If you think on-page SEO is just about sprinkling keywords and writing a meta description, you are already behind.

In 2026, search engines are smarter, faster, and far more context aware. Algorithms powered by advanced AI do not just read your page. They interpret intent, evaluate authority, measure engagement signals, and compare your content against the best result on the web.

I have seen pages jump from page three to top three with nothing but smart on-page fixes. No new backlinks. No fancy hacks. Just solid fundamentals executed like a pro.

Let’s break down the ultimate on-page SEO checklist that actually moves rankings.

1. Nail Search Intent Before You Write a Single Word

This is where most people fail.

Before writing, search your target keyword and study the top ten results. Ask:

Are they guides, product pages, tools, or comparisons?

Are they beginner focused or advanced?

Are they list based or in-depth essays?

Google rewards intent alignment. If the top results are detailed guides and you publish a 600 word article, you will struggle.

Pro tip: Extract common subtopics from the top ranking pages and build a more complete outline. Your goal is not to copy. Your goal is to create the most useful version of that topic on the internet.

2. Craft a Magnetic Title Tag

Your title tag is not just for rankings. It drives clicks.

In 2026, click-through rate still influences performance indirectly. If your page gets ignored in the search results, it sends weak engagement signals.

Checklist for title tags:

Include primary keyword naturally

Keep it under 60 characters

Add a benefit or curiosity trigger

Avoid generic fluff

Weak title:

Strong title:
Ultimate On-Page SEO Checklist That Boosts Rankings in 2026

Be specific. Be benefit driven.

3. Write Meta Descriptions That Sell the Click

Meta descriptions do not directly boost rankings, but they influence click-through rate.

Think of it as ad copy.

Address the reader’s pain point

Promise a clear outcome

Add a subtle call to action

Example:
Learn the exact on-page SEO checklist used to rank in 2026. Optimize structure, content, and technical signals to outrank competitors.

Clear. Direct. Action oriented.

4. Optimize Your URL Structure

Keep URLs clean and readable.

Bad:
yoursite.com/blog/post?id=12345

Good:

Best practices:

Use primary keyword

Avoid unnecessary words

Use hyphens, not underscores

Keep it short

Short URLs are easier to share, remember, and crawl.

5. Structure Content with Proper Headings

Your H1 should clearly define the topic. Only one H1 per page.

Use H2 and H3 tags to structure subtopics logically. This helps:

Search engines understand hierarchy

Users scan content easily

AI systems extract contextual meaning

Every major subtopic should have its own H2. Think in modules.

Also, include secondary keywords naturally in subheadings. Do not force them.

6. Create Depth, Not Just Length

Word count alone does not rank pages. Depth does.

Ask yourself:

Did I answer every relevant question?

Did I cover beginner and advanced angles?

Did I include examples, steps, and frameworks?

In 2026, thin content dies fast. AI models evaluate semantic completeness. If your article barely scratches the surface, it will not compete.

Aim to be the last resource someone needs on that topic.

7. Use Semantic SEO and Topical Relevance

Search engines understand related concepts.

If your page is about on-page SEO, it should naturally mention:

Title tags

Meta descriptions

Internal links

Schema markup

Core Web Vitals

Content structure

You do not need to repeat the same keyword 25 times. In fact, that is outdated.

Instead, build semantic richness. Use related phrases and entities that reinforce the topic naturally.

8. Optimize for Featured Snippets

Featured snippets are still powerful in 2026.

To increase your chances:

Answer specific questions clearly

Use bullet points and numbered lists

Add concise definitions in 40 to 60 words

Use structured headings like “What is On-Page SEO?”

Example format:

What is On-Page SEO?
On-page SEO refers to optimizing individual web pages to improve rankings and user experience by enhancing content, HTML elements, and site structure.

Clear. Direct. Snippet friendly.

9. Strengthen Internal Linking

Internal links are massively underrated.

They:

Distribute authority

Help crawlers discover pages

Improve user navigation

Increase time on site

Best practices:

Link to relevant pages contextually

Use descriptive anchor text

Avoid generic anchors like “click here”

Ensure important pages receive multiple internal links

Think of your website like a network. Strong internal linking creates topical clusters that dominate niches.

10. Optimize Images Properly

Images are not decoration. They are assets.

Checklist:

Compress images for faster loading

Use descriptive file names

Add keyword relevant alt text

Use next-gen formats where possible

Also consider adding original visuals, charts, or screenshots. Unique media improves engagement signals.

11. Improve Core Web Vitals

Speed and usability are ranking factors.

Focus on:

Largest Contentful Paint

Interaction responsiveness

Layout stability

If your page loads slowly or shifts elements while loading, users bounce. That hurts performance.

Use tools like PageSpeed Insights and fix:

Unoptimized images

Excessive scripts

Render blocking resources

Fast pages win.

12. Add Schema Markup

Structured data helps search engines understand context better.

Depending on your content type, implement:

Article schema

FAQ schema

Product schema

Review schema

Schema can enhance your appearance in search results with rich snippets, star ratings, and FAQs.

That visibility boost increases clicks.

13. Optimize for E-E-A-T

Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness matter more than ever.

Ways to strengthen E-E-A-T:

Add a detailed author bio

Keep content updated regularly

Add real examples and case studies

If you are writing about SEO, show proof. Screenshots. Results. Insights from real campaigns.

Generic advice is everywhere. Demonstrated expertise stands out.

14. Focus on Engagement Signals

Search engines measure how users interact with your content.

Improve:

Readability with short paragraphs

Use of bullet points

Hook readers in the first 100 words. Tell them exactly what they will gain.

If people stay longer, scroll deeper, and interact more, that sends positive signals.

15. Keep Content Fresh

Updating content can revive rankings.

Every few months:

Beyond the Backlink: Why Link Velocity Matters More Than Link Volume in 2026

You want more backlinks. Everyone does. But here’s the truth most people miss: getting 1000 backlinks overnight is worse than getting 50 links slowly over a year.

This is where link velocity comes in. Link velocity is the speed at which your website earns backlinks over time. It matters far more than people realize.

When you buy backlink services, link velocity becomes crucial. You need a partner who understands that steady growth beats fast spikes. Let’s explore why this matters for your SEO success in 2026.

What Exactly Is Link Velocity?

Link velocity measures how many backlinks you gain during a specific period. Most commonly, it’s measured in links per month.

Think of it like growing a plant. You can dump fertilizer on it all at once, or feed it nutrients regularly. The slow approach produces healthier growth.

Your website works the same way. A slow, steady increase in backlinks signals health to search engines. A sudden spike? That looks suspicious.

When you outsource SEO work to quality providers, they manage link velocity carefully. They understand that Google watches how quickly links appear on your site.

Why Google Cares About Link Velocity

Google’s algorithm detects unnatural patterns. Suddenly gaining 500 backlinks in one week appears unnatural. It looks like someone bought links or used spammy tactics.

According to research from Ahrefs about how link velocity affects SEO, unusual spiky rates of growth might cause search engines to lower a site’s score to reduce spam effects. The rate at which a website gains backlinks, usually measured in links per month or referring domains per month, matters tremendously.

Natural content growth looks different. Real viral content gets links steadily over days or weeks. Fake schemes get thousands of links all at once.

Consistent, relevant growth signals a trustworthy site likely creating valuable content. Sudden spikes from random sites signal manipulation attempts and potential penalties.

This is why working with an SEO agency that understands link velocity protection matters. They won’t destroy your site by building 1000 links in a week.

The Risks of Rapid Link Building

Buying thousands of backlinks quickly carries serious consequences. Google has seen this pattern before. They know what manipulation looks like.

When your site suddenly gains massive link volume, it triggers manual reviews. Google reviewers investigate whether your growth is legitimate. If they find spam, your site gets penalized.

Penalties mean dropped rankings. Your website disappears from search results. Traffic stops completely. Revenue disappears.

Recovery takes months or years. You must remove bad links, fix your site, and rebuild trust with Google. Some sites never fully recover.

For an SEO company providing quality services, slow builds protect your rankings. They focus on relevance and natural growth patterns that Google rewards.

Quality vs. Quantity: What Actually Works

According to data analyzed by Ahrefs, top-ranking pages for competitive keywords tend to get followed backlinks from new referring domains at a pace of between +5% and +14.5% per month.

This means a page with 100 referring domains gains roughly 5-15 new backlinks monthly. A page with 500 referring domains gains 25-70 links monthly.

These numbers reflect natural patterns. Fast growth outside these ranges raises red flags.

Quality matters most. One link from a major authority website beats 100 links from spam sites. When you buy quality backlinks, you invest in relevance and authority, not quantity.

Your SEO services provider should focus on this principle. Every link must come from a legitimate, relevant source. No shortcuts. No spam directories.

Link Velocity Benchmarks for 2026

What’s the right pace for your site? It depends on your situation.

New Websites: Start with 5-10 backlinks per month. Build gradually over 6-12 months. Fast growth on new sites looks especially suspicious.

Established Small Businesses: Aim for 30-100 backlinks monthly. Align link building with content marketing and outreach campaigns.

Enterprise Brands: Can achieve 100+ backlinks monthly when coordinated across multiple departments and campaigns.

These benchmarks represent safe, sustainable growth. Exceeding them risks triggering penalties. When you outsource seo services, choose agencies following these guidelines.

How to Monitor Your Link Velocity

Tracking your link growth is essential. Use tools to measure what you’re gaining over time. The referring domains graph can reveal spikes that look unnatural. Large jumps in backlinks often indicate link spam or negative SEO attacks that require investigation.

Check your backlink profile monthly. Look for patterns. Are you gaining links consistently? Or seeing strange spikes? Unexpected patterns need investigation.

Your SEO company should provide monthly reports showing link velocity trends. This transparency lets you verify they’re following white-hat practices. Many agencies now share how to give access to Google Search Console so clients can monitor results directly and independently verify all reported metrics.

Natural Link Growth From Great Content

The best backlinks come naturally. When you create valuable content, other websites link to it without prompting.

This natural growth happens gradually. It takes weeks or months for links to accumulate. But these links carry tremendous SEO value.

According to Semrush research on competitor backlink analysis, studying what links your competitors have earned reveals opportunities for your own content. When your SEO marketing agency emphasizes content quality, you get natural link velocity benefits. Better content attracts more legitimate backlinks at sustainable rates.

Consider working with providers who understand sustainable practices. Sustainable web design that prioritizes speed and user experience creates the foundation for natural link attraction. When you create fast-loading, user-friendly resources people actually want to share, links come naturally without manipulative tactics.

The Problem With Sudden Link Spikes

Sudden increases in backlinks without corresponding content launches appear unnatural. Google’s algorithms detect these patterns instantly.

Even if you didn’t buy the links yourself, unexplained spikes need attention. Monitor your backlink profile constantly. Remove any suspicious links immediately.

Your outsourcing SEO company should implement safeguards against negative SEO. Competitors sometimes create spam backlinks to harm your site. Regular monitoring catches these attacks early.

Coordinating Link Building With Your Marketing Calendar

Smart link velocity management aligns with your business activities. Product launches, press releases, and content campaigns naturally create link opportunities.

When you launch something newsworthy, link velocity increases naturally. This looks completely legitimate to Google. Coordinated PR and content release explains the spike.

Your SEO outsourcing services provider should coordinate link building around real business events. This approach generates sustainable growth that Google rewards.

White-Hat vs. Black-Hat Link Building

Two approaches exist for building links. White-hat methods build links naturally and ethically. Black-hat methods use spam, manipulation, and schemes.

White-hat approach: Guest posts on relevant blogs, press releases, content syndication, manual outreach to interested publishers.

Black-hat approach: Buying links, private blog networks, comment spam, forum profiles, automated directory submissions.

White-hat builds link velocity slowly. It takes more time but creates lasting results. Black-hat builds fast but invites penalties.

