The on-and-off-again remake for the 1994 movie The Crow, starring Brandon Lee, has been plagued with issues by the studios involved. Apparently all has been settled and the movie will seemingly go on.

“The lawsuit between Relativity Media and The Weinstein Company concerning THE CROW has been amicably settled out of court, and the parties will continue to work on the film together as planned. In addition, Relativity Media has dismissed all of its claims against The Weinstein Company for any wrongdoing regarding the release and distribution of NINE, and The Weinstein Company has dismissed all of its claims against Relativity Media.”

At one point Bradley Cooper was set to play the title role, but some time has passed since those days and it's unclear at this time where the project is headed.

'Psycho' Gets A TV Prequel Series

Much like the 1987 TV movie Bates Motel, A&E is resurrecting the idea for their network. Here's the latest...

A&E is continuing its push into scripted programming, developing series projects based on the famed hotel featured in Psycho and a Danish format about serial killers.
The network Friday announced it is in early development on Bates Motel, a potential series from Universal Television for A&E that would serve as a prequel to the Alfred Hitchcock 1960 classic Psycho.
The series would offer an understanding into how Norman Bates' psyche developed and would tell the back story of the film's killer, learning of how his mother, Norma, and her lover damaged him, transforming him into serial-killing motel owner. Anthony Perkins played Norman in the film.
Anthony Cipriano penned the script.
The project is not the first time a Psycho spinoff effort has been attempted. NBC aired a 90-minute TV movie titled Bates Motel in 1987.

Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the scoop.

The full plot synopsis for Re5ident Evil: Retribution has been revealed, as well as a slight title change (adding a '5' in place of the 's' [I'm sure it'll look better capitalized]).

The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

The new lead character has been found for The Evil Dead remake. The original franchise's lead was Bruce Campbell who's character name was Ash, a girl's name. So, naturally, this time around, the lead will be a girl. Please welcome...Lily Collins.

Ghost House and Mandate Pictures are going BIG with their casting for their forthcoming remake of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead, which begins lensing this March in New Zealand.

Bloody Disgusting has learned exclusively that Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest, Mirror Mirror) is in final negotiations to play "Mia" in FilmDistrict's reboot aiming for release on April 12, 2013.

*Update* Mia is the LEAD, and is the female version of Ashley J. Williams (Ash), once donned by Bruce Campbell in the original trilogy. To reveal more would ruin the movie.

In this version, the story centers on five friends (David, Natalie, Eric, Olivia, and Mia) holed up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead with a demonic force unleashed possessing each until only one is left to fight for survival. As we also exclusively reported, there is a drug subplot.

As previously explained, David is a mechanic and is engaged to Natalie. Mia is the friend who is heading to the cabin to detox; Olivia is her best friend/nurse. Eric, presumably, is the kid who unleashes the demons.

After a recent overdose, Mia struggles with her new-found sobriety. She begins acting insane, so it comes as no surprise that nobody believes her crazy claims of coyote dogs and trees attacking her!

So it's officially official, Paranormal Activity 4 has been confirmed...

This morning Paramount Pictures sent out a press release announcing that they earned $5.17 billion at the box office worldwide. Hiding within the story was a brief paragraph confirming that a fourth Paranormal Activityis well on the way (obviously).

We had previewed this title, among several others, in our Paramount Pictures 2012 horror movie preview.
The Paranormal Activity franchise has pulled in approximately $577 worldwide at the box office alone making it a near billion dollar franchise when you include home video. PA 3 took in a whopping $200 million worldwide, making a fourth film an obvious conclusion.

The second trailer for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises has been released.

This isn't exactly anything "new" to anyone who has payed any attention to the development of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man, but take this as confirmation: Webb's movie is not a remake of Raimi's...just a reboot of the series with a new origin story.

"I don't have a problem saying that word," says director Marc Webb. "It's
not a remake, we're not making Sam's movie again. It's a different
universe and a different story with different characters. There are
certain mythological obligations people have in any story, but it's so
radically different in terms of tone and what Peter Parker experiences
that I'm very comfortable with the movie occupying a different space."

"I wanted to start from a place where it felt like, if you walked into the theatre, that it was the same universe you lived in," says the director. "Which is difficult when you have a giant lizard running down the street..."

"He's the literal embodiment of the theme of the movie, which is we all have a missing piece," says Webb. "He
has no arm. Peter has no parents, and he fills that void with
Spider-Man. Curt is not as strong as Spider-Man on the inside, but he
wants to get back his arm and fill that void, and essentially he becomes
a big bully."

