Mashable reports about an app can that make this time consuming process a little easier. The app is called Klik and is developed by Facial Recognition company, Face.com. The app is available for the iPhone at the moment and has recently come  out its beta stage.

The way the app works is quite simple and painless. Install the app and before you click a snap of your friends, the app immediately recognizes the people in the photo with the data it collects from your Facebook profile. You will have to connect the app to your Facebook account for this feature. We all know that even though Facial Recognition technology might have improved by leaps and bounds, there are some limitations and sometimes the tags might come out wrong. The app lets you correct the errors it might make by letting you change the info and tag the right person if the app screws up. The algorithm that the app uses is progressive and it learns over time. Thus, the more you use it, the less likely it is to be wrong. The Facebook Connect for the app might take upto one whole day to get into place. The app can also connect with Twitter.

Once you have clicked the photos and tagged the people in them, the app further allows you to add some specialized filters. Instagram has made photo filters cool and every other photo app now has a filter option. You can then post the photos from the app to Facebook and Twitter. The app is similar to Instagram in the fact that it has its own social networking capability running in the background. You can view the photos that your friends post via this app and also check out their location data.

This was fairly accurate.

 The app is not 100% accurate in detecting Facebook friends but is a decent effort on the part of the developers. You can download it here.

When inventors try to develop their inventions for commercial deployment, they may not be entertained by venture capitalists. Though the scenario is changing rapidly now-a-days, Kickstarter not only manages to push the idea into a project stage, but through social media integration urges everyday people to contribute to the same.

In order to make his wristwatches that could communicate with the iPhone into a viable project, Eric Migicovsky approached Kickstarter & within 2 hours had managed to hit the initial goal of US$ 100,000 as seed money!

Though this may seem trivial in comparison to what VC firms are pumping in, Kickstarter has managed to turn social media into a group funding source. Reassuringly, with 12 days to go, Eric’s dream had garnered 8.8 Million dollars! Such serious sums are usually the norm for second round of funding.

Interestingly, Kickstarter also has a plethora of public-funded movies being featured at the Tribeca film fest. Some of the other off-beat projects include funny toilet-paper, edible & biodegradable vegan party-cups.

As much as the web-driven interface altered the face of online e-commerce, Kickstarter has managed to “offer budding entrepreneurs a way to float ideas and see if there’s a market for them before they trade ownership of their company for money from venture capitalists” say the founders.

So far Kickstarter has managed to raise more than $200 million for 20,000 projects. This translates to a success rate for over 44% of projects posted on Kickstarter.

What do backers of the project get in return? Common-folk who contribute their money are often rewarded with insider access to the projects they finance. However, more often, project owners agree to send first pieces of finished products to the donors.

How does Kickstarter make money? Interestingly, posting a product is free. However, if the same manages to get funding, Kickstarter gets 5% of the final amount.

There is a huge difference between a Project and a Product strong enough to sustain a full-fledged business. Kickstarter has managed to find an innovative bridge between the two for financially challenged geniuses!

We have had quite a lot of drama since last year regarding Censorship and Objectionable Content. This time it is the IT Act of 2011, which has everyone in the Indian Internet Industry unanimously denouncing  it for its negligence of the fundamental rights provided by the Indian Constitution.

The Act  have been questioned by a lone ‘Communist’ Member of Parliament, P.Rajeev. He has suggested that the Government consider the annulment of the ‘offending’ additions. The IT Act is really detrimental as it makes it very easy for any person to initiate the blocking of a website if it seen to be offensive, harmful, defamatory, obscene, hateful and generally objectionable. There is a high possibility that such complaints will not be objective enough and will result in a lot of needless website blocks. The fact that the laws are so vague can only mean two things – Either the Government does not understand the Internet or the Government wants to make things really difficult for everyone and hence impose a censorship framework like China.

Numerous organizations have come out with their support for P.Rajeev and have started a movement of protest against the said rules. The Centre of Internet and Society has a page on their website which asks you to sign a petition against the Act. This will then be sent to the relevant authorities. One of the popular Indian Blogging network has also joined the movement . ZDnet points out other resources so that you can be informed of the movement and educate yourself about the Act and why it is detrimental to public interest.
