about Different Cultures Although we're just one species, the variances across human beings are incredible and awe-inspiring. There are many variances from people who make their homes in the driest and hottest parts of the world to those living in tiny apartments in skyscrapers. Unfortunately, if we're comfortable with where we are in life and don't travel often, we may underestimate the importance of getting to know people who aren't like ourselves. Here are the top reasons you should get to see the world outside of your bubble and how you can do it!

Grow Your Tastes
There's no set age where everyone becomes glued to their current tastes, but for many, it feels like our mid-thirties locks it in. We know what most of our favorites are, and we're often in a little bit of a rut by then. Take a break from looking at Banff houses for sale, and enjoy getting to know new things and experiences. Traveling to Japan may help you realize your favorite candy on earth is honeydew flavored taffy. At the same time, a trip to Mexico could open your tastebuds up to a range of sour and spice you never considered before. You can still experience these without traveling! Reflect on Yourself
There’s a truth in the idea that seeing something reflected can help us see the original item better. By getting to know other cultures through study and travel, you can also get to know yourself. Maybe you’ll feel more open to reflection after learning about astral projection and meditation in India, or you could take up a passion for gator wrestling from reading about parts of Florida. By reading up on these cultures and getting to know the people who live in them, you can get to know the details of yourself you didn't expect.

Understand The World Better
Nothing will help you understand the world as a whole and take the time to study cultures and ideas different from your own. Making friends in K-Pop communities can help you know the fashion and culture of South Korea, which is something you might not have experienced otherwise. Studying other cultures will allow you to broaden your horizons and viewpoints. Don't stick to what you learned ten or thirty years ago in school. Please get to know the world for yourself, and be excited to take part in it. If you're ever unsure, or you notice personal biases affecting you, take a step back and focus on food or art for a while.

Learning Keeps Us Young
Although we may think that we're supposed to know everything by the time we hit thirty, that's not possible! There's so much to learn and see in our world, and unfortunately, most of us don’t have a sizable enough budget to travel whenever and wherever we want. Take advantage of the time you get to spend traveling, and learn as much as possible. Take an interest in what people eat, why they eat what they do, and try to learn about the music and nightlife cultures. You'll feel younger, and have fun traveling.

How 2 Make Soft Chewy French Bread Recipe

Don't stress out if you don't have bread on hand. Making French bread is very easy.

See the ingredients below? 4 simple items you might already have on hand.

3 cups (361g) Bread Flour
1 teaspoon (6g) salt
1/4 teaspoon instant yeast
1 cup (227g) lukewarm water

I am not much of a baker, but I do not mind making French bread since my kids love it so much. The other reason is that French bread is hard to keep soft, so check out the 10 Tips on How to Keep French Bread Soft. Always fresh and always on hand with homemade and no more throwing away hard bread.

The dough:

In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients and mix well. Stir in the water and incorporate until flour and water become a sticky mixture. Cover with saran wrap and let it sit for one hour. After one hour, lift the dough and fold it over onto itself six times, then cover and let the dough rest one more hour, repeat the same folding method as the first time.

This process is similar to making Pretzels, see the photos of the flour mixture in my post Soft Pretzel Recipe.

After the second time, cover the dough with saran wrap and place it in the refrigerator overnight.

Shaping and prepping the dough the next morning:

1. Prep the working surface with flour or lightly oil the working surface.

2. Before removing the dough from the bowl, lightly dust the top surface of the dough with flour or oil.

3. Remove the dough from the bowl and fold the dough over onto itself six times.

4. Divide the dough into 3 portions for regular-sized loaves.

5. Spread each portion out into a rough rectangle and roll the dough lightly into a long log.

6. Take the two ends of each loaf and tuck under slightly.

7. Place on a bread tray or a lightly greased cookie sheet.

8. Place in a warm spot and let it rest for one hour or until the dough has risen double.

9. Once the dough has risen double, spray a sharp knife with cooking spray and slice 3 diagonal cuts into the tops of each loaf, about 1/2 inch deep.

10. Optional: brush loaves with a beaten egg, making sure to get every single spot.

11. Preheat oven to 480 degrees.

12. Have a roasting pan ready, boil water when the oven almost reaches 480. Pour boiling water into the roasting pan and place the roasting pan with water in the oven on a lower rack below the bread baking rack.

13. Place the bread tray into the oven and lightly mist it with water.

14. Turn down the oven to 450. Bake undisturbed for 10 full minutes.

15. Open the oven and spray the top of the bread with water.

16. Then again at the next five minutes, open the oven and spray the bread with water.

17. Watch the bread at this point to see that it goldens. All ovens are different so just air on a nice golden outer and 20 minutes max. Once 20 minutes have been reached, you can turn off the oven and if needed leave the bread in there until it golden if it hasn't already.

Can I Love Someone?