When you buy backlinks from reputable providers, you get white-hat services. Quality agencies refuse to use spam tactics regardless of client pressure.

Negative SEO and Link Velocity Monitoring

Competitors sometimes sabotage websites by creating spam backlinks intentionally. This negative SEO harms your rankings if you don’t notice it quickly.

Monitor your link profile weekly for unusual activity. Sudden spikes from irrelevant or low-quality sites need investigation.

Use Google Search Console to report suspicious backlinks. Request their disavowal. Your outsource seo work partner should monitor this threat constantly.

Prevention beats recovery. Regular monitoring catches negative SEO attacks before they cause damage.

Building Authority Over Time

Real SEO authority develops gradually. Top-ranking sites built their link profiles over years, not weeks.

This patience pays off. Websites with long histories of quality linking enjoy more stability. Algorithm updates affect them less. Rankings stay strong longer.

Your SEO firm partner should emphasize long-term authority building. Sustainable strategies outperform quick fixes permanently. Understanding why cross-cultural marketing builds strong connections teaches valuable lessons about creating universally relevant content that naturally earns links from diverse international sources over time.

Comparing Your Link Velocity to Competitors

You can’t build links in a vacuum. Compare your velocity to competitors ranking for your target keywords.

What’s their link growth rate? How many backlinks do they gain monthly? This data reveals healthy benchmarks for your industry.

If top-ranking competitors gain 50 links monthly, aiming for 100 monthly appears aggressive. Target their pace and build gradually from there.

Your SEO services outsourcing provider should conduct competitor analysis. This research informs realistic link velocity goals aligned with your market.

Tools for Tracking Link Velocity

Ahrefs provides excellent link velocity tracking. See exactly how fast competitors gain backlinks. Identify link sources. Understand growth patterns. Healthy backlink profiles tend to exhibit a gradual and consistent upward trend, while large spikes and drops in backlinks and referring domains are almost always unnatural and can indicate negative SEO attacks or shady link schemes.

Tools show monthly trends. Compare your velocity to competitors over time. Spot opportunities and threats quickly.

Google Search Console offers basic link tracking free. See which sites link to you. Monitor growth patterns. Receive alerts about suspicious activity.

Regular monitoring catches problems early. Your buy backlink provider should use these tools professionally.

False Alarms and Viral Content

Sometimes rapid link growth is completely legitimate. Viral content gains hundreds of links quickly. This natural virality never triggers penalties.

The difference? Real viral content attracts links from diverse, relevant sources. Organic sharing drives the spike. No manipulation involved.

When content actually resonates with audiences, rapid growth appears natural. Google recognizes this legitimacy. Penalties don’t apply.

Your SEO team should understand this distinction. They recognize when rapid growth is earned versus bought.

Creating Link-Worthy Content

The ultimate solution to healthy link velocity is creating content people want to link to.

Research keywords thoroughly. Answer questions completely. Provide data people cite. Build resources others reference.

Great content attracts links naturally. You don’t force them. They happen because the content provides genuine value.

This approach eliminates link velocity worries. Natural links always appear legitimate. Google rewards them consistently.

When you outsource SEO, choose partners emphasizing content quality. The best SEO combines great content with sustainable link building.

Planning Your Link Building Strategy

Begin by defining realistic goals. Where do you rank currently? Where do you want to rank? What does the competition look like?

Set monthly link building targets aligned with your industry benchmarks. Plan content calendar and outreach campaigns around business activities.

Schedule link building activities consistently. Aim for steady monthly growth rather than unpredictable spikes.

Your SEO outsourcing partner should create written strategy documents. Clear plans ensure consistent execution.

Making the Right Outsourcing Decision

When you outsource seo company selection matters tremendously. Choose partners understanding link velocity importance.

Ask about their link building methodology. How do they acquire links? What’s their typical monthly growth rate? Can they explain their approach clearly?

Request references from existing clients. Check their case studies. See if they maintained healthy link velocity while building authority.

Quality partners proudly discuss sustainable methods. They explain why slow builds produce better long-term results. They refuse to promise fast fixes or massive link increases.

Final Thoughts

Link velocity represents a fundamental shift in thinking about SEO. Slow beats fast. Quality beats quantity. Sustainable beats aggressive.

In 2026, this principle becomes even more important. Google’s algorithms grow smarter constantly. Detection of manipulation improves yearly.

The sites winning right now build links sustainably. They prioritize relevance and quality. They understand that real authority develops gradually.

When you buy backlink services or outsource SEO services, demand partners following these principles. Your rankings depend on it.

The race isn’t won by the fastest link builders. It’s won by the smartest ones. Choose sustainable, quality-focused partners. Watch your authority and rankings grow steadily year after year.

In recent years, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and search engine optimization (SEO) has marked a transformative era in digital marketing. AI’s capacity to process vast amounts of data at unprecedented speeds has given rise to new strategies and tools that streamline and optimize SEO practices.

Moreover, the SEO AI integration has opened avenues for marketers to anticipate user behavior, tailor content more effectively, and enhance the overall user experience.

Based on a survey involving 3,890 SEO professionals, AI is a major disruptor in the industry. The survey underscored how AI integration is being recognized for its potential in generative content production and in tracking SEO value. SEO experts from around the world are delving deep into emerging SEO trends, challenges, and opportunities, pinpointing AI’s growing footprint in shaping the future of SEO.

If you want to step up your search engine optimization, using artificial intelligence for SEO is a no-brainer. This article will help you learn all you need to start mixing these two for outstanding SEO results.

AI in Keyword Research

The integration of AI into the domain of keyword research has ushered in an era of elevated efficiency and precision.

Revolutionized Search Outcomes

Google’s RankBrain, an AI facet of its search algorithm, emphasizes the quality of content and its comprehensibility. Instead of solely focusing on exact keywords, it seeks topical authority and context, delivering improved search results.

This means a shift in keyword research to understanding user intent and producing in-depth, long-tail content. SEO marketers need to harness these advancements, conducting semantic content audits and optimizing pages to enhance Google rankings.

Techniques Empowered by SEO AI

Keyword research has evolved from mere term identification to discerning user intent as “informational” or “transactional”. AI’s capability to leverage techniques like supervised and unsupervised text classification, named entity recognition, and K-Means clustering provides an enriched query analysis.

Advancements in Tools

The landscape of keyword research tools has been profoundly impacted by AI. These tools offer real-time insights, enabling agility in competitor analysis and refining strategies. Features to consider when selecting AI SEO tools include analytics, competitive analysis functionalities, support for long-tail keywords, multilingual capabilities, and pricing structures.

Competitor Analysis

Competitor analysis using AI-driven SEO tools provides an edge in the digital marketplace. One of the main benefits of AI-aided competitor analysis is uncovering keyword opportunities, improving content quality, optimizing site structure, enhancing technical SEO, amplifying off-page SEO, and enabling better tracking and measuring results against competitors.

This deep understanding allows businesses to refine their strategies and remain competitive in a dynamic online landscape.

Automated Keyword Research

Automated keyword research, as facilitated by AI, not only accelerates keyword targeting but also streamlines clustering processes. The best AI SEO tools can offer real-time metrics, related keywords, autocompletes, and address common user queries, thereby aiding in the selection of industry-specific keywords for driving targeted website traffic.

The potential of SEO AI is evident, and when combined with understanding user intent, it optimizes positioning on search engine results pages. In this domain, the synergy of AI and data science provides keen insights into Google’s algorithm, ranking factors and mechanisms, enhancing SEO outcomes.

AI in Content Creation

Artificial intelligence is making significant strides in the realm of content creation. For instance, it imitates human intelligence to automate content production, ensuring quick and high-quality outcomes. It has evolved from simple text generation to producing intricate content that mirrors human writing, marking a significant transformation in content creation.

The combination of machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) powers AI in content writing. While ML refines writing styles through learning, NLP captures sentiment, context, and emotional nuances.

Applications in Real-World Scenarios

Content idea generation: AI fosters creativity across platforms, assisted by tools such as Persado and ChatGPT.

Personalization: AI customizes content for specific communities through tools like Adobe Target, enhancing user engagement.

Streamlined research: Tools like TextOptimizer and chatbots like Lex aid in efficient data gathering.

Writing and editing: AI tools like Grammarly and Writer help in identifying grammatical errors, ensuring content quality and consistency.

Visual and audio creation: Tools like DALL-E, Canva, and Descript help produce images, videos, and other marketing assets.

Benefits of using such tools include efficiency and speed, personalization and scalability, as well as enhanced quality. AI aids in rapid content production without compromising quality (if used properly). It provides tailored content experiences, catering to various audience segments. Furthermore, it ensures better content creation by automating tasks like research and editing.

That being said, while AI brings efficiency to content creation, concerns like plagiarism, bias, and misinformation need addressing. Therefore, striking a balance between AI capabilities and ethics is crucial.

AI Content Optimization

Leveraging machine learning algorithms and natural language processing, artificial intelligence streamlines the enhancement of content for target audiences, aiming to increase engagement and conversions.

Such technologies allow for a revolutionary approach to search engine optimization, as they can deeply analyze digital content and provide intelligent insights. For instance, AI-driven tools meticulously assess factors like keyword density, readability, and engagement metrics, presenting personalized suggestions to content creators to make their content more effective and appealing.

With AI, the optimization steps can range from analyzing content and refining meta descriptions to adapting content for emerging platforms like voice search. Such advancements in AI tools also mean they play a crucial role in SEO by analyzing vast amounts of data, predicting user behavior, crafting automated content, and ensuring a semantic understanding of the content.

However, while AI brings efficiency, accuracy, and performance boosts, it’s essential to understand its limitations. AI tools may lack the nuanced understanding, emotional resonance, and context that human creativity brings. A harmonious blend of AI and human expertise is vital for creating content that not only ranks well but also deeply resonates with audiences. Such a combination ensures content is strategically optimized and emotionally impactful.

AI Content Generation

AI harnesses tools that generate content ideas based on analyzing interests, ensuring customization that boosts engagement. It supports writers by identifying errors and enhancing content quality, with platforms like Grammarly refining tone and guiding writers toward their goals.

On the SEO front, tools such as Surfer SEO deploy AI to refine SEO strategies, leading to better content positioning. AI also champions accessibility by translating written text to speech, incorporating captions, and catering to the differently-abled community.

In the realm of visual art, tools including DALL-E and Canva utilize AI’s capabilities to craft visual content. AI also seamlessly integrates into audio and video editing processes, as seen with platforms like Descript.

Generative AI, a robust subset of AI, crafts diverse content forms, encompassing text, imagery, music, and videos, while also facilitating task automation and refining customer experiences. Moreover, it can augment content, assist with coding, and serve as an answering mechanism.

Enterprises harnessing AI can expect a downtrend in costs and an uptick in productivity. Yet, as we embrace AI’s prowess in content creation, the indispensability of human expertise shines through. Additionally, it’s vital to navigate the associated risks, from biases and intellectual property dilemmas to cybersecurity challenges.

How AI is Enhancing the User Experience

User experience (UX) is one of the primary SEO ranking factors. But AI doesn’t fall behind here either. In fact, it is significantly transforming the realm of UX:

Personalization and engagement: AI aids in offering personalized customer experiences. By utilizing customer data, AI tailors interactions, increasing engagement and retention.

Optimal information placement: Stanford’s Michael Bernstein emphasized leveraging AI’s strengths for better UX. There are applications that include AI-generated heat maps that guide the optimal placement of information, enhancing the user’s journey and understanding.

Adaptive interaction: Handling uncertainty is crucial in UX. AI-driven tools like Microsoft Office’s adaptive toolbar adjust based on user preferences, enhancing user satisfaction. Furthermore, platforms like Netflix use AI for content recommendations, offering users content that aligns with their interests.