Enough tell, Webb decides. It's time for some show, and so he asks
Bell to cue up some scenes from his early, very rough, very unfinished
cut. "The movie
starts off pretty small and gradually merges into something that's more
fantastic and vibrant and filled with scope," he says, and by way of
illustration, runs three scenes in which we see Spider-Man swing. The
first is entirely practical, with Garfield - in Parker duds - swinging
around inside a disused warehouse, with the giant wired rig to which the
whooping actor is attached yet to be deleted via CGI.

The second, from a little later in the film, is the only sequence
Empire sees that is even somewhat redolent of Raimi-vision, as
Spider-Man swings giddily along a bridge in pursuit of something, even
running briefly on the side of a passing truck.

The third one, though, shows that Webb hasn't abandoned CG. Far from
it. The sequence - which is from the third act so we'll be sure to
tread carefully - features Spider-Man in pursuit of The Lizard (here
seen just once, in very rough animatic form, from a distance as he
scales a building), while being pursued himself by cops. Following an
excellently staged fight with the cops, and an emotionally charged
confrontation with, erm, A Major Character, the sequence follows a
wounded Spider-Man as he tries desperately to swing across New York in
order to save the day.

One thing's for sure - Twilight it ain't. "I haven't seen a Twilight movie, so i don't know how to comment on that," says Webb. "People
may assume because it's me doing Spider-Man, it's more intimate. And it
is, but one of the reasons I wanted to do it was to [frick]ing blow
shit up, swing through the air and kick some ass."

Webb's Amazing Spider-Man will plant Peter firmly in his teenage
years. He doesn't have a job (the Daily Bugle is mentioned, but won't be
seen until the inevitable sequel), he likes to skateboard, he has
uncontrollable hair, he's a kid searching for the truth about his
parent's disappearance.

Since when did movies that were released in 2000 start being remade? Well, here's one that I know of. One of my all-time personal favorites, American Psycho, has been slapped on the remake chopping block. Ugh...

Noble Jones, who cut his teeth directing commercials, videos for Taylor
Swift and Mary J. Blige, and handling second unit for David Fincher on The Social Network, hopes to make his feature directing debut on an updated low budget remake of American Psycho. Jones, who was Grammy nominated for his documentary 10 Days Out: Blues From the Backroads,
is a Fincher protege who pitched the project months ago to Lionsgate,
which holds the remake rights. Jones turned in a script about a month
ago, but the project has suddenly become buzzed about because it hit the
tracking reports that have become the cornerstone of trade reporting.
His take was to tap the Bret Easton Ellis novel and turn it into a down
and dirty new version that imagines how yuppie serial killer Patrick
Bateman would fare in New York today, factoring in how the world has
changed since the 2000 film that starred Christian Bale. Noble’s repped
by WME and Anonymous Content.

Thanks to Deadline for the scoop.

'American Reunion' Poster Is A Stellar Throwback To Original

The newest poster for American Reunion is, in my opinion, one of (if not the) best posters for any type of "reunion" or "...years later" movie. It is a stellar throwback to the original American Pie's poster/one sheet. Check out both of them below.

Actor/Comedian Robin Williams recently spoke to Moviehole about a few sequels he has been attached to over the years, and let us know exactly where they stand. Specifically, he talks Mrs. Doubtfire 2, The Birdcage 2, and Good Morning Chicago. Oh, and a "final" word on Flubber 2...

Caught up with one of my favourites from the world of TV (“And look
at that, it’s a Ronald Reagan pen, it’s got no point”) and film (“I just
want to begin by saying to Roosevelt E. Roosevelt, what it is, what it
shall be, what it was. The weather out there today is hot and shitty
with continued hot and shitty in the afternoon. Tomorrow a chance of
continued crappy with a pissy weather front coming down from the north.
Basically, it’s hotter than a snake’s ass in a wagon rut.”) this
afternoon, Mr Robin Williams, for a chat
(that’ll run here in full in a few days) and got some updates on some
of those long-gestating sequels that the Oscar Wining actor and
perilously talented comedian has been attached to over the years, to see
what’s still on and what’s off.
Mrs Doubtfire 2
Even with Williams’s Jumanji co-star and talented actress Bonnie Hunt on scripting duties, it just didn’t come together.
Williams : “They could never write it. They kept
trying and it doesn’t work.. because at the end of the first one they
reveal who [Mrs Doubtfire] is. So it ends up being her for five minutes
and then she transitions into some old Russian woman. They so far can’t
crack it.”
Good Morning Chicago
Nobody’s ever been quite sure whether this one, a supposed sequel to
Good Morning Vietnam (1987), was a real project or somewhat of an urban
legend.
Williams : “That was actually real. They were trying
to write it. It was based around the democratic convention in Chicago.
Part of it worked, Part of it didn’t work because it’d be him dealing
with the politics of revolt in Chicago at the time… but anyway, they did
do [the script] but it didn’t all work. It was also a matter of trying
to find someone to back it. It was almost there. It was a great idea!
thanks for reminding me! Wow.”
The Birdcage 2
Unlike Good Morning Chicago and Mrs Doubtfire 2, Williams is more
inclined to believe something could be cooking with a Birdcage sequel.
Williams : “They’re trying to figure out which [story] to write for that. We will see what happens”.
There’s also, despite the rumours, no “Flubber” sequel in the works
nor has Williams been approached to lend his lungs to a third “Happy
Feet” yet.