I had once felt a little jerk at the heart when I was in a gap-filling relationship with this arrogant someone. While we were driving in his car one fine day, a song called 'Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" came on the radio, he sang it as if he was trying to tell me something. I truly was naive and didn't really think that he was looking for someone to settle with, since I certainly wasn't. Yet, it still made me wonder and bothered me a bit - most probably pride and nothing more. I shrugged it off as 'whatever dude' and felt if I could of, I would have jumped out immediately.
Now I know that it is hella impossible to find what you're looking for when that person you want is probably yourself, as you are the only person who can understand how you feel. And sometimes that's not even possible.
What little number of relationships I've had, I felt that they've loved themselves much more than they loved me. I think for a very short time frame they did love me just a tad more, but it never stayed that way for long. They were all insufficient in some ways, and they did not deserve my love - even the person that thought I didn't deserve them - had no idea - he'd made the wrong choice.
You see, this tough cover, the facade usually made some males describe me as a player, a spoiled person, a materialistic Madona, a female that would make mother inlaws cry for her sons. But the sad truth is, I, unfortunately, am not that fortunate to be mindless, thankless, or heedless. I am actually, too responsible, extremely resourceful, and idiotically faithful. Independently naive, I do not like to pry, and certainly wouldn't ask questions that most people would. I trust my mates until there's a reason to make me not to. I rather take on the burden so that my other half doesn't have to, I rather am the one taking accountability so that I can ensure things are thought out to the finest details. I do not mind putting myself on the line to be judged, to be dealt with if it meant that my actions helped shield the person I love from unnecessary pain.
I have not encountered this reciprocity. I can recall only a father's love is that deep - so deep, and so giving. At least my father's. The pain in his eyes when he can't get me to understand that what I am doing is wrong. In one incident on a morning in Michigan when he didn't approve of me looking that certain way. 'He said: "go wash your face." gently. And I knew that he didn't like that I was wearing makeup. But worse yet, I think I didn't even know how to put it on, so I must have looked like a clown. So not only he had to look at a very young daughter with scribbles of foundation on her face, but he was now very worried about what I would become. Now - I understand that when I tried to look pretty with makeup, that was the day he felt so hurt and afraid for me. Now I know growing up and wanting things too fast got me nowhere good. I wished I understood, why and what he wanted so that could have remained sheltered and protected. Why didn't he explain his reasons for not approving?
I have a daughter, I try to explain to her my worries, and the reasons why I don't want certain things for her. I hope what I say is enough for her to realize that my guidance has the best intentions and it will help steer her in a better direction and journey. Nothing is more important to me than her success. Can I love someone? I am pretty sure that if I love someone, they would be extremely lucky. That I would take it all if I could. I would try to do my best so that they can feel loved and pampered.

Cheap Ways to Make Your House Smell Good

Sometimes I forget that I already have a lot of the ingredients in my house to create fragrance, good smell and deodorizers for the home. To think about it, most of the essential oils use and are made from peppermint, rosemary, cinnamon, lemon, orange, etc.

All these ingredients can be found in our kitchens, gardens, or cupboards - at least mine.
While having a text conversation with my family today, I realized, since I am stuck at home anyways, I might as well try more recipes and see how they turn out. I've scouted through the internet and found some recipes with ingredients that I know I have.
Below are the six that I found with very simple ingredients that you might like to try yourself. I am starting today.

You're Exaggerating! Understanding Hyperbole

When you think of literature, it is difficult to not think of the various forms of figures of speech. Literary devices of this nature appear at a moment’s notice and can catch the reader or viewer by surprise. Figures of speech add another dimension to an author or director’s vision. Hyperbole is an example that involves exaggerating for the sake of making an evident impression on the audience. Children and adults alike love to exaggerate when a particular moment calls for it. Magnifying the ordinary develops the ability to perceive the extraordinary. Stretching one’s mind with the use of hyperbole is an excellent way to think outside of the box. When examining the etymology of hyperbole, this word comes from the true meaning of excess.

Exaggerating for a Comedic Effect

Height is a common way to exhibit the use of hyperbole. The next time you see a tall individual that you know, tell them they are taller than the Burj Khalifa. The Burg Khalifa is the tallest building and stands at roughly two thousand seven hundred and seventeen feet tall. Your exceptionally tall friend is probably shorter than seven feet tall. This outlandish comparison may make them laugh because they understand they are taller than most, but certainly nowhere near the height of a building. While this form of hyperbole applies to shorter individuals too, it is ill-advised since that circumstance is a bit more sensitive. However, if they are open-minded, let them know they are smaller than a fairyfly. Once they look that up, they will realize it is the smallest insect known to man.

Exaggerating Sounds

You may have experienced a sound so loud that it felt like every soldier to ever exist fired a round at the same time. As the rounds released from those barrels, thirteen thousand lightning bolts struck simultaneously and created an unexplainable amount of thunder. Directly after that, you may have heard a sound so quiet that only an ant colony could have heard it. Hyperbole is an amusing literary device to use. Depending on your imagination, you may be able to exaggerate far more than the previous examples. The next time you hear an incredibly loud sound, let those closest to you know that it resembled ten earthquakes happening at the same time.

