Lethargic blog but it is still alive. I am accessing this in our pantry in the office due to lack of internet connection. I will be posting old interviews of several bands that I did not include in RTC #8. A lot of positive things happened in our local DIY hardcore punk scene that deserves to be covered in printed matter. Be on the lookout aight. As a result of killing time inside the office I came upon this blog which the content is really out of my comfort zone however it is a good read. He was the one responsible for fanzines Sex Before Suicide and Neons. With his permission I will photocopy issue #1 of Neons for local consumption but I have to save some money first. Ahhh, Gunshot Wounds a newly formed band that I am screaming with. This one granted my wish to be on a fast band trying hard to imitate the aesthetic of Spazz, and Charles Bronson. We do have Omel of the mighty Sister Bastard on bass also being the main songwriter that said we are tight on this powerviolence trip. Hell, yeah. We do a have a demo coming out god knows when due to my indolence. We manage to play live once when Rogernomiks visited us here in the Philippines. Despite the good looking of our drummer Wilmer he doesn't like to have a band photo so here is our rip off logo.

I still have the memories when they played live in Makati. Totally mind blowing set you will grasp their passion having this kind of music. I was astonished how talented they are. Blackened crust another mess for subgenre albeit I don't have any issues with it. I am planning to do an interview with them to be featured in Real Tight Crew. Let's see. This album helped a lot to uplift my bleak order even if the premise of the lyrics falls into apocalyptic visions. It encourage me not to dwell. Appalling as well to myself that I am posting again here in Any Last Word. Just bear with my incoherent ranting in here.

LOW PLACES " Spiritual Treatment" LP

Ah, it's more than a year now since I bother myself to post anything here in Any Last Word. There are a lot of things happened during the course of 2015 and present time this year of 2016. Mostly it is all dismal which consumed me on a vast remark where I became cynical and melancholic at the same time. But still there are real friends, and family who will help you to get on your own feet to survive being desolated. I am in an environment where the distinction of real and fake is vague. Enemies become friends. Friends become enemies. On the flipside there is music to mend my feelings and to clear my thoughts. This LP of Low Places is very fitting to my current condition. I am shocked that there are someone randomly checking this blog. I hope I will get the enough enthusiasm to post again here in my blog. This will be the start.

ONE KING DOWN "Gravity Wins Again" 7"

It's been a while since I posted something in Any Last Word. Perhaps blogging isn't popular anymore within the confines of DIY hardcore punk scene. The vast reasons for minimal post are work and indolence. Anxiety kicks in due to that I am just showing off in here. That said it is inevitable to post this piece of wax because this was given to me by Nic of EOT who is now currently working in a country where there's a lot of sand. Nic is one of the mad vinyl enthusiast in our DIY scene. Word is he even spent a payout for a one time vinyl digging. Now that is a statement. I was overwhelmed when Nic gave me this 7" by One King Down. To top it all this was released by Equal Vision Records. He knows I am into this kind of genre. Metallic hardcore at it's best even if this was released last 2000. Way before metal core became a novelty comedy show. For me the emotions coming from the vocals then the aggression of the sound were spontaneously done. I can't remember where I first heard One King Down all I know is that they were good. I don't have any idea if all the members are sxe because the music they are playing are popular amongst sxe kids. It is a relief that the chosen topic of the songs doesn't fall on the cheesy sxe bravado. Instead the lyrics are all on the personal account of the screamer which I can relate to some of it. Sometimes it is vague but it doesn't matter it is not everything should be crystal clear. That's all for now. There a lot of stuffs to be posted in here. It all depends to my laziness. I am impressed it's really easy for me to write something when I am sober. Gosh. Friends will cringe on this one because they know what I am talking when I say "sober."

NATURAL BORN KILLERS AND SUMMER OF SAM

The integral part of these films is violence most especially on the part of Natural Born Killers. And still both are highly appreciated by all people in the local DIY hardcore punk scene. VHS was the big deal when I and my brother watched these. I also remember the reaction of my uncle's friend when they visited us here in Marulas A. My father played Natural Born Killers (this time on a shitty VCD format) while the aforementioned friend and my uncle were chatting at the same time drinking then subsequently asking my father "what the hell is this movie we are watching it's morbid and violent." It just shows that my father have a nasty sense of humor when it comes to his visitors. Familiar names that includes in the NBK soundtrack are L7, Tha Dogg Pound, Bob Dylan, Cowboy Junkies, and Leonard Cohen all were hand picked by Oliver Stone. On the SOS soundtrack we have Marvin Gaye, Abba, and The Who those are the several names that I know the rest are not known to me however I do like what I am listening most especially on the part of First Choice.

Two months have passed since my last post on this god damn blogspot. Hopefully the long delayed issue eighth of Real Tight Crew will be out on November. A lot of good things happened in our DIY hardcore punk scene. Kinda overwhelming but it's all good vibes. There's a lot more to come even if 2014 is nearly closing its curtain. Drama and frustrations are inevitable however I find ways to rectify it. If not all a part of it will be covered and tackled on the upcoming issue of Real Tight Crew. This photo is apt to my indolence. You be the judge.