We knew this was going to happen eventually...Bradley Cooper confirms that The Hangover Part III is happening. And this is what is known as of now...

These guys had a couple of years to sober up and it looks like they’re ready for round three. In 2009, when “The Hangover”
hit cinemas, the Warner Bros. comedy about three groomsmen who lose
their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, made
tons of cash at the box office. It was no surprise that two years later,
a sequel was spawned, following the exact same premise except this
time, was set in Thailand.
Since the sequel grossed $200 million, there was of course talk of a third film back in June. At the time, most of the cast have said that they think the next film should be set in Amsterdam.
Fast forward to today, and Bradley Cooper has confirmed to the National Ledger that a third “Hangover” could be coming soon.
Cooper revealed filming on the third installment should begin next
September (2012) and he believes the film will be set in California.
He tells TV host Graham Norton, “I hope we’ll start shooting next September. I know (director) Todd Phillips
is working on the script. We stuck to the formula in the second one
but the third would need to close the trilogy. I think it’ll take place
in L.A. and not adhere to the structure.”
Glad they won’t be sticking to the same routine this time around. The
second one was funny and all, but the same old thing can only work for
so long.

Sony Pictures has obtained a few web domains concerning Insidious 2 -- and thus, a sequel must be in the works...right? Not necessarily, but nonetheless, here's the latest...

A sequel appears to be in the works for the best cost-to-gross ratio movie of the year “Insidious”.
Horror movie fans may have something to look forward to in 2012 after
Sony Pictures hinted that “Insidious 2″ is in production, after the
company registered a handful of domains like Insidious2movie.com, Insidious2.net, and Insidious2-movie.net.
All three domain names were registered on November 28, 2011, through the internet brand protection company MarkMonitor.
“Insidious” cost $1.5 million to produce and worldwide grossed $97,009,150.
Last May, rumors of a sequel began swirling around the internet, but nothing definite was ever announced.
At the time of this posting, Sony Pictures has not said anything official, nor do any of the domains resolve to a web page.

Christian Bale spared some time to talk a little about this co-stars in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises. Bale also confirmed that this is the last time he will play the caped crusader.

LOS ANGELES – Christian Bale was in a good mood in our recent
interview with him. The actor, who can be terse and very serious, was
all smiles throughout our talk.
Christian refused to answer some questions in previous interviews,
but in this chat at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, no such moment
came. He revealed new details about “The Dark Knight Rises” and shared
his thoughts about director Chris Nolan and some of his costars,
including Anne Hathaway (Catwoman), Tom Hardy (Bane) and Joseph
Gordon-Levitt (John Blake).
The 2011 Oscar and Golden Globe Best Supporting Actor winner for his
terrific work in “The Fighter” dished about his upcoming two films that
reunite him with his “The New World” director, Terrence Malick (whom he
calls Terry). He also shared his personal insights about working with
Zhang Yimou in China in “The Flowers of War,” a Best Foreign Film
contender in this awards season.
Long list
First on our topic list was his new “Dark Knight” castmates. Since
it’s quite a long list of accomplished actors, we asked him to zero in
on Anne, Tom and Joseph.
“I had plenty of scenes with Anne,” Christian began. “And I was there
when we did the screen test for her. The thing that I said to Chris
[Nolan] that day was that there were many very accomplished actresses
who had read for the role. I’m terrible at auditions, so I’m very
impressed when somebody really seems to acquire an ownership of a
character without having worked on it or prepared for some amount of
time.”
Hardest job