Enhancing digital presence: The synergy between AI and UX elevates the digital experience. AI analyzes user data to offer tailored interactions, resembling personal assistants. Emphasis on user-centric designs paves the way for automation opportunities, reinforcing brand promotion and revenue growth.

Intelligent experience engines: Companies are creating these engines using AI and customer data, enabling high-quality user experiences. They guide users toward goals through end-to-end processes and agile technology, taking personalization to unprecedented scales. Successful brands harness AI to create a comprehensive customer view by uniting data signals.

Personalization

AI-driven personalization utilizes unique user profiles for customized content, messaging, ads, product recommendations, and more. Additionally, real-time personalization tailors user experiences by adapting to user behavior and preferences.

The application of AI in personalization has demonstrated an increase in conversion rates, especially when messaging is targeted based on customer data. However, striking the right balance to avoid making users uncomfortable is crucial.

Chatbots

Chatbots powered by AI offer hyper-personalized experiences, providing more precise customization than traditional online methods. Their adaptability and relevance enable tailored user experiences, filling the gaps left by conventional website categorizations.

AI chat interfaces such as Jasper Chat cater to business use cases and enhance SEO workflows by optimizing content, classifying relevant keywords, and generating FAQs for landing pages or blogs. However, challenges persist, like context comprehension and achieving genuinely human-like interactions.

The Future of SEO

The future of SEO seems to be shaped by a confluence of technological advancements, evolving user behavior, and the growing importance of brand building:

First-party data collection: As third-party cookies phase out, businesses will increasingly rely on constructing their internal data hubs for targeted marketing, helped significantly by SEO, which attracts users and nurtures leads.

Brand building: The transition from traditional SEO tactics to brand building emerges as a dominant theme. Strong brands often dominate search engine results pages, with their growth leading to improved search engine rankings and resilient, non-branded traffic.

Diverse search methods: Apart from traditional text searches, voice and image searches present newer avenues for businesses to tap into. This includes optimizing for tools like Google Lens.

Content renewal: Revitalizing outdated content can lead to regained rankings, traffic, and revenue, emphasizing the importance of refreshing existing content alongside generating new SEO content.

Video and mobile optimization: Given the proliferation of voice assistants and the increasing integration of videos in search results, optimizing for both mobile and video has become indispensable.

User experience and Web Vitals: With the growing emphasis on Core Web Vitals by Google, UX elements like load time, navigation, and compression have become significant factors influencing site performance.

SEO automation: Tools like SEMRush and AI-driven technology assist in automating SEO tasks, particularly in adapting to algorithm changes.

Local SEO and reviews: Catering to specific demographic behaviors, like those of Gen Z, means a greater emphasis on local SEO and encouraging customer reviews.

The synthesis of these trends suggests a future where SEO is not just about keywords and backlinks but also about delivering genuine value, prioritizing user experience, embracing diverse search methods, and emphasizing brand authority.

Voice Search Optimization

Voice-enabled devices, such as Google Home, Amazon Echo, and Siri on iPhones, are becoming ubiquitous, leading to a surge in voice search use. Optimizing for this type of search goes beyond traditional SEO, involving the use of long-tail keywords, question-based keywords, and a conversational tone. Features like snippets, knowledge graphs, and local SEO, including “Near Me” queries, play a pivotal role in this SEO optimization.

With voice searches, businesses with location-based relevance stand to benefit significantly. It’s essential for them to claim and complete their Google Business Profile, integrate local keywords, and pay attention to regional slang.

AI technology, like Google’s BERT algorithm and automatic speech recognition, is enhancing the understanding of context, which is integral to voice search.

Semantic Search

Semantic search is all about understanding user intent. AI’s role in deciphering search intent is becoming increasingly crucial as search engines evolve to provide more relevant and tailored responses. The evolution of search focuses on understanding language nuances to provide results tailored to the searcher’s intent.

Visual Search Optimization: Image and Video Recognition

While the provided sources focus on voice search, the importance of AI in visual content optimization can’t be underestimated. As technology advances, search engines will rely on AI to analyze and categorize visual content, making it more searchable.

Nobody exactly knows how search engine algorithms work.

There are a lot of nuances to search engine optimization, or SEO, that make it a breeding ground for many SEO myths. Worse still- most of these are backed by SEO experts online.

The consequences of believing everything related to SEO are less online visibility, limited audience reach and missed opportunities for success. It also leads to a waste of resources, time, and effort.

An effective SEO strategy demands a well-rounded and accurate awareness of search engines.

Read on as we debunk 9 major SEO misconceptions with facts to help you boost search rankings and conversion rates.

9 Common SEO Myths and Facts Revealed

1. Myth: AI is killing SEO

Fact: SEO is here to stay for the long run

With increasing use of AI tools like ChatGPT, it is assumed that people will stop using search engines to look for information, which will make SEO outdated. While AI assistants provide quick answers and summaries, they can’t entirely replace search engines. They offer content that lacks the accuracy and depth found in expert-written articles.

For instance, if you ask an AI about the best SEO tools for your business, you’d get a basic list based on scraped online data – no tool comparisons or no expert insights.

The top-ranking articles, however, will offer well-rounded and in-depth information supported by real-world examples.

In fact, AI tools are enhancing, not replacing, online search engines. They’re pushing content creators and SEO professionals to deliver higher value, ultimately benefiting users with improved access to accurate and insightful information.

2. Myth: Content that is longer ranks higher

Fact: The search intent matters more than the content length

Having more words on the page doesn’t automatically make your content rank higher. While longer blogs may offer more room to cover a topic in-depth, simply padding content with unnecessary words or irrelevant subtopics won’t guarantee better rankings.

Content quality and relevance outweigh word count in SEO. In short, covering a topic thoroughly and in a way that caters to the search intent, is what makes your content SEO-friendly. If a blog post with 500 words perfectly answers a user’s query, it will outperform a 1,500 or 2,000-word piece that fails to provide value.

Instead of focusing solely on the length, consider the following elements of a high-quality article:

A compelling title that effectively summarizes the topics.

Relevant, well-researched information.

Content logically structured with proper headings and subheadings.

Primary and secondary keywords incorporated naturally.

A scannable structure with bullet points, lists, images, and white space.

3. Myth: High keyword density is important

Fact: Too many keywords lead to search penalties

One of the most common SEO myths is that higher keyword density will guarantee higher rankings. It is believed that keywords spread throughout your content will signal to search engines that your page is relevant to the user’s query.

The SEO fact, however, is that crowding your page with the same keywords is considered keyword stuffing- a black hat SEO technique that can get you penalized.

While keyword density is not important, keywords do hold value. A few well-researched and naturally used ones can do wonders for your content. Here is how you can optimally place keywords in your content:

Maintain a balanced keyword density (around 1-2%) to ensure readability.

Use keywords as anchor texts for internal linking to improve site navigation and SEO.

Use keywords in the title, introduction, conclusion, headings, and subheadings.

Incorporate synonyms and related terms to avoid repetitive keyword usage.

Use SEO tools to check whether your content has keywords stuffed.

Write as you speak to ensure a natural flow of keywords.

4. Myth: All backlinks are useful

Fact: Backlinks from unreliable sites do not deliver the same results

Backlinks are essential as they direct users from other websites to your pages, improving the website’s traffic. Search engines like Google see backlinks as votes of confidence that show your reliability among other websites.

This has led to the SEO myth that all links pointing to your site are beneficial, regardless of the link source.

In reality, backlinks originating from less credible sites will not deliver similar results. Several spammy backlinks can generate the impression that you’re buying links- another penalized black hat SEO practice.

When it comes to link-building, keep the given pointers in mind:

Develop infographics that other websites can embed and link back to you.

Submit your website to high-valued directories.

Network with industry leaders and bloggers to create link-building opportunities.

Write guest posts for reputable websites in your niche to earn backlinks.

Get your content listed on industry-relevant resources pages.

5. Myth: SEO Takes 3 Months

Fact: Many factors can influence a site’s SEO. The 3-month timeline is inaccurate

Changes in SEO tactics take time for search engine bots to process. The results will not be precise on day 90; it is more complicated than that.

If the competition is low and the marketer is targeting niche terms, the rank changes on Google can occur with just a re-crawl. However, for competitive keywords, ranking improvements may take longer time.

Even a minor adjustment to a page title can positively impact the click-through rate (CTR), especially if search engines re-crawl the page promptly.

Achieving first-page ranking on Google often requires a considerable amount of time, making it tricky to measure SEO efforts within a three-month timeframe.

6. Myth: PPC Advertising Helps Rankings

Fact: Google uses distinct algorithms for organic and paid rankings

Running a paid search Google campaign while conducting SEO may benefit you for other reasons, but it won’t directly improve your ranking.

This is a common myth, based on the idea that Google will favor websites promoted through pay-per-click advertising. The truth is that Google’s algorithm for ranking organic search results is completely different from the one used for PPC ad placements.

Paid advertising and keyword bidding are great ways to enhance your exposure and reach your target audience. Having your sponsored ad appear above the search ranks will help establish your brand identity but can only help improve ranking when paired with SEO.

The indirect ways in which paid search can improve organic rankings are:

Assisting you to define and refine the terms you want to target organically.

Testing the effectiveness of landing pages.

Providing insights into audience demographics and interests to tailor your SEO strategy.

Analyzing search queries and ad performance to help identify topics and keywords to target.

Highlighting issues with site navigation and structure.

7. Myth: Your content should always be fresh

Fact: Freshness is a ranking element that is decided by query

This SEO myth stems from the Google algorithm update of 2011 that ranks fresher results in the SERPs. It’s because, for some queries, the fresher the results, the better the chances of accuracy.

For instance, if someone searches for “Olympics 2024 updates,” Google will prioritize the most recent news articles, blog posts, and updates about the 2024 Olympics. This is because the query implies that the user is looking for the latest information.

However, this doesn’t always mean newer content outranks older content.

Google determines if the query deserves freshness or not. If it does, content age becomes a ranking factor. In cases where freshness isn’t required (for instance, Olympics history), then the age of content will not play any role in rankings.

When creating a content strategy, set aside time for revisiting your old content. Consider the query’s intent and see if adding any new information will make it more valuable.

8. Myth: More blogs get the website ranked better

Fact: You should not publish content consistently just for the sake of it

One of the most common myths surrounding SEO is that publishing content consistently is important. Studies, such as the 2023 State of Content Marketing Report by SEMrush show that high-performing blogs publish content every day. On the other side, low-performing ones post less frequently.

Google Search Center itself debunked this myth in a webinar. It clarified that you shouldn’t create content for the sake of it. Your content strategy should focus on meeting the audience’s needs and wants.

To make sure that your content is relevant and consistent but not overflowing, follow these best practices:

Understand your audience’s pain points to create relatable content.

Decide on a content pillar and break it down into different topics to avoid cannibalization and overflow of content.

Plan your content schedule to ensure that you maintain consistency.

Regularly audit your existing content to identify gaps, outdated information, and opportunities for updates.

Offer a mix of content types (e.g., blog posts, videos, infographics) to keep your audience engaged without overwhelming them.

9. Myth: Keywords in URLs are very important

Fact: Your URL should be short and concise, clearly indicating the webpage content

A recent SEO advice doing rounds on the internet, is that you should include keywords in your URL. This helps users and search engines comprehend the content of the page easily.

While it’s a good practice, its importance for SEO is overstated. John Mueller (who coordinates Google search relations) has said several times that keywords in URLs are a very minor ranking factor.

Instead of stuffing keywords, try the following tips to optimize URLs for SEO purposes:

Keep them short and simple.

Incorporate one relevant keyword that describes the page intent.

Use lowercase letters to avoid potential case sensitivity issues.

Exclude common stop words (e.g., and, or, but) unless necessary for clarity.

Separate words with hyphens instead of underscore.

Ensure your site uses HTTPS for secure, encrypted connections.