MERCURY DRUGZ #2

Look what I found in my email a one or two pager [to technically inclined please correct me if I am wrong] newsletter from Dubai. Nostalgia comes to mind because newsletter was really a big thing during the late local 90's hardcore punk scene. Get In Touch [when they first started], Punk Out Hard, and Keep Da Faith comes to my mind. I forgot what was the name of the newsletter Mic put out during that time and it was offset printed which amazed me when I first got a copy. It will be really cool if I will get a hold a physical copy. Shockingly Real Tight Crew got a piece of publicity in here. That's great. DEEP WOUND 7"

I am indebted to OG Jep P. for this vinyl. We all know that J. Mascis and Lou Barlow was in Deep Wound before Dinosaur Jr. If not for Emman (Delusion Of Terror) I wouldn't get any idea whatsoever for this information. The music in here is menacing in all entirety of the vinyl. To top it all it was recorded on 1983 however the sound is so refreshing and agitating. It is inevitable not to take notice of how J hitting those drums it upholds his arrogance towards other drummers. Lou's shrieking guitar riffs suggest a Discharge influences here and there. This is old but a broad blue print to all of their contemporary.

MARK MCCOY

Misanthropic words coming from Mark McCoy of Charles Bronson and tons of other great bands. I look up to him since the first time I've heard his incoherent shrieking screams in the discography CD of Charles Bronson and for everything he said on that are all right and spot on. I look up to him like everybody does with Ian MacKaye and Ray Cappo. Now that varies a lot. Confuse? I don't care. Anyway I found out he has a Tumblr where he posts a lot of interesting stuffs. After discovering this old fanzine I successfully tried to mimic the visual mastery of his layout. The result will be seen on the upcoming eighth issue of Real Tight Crew. What can I say I am a layout freak. How I wish I can obtain all those tapes. Wishful thinking eh.

Indie rock, Seattle scene, Nirvana, hardcore punk, vinyl, cassette tape, family oriented, rebellion, teenage angst, sexuality, individualism, friendship, heartache etc.These are the contents and topic of this book. A heartfelt story that I can relate a lot. Good read. Irvine Welsh was also impressed by this you can't go wrong with that.

"I'd learned from my first experience that the singer was not necessarily the most talented individual in the band even though he was assumed to be the leader." That quote stuck with me since I am a vocalist myself I couldn't agree more.

FOUND MY DIRECTION "Before Their Time" 7"

Maybe a single post for the month of April. I am anticipating the release of the classic cdr of Feud "For The Sake of Unity" on vinyl with varied colors to boot. Maybe that will be the first time I will buy all version of a the same record.Speaking of which I am posting this vinyl by this Australian youthcrew hardcore Found My Direction. The same formula has been used by this old band i.e. stop and start parts, sing along back up vocals, and melodic fast pace guitar riffs inviting finger pointing in the air. The message is more on social issues that happens to our daily grind taking all of it on a positive viewpoint. Australian hardcore punk is a force to be reckoned with. That said this coming May Scab Eater will visit our bleak country to give us a taste of what it is like. I am speaking in general in here. I am not saying Scab Eater is a youthcrew band I haven't heard of them and having the chance to know them playing live will be a marvelous experience.

PEACEFUL PROTEST 7"

Trip down on memory lane. I am reminiscing. 1997 and I was 17 years old back then. My favorite band was Nirvana, Metallica, Guns N Roses. Yuck. Just kidding. My uncle took me with him to watch Peaceful Protest play live in Manila specifically at Yosh Cafe in Pasay. Pasay home of the local death metal bands. My first taste to a DIY punk gig. I was scared watching the violent mosh pit. Some punk did a back flip stage dive. I was amazed and afraid at the same time. I've also got the chance to watch Alcoholocaust, Moral Rot, C.O.R., Lie Detector, and Disabuse. An initial taste of what crust sounds like. Alcoholocaust did their street punk thing. This is where I first bought my first copy of Verbal Offense directly from Darwin. Me and Jerry Rich had a chance meeting in Cartimar last February had a bit of conversation about how the Japanese was heavily influenced by Swedish and Finnish hardcore that they've invented their own sound most especially on the drumming part. According to Jerry it is like they've created their own world around that rhythm section. I couldn't agree more. Now this one sided 45rpm record by Peaceful Protest is a certified documentation of that vignette given by Jerry Rich. This is what we call Japcore and that is why Americans go berserk with the Japanese hardcore punk. Ridicirus War! Ridicirus War! How can you beat that. After that gig here I am now I am still in love with hardcore punk and nothing is wrong with that. No excuse for the dropouts.

Their set last Saturday was excellent as I already anticipated it. The Japanese have a weird connection to me. Like for example the first gig that I've attended in Yosh Cafe Peaceful Protest played in there where I got the idea of what Japcore sounds like. Deathwish Unit was fortunate to play our debut gig when Vivisick visited our country. Likewise with You Need Fear this time with Sete Star Sept. Good times on the after hour party in Jamie's place. Shout out to Nicol, Tating, and Yan-Yan.

Since I do own a Charles Bronson discography CD my powerviolence credibility will not be questioned anymore. Now that I have this s/t 10" of Sea Of Shit no one will dare to dispute my candor to this sub-genre of hardcore punk. If any will do that all I can say is "the nerve". Oh and by the way to get geek on this one I only play this in my turntable for a total of one spin both sides. Damn. I also know several people who owns this and that's how we roll. Seriously you should watch this. This is highly recommended. There is still hope for our local movies because of this. On The Job renders all the lousy local action film that the industry choke us on. They should continue this kind of quality movie. All of the actors share their own excellence. Also a huge improvement when it comes to the screenplay. There are some minor cheesy part however it is inevitable. For once in a while let's avoid our colonial mentality. Not all American made is good.
