Seomun Market is Daegu’s largest traditional market — and it’s huge. Located near Seomun Market Station (Daegu Subway Line 3), the market spans six zones with over 4,000 shops.

This was the most memorable stop of our Daegu trip. There were so many kinds of street food, and everything was delicious.

The red fish cake tasted just like tteokbokki,

and the rice cake skewers were chewy and comforting.

The sujebi was rich and warm — perfect for a cold day.

Freshly baked castella was soft, fluffy, and perfectly sweet.

And of course, Seomun Bingsu, famous for its fun names:

pickled radish bingsu, bibimbap bingsu, and cubed radish bingsu 😂

The “pickled radish” is actually mango bingsu,

served with milk ice and roasted soybean powder — surprisingly good.

Peanut snacks were the perfect market treat,

and Yakbap was generously topped with chestnuts, jujubes, and pine nuts.

If you’re traveling to Daegu, Seomun Market is a must-visit.

We visited Sancheong Charcoal Garden, a well-known BBQ restaurant located in Euljiro. This place specializes in charcoal-grilled pork made with premium Jirisan black pork, and is especially popular among locals.

Waiting is usually required — even on a weekday afternoon, we waited about an hour.
However, you can check the waiting time and your place in line through the CatchTable app, which makes the process much easier.

The retro-style interior adds to the charm, perfectly matching Euljiro’s nostalgic atmosphere.

A thoughtful touch: plastic covers are provided to store outerwear, helping prevent barbecue smells from sticking to your clothes.

Side dishes such as pollock roe ssamjang, pickled vegetables, and seasoned green onions are neatly prepared to pair perfectly with the meat.

The salt-grilled pork was juicy with a subtle smoky flavor, while the gochujang-marinated pork offered a deliciously spicy kick.

Definitely worth the wait. If you’re visiting Euljiro, this spot is highly recommended.

After a few days of fermentation, the result was a cool, cloudy drink — tangy, refreshing, and full of life.

That was then.

Now, this old "farmer's alcohol" has turned glamorous.

🌾 From Fields to Fine Dining

Makgeolli (막걸리), often called Korea's "rice beer," was traditionally made by farmers and enjoyed during saecham (새참) — a mid-day break from the fields. The recipe was simple: cook rice until about 70% done, mix with yeast and water, and leave it to ferment in an earthenware pot for several days. Once strained, what remained was a milky, slightly fizzy brew with around 4% alcohol — light enough to sip, yet strong enough to feel.