Summing up Common SEO Myths

We’ve debunked the 9 most common SEO myths, but there are more out there. Keep an eye to know the difference between facts and beliefs for optimizing your content better, and gaining more relevant traffic.

As you work on SEO, remember, there is no right way to do SEO. There are many SEO practices to boost your search engine performance. Just because a keyword in the URL works for your competitor, it doesn’t mean it will work for you.

SEO is a trial-and-error method where you give each technique a fair try and build your strategy on the ones that work best for you.

FAQs

1. What four pillars are important in SEO?

A well-defined SEO strategy comprises four key pillars for boosting visibility and attracting organic traffic. These include:

On-page SEO:

It refers to fine-tuning each page on your website by optimizing content for keywords, meta tags, concise URLs, and strong CTAs. On-page SEO also means ensuring that your website’s structure helps search engines understand each page’s relevance.

Technical SEO:

It comprises the backend structure of your website. It covers optimizing website speed, mobile-friendliness, XML sitemaps, and easy navigation. Technical SEO also includes implementing HTTP for security, fixing crawl, and improving the overall architecture.

Off-page SEO:

This encompasses activities that take place outside the website to enhance visibility and authority. The most important off-page SEO element is building backlinks from reputable websites. Guest blogging, social media marketing, and emails are other strategies to boost the visibility of your website.

Content:

A cornerstone of your website, it helps search engines see your page as a trusted source of information. High-quality content that addresses user’s search query attracts relevant traffic. To find out search queries relevant to your business, do some Google searches from the perspective of a customer.

2. What is the difference between organic SEO and paid search?

Organic SEO and paid search results are interconnected. They both play a crucial role in boosting your online visibility. However, they both have certain key differences:

Definition:

Organic SEO is the process of optimizing your content to rank higher in the search results pages without paying for placement. Whereas paid search results or PPC advertising involve paying for ad placements in the SERPs for specific keywords.

Cost:

There is no direct cost involved in organic SEO, you may require investment in content creation, SEO tools, and more. Costs are incurred on a per-click basis in paid search. You will have to pay each time someone clicks on your ad.

Techniques:

Some of the techniques used in organic search are link building, keyword optimization, content creation, and technical SEO. Paid search involves bidding on keywords, creating ad copy and targeting specific demographics.

Sustainability:

Organic SEO is more sustainable in the long run, as a high ranking can persist if SEO practices are followed. As for paid ads, they’re removed as soon as you stop paying.

3. Is it necessary to hire an SEO agency?

An SEO agency comes with specialized knowledge and experience across various industries. Working with them is a good idea if you lack SEO knowledge and skills.

There are also other common situation hiring an individual or team for SEO can boost your rankings, such as:

You don’t have time to keep up with SEO

SEO is a journey, not a specific destination. With search engines constantly updating, you must always be on your toes, keeping up with every little change. Hiring a professional is a good idea, as it’s their job to be always aware of the latest algorithm updates and trends.

Your website isn’t driving traffic

If even with SEO practices, your website is not driving any relevant traffic, then it’s a good idea to bring on board an SEO specialist who can conduct a well-rounded audit of your website and help you identify gaps in your SEO strategy.

Your team is stretched too thin

You might have an internal marketing team, but if they already have a lot on their plate, you must bring in an SEO professional who can help. That way, your team can save time, and you can hit the ground running with your SEO and overall marketing campaigns.

Don’t let valuable content sit idle – reviving old blog posts is one of the most effective (and underused) SEO strategies. Instead of churning out new content nonstop, updating existing posts can boost your traffic, improve search rankings, and save you time.

Understanding the Importance of Refreshed Content and Why it Matters

Search engines favour fresh and relevant content. When users search for answers, algorithms prioritize accurate and up-to-date results.

Even if your older blog posts offer valuable insights, some parts of them may no longer reflect current information. By updating that content, you not only enhance its value for readers but also signal to search engines that your site delivers timely, evolving, and high-quality information worth ranking.

Why You Should Update Old Blog Posts for SEO

Enhancing and updating existing articles helps you retain valuable backlinks while also opening the door to new ones, amplifying your online visibility and strengthening your SEO strategy.

The Value of Evergreen Posts

Evergreen posts form the foundation of a successful blog, as they remain relevant and are valuable pieces of content after they have been published. Unlike time-sensitive news or trend-driven content, evergreen articles consistently draw traffic, perform well in search rankings, and generate leads over the long term.

By focusing on timeless subjects, addressing frequently asked questions, and offering comprehensive insights, these posts help to sustain ongoing engagement. With occasional updates, they can continue to be a key part of your content strategy for years to come.

Content Refresh vs. Full Rewrite

A content refresh involves updating an existing article with new, relevant information while keeping its original structure intact. This might include revising outdated details, adding fresh data or insights, and updating sources.

In contrast, a full rewrite is a complete revamp of the post. It means starting from scratch—rewriting the content, incorporating new ideas, and aligning the piece with the latest industry trends to ensure it stays relevant and competitive.

Leveraging AI-Powered Tools for Content Optimization

Traditional content audits can be labor-intensive, especially when managing a large library of blog posts. While blogs are key to building authority and scale, keeping them effective over time is a growing challenge.

That’s where AI can help. Today’s AI tools can scan your content, flag outdated information, suggest relevant updates, and even identify where user engagement drops off.

This isn’t about replacing the human element, but strengthening it. With data-driven insights, AI helps shape a smarter, more strategic content revamp process, making your updates more targeted and impactful.

AI-driven tools can play a crucial role in streamlining and enhancing content strategies. These tools can:

Audit Existing Content: Automatically scan for outdated or inaccurate information and recommend timely updates.

Provide Data-Driven Insights: Analyze keyword trends, detect broken links, assess reader sentiment, and highlight top-performing content to inform strategic revisions.

Enhance Style and Tone: Use AI writing assistants to evaluate and refine tone, style, and clarity, ensuring a consistent voice across all content.

Accelerate the Optimization Process: Support semantic analysis, visual content enhancement, and readability checks to make content audits faster and more efficient.

By integrating AI into their content workflows, businesses can maintain relevance, improve user engagement, and boost overall content performance.

Practical Framework for Refreshing Blog Content with AI

Keeping your blog content up-to-date isn’t just good practice—it’s essential for maintaining authority and relevance in your niche. Here’s a structured approach you can use to refresh older blog posts, with the help of AI tools to streamline and enhance the process.

Identifying Content that Needs a Refresh

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to update your old blog posts for better SEO performance.

1. Identify Which Posts to Update

Find Posts Ranking on Page 2 of Google (Positions 11–30)

Start by using Google Analytics or Search Console to find posts that:

Rank on page 2 or 3 of Google (positions 11–30).

Pages getting impressions but low click-through rate (CTR)

Have outdated information or broken links.

Once-popular posts that are now losing momentum

Seasonal content worth re-optimizing

Audit Posts with Thin Content

Google prefers in-depth content. Thin posts (under 500–700 words) often underperform.

Find: Short articles with little substance, few links, or no images/videos

Target High-Impression, Low-CTR Posts

These are posts that show up in search results but aren’t getting clicks.

Why? Titles may not be compelling, or the meta description doesn’t match search intent.

Where to find: Google Search Console → Performance → Pages or Queries → Sort by impressions, then CTR

How AI helps: Modern AI tools can scan your content and cross-reference it with up-to-date sources, flagging sections that may be inaccurate or obsolete.

SEO Pro Tip: Posts that are 6 months to 2 years old are often ideal for updates—they’ve aged enough to gather data but aren’t too outdated.

2. Refresh and Expand the Content

Updating old posts can help to fix outdated information and refresh old statistics, which is essential for keeping your content accurate and relevant. It can boost blog traffic, revive underperforming posts, and increase user engagement. Search engines favor fresh content, making SEO the biggest reason to revisit and improve older articles.

Outdated content can quickly turn visitors away. With trends and strategies evolving daily, weekly, and monthly, blog posts that contain old information can make your entire site feel stale and unreliable.

Take SEO as an example. Search engines roll out algorithm updates almost every week. If you’ve got a post on SEO best practices that hasn’t been touched in years, it’s unlikely to offer much value to today’s readers.

How AI helps: AI can analyze top-performing content on similar topics and suggest areas where your article could go deeper or become more comprehensive.

That’s why it’s important to review your older blog content regularly. When you spot a new industry development or see opportunities to align content with current best practices, take the time to update it.

3. Optimize for Current SEO Best Practices

Apply the latest SEO techniques to ensure your content stays competitive. Start by targeting the right keywords—use keyword research tools to check if your current keywords are still relevant or if there are better alternatives. Optimize your title and meta description to make them compelling and keyword-rich, which can help boost your click-through rate. Add internal links to newer or more relevant posts to keep readers engaged and improve site structure. Finally, use proper headers (H1, H2, H3) to help search engines better understand the organization of your content.

How AI helps: Semantic analysis tools can interpret context and intent, alerting you if any updated sections stray from the original meaning.

4 Maintain Tone and Style Consistency

Ensure that any updates or additions maintain the original voice and tone of the article, preserving a consistent and cohesive reading experience. This helps with SEO by enhancing user engagement, increasing time on page, and reducing bounce rates, all of which signal quality and relevance to search engines.

How AI helps: AI-powered writing assistants can review your post for tone consistency, helping you maintain a seamless narrative throughout.

5. Update Visuals

Replace any outdated images, charts, or diagrams to reflect your refreshed content and maintain visual appeal. This not only improves user experience but also supports SEO by increasing engagement, reducing bounce rates, and signaling to search engines that your content is current and relevant.

How AI helps: AI design tools can suggest improved visuals, enhance existing ones, or even generate custom infographics to support your updates.

6. Fix Technical Issues

Even small technical improvements can have a big impact. Start by fixing broken links using a plugin or a tool like Broken Link Checker. Make sure your post is mobile-friendly to provide a smooth experience for users on all devices. Additionally, improve your page loading speed by compressing images or removing unnecessary scripts that may slow things down.

7. Update the Publish Date

Once your changes are complete, update the publish date (if your CMS allows) to reflect the freshness of your content. This can encourage both search engines and users to see your post as up-to-date. Be honest, don’t change the date without making substantial updates.

6. Use the Same URLs (unless there’s a reason not to)

When updating or rewriting articles, it’s best to keep the original URL. This maintains the page’s authority and avoids confusing search engines or users.

If keeping the original URL isn’t possible, set up a permanent redirect from the old post to the new one. This ensures that any existing links still work and direct visitors to the updated content.

7. Promote the Updated Content

Now that your post is updated, promote it like it’s brand new. Share it across your social media platforms, send it to your email list, and reach out to influencers or blogs that had previously linked to the post to let them know it’s been refreshed.

Track your SEO rankings

Finally, monitor your results. To do this realistically without getting overwhelmed, allow your blog posts around 3 months to gain traction again. Then, go back to Google Search Console (or your chosen tool):

Are your updated blog posts ranking higher now?

Are some of them doing better than others? If so, look at what you did differently and consider implementing it elsewhere, too

For example, you might realise that your audience prefers blog posts with short videos: film more. Did your infographic earn you several backlinks? Add them to your other blog posts, too.

What Not to Do When Updating Old Posts

The URL carries your SEO value, so avoid changing it. If your original link doesn’t include the title, you can tweak it for SEO—just proceed carefully, especially if the post already ranks well.

Instead of making major edits, focus on ensuring the content is accurate, the images match your branding, and the post still answers your audience’s questions, teaches effectively, or addresses key pain points. If it’s performing well, don’t risk disrupting its success.

Repurpose Content

If you have evergreen content that remains relevant over time, repurposing is a great way to keep it visible and valuable. Rather than letting it fade into your archives, you can regularly reintroduce it to your audience in fresh ways.

Repurposing also helps you connect with different audience preferences—while some people enjoy reading blog posts, others may prefer watching videos or listening to podcasts. By presenting your content in multiple formats, you can expand your reach and engage a wider audience.

