ACF Video Public Performance License Now Includes Disney

Seneca's Audio Cine-Films (ACF) public performance rights license now includes:

Walt Disney Pictures
Pixar Animated Studios
Touchstone Pictures
Hollywood Pictures
Buena Vista Pictures

Why is a feature film license necessary to show a film in the classroom?

Canadian copyright legislation requires all videos and DVDs screened in the classroom to be licensed for public performance. Our institutional license allows for all educational uses of feature films at Seneca College. Videos and DVDs in the Seneca library collection are all licensed for public performance.

To take advantage of the ACF license simply report all screenings (whether you or your students are showing the entire film or just selected scenes). You may use our Feature Film Reporting Form or contact Maryon Egerton-Jones at ext. 2145.

Faith in Film Lunch Series at Newnham

Lawsource Email Problems Have Been Resolved

WestlaweCARSWELL was experiencing a problem with emailing case law documents:

1) when you attempt to e-mail a case law document it may appear that there is no error but the document is not delivered;

2) email notification of results for case law searches may not be delivered.

The problem has been resolved.

Research Library Database Discontinued

Access to ProQuest’s Research Library database will be terminated on November 30th, 2007. As a result, Research Library email publishing “alerts” and online links to sources in the database will expire at the same time. Links in course resource pages need to be reviewed with this in mind.

Seneca@York - Freedom Toaster Dispenses Open Source Software

The Freedom Toaster has taken up residency in the Seneca@York Library and Computing Commons. The product of a student project, the Freedom Toaster burns open source software to your own CDs, quickly and free of charge. All the software is reviewed regularly, updated and is pre-loaded into the Freedom Toaster’s hard drive. The kiosk addresses the fact that many students have shied away from downloading Open Source software because of the time it takes, and the difficulty of getting reliable and complete programs that are easy to install and upgrade. Bring a cd, pick the software you want using the touch screen, and viola! you're ready to join the open source movement.

The Sustainable City IV: Urban Regeneration and Sustainability

Seneca Libraries are pleased to announce the addition of The Sustainable City IV: Urban Regeneration and Sustainability to the Newnham Library collection.

This compilation of proceedings from the 4th International Conference on Urban Regeneration and Sustainability in Tallinn, Estonia includes two papers from Seneca Faculty who were in attendance.

Bill Humber's paper, The Neighbourhood Imperative in the Sustainable City, deals with definitions and forms of the modern neighbourhood, challenges faced by neighbourhoods, and the potential for neighbourhoods to be a place where urban sustainability initiatives develop and new forms of economic, technological, infrastructural, and social renewal result.

Roy Paluoja's Life Cycle Guarantors of Sustainability speaks of the significant role technologists, technicians, and tradespeople play in the life cycle of urban and building systems, and the role of the college system in producing this skilled workforce.

Book online if you want a group study room at S@Y Library. Log onto the library's website to reserve a room https://www.senecac.on.ca/roombooking/index.html.

MAXIMUM OF: 2 hours per group per day - NO EXCEPTIONS

Each group has 10 minutes to arrive for their booking, after which the room becomes available to others.

Sorry no singles! For QUIET GROUP STUDY - minimum of 2 students per room.

Study rooms can only be booked up to 7 days in advance from the booking date.

Food and drinks are not permitted in the library, including the study rooms. You'll be required to leave the library immediately if you have food or drinks.

A reminder to all students: Course Textbooks in the Library

The Seneca Libraries carry one copy of most course textbooks. These textbooks are intended for quick reference and therefore cannot leave the library at any time. This policy will be enforced throughout the semester. For open book tests and exams, students are expected to bring with them their own copy of the textbook.

EnviroNetBase, an online research tool from CRC Press, is now available from Seneca Libraries.
EnviroNetBase is a full-text database of research reports and books on a wide range of environmental topics including environmental modelling, risk assessment, chemistry and toxicology, environmental engineering, GIS, remote sensing, and water science, among others.
