The Assembly Higher Education Committee recently considered legislation (A-3245) that would institute sweeping changes based on recommendations from a State Commission of Investigation (SCI) entitled “Higher Education: Vulnerable to Abuse.” Regrettably, reform is being sought through unsuitable means, as often happens in Trenton, by enlarging the government bureaucracy and expanding the power of a state authority to borrow without voter approval. This compelled Assemblyman Rumpf, who serves on the Committee, to vote against A-3245 being released despite several promising elements contained within the bill.