Why Updating Works Better Than Starting From Scratch

1. Preserves Existing SEO Value

Older blog posts often have:

Established backlinks

Search engine indexing

Domain authority signals

Starting over erases this history. Updating retains your SEO equity while improving relevance.

2. Builds on Existing Traffic

If a blog already ranks or gets consistent traffic, updating it with fresh stats, examples, or insights can boost visibility without rebuilding readership from zero.

An update gives you an excuse to:

Share again on social media

Include it in newsletters

Reintroduce it in internal linking strategies

Refreshing old content is a highly effective way to boost traffic, improve SEO, and maximize the value of your blog. However, the process can be time-consuming, auditing your site, identifying the right posts to update, and manually optimizing each one takes significant effort.

To successfully update old blog posts for SEO using AI into content workflows, it is important to maintain a consistent tone and style throughout the blog. While AI can streamline and support these tasks, human oversight remains essential to ensure accuracy, relevance, and overall content quality.

FAQs

Why should I use AI to update my blog content?

AI can speed up the content refresh process by identifying outdated information, analyzing competitor content, ensuring tone consistency, and improving readability—all while saving time and maintaining quality.

How do I know when to refresh my content?

Declining performance metrics—like reduced traffic, lower engagement, or slipping search rankings—often signal that your content may be outdated or losing relevance. Additionally, industry developments such as new research, emerging technologies, or shifts in consumer behavior should trigger a review to keep your content accurate, current, and valuable to your audience.

How often should I rewrite a blog?

The frequency of rewriting a blog post should align with the pace of changes in the relevant topic area and the performance of the post itself. Content on rapidly developing topics, such as technology or market trends, may require more frequent updates to remain current and valuable.

Is it okay to remove old blog posts?

Removing outdated blog posts can be essential for maintaining your website’s quality and relevance. Deleting a post may be the best option if it is no longer accurate and can’t be reasonably updated. However, it’s important to account for the potential effects on site navigation and SEO. Using redirects to direct users to newer, related content can help maintain a smooth user experience and protect your search engine rankings.

What is the 80/20 rule for blogging?

The Pareto Principle, commonly known as the 80/20 Rule, suggests that roughly 80% of your outcomes stem from just 20% of your efforts. When applied to blogging, this often means:

Around 80% of your traffic comes from just 20% of your posts

80% of your revenue is driven by the top-performing 20% of content

80% of your leads and conversions result from 20% of your marketing strategies

Keep in mind, the 80/20 split is a general guideline, not a fixed law. For your blog, the ratio might be 70/30, 85/15, or even 95/5. The exact numbers matter less than recognizing which efforts yield the biggest impact and focusing your energy there.

How do I repost an old blog post?

Updating the published date on an old post, without changing its URL, brings it back to the top of your blog, giving it new visibility.

How can AI help me update blog content?

AI tools (like ChatGPT) can:

Suggest updated headlines or meta descriptions

Rewrite intros and conclusions for clarity or engagement

Generate summaries, FAQs, or new sections

Analyze competitors and suggest gaps to fill

Help repurpose blog posts into social media content or newsletters

Can AI rewrite content without hurting SEO?

Yes, if done thoughtfully. Google rewards useful, helpful content, regardless of whether AI assisted in its creation. To protect SEO:

Keep the original URL (if it ranks)

Improve rather than replace H1s and meta descriptions

Add new internal links to and from relevant pages

Use AI to enhance clarity, depth, and engagement — not just fluff

Will updating content with AI affect SEO?

Absolutely—in a good way. Refreshing content with AI can help improve keyword relevance, readability, and user engagement, all of which contribute to better SEO performance over time.

What are the limitations of using AI in content refreshes?

AI can enhance speed and consistency, but it may lack nuanced understanding or creative insight. Human judgment is crucial for fact-checking, emotional tone, and brand alignment.

Header tags, which range from <h1> to <h6>, are HTML elements that justify different levels of headings within a webpage’s content hierarchy. They serve as signposts for both users and search engines, outlining the structure and flow of the content. In terms of SEO, HTML header tags play a crucial role in keyword optimization and content relevance. Search engines prioritize keywords found within header tags, particularly within the <h1> tag, as it indicates the primary topic or theme of the page.

This article helps you in properly utilizing header tags not only helps search engines understand the context of your content but also enhances the user experience by making it easier to scan and navigate through the information. Additionally, organizing content with clear and descriptive header tags can increase the likelihood of being featured in search engine snippets, which can further improve visibility and click-through rates. Furthermore, header tags contribute to web accessibility by providing structure and navigation cues for users with disabilities, such as those using screen readers. Therefore, incorporating header tags effectively is essential for optimizing both on-page SEO performance and user engagement on a website.

What are Header Tags in SEO?

Header tags in SEO refer to HTML elements used to structure and format headings and subheadings within a webpage’s content. These tags, ranging from <h1> to <h6>, help organize content hierarchically, indicating the importance of each heading level. In terms of SEO, header tags are significant because they provide context to search engines about the content of the page and help them understand the relevance of different sections. Additionally, header tags offer opportunities to include relevant keywords, which can improve the page’s visibility in search engine results. Properly utilizing HTML header tags can enhance the overall user experience by making the content more scannable and accessible, and this is where you need the expertise the most.

The Importance of Heading Structure

Heading structure is crucial for several reasons, some of which are explained below:

SEO Optimization: Properly structured headings help search engines understand the content and context of your webpage. Search engines give more weight to text within heading tags, particularly <h1> tags, so using relevant keywords in headings can improve your website’s search engine ranking.

User Experience: Clear heading structure makes it easier for users to navigate and understand your content. Visitors can quickly scan through headings to find the information they’re looking for, leading to a better user experience and increased engagement.

Accessibility: Heading structure is essential for accessibility, especially for users who rely on screen readers or other assistive technologies. Clear headings provide a logical structure that makes it easier for these users to navigate and understand your content.

Content Organization: Heading structure helps you organize your content in a logical and coherent manner. By using headings to break up your content into sections and sub-sections, you can make it easier for readers to follow along and digest the information.

Overall, proper heading structure is essential for SEO, user experience, accessibility, and content organization, making it a critical aspect of website design and optimization.

What are H1,H2,H3,H4,H5,H6 Header Tag?

Header tags, also known as heading tags, are HTML elements used to define headings and subheadings within a webpage’s content. They range from <h1> (the highest level heading) to <h6> (the lowest level heading). Here’s a brief overview of each:

<h1>: This is the highest-level heading and is typically used for the main title of the page. It carries the most importance in terms of SEO and content hierarchy.

<h2>: The second level heading is usually used for section titles or major headings within the content. It’s subordinate to <h1> but still carries significant weight.

<h3>: The third level heading, often used for sub-section titles or headings within <h2> sections. It further breaks down the content hierarchy.

<h4>: The fourth level heading, used for sub-sections within <h3> sections or for less significant headings within the content.

<h5>: The fifth level heading is used for sub-sections within <h4> sections or for even less significant headings within the content.

<h6>: The lowest level heading, typically used for minor headings or subheadings within <h5> sections or for the least significant headings within the content.

These tags help structure the content hierarchically, making it easier for both users and search engines to understand the organization and flow of the content on a webpage.

Why is the H1 Tag important?

The <h1> tag is important for several reasons:

SEO Importance: Search engines consider the <h1> tag as the main heading of a webpage, giving it significant weight in determining the page’s topic and relevance to search queries. Including relevant keywords in the <h1> tag can improve the page’s visibility and ranking in search engine results.

Content Hierarchy: The <h1> tag establishes the primary focus or topic of the page, setting the tone for the rest of the content. It helps users quickly understand the purpose of the webpage and what they can expect to find.

Accessibility: Screen readers and other assistive technologies use the <h1> tag to identify the main heading of a page. Clear and descriptive <h1> tags improve accessibility by providing users with disabilities a clear understanding of the page’s content and structure.

User Experience: Well-designed <h1> tags contribute to a better user experience by making it easier for visitors to grasp the main topic or theme of the webpage quickly. This aids in navigation and helps users find the information they’re looking for more efficiently.

Overall, the <h1> tag plays a crucial role in both SEO and user experience, making it an essential element of webpage design and optimization.

How many times can i use H1, H2, and H3 tags on a single page?

There isn’t a strict rule on the number of times you can use <h1>, <h2>, or <h3> tags on a single page, but it’s generally recommended to follow best practices for readability and on-page SEO. Here are some guidelines:

<h1> tag: Ideally, you should use the <h1> tag only once per page to denote the main heading or title of the content. This helps search engines understand the primary topic of the page. Using multiple <h1> tags can confuse search engines and diminish the importance of each heading.

<h2> tag: You can use multiple <h2> tags on a single page to divide the content into sections or sub-sections. Each <h2> tag should represent a significant section or topic within the page. Subsequently, you can use <h3> tags to further divide content within each <h2> section.

<h3> tag: Similar to <h2>, you can use multiple <h3> tags within each <h2> section to create sub-sections or headings. However, avoid excessive nesting of heading levels, as it can make the content harder to read and understand.

In summary, while there’s no strict limit on the number of times you can use heading tags, it’s essential to use them judiciously to maintain readability, hierarchy, and SEO best practices.

How To Optimize Header Tags on a Website

To optimize HTML header tags on a website, you can use various tools to identify issues and create reports. Tools like Screaming Frog, SEMrush, and Ahrefs can crawl your website to analyze header tag usage, identify missing or duplicate headers, and provide insights into keyword optimization. These tools offer features such as custom reports, visualizations, and export options to help you understand header tag issues comprehensively. By utilizing these tools, you can streamline the optimization process, track progress, and make data-driven decisions to improve the effectiveness of your header tags in enhancing SEO and user experience.

Also, optimizing header tags on a website involves several key steps to ensure they contribute effectively to on-page SEO optimization and improve overall user experience:

Use Descriptive and Relevant Content: Make sure each heading accurately reflects the content of the section it precedes. Use clear, descriptive language that conveys the topic or purpose of the section.

Prioritize Keywords: Incorporate relevant keywords into your header tags, especially in the <h1> tag, as it carries the most weight in terms of SEO. However, ensure that the keywords fit naturally within the context of the heading and don’t compromise readability.

Maintain Hierarchy: Follow a logical hierarchy for your header tags, starting with <h1> for the main title or heading of the page, followed by <h2>, <h3>, and so on, to denote sub-sections or headings within the content. This helps both users and search engines understand the structure of your content.

Avoid Keyword Stuffing: While it’s essential to include keywords in your header tags, avoid over-optimizing by stuffing them with excessive keywords. This can make the content appear spammy and harm your SEO efforts. Focus on creating valuable, relevant content that naturally incorporates keywords.

Optimize Length: Keep your header tags concise and to the point. Aim for informative yet brief headings that provide users with a clear idea of what to expect in each section. Avoid long, overly complex headings that may confuse or overwhelm readers.

Use CSS for Styling: Use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to control the visual appearance of your header tags, such as font size, color, and style. Ensure that your styling choices enhance readability and accessibility while maintaining consistency across your website.

Test and Iterate: Regularly review and test your header tags to ensure they are effectively contributing to your SEO and user experience goals. Monitor changes in search engine rankings and user engagement metrics to identify areas for improvement and iterate accordingly.

By following these optimization strategies, you can ensure that your header tags effectively contribute to your website’s SEO efforts and enhance the overall user experience for your visitors.

A Final Word

In conclusion, optimizing header tags is a critical aspect of website design and SEO. Header tags, ranging from <h1> to <h6>, provide structure and organization to your content, making it easier for both users and search engines to understand the hierarchy and relevance of information.

What Does FAQ Page Mean?

An FAQ page is a section on a website that stands for “Frequently Asked Questions.” It is a collection of common questions and answers pertaining to a specific topic or the services and products offered by the website. This page helps visitors find answers quickly and can reduce the number of customer service inquiries.

