It can be quite frustrating to go through those long list, waste time in submitting articles only to know that they don’t approve your articles or just ignore articles.

Before submitting article to any new directory first make sure to browse through the articles to check the quality. Then check if the links are dofollow or nofollow. Then proceed with account creation and article submission.

Here is my list of free good quality German article directories. I’ve also listed the not so good German article directories so that you don’t waste your time in testing them.

I’ll keep this list updated as I come across directories and test them by myself before posting here. So keep tuned.

List of free German article directories

Swami Directory – Free German article directory. Account creation is not free, you will have to contact them to request for account creation. It accepts only unique articles. You can add only one link from inside the article. Links are dofollow.

It is .de domain directory and hosted in dedicated IP so it is highly effective in getting top 10 ranking on Google.de.

SEO friendly, you can add meta keywords, description and tags to your articles.

artikel-markt.de - Good one, instant approval. It is not SEO friendly, there is no provision for adding meta keywords and description to the articles.

Another problem with this article directory is that it automatically adds internal links to many keywords from your article.

artikel-total.de – Carbon copy of previous directory. Yet to test it.

List of useless German article directories

Don’t bother about these article directories, I’ve listed them here just to save your time and money. All these directories are tested by myself personally.

Online-artikel.de - I’ve tried this article directory, submitted few articles, waited for weeks but they didn’t approve any of them. So it is a useless directory. don’t bother about it.

While submitting your website to these Norwegian directories you have to be very careful as these directories don’t accept the website if it doesn’t satisfy their terms and conditions. Always read terms and conditions first before submitting to these directories.

If your website is just in Norwegian language and not targeting  Norway then it might not get accepted. Some of these directories only accept Norway based businesses.

Most of them offer free for basic listing. For featured listing you will have to pay a fee. Some of them offer additional advertisement solutions as well. The benefits of submitting your business directories are many. Firstly you get a back link from these reputed directories. Secondly you get traffic. and lastly which is the most important you get leads. People search on these directories to find business and services. On a wild guess I can say that these business directories must be getting at least 100 million visits a month all together. So there is a big opportunity to exploit the traffic to generate leads for you business.

Whether you are one man business, small business or big corporation getting listed in these directories is your first step towards tapping the huge potential of online market.

With my years of search I’ve collected about 100 very good UK business directories which I use regularly to submit my own businesses as well as client’s businesses. Google Places – The monster Google also has a directory called Google places. When you search for any local business related terms on Google then it shows the results from the Google Local on the top.

E.g.

Search for London Restaurants on Google.co.uk and you will see that top SERPs are flooded with results from Google Local.

Adding a business to Google local is free and after some verification they make it live. However getting ranked in top in Google Local result is another ball game all together.

Free Index - I’ve been using Free Index since it started. It has evolved a lot and now offers a lot of features. It also offers clients/customers to review.

Thomson Local – Yellow pages with online presence as well. It takes ages to get listed in it.

Hot Frog – I’m with Hot Frog since it was launched. It used to be a buggy directory in the beginning but in past 5 years it has evolved a lot and now looks better but worse as well thanks to it’s excessive advertisement.  Now more or less it looks like sponsored advertisement link directory than business directory.

Small Business Directory UK – Simple yet very nice directory. Good for link building.

UK Business Directory – Another good directory. You can add your services in addition to just description.

Swami Directory - Internet Directory as well as UK business directory.

Yahoo Local UK – It is a hidden secret. Yahoo maintains a local business directory in the UK. The problem is that it is managed by a media agency. When you submit listing they will call you and push for their own SEO and top ranking services before they can allow listing to go live. I’ll leave it to you to find out how to submit their ;)

DMOZ Sweden
Yes there is a Swedish regional section in DMOZ. However getting accepted in DMOZ is difficult. But worth trying just in case you are lucky.

New but very good Swedish Business Directory. You can submit your Swedish website for free. It also accepts Articles.

I do social bookmarking for fun, for backlinks for traffic and for promotion.

Just to let you know that don’t get excited with Social bookmarking sites for backlinks. Most of these sites are nofollow sites. However having backlinks from these sites are good for top ranking and also they bring traffic if social bookmarking is done properly.

By default all sites mentioned below are nofollow until and unless specified.

Stumbleupon

Stumbleupon is a web discovery portal. I like StumbleUpon a lot. I prefer Stubmleupon over digg as it gets a lot of traffic for popular bookmarks. However you need to be regular user with quality submissions to get good traffic. Just bookmarking will not help.

Digg

Digg is busted. Digg is rigged and completely useless. You will never get any of your bookmarks to be in top as all of the top bookmarks are rigged and manually manipulated. You will never get any non American story in the top either as it is all for Americans by American. so if you dream to get a story on front page of digg then forget about it. Just submit your story and forget about traffic. A link from digg is better than no link.
Take my advice and don’t try to waste your precious time in making a story in the top on digg.

Delicious

Delicious is another failed Yahoo investment which will be dumped sooner or later. Yahoo is notorious for buying out new concepts and burying it to wipe out any competitions and also in favour of it’s own products. As far as social bookmarking is concerned it is good to have links from delicious but again don’t waste your time in it. Submit with proper tags and forget.

Reddit

Reddit has exploited digg’s disastrous makeover a lot and at one point it seemed that digg will disappear giving way for reddit. Reddit is good for F word stories and uncontrolled swearing on any topics. It is crooks den ;) Good to have links and if your stories are weird then you might get traffic too.

Newsmarking

This is a good bookmarking site with clean links and moderated. This is a DoFollow site, baclkinks are dofollow.

DSABO – Discover Stories And BOokmark

DoFollow Social bookmarking site which is clean and allows you to add metatags for the stories and images. Good stories are pushed to front page immediately.

Multiply – Nice bookmarking site, you can get your own subdomain.

Netvouz – In the past it is used to very good bookmarking site but after revamp it looks ugly and meaningless. However worth bookmarking it just for the heck of it ;)

There are penalties as well. If you try to abuse the system your account will be deleted and all stories will be deleted.

Multiply is not just a social bookmarking site, it is more of a social networking site where you can bookmark as well as create blog. The links inside blog posts are no follow. It is a secret which I’m sharing with those who are not yet aware of the full potentials of multiply.

Most of the blogs add rel=”nofollow” tag in the comment links or post link. Google ignores such links and doesn’t give any value for counting backlinks.

Self Hosted WordPress blogs are nofollow blog until and unless you have installed the plugin to remove this.
