Get notifications in real-time as products are removed from your site so you can 301 redirect the URLs in case other sites were linking into those product pages. NOTE: Products can come and go at any time, while categories tend to stick around longer, if not indefinitely. What happens when you redirect the product that you redirected the first one to? Keep it simple. Redirect to categories and avoid multiple 301 hops.

And, I don’t think there’s any debate that keyword data is becoming a proprietary commodity for businesses who advertise online. As such, I think it makes a lot of sense to invest in building out a keyword list complete with actual data about how many times people will actually visit your site if you bid X, and about how many times people will convert (and at what price!) if you advertise against a given keyword.

Congratulations to our winner! Here’s a choice bit from the winning post:

So, does Google consider a DBA “Assumed Name” to be your “full legal name”? It’s going to have to, in my opinion. Google doesn’t want a local Chinese Restaurant such as “Hunan Restaurant” to have to change it’s Google Map Listing to “Wai Chong Enterprises,” for example. So…if you owned a fly-fishing store, but your legal name is “Jones and Associates” Restaurant Assumed Name Localyou would want to head out and file for an “assumed name” such as “Memphis Fly Fishing Supplies, Inc.” – as long as you complete the required filings, you have probably met Google’s new requirements for “full legal name” and can claim your listing.

We will talk about referring domain data below but first you will want to pay attention to some things like what time of day the piece “went viral” or what day it did? How long did it take to reach critical mass on the social sites? How many Diggs, Thumbs Up/Reviews, Tweets/RT’s? Every piece is going to be different but it can help you plan and execute later if you know all of this. I know some people that only launch on Tuesdays or only start the process at a certain time of day. I like to plan things for Tues-Thurs and so they are aimed to reach critical mass for mid day. You need to find what works for you.

Congratulations to our winner! Here’s a choice bit from the winning post:

The truth is, many businesses have heard about reputation management, but few of them are doing it proactively. In most cases, they’re probably reacting to situations like the one I described above. This is a bad situation to be in. If the negative result is already out there and being propagated, responding to it in a reactive way is like damage control. The damage has already been done, and all you can hope for is to limit the amount of damage done.

Congratulations to our winner! Here’s a choice bit from the winning post:

4. Buy Directory Links. It gets a bit complicated here. At $299, the Yahoo Directory is steep for someone on a budget, but it’s a trusted link. Ezilon is another solid directory that costs either $69/year or a $199 single payment. BOTW.org is either $100/year or a $250 one-time payment. Choosing the best directories is another article altogether, but I’m basically going to analyze the pages where my link would appear, see which ones offer the strongest links, and submit there. To make things easy for this article, let’s choose Yahoo as the best link and the one we can afford.