Where Does FAQ Page Fit Into The Broader SEO Landscape?

A FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page can significantly boost SEO by providing clearly answered questions that may be commonly searched by users. Such content can help the page rank for long-tail keywords and improve its authority and relevance. Search engines like Google can crawl these answers and may feature them in rich snippets or direct answers, potentially increasing the website’s visibility and click-through rate.

FAQ pages also contribute to a better user experience by directly providing the information that potential customers are seeking, which can increase time on site and reduce bounce rates. Additionally, well-organized FAQ pages provide internal linking opportunities to other relevant content on your site, aiding in site navigation and distributing page authority across your website. This strategy improves the crawlability of a site, allowing search engines to access and index more pages efficiently.

Embedding keywords naturally within questions and answers on FAQ pages also optimizes content for voice searches and conversational queries, aligning with the rise in spoken queries through digital assistants. Thus, FAQ pages serve as a measure not only to enhance your site’s SEO but also as a method to future-proof your site for evolving search trends.

Real Life Analogies or Metaphors to Explain FAQ Page

A FAQ page is like a Swiss Army knife for website visitors; each section unfolds to solve specific problems or answer questions they might encounter along their journey. It’s also akin to a pit stop in a race, where drivers quickly get the help they need before speeding off towards their destination – efficient, useful, and perfectly positioned.

How the FAQ Page Functions or is Implemented?

1. Content Structure: Organize questions based on common themes, starting from the most basic to more specific topics. This helps users navigate through sections smoothly.

2. Question Design: Phrase questions in a way commonly searched for by users. Use natural, conversational language to match voice search queries.

3. Answer Clarity: Provide clear, concise, and direct answers to the questions. Aim for brief responses, and where necessary, link to more detailed content.

4. Navigation Aids: Implement clickable questions or a sticky menu to enhance user navigation through the FAQ page. This allows quick access to different sections or questions without excessive scrolling.

5. Search Functionality: Include a search bar on the FAQ page that allows users to enter keywords and find relevant questions and answers quickly.

6. Schema Markup: Use FAQ schema markup to enable search engines to display questions and answers directly in search results, potentially increasing visibility and click-through rates.

7. Accessibility Features: Ensure text sizes are readable, and colors are accessible. Consider implementing keyboard navigation for users who do not use a mouse.

8. Regular Updates: Periodically update the FAQ page to reflect the most current information and include new questions that may have arisen.

9. Feedback Mechanism: Include a method for users to provide feedback on FAQs, such as rating the helpfulness of answers or suggesting additional questions.

10. Mobile Optimization: Design the FAQ page for optimal viewing on mobile devices, ensuring it is responsive and loads quickly across all device types.

Impact FAQ Page has on SEO

The presence of a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page can positively influence a website’s SEO performance, rankings, and user experience in several ways:

1. Keyword Optimization: FAQ pages allow for the natural inclusion of long-tail keywords, answering specific user queries. These keywords often have lower competition and can attract more targeted traffic.

2. Rich Snippets and Featured Snippets: Content from FAQ pages can be marked up with structured data to create rich snippets, which make the pages more visible and attractive in SERPs. Google can also pull answers from FAQ sections directly into featured snippets, which can increase click-through rates.

3. Reducing Bounce Rates: By providing direct answers to users’ queries, FAQ pages increase user engagement and satisfaction, which may reduce bounce rates and indicate to search engines that the website is providing valuable content.

4. Internal Linking: FAQs provide opportunities to link to other internal pages of the website, which helps distribute page authority and can improve the rankings of other pages.

5. Boosting Site Authority: By thoroughly answering frequently asked questions, a website can establish itself as an authoritative source of information, which can help improve overall trust and credibility with search engines.

6. Improving User Experience: FAQs can enhance the user experience by quickly addressing common concerns or questions visitors have, potentially decreasing support costs and increasing user satisfaction and retention.

7. Voice Search Optimization: As voice search becomes more popular, FAQ pages can be optimized to target conversational queries, which are common in voice search, thereby capturing more traffic from this medium.

8. Longer Dwell Time: Engaging and informative FAQ pages can keep visitors on the site longer, which might positively impact search rankings as it is an indication of content quality and relevance.

SEO Best Practices For FAQ Page

1. Identify the Main Topic and Relevant Keywords: Use keyword research tools to determine the main topic and relevant long-tail keywords that users are searching for related to your FAQ content.

2. Structure the FAQ Page: Organize questions using a logical structure, either by topic or by popularity. Ensure each question is clearly formulated and directly addresses common queries.

3. Optimize Question Titles: Treat each question as an H2 or H3 header to emphasize structure in HTML, ensuring you include target keywords naturally within these questions.

4. Craft Detailed Answers: Provide concise, authoritative answers. Include relevant keywords where they naturally fit but avoid keyword stuffing.

5. Use Schema Markup: Implement FAQ schema markup in your page’s HTML to help search engines understand the content and structure of your FAQs, which can lead to rich results in search engines.

6. Improve Page Load Speed: Ensure that the FAQ page loads quickly by optimizing images, leveraging browser caching, and minimizing the use of heavy scripts.

7. Ensure Mobile-Friendliness: Make sure the FAQ page is responsive and easy to navigate on all devices, especially mobiles.

8. Internal Linking: Use internal links to direct users to more detailed content related to each question if relevant, which can also help in distributing page authority throughout your site.

9. Optimize for Voice Search: Frame questions in a conversational tone, and answers should be succinct, reflecting how people naturally speak, as many users utilize voice search for queries.

10. Update Regularly: Keep the FAQ page updated with new questions based on users’ ongoing concerns and changes in your field, reflecting current trends and data.

11. Monitor and Analyze: Use tools like Google Analytics to track the performance of your FAQ page, analyzing metrics such as page views, average time on page, and bounce rate to refine and optimize further.

12. Implement Feedback Mechanisms: Allow and encourage users to rate the helpfulness of FAQs or submit their own questions, providing insights into potential improvements or additional content.

Common Mistakes To Avoid

1. Ignoring User Intent:
– Ensure questions are oriented towards user needs and commonly searched terms rather than simply serving business interests.

2. Overly Complex Language:
– Use clear, simple language that is easily understandable, avoiding jargon and technical terms without explanations.

3. Lack of Keyword Optimization:
– Integrate relevant keywords naturally into the questions and answers to improve search rankings.

4. Neglecting Structured Data:
– Use schema markup (FAQPage schema) to help search engines understand and display the FAQs directly in search results.

5. Insufficient Answers:
– Provide thorough, accurate answers that fully address the user’s question, avoiding overly brief or vague responses.

6. Failing to Update Frequently:
– Regularly update the FAQ page to reflect the most current information and incorporate new relevant questions.

7. Poor Organization:
– Categorize questions into logical groups or themes for easier navigation and comprehension.

8. Not Mobile-Friendly:
– Ensure the FAQ page is responsive and easy to navigate on mobile devices.

9. Lack of Internal Linking:
– Include links to related content within answers to enhance UX and encourage deeper site engagement.

10. Ignoring Analytics:
– Monitor page performance and user interaction using analytics to understand what works and what needs improvement.

11. Duplicate Content Issues:
– Avoid copying and pasting content from other parts of the site or external sources without modifications.

12. Not Promoting the FAQ Page:
– Include links to the FAQ section in relevant areas of your site and in your navigation menu to increase visibility.

13. No Feedback Mechanism:
– Provide a way for users to give feedback on FAQs to help identify areas for improvement and new topics to cover.

If you’re serious about optimizing your website for search, then you need to understand technical SEO.

Simply put, technical SEO is the process of making sure that search engines can discover, parse, and understand the content on your site. The better you get at technical SEO, the more likely you’ll get a high rank.

Technical SEO is a very fun and complex line of work. Here are some of the more common issues to look out for.

1. Duplicate Content

The Issue:

Duplicate content is when content appears in multiple places on the internet. It is a big no-no with the search engines. That’s why you need to make sure that your content is unique.

The Fix:

For blogs, website copy, or social media posts, take the time to run Copyscape to ensure it’s at least 70% unique. Take common template elements into account.

If you’re running an ecommerce site, resist that temptation to just copy product descriptions from the manufacturer’s website and paste them onto your own web pages.

It can be time-consuming to come up with unique descriptions for each of your products, especially if you’re selling thousands. But copying and pasting from an existing site will only get your site marked as spam because of the duplicate content.

If you really don’t have the time to write your own unique descriptions, hire a copywriter. This will be money well spent when it helps your page get a better rank.

2. Title And Description Problems

The Issue:

You forget to optimize your title tag and descriptions.

If you’re unfamiliar with the title tag, it lives up to its name. The content of the tag is the title of the web page. The description is located in the code and only shows up in the SERP.

Here are some of the technical SEO issues that can be caused by title tags and descriptions:

Duplicate tags

Missing tags or descriptions

Content so long that it all won’t appear in search results

From a technical perspective, these issues usually occur because of a misconfiguration on the website or they just were not filled in on a static page.

The Fix:

Go through these tags carefully. Be sure none of them are duplicated and all of them are complete. If they are too long, shorten them.

If there is a set of categories, tags or pagination that has no title tag rules associated with it, block, redirect, or optimize those URLs.

3. Broken Internal Links Technical SEO

The Issue:

Pay attention to your internal linking! It is very important when it comes to SEO.

But just as important as they are, broken internal links can cause chaos.

When a search bot crawls your site and finds broken links, that’s a strike against you. Earn enough strikes, and you could lose rank.

The Fix:

If you have a website with thousands of pages, you might think that it’s difficult to find any internal broken links. Fortunately, there are tools for that.

Enlist the aid of Screaming Frog or one of the other popular crawlers like Deepcrawl or SEM Rush. Let it work its magic on your site and present you with a report on all your broken links. Once you know which links are broken, you can get to work on fixing them.

4. Too Many On-Page Links

The Issue:

You’ve covered your page with too many links.

But how many on-page links are too many? This is a fairly heavily debated topic.

Yoast says 100 links and I think I would agree with them.

The Fix:

If you have over 100 on-page links, you need a better structure. Often what people will do is create a tiered footer sitemap.

A tiered footer sitemap will eliminate too many HTML sitemaps in the footer. It allows you to link to all your pages and keep the link count inline.

5. Low Text-to-HTML Ratio Technical SEO

The Issue:

You’ve ignored your text-to-HTML ratio on your site and now it’s out of alignment. If a page has way more HTML code than actual text, search engines will consider it thin content.

Why? Because users can’t see HTML. They only see content.

HTML is markup. It informs browsers how to display the content on your page. It also encloses Javascript code.

Users are visiting your website to check out its content. They aren’t there for the HTML. Users don’t come to your page for the HTML. They come for the content.

The Fix:

As a general rule, you want a good amount of unique text on each page.

Focus on quality unique content that will drive users to your page and hold their attention once they get there.

6. Missing Alt Tags

The Issue:

Way too many SEO strategists neglect to put alt tags on their images. That’s a mistake.

Alt tags are a throwback to the early days of web browsers and are very important for accessibility.

Today, search engines use alt tags to gather information about an image and make it so the visually impaired can have the image alt description read to them.

The Fix:

Review all of the existing images on your site. Be sure that each and every one of them have alt tag descriptions. If they don’t, add them.

Then get into the habit of using alt tags whenever you upload a new image to the site.

7. Broken Images

The Issue:

While I’m on the subject of images, let me also point out that broken images don’t just create a poor user experience but they can also hurt your rank.

If your website visitors are expecting to see an image, and instead they see nothing or, worse yet, a broken image icon, they’ll bounce away to a competitor’s site.

The Fix:

Luckily, there are tools you can use to help locate all of the broken images on your site.

