Actually you can already see the theme in action on the website of Senlin Hosting Club and on the Demo Sandbox site. The first I have adapted to make it suitable for that specific purpose, but the Sandbox is showing Basejump in its original form.

Fans of Genesis will quickly see that Basejump looks very much like the default Child theme of that premium framework. I actually have tried to work with Genesis, but gave up because to me it is just not a natural way of putting together a website.

The reason that my Basejump theme looks so much alike is because I did and do very much like the structure of how the Genesis default child theme has been set up. So I decided to rip it apart and build my theme to use as a base theme, hence the name Basejump.

Just like it is possible in Genesis to have 5 or 6 different layouts, with Basejump that is also possible. The only difference is that with Basejump it is not set via an options panel and instead uses an ordinary page template. From WordPress version 3.4 these Page Templates will all be neatly placed together in their own folder, because Andrew Nacin just made an announcement about that new feature.

Basejump also comes with up to 6 columns and is a responsive theme. I have included the WP-Cycle plugin by Nathan Rice, and I have also included an adapted version of his plugin for if you are building a multilingual site with WPML. There is more stuff related to WPML included in the theme, for example the language switcher is automatically added to the navigation menu as soon as you turn on WPML.

If you are interested in downloading the theme to start playing around with it, then watch this space; as soon as I have finished the development I will update this post and let you know where it will be available for downloading. This will probably be either Github or from the WordPress Themes directory and you will be able to use the Basejump theme as standalone or as a child theme.

Last month we already moved the Senlin Hosting Club to the servers of this* and the decision to move the Senlin Online came just before the start of the weekend when my emails started bouncing back with the message that (one of) the Bluehost mail servers was listed by Spamcop.

Now, throttling website access is one thing, but if I am no longer able to communicate with my clients via email, then things have to change fast!

When I discovered that Bluehost was listed by Spamcop I immediately sent them an inquiry and it took them well over 36 hours to even respond to that. It seems that Bluehost has grown far too big to be able to offer a professional and trustworthy service.

this* web hosting is a fresh breath of air! You probably notice that the speed of the site is just incredible! On the Senlin Online website we don’t have any caching plugin and looking at current loading times, that won’t be necessary for a while either.

The reason things run so fast on is that this* runs on a LiteSpeed web server, which is up to 6x faster than Apache.

I have had 2 times that I needed to contact the support desk and what is great that the same person that answers your ticket the first time, sticks around until the problem has been resolved. Another advantage is that the support desk is manned by people that can understand English, something I doubt is always the case with other hosting companies.

Probably most noteworthy is that this* doesn’t bullshit you with unlimited diskspace and bandwidth.

Bluehost is “famous” for advertizing with unlimited space/bandwidth and as a reward you will notice that they continuously throttle your domain (click on CPU throttling in your cPanel), their servers go offline all the time, probably due to the sheer overload and now their email servers are getting listed by Spamcop. Easy to give me unlimited space if I cannot do anything with it in the first place, huh?!

this* has 4 different hosting options available starting from USD 2.95 per month for 15GB of monthly bandwidth and a diskspace of 3GB.

On top of all the good things that hopefully make the hosting experience here at this* web host an enjoyable one, I very much like the name!

In order to “catch up” with the solar calendar the Chinese insert an extra month once every few years (seven years out of a 19-yearcycle). This is the same as adding an extra day on leap year. This is why, according to the solar calendar, the Chinese New Year falls on a different date each year. New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion and thanksgiving. The celebration was traditionally highlighted with a religious ceremony given in honor of Heaven and Earth, the gods of the household and the family ancestors. The sacrifice to the ancestors, the most vital of all the rituals, united the living members with those who had passed away. Departed relatives are remembered with great respect because they were responsible for laying the foundations for the fortune and glory of the family.

The Chinese New Year of 2012 will be the Year of the Dragon. Expect this to be a very energetic year, filled with optimism, power and entrepreneurship. However, the year is of water dragon, which means that even the most powerful will give a patient hearing to the weaker, and will try to see through their point of view. Better alliances and decision will take places.