Exaggerating Smells

There are certain things in this world which smell amazing and others less so. You may have smelled something so amazing that it made you feel like you were levitating. Conversely, an awful smell could have given you a facial expression only reserved for Oscar the Grouch. Either way, these extreme experiences enhanced or detracted from your well-being. The use of hyperbole in these instances can take what is already exceptional and break through the glass ceiling.
Hyperbole is a literary device used by many of the most celebrated authors spanning any period. Exaggerations can certainly be misplaced depending on the seriousness of an event. However, they can also brighten one’s mood during sadder times. The next time something extraordinary happens in your life, try using hyperbole to take it to the next level.

Dear friends and readers,

I was thinking back to the beginning of this blog when I first started publishing. It's amazing that it's been 9 years since November 2009! Where did the time go? What happened in those years? I only wish I could retell the good times and bad times like a marathon video clip, or a continuous movie, drama based on real-life. But I can't even figure out where to begin, as I am too busy having fun! Too busy living and building more content to share one day.

I was inspired to create a mosaic with my favorite White Flowers in Vases clipped from online. I remember when I was actively blogging, I used to participate in memes, like Mosaic Monday. I was never good at being consistent, the every week thing - is just too much sameness for me. I live for changes.

Beyond Wandering is very good at being consistent, she is so good at being on time every week and meeting those steady events. I don't know how I manage to stay in marriages and meeting the daily requirements all these years - but I do. And that's probably why I don't have many traditions in my family.

Golconda Fort in Andhra Pradesh is a magnificent building that once protected an ancient city in an area famous for its diamond mines. Majzoob prevented Aurangzeb from invading the passage for a long time. Aurangzeb was able to attack the fort only when another officer in the Mughal armed force made Majzoob move from that position.

A clap at a fixed point near the entrance can be heard evidently at the ‘Bala Hissar’ pavilion. Bala Hissar is the highest point of the fort. This clap served two purposes –as a warning if an intruder got in and as a way for the royal family to know that they have guests. There are some more architectural and acoustic marvels in the Golconda Fort, for example, whispers at certain corners of the halls which can be heard distinctly in the opposite corner.

It has been believed that Rama Das, a revenue official was imprisoned by Abul Hasan Tanah Shah, for misusing state funds to construct the Badrachalam Sri Rama Temple as well as carve pictures of Rama, Lakshman and Hanuman on a rock surface in the cell. It has further been believed that that Lord Rama appeared in Tanah Shah’s dreams and paid back the debt to get Rama Dasu released.

The Sri Jagadamba Maha temple located on top of the Golconda Fort is as famous as the fort itself. Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah, who was the king, was immensely popular among his subjects that he was named Malkabhiram by Hindus.

Most of us remember those days when PowerPoint presentations were just a visual form of a report — dry, full of numbers, tables and standard pictures from MS Office storage. Nowadays if you decide to follow that trend, your audience, be it a thesis committee or a bunch of potential investors, would be less than uninspired. However, unfortunately, even those who understand how it shouldn’t be done, often can’t avoid all pitfalls. Here we have gathered several principles which you should follow in order to come up with a stellar presentation.

Principle #1. Define a goal in one sentence

Your goal is not to make a good presentation, your goal is not even to make the best presentation in history. Your goal is to achieve something with this tool, and you should define and write down what exactly you want to achieve. Phrase it in a precise manner, in one short sentence.

Principle #2. One slide — one thought

It is very difficult to choose only one thought from several pages of your report or thesis paper, but you should try your best. One slide should give only one idea, and preferably it should be presented in a concise form. It will allow you to avoid confusion and the audience won’t get bored. More of it, such approach gives a rhythm to your presentation.

You might use your logo in the corner, but don’t put a running head with the name of the presentation, your name, contacts or some quotes on each slide. It looks untidy and distracts attention from what is really important.

50% of speakers don’t create a final slide, 40% write “Thank you for your attention” on it. Your task is to get in the remained 10% and create an engaging final slide which your audience won’t forget. It might be funny, it might be serious, but it should be there, and it should be original. You can use a gif-image, a quote, more creative thank you note, etc. It also might be beneficial to state your contacts there, so your listeners can take a picture and have them on their phones just in case.
Remember, your presentation tells much more about you than the things you vocalize during a slideshow. Your audience can see whether you are diligent or not, how much you care about the details, assess the integrity of your approach and, finally, your taste. Flirty Pink Dreams - Beautiful Flowers

During our Santa Cruz trip, we stopped at a restaurant to have lunch before heading to the beach. I found these Flirty Pink Dreams outside of the restaurant along the curbs. I do not know the real name of these beauties, but I called them Flirty Pink Dreams because they fluttered in the breeze as if they were daring, flirting with someone to come closer, thus Flirty. Pink because they have the most naturally vibrant pink color I've ever seen on a flower. Dreams because they have whiskers that make them fragile and whimsical. Also because only in dreams would I be able to imagine such combinations.

Compared to roses they are not as showy and most people would have walked by without noticing them, but when they are captured up-close, they are anything but ordinary.

Flirty Pink Dreams reminded me of the dreams I had when I really dream about nothing at all. Have you ever had those types of dreams? In these dreams I usually see soft large cloths, or canopies floating in the air, and beautiful flowers dancing everywhere. The scenes are very much like in the movie Hero and I would feel as if it isn’t ever going to end. Luckily, I don’t have those dreams often and prefer to have dreams about people and places I know and love.