Screaming Frog is one of your best options for this task. It will crawl the site and locate all of the missing images. Once you know which ones are missing, you can go in and fix or replace them.

8. Technical SEO Incorrect Language Declaration

The Issue:

Even though we are operating in a global market, a lot of people fail to declare the language in the HTML tag on the page.

In some cases, though, you might have copied HTML content from another site and pasted it onto your own. The HTML tag in that content might specify a different language than the one you’re using.

Whatever the reason, if you don’t have the language listed in the HTML tag, it can hurt your rank.

The Fix:

Be sure that your language is listed on the HTML tag.

For any new pages or sites, you develop, be sure to put this on your list.

9. Robots.txt File

The Issue:

Don’t forget about your robots.txt file! This incredibly important aspect of your SEO work is what prevents Google from crawling certain sections of your site.

It can be valuable in preventing duplicate content issues and restricting access to pages or sections you don’t want to be indexed.

However, if you don’t have sections of your site you want to keep blocked, you likely won’t need one. Also, keep in mind Google’s guidelines mention that you shouldn’t use a robots.txt to block pages from the search results.

The Fix:

Make sure you are using the file properly. If you do decide to use it, make sure nothing is blocked if it shouldn’t be and always be sure to include a link to your sitemap in the file.

10. Rel Canonical

The Issue:

There is something called a rel canonical that tells Google to consolidate pages. This helps prevent any duplicate content issues by indicating the preferred version of the page.

In all of the hustle and bustle of creating and developing your page, it’s very possible to forget about this process.

The Fix:

Avoid unwanted problems by ensuring that the rel canonical in the code points at the same page you want to be crawled and indexed by Google.

11. Noindex

The Issue:

Often, people will mistakenly noindex a website when they push a development environment live.

This process keeps Google from indexing, and therefore ranking, your site.

Look in the code and do a Control F to ensure there is not a noindex.

The Fix:

When preparing to take your site live, be sure that you’ve removed any noindex tags from your site’s HTML.

If you must use it on a page, be sure to follow the instructions listed on Google.

12. Pagination

The Issue:

Many times, there are issues with pagination on websites’ technical SEO.

In the past, some web developers used something called rel next rel prev. Google has since gotten rid of that process.

The Fix:

First, check the source code of your site to be sure that you are no longer using rel next rel prev.

If you want something that will work similarly to rel next rel prev, I’ve been recommending no indexing pages after the main category or putting a rel canonical page to the main page. I prefer the no index.

You can also create one main category landing page and then create smaller linked pages off of that main page.

13. Mobile Usability Errors

The Issue:

So many web developers, especially DIYers, will make sure that their site is showing up perfectly on a desktop but neglect to review their mobile site.

Your ranking will take a hit if your site isn’t mobile-user friendly.

The Fix:

Be sure that your site looks, loads, and works well on mobile devices. Since Google made the switch to mobile-first indexing, being mobile-user friendly is more critical than ever.

You can do this manually or by checking the mobile usability report In Google Search Console often. This report will show you any mobile-user errors. Fix them quickly before they affect your rank.

14. Technical SEO Sitemap Errors

The Issue:

Often, sitemaps will have errors when you submit them to Google Search Console.

You might have submitted a page that does a 404, submitted the wrong file type (Google accepts a few), or you could have submitted the wrong way.

The Fix:

Make sure you have a normal xml sitemap, an image sitemap, and a video sitemap at a minimum. Also, make sure you don’t submit more than 50,000 URLs, or you will need to create an index sitemap.

15. AMP Errors

The Issue:

Originally created as a competitor to Facebook Instant Articles and Apple News, Accelerated Mobile Pages are excellent for speed, but often create errors.

Some mobile platforms have started to discontinue the use of AMP altogether.

The Fix:

Check your configuration to ensure there are no errors in Google Search Console.

Google is actually starting to phase out AMP as SEO criteria. Start to consider removing the configuration completely and focusing more on page loading speed and other user-experience improvements.

16. No HTML Base

The Issue:

Often, people try to create headless content management systems, which means they use a content management system to manage the website instead of delivering content using another method. The problem is that these systems have no HTML base.

What does this mean? It means that if you turn off JavaScript, the page has nothing on it. If that’s the case, Google cannot pick up the page.

The Fix:

Avoid turning off JavaScript or erasing your own page of content by making sure all your pages have an HTML base.

17. Technical SEO Development Website In the Index

The Issue:

A development site ends up in the Google search index.

This one is more common than you’d think. Often, someone will forget to block their development site and it will end up getting indexed and affecting the site’s SERP ranking.

The Fix:

Make sure to perform a search for a piece of content on your site in Google. If you see your development site in the index, you know you’ll need to go back and block it from being listed.

18. Lazy Load Is Too Lazy

The Issue:

Lazy loading pages is a great way to speed up a site.

But if your lazy loading page doesn’t load enough content, you’ll lose the potential of that page ranking.

The Fix:

If you’re going to use lazy-loading to improve loading speed, make sure the most important HTML content is loaded first so it will be indexed.

19. Multiple Versions Of A Page Live

The Issue:

You would be surprised how often there are different versions of a page running live with a .html, .php, a forward slash, or no forward slash. Or, perhaps only one is live, but the others are 302 redirecting or still delivering a 200 OK for some reason.

Not only is this sloppy and confusing for users but it is also confusing for the indexing algorithm. And if the algorithm is confused about how to index your site, it often won’t.

The Fix:

It is important to make sure only one version of the page is live and that it has the correct status code.

20. H1 Tag Issues

The Issue:

H1 tags and title tags are both important aspects of on-page SEO. But it’s important to know the difference between the two.

H1 tags are the tags that are on your page and visible to your user. Title tags are the tags that appear in search results.

If you have too many H1s, you’ll run into an issue with indexing.

The Fix:

Check out your site and make sure you don’t have multiple H1 tags. Each page should have one unique H1 that is between 20-70 characters long, reflects the page’s content, and uses your targeting keyword.

21. Ignoring Meta Descriptions

The Issue:

Often an afterthought, meta descriptions are so important to your SEO. Think of them as another way to provide content for Google’s index crawlers to use.

The Fix:

This fix is simple! Always be sure to incorporate a meta description that is approximately 150 words, including any important keywords.

22. Using Meta Refresh

The Issue:

Meta refresh used to be the way to direct users to another page. It is now considered outdated. Using this process could negatively affect your ranking.

The Fix:

Instead of using the Meta Refresh, opt for a 301 redirect. Google has come out and said that a meta refresh no longer carries the same benefits as a 301 redirect. This could cause issues with your site’s SEO. Eliminate any issues by completely removing all Meta Refresh links.

23. Not Using Enough Content Words in Your Content

The Issues:

Low word count is a huge problem! When writing your copy, you want to be brief and simple but you also need to go a little bit in depth with your content so that Google has something to work with when they’re indexing your site.

The Fix:

Up your word content!

Look at your content marketing strategy and add more long-form content. Aim for articles that are between 1,500 and 4,000 words to increase your odds of getting a better ranking

Remember to avoid duplicate content here! Don’t write words for the sake of writing words. You want long-form quality and original content here.

24. Suspicious Link Practices Best Practices

The Issue:

Link building is key to surviving in the digital arena.

Some SEO strategists will tell you to use “black hat” link-building strategies such as link exchanges. This is when you get a lot of backlinks quickly. But these backlinks are never good. Often, they are low-quality links that will tank your ranking, not improve it.

The Fix:

Avoid buying or selling backlinks. Don’t use automated programs or services.

Focus on growing your content organically so that you’ll start to receive quality backlinks.

And Much More

Technical SEO issues are very common and this is just a small list of some of the major problems to look out for.

To keep on top of any issues, make sure to run your website crawls monthly and continuously work on improving the site.

In SEO, you never want to fall behind from a technical perspective.

Every week a new marketing tactic is unleashed on the public. It seems the best way for a marketer to establish themselves as an “expert” is to come up with a new method or technique.

In reality, the world of digital marketing moves slower than it seems. As “growth hackers” race around trying to discover a newer, easier way of building website traffic, the rest of us just do what works.

The panic in the marketing world is based on the false idea that if you’re doing what works and not experimenting with new methods, you will eventually lose. While it’s true, you can’t become a dinosaur, it’s really not that dramatic.

The best marketers are the ones who know what is working right now. And, they fight the shiny object syndrome while keeping their nose to the grindstone.

Great marketing is often more elbow grease and less lottery-style viral explosions. It’s not as sexy or exciting as the thought of posting a single article that brings millions of visits overnight – which happens very seldom. But these tactics are stable, reliable, and effective.

How to Increase Organic Traffic Without Buying Ads or Building Backlinks

First, a small rant: marketers ruin everything, including SEO.

We started by discovering that backlinks drove massive SEO power on Google. So, we learned how to build thousands of backlinks, and to even automate that process.

The result was a bunch of junk at the top of Google search. Google dropped the hammer, and many marketers claimed link building was “dead.”

Then, some hustler decided to go back to one-to-one link building, manually contacting bloggers and web admins to get links added to their content. And, it worked!

Then, they wrote about how it worked – and the crowd of zombie marketers followed. Now, I get multiple messages a day, all “personalized” to me, from marketers asking me to include links to their content inside of mine.

Yes, marketers are now ruining one-on-one relationship building by trying to automate it.

You can’t automate everything. The tactics we continue to use rely more on sweat equity than gambling or spamming.

If you want to build organic traffic without building backlinks or paying for ads, these tactics will work for you. Just realize that content marketing is not a get-traffic-quick scheme – it’s a long-term strategy.

Proof This Strategy Works

This is a chart that shows the growth of organic traffic across all of our clients. When we mash all their statistics together, this is what their organic traffic looks like.

When Long-Term Growth Isn’t Fast Enough

This is a company who wanted “quick wins” rather than a long-term, consistent strategy — and their traffic has seen no growth in two years. Imagine where they would be if they had executed this strategy for the past 24 months.

Building Organic Traffic Using Only On-Site SEO

Step 1: Audit and Correct On-Site SEO

The first thing you need to do is audit your website for on-site SEO. The tool I like to use is Screaming Frog, but there are others out there that can do the same thing.

In a nutshell, this is what you’re looking for:

Page Titles:

Do they include keywords?

Do they sound interesting enough to click on?

Page URLs:

Do they include keywords?

Meta Descriptions:

Do they include keywords?

Do they act as a compelling lede to your content?

Image Alt Tags:

Do they include keywords?

Heading Tags:

Are you using H1’s and H2’s in your content?

Do they include keywords?

Are they used to naturally break the content up into bite-size chunks?

Every important page on your website needs to be meticulously audited and optimized for search.

Step 2: Identify Your Crown Jewel Search Terms

What are the 3-6 terms that get a lot of search traffic but are considered rankable for your brand?

These will be your primary search terms, or Crown Jewel SEO keywords.

For instance, one of our Crown Jewels is “inbound marketing,” and another is “growth driven design.” Those are two terms we want to rank for, and though they are definitely a challenge, we are working to get to the top of Google for those terms, among a handful of others.

Once you identify those key terms, move on to step 3.

Step 3: Build Anchor Pages for Crown Jewel Terms

What is an anchor page? It’s a page designed to rank #1 in Google for a specific term, and to be a contextual anchor for all relevant content.

Look at the top 5-6 results for your Crown Jewel search term – you need to create a page that is more valuable and packed with more helpful content than all of those pages. If you want to really win, it should be more valuable than all those pages combined.

We want to rank this page to #1, and we’re not relying on gimmicks to do it. We’re going to earn that top spot by deserving it – and that will help us keep it long-term as well.

Your anchor page should be the best, most informative page on the internet for that Crown Jewel search.

Step 4: Build Topic Clusters Around Your Crown Jewel Keywords

What is a topic cluster? It’s a cluster of topics around a specific, central topic. If you’re wanting to build traffic around inbound marketing, for instance, you will have a wide range of topics associated with that – much like the topic of this page.

Actually, that was a quick graphic from AnswerthePublic.com – which is a great tool, but it shouldn’t be where you stop. You can use it to kickstart ideas, but ultimately, you want to use keyword research and Google Suggest to build a huge list of long-tail topics.

Step 5: Build a Publishing Calendar

Now that you’ve identifies a ton of topics to create content about, you can start building a publishing calendar strategy.

I like to work on 90-day strategies – 4 strategies a year. This means I will go through the strategy process four times every 12 months, and then spend the rest of my time executing on this strategy.’

We have found through experimentation that publishing once a week grows traffic, but very slowly. Multiple times, we have increased publishing from once a week to twice a week and witnessed a night and day difference in traffic growth.

So, take it from me, you want to plan to publish at least twice a week. Most of the time, this ends up being somewhere between 8 and 10 articles a month.

Choose the dates each of your blog posts will go live, and the dates each blog post should be finished writing, editing, and loading into your content management system.

And then, stick to the plan.

Step 6: Hyperlink Religiously

You have anchor pages that sit at the root of your entire SEO strategy. All of your content should be on topics associated with those anchor pages. You need to send Google the signals of the pages and context of your website.

So, hyperlink your pages and posts together in a ever-growing web of links.

In every blog post, if you use a Crown Jewel term (or a close variation of that term) hyperlink it to your anchor page. If you use the term multiple times in the same post, you don’t need to hyperlink every one of them, but it doesn’t hurt to link a couple times per page.

Need an example? Look above where we mention inbound marketing the first time. See what I just did there?

You need to send a ton of contextual links to your anchor pages. Then, you also need to interlink your content.

Step 6: Be Consistent, Long Term

The important thing is consistency – so when you set your calendar, make the decision to stick with it for at least 12 months. In the beginning, growth will be slow – but you will start to see signs of life after 3 months – and even more exciting growth picking up around 8-12 months.

If you follow this strategy for 8 months, and you don’t see results, you probably need to examine the quality of your content and make sure it’s actually helpful rather than “salesy.”

Here’s a case study of a client where we used this strategy, and this strategy alone. no link building. No paid traffic. Just on-site work and content marketing. We started publishing about once a week, but the growth was slow. So, we picked it up to two a week and it started to skyrocket within a couple months. You can read all about it in the case study.

This works.

It’s not a “quick win,” and it’s not a gimmick that brings a ton of results quickly. But, when executed over time, it brings a consistent growth rate and is the keystone strategy that’s helping us 10X our clients traffic, leads, and customers.

The Connection Between Your Social Media And SEO Ranking Results

Are you thinking of how you can leverage social media and even combine it with your content strategy to improve Search Engine Optimization (SEO) rankings? If you want to boost your SEO campaign using social media, then this article is for you! In the following lines, I’ll share practical tips on how to use social media and SEO to improve rankings and nail your campaigns.

All content marketers know that improving SEO strategy is critical when you want to increase your search visibility and Google ranking. However, the competition is vast. Thus, showing up on search results becomes an even bigger challenge. Primarily because more and more content gets published every day.

Of course, social media don’t directly contribute to your SEO ranking, but every link you share across different social platforms certainly increases your brand exposure. Thus, it adds up and influences Search Engine Optimization in multiple directions. Most importantly, getting shares on social media generates social signals that act as an indication of how helpful your posts are to your target market.

In fact, based on research by CognitiveSEO that analyzed 23 million social media shares on selected platforms, there seems to be an equivocal link between social shares and SEO. What they found out is that the shares, likes, and comments your posts receive are vital signals that search engines, including Google, use to rank your website. If these are not exciting findings, then I don’t know what is!

So, let’s get a bit deeper into the connection between social media and SEO and how this affects your search engine rankings.

Social Media And SEO: 7 Ways You Can Combine These Powerful Tools To Boost Your Visibility

Social media might not directly contribute to your SEO ranking, but you can increase brand exposure by sharing links to your content across different social platforms. These actions add up and can influence Search Engine Optimization in several ways. For example, you get to have extensive content distribution and a longer lifespan for your posts. While increasing brand recognition and enhancing brand reputation, you’ll manage to improve your online visibility and organic traffic. Plus, leveraging social media is also good for boosting local Search Engine Optimization.

So, here are 7 ways to get the most out of social media and SEO.

1. Social Media Mentions And Rankings

According to Google’s Gary Illyes, the context in which you engage online, as well as how people talk about you online, can impact what you rank for. As you can understand, Google might use online mentions of a brand to determine which keywords you should get top positions for. Thus, social media success is a factor that can influence your SEO.

However, let’s always keep in mind that Google is constantly looking for the right metrics. So, your plan should be to get people to talk about your brand and your unique selling points. Again, content strategy is very important and is highly related to search intent and your target audience. As people visit your website to solve their pain points, they will share interesting information with their peers.

2. Viral Articles And How They Impact Rankings

Imagine that you publish an article that skyrockets on Facebook. Say, for example, that you get multiple thousands of shares, likes, and comments. Don’t you think this would affect your article’s performance?

I’ve seen it happen plenty of times and, usually, the result is that such articles have the potential to go up in rankings. In fact, a viral article can actually get you a #1 position on page one of Google for several keywords. So, it’s fair to say that marketers cannot underestimate the power of engaging viral content.

Best of all, content that gets shared a lot can help your post claim the first place for your preferred keyword terms. That’s why I love content that gets thousands of shares on social media. What’s more, this type of content also has the potential to attract more quality backlinks.

On this note, one good share or retweet can make a huge impact on your article’s traffic. So, it’s really important to start promoting to the right people. And obviously, niche influencers can make the biggest difference by sharing it. That said, social media and SEO have a meaningful connection.

3. The Best Social Media For SEO

Modern marketers should feel lucky that there are so many social media platforms for SEO! All the apps and sites below make great SEO social media marketing channels, primarily because of their popularity and high ranks in search engines.

Here are some of the social media you can’t live without:

Medium

Facebook

LinkedIn

Twitter

YouTube

Quora

Pinterest

Reddit

As more and more users seek information about a brand or company directly via their social media profiles, it’s safe to say that the official website isn’t the only place to be found. What I like most about social networks is that they offer a personal touch and let you use your brand voice. Plus, they allow you to have a faster response time.

Best of all, by utilizing social media, your business can expand its outreach and help you connect with more potential buyers. One thing to keep your eye on here: your target audience uses various ways to get insights into your company. That also means there’s a distinct audience hanging out on each social media channel.

4. Social Media Profile Optimization

Let’s be honest; most of your potential clients will get a closer look at your social media profiles before they even reach out to you. That means they’ll examine several aspects of how you present yourself or your brand to the world. Social media is your digital voice, so potential clients can see all about your brand values and what you stand for.

And because we all know that first impressions matter, there are several parameters and social media KPIs you need to keep in check. For one, you should ask yourself if your profile is compelling. After all, it’s your digital identity. So, it has to be visually appealing, right? Not to mention describing what you’re known for.

Also, it would be amazing to have all the right hooks on it to attract the right people. Try to search your name on Google. Will it appear? If not, you’re doing something wrong. The importance of keywords is also huge here. For example, if you’re a SaaS expert or a consultant on a certain topic, you want potential clients to be able to easily find you. Then, you have to add relevant keywords to your profile info.

You see, the lack of profile optimization is one of the many factors that can negatively impact social media for SEO. So, don’t neglect to optimize your social media profiles. That is if you don’t want to miss out on new sales opportunities by preventing your name or your brand from appearing on searches throughout the web.

Trust me, having a well-optimized social profile will make it easy for your target market to find you online. Make sure to keep it consistent across channels and perfectly aligned with your blog or website and brand message.

5. Publishing High-Quality Content That Engages Is Key

As SEO continues to evolve, search marketing is also shifting to new dimensions. Here’s what content marketers need to understand for success in SEO rankings:

User intent

Content relevance

Quality

The above major factors are what Google uses to evaluate, identify, and offer users the most relevant content. All are based on the respective search query. So, keyword stuffing is a long-forgotten practice. Instead, content marketers should focus on publishing quality content that answers people’s questions. If you want to make your blog content perform well on social media and SEO, you must focus on doing thorough research before you start creating your content. Make it a priority to focus on search intent.

Publishing blog posts every day will do you no good if they are not valued by Google and the search queries. Instead, you can spend your time wisely doing in-depth SEO content research. Then start creating material that will help your readers connect with your brand.

So, if you want to create quality content, you must understand your ideal reader. That’s why you should consider getting deeper into buyer personas. It will help you to better understand their needs. Only then can you create content that solves their pain points. Another approach you can take is to update old blog content in order to increase its quality and value.

For example, your can gather all your best-performing blog posts and decide where and if you can add more valuable data. Your main goal should be to spike engagement on social media. By utilizing this strategy, you get one more way of increasing social signals to improve your SEO. Are there any underperforming blog posts? Good. Find them and give them a face-lift!

And remember, improving SEO with user personas is key.

6. Making Engaging Content That Gets More Shares

People use social media platforms for many different reasons. But for us marketers, it’s the perfect way to reach more customers with our brand message. Who doesn’t want to reach more people, grow brand awareness and generate leads, right?

By using social share buttons and compelling calls-to-action (CTAs), you can incentivize readers to share your content with their friends and peers. You see, when you make it easy for users to share your content, you’ll start reaching more potential buyers.

So, make it your goal to use all the right components so that your blog encourages social sharing. In the end, it’s what will effectively increase your reach. And the same goes for when you post on social media sites. Always make sure to use CTAs to help your followers reshare your posts.

Of course, just crafting catchy copy and using the right CTAs is not enough. You have to write by keeping your audience in mind. How do they think? What do they care about? If you publish content that is not relevant or valuable to them, they have no reason to share it.

Also, you have to ensure that your content is share-worthy. If you make it as appealing and engaging as you can, you’ll witness your target market responding and sharing.

Here are some parameters to focus on for more sharable content:

Craft compelling headlines and/or captions

Use appealing visuals and appealing CTAs

Ensure that your social audience finds it useful

If you follow the above approach, your audience will have no choice but to share your posts with friends and followers. That’s the power of social media and SEO!

7. Use Active Social Conversations To Build Relationships

If you want to increase engagement on your social accounts, your goal should be to build relationships. Forging a brand-customer alliance can give you so much leverage if you do it right.

By building relationships with your audience, you can foster trust and establish credibility for your brand. Also, you’ll have one more way to understand your target buyer and their needs. Hence, utilizing meaningful conversations enables you to discover their pain points and help them to solve them.

That’s why I’ve mentioned plenty of times that you need to have the end user in mind. It’s not about your brand. It’s about how your brand can show actual interest in their struggles. Trust me; by doing so, you’ll make it so much easier for your audience to engage with you!

But why wait for your marketing persona to come to you if you can reach out to them first? This year, focus on taking the initiative and striking up a conversation with your audience. Make it count!

For example, you can ask relevant questions to know what they think about your brand. Or maybe you can ask for their thoughts about your latest blog post. Also, go through your social media and see if there are any questions they might have asked. Then provide helpful answers to show you care. Responding to users’ comments is key. Finally, you can create a poll to understand what they would like to read next on your blog.

Having discussions like these with your audience is essential for improving your SEO. Mainly because you offer useful information and also establish your industry expertise. Such a strategy will help you increase engagement and grow your followers. Plus, you’ll get to improve other social media signals that Google uses to rank your site.

Summing Up

As you can understand, getting hundreds or even thousands of shares, likes, backlinks, and comments becomes a valuable social signal for search engine algorithms. And that, my friends, is what influences your SEO rankings in the long run. Not to mention that Google actually uses such signals in favor of your site. That is what makes the algorithm push your article up in the rankings. The main takeaway from this is that social media can indeed have a huge impact on your SEO rankings.