“I saw that in Anne,” he added. “When Chris watched
the screen test, he agreed that Anne did a wonderful job. In many ways,
she has the hardest job. There are a number of people who feel that the
Catwoman role has been defined previously. So, I always saw Anne’s role
as being the toughest job of any of us. In my case, I’ve stopped
referencing outside sources. I now reference Chris’ own world of Batman
as a guide to what I will continue doing.”
He raved about Tom Hardy as “a phenomenal actor. I like working with
him a great deal. He goes the whole hog. I know that Bane has been seen
in movies before. But, in my eyes, Tom is essentially creating Bane for
the first time so there’s great freedom for him to be able to do so.”
“Joseph is a very intriguing guy,” Christian said of the actor who
last worked with Chris in “Inception.” Coincidentally, so did Tom. “I
would see Joseph’s performances in other films while we were filming.
He’s somebody who truly seems to love acting. He’s a good, smart guy. He
did a very good job in the movie.”
Secret identity

Christian announced that this could be his last
time as the masked vigilante whose secret identity is Bruce Wayne, an
American billionaire who as a child witnessed his parents’ murder,
leading him to a life of revenge on crime. “I wrapped a few days ago so
that will be the last time I’m taking that cowl [Batman hood] off,” he
said. “I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it’s
all done. Everything’s finished. It’s me and Chris – that will be the
end of that Batman era.”
Christian admitted that playing Bruce Wayne “was enjoyable.” He
explained, “We always maintained from the beginning that if you wanted
to break it down, there are three personas – Batman is sincere, the
private Bruce Wayne is sincere. The public version of Bruce Wayne, the
playboy, is a completely fabricated performance.”
On other news about him, Christian confirmed that he will be making
two movies with Terrence Malick, “Lawless” and “Knight of Cups” [Cate
Blanchett is in both, too]. Smiling, with a hint of irony about
Terrence’s reputation for taking extended periods of time to finish his
films, the actor said, “Terry is going to defy all expectations, and
we’re going to fly through those movies.”
In Yimou’s 1937-set “The Flowers of War,” Christian plays an
American, John Miller, trapped in the besieged city of Nanking when it
is invaded by the Japanese army. He is forced to pretend to be a priest
as desperate civilians – schoolgirls and courtesans – seek refuge in a
cathedral. An act of heroism inspires the disparate group to fight back.
On the difference he noted in filming away from Hollywood or London,
Christian said, “Maybe it’s just the set-up that they have in China. Or,
maybe, it’s because Yimou is the preeminent director there. So, there’s
this autocracy. He will decide what is going to be shot at any given
time. No need to explain it to anybody else. No producers get to differ
with him. It could be a dictatorship, but Yimou is a very warm-hearted
guy, so it never became that.”
“There are no unions for the film workers, so it’s seven-day work weeks,” he added.
“The speed with which everything got done was phenomenal, especially
in terms of the set construction – the size, the grandeur of it.
“I arrived on the set and there were two sound stages which I assumed
had been there for years – but no, they were built just for this movie.
“They built enormous acres of streets to replicate Nanking. They
built a cathedral that wasn’t just a façade – it was made of concrete.
This thing’s going to be around for 100 years. I found that phenomenal –
the ability to get all of that done.”
He offered personal insights into the renowned Asian filmmaker, with
whom he communicated via translators: “Yimou is one of the calmest
directors I’ve ever come across. He never panics. You never see him
worry. It doesn’t matter what problems are presented to him. He’s got a
great sense of humor.
“We make each other cry with laughter and, half the time, we didn’t
even know exactly what it was we were laughing about. You just get a
feeling of kinship with him. He’s a master at what he does. He’s been
doing it for so long.”

Joseph Mazzello, known for his role in 1993's Jurassic Park, wants in on the fourth film.

A couple of weeks ago we had Ariana Richards, Lexi from “Jurassic Park”, on the Hole Cast
for the release of the dino-hit’s Blu-ray premiere. Though she hadn’t
heard anything beyond the internet rumours, Richards naturally expressed
interest in reprising her role as the computer-savvy youngster – the
role that made her acting career – in the long-rumoured “Jurassic Park
4″.
Today, in an interview with HeyUGuys,
Richards’ “Jurassic Park” co-star Joseph Mazzello said he too wants in
on the inevitable sequel. Mazello, who has been shooting “G.I Joe 2:
Retaliation”, even went one step further – he’s told Steven Spielberg to
put him in the film.

I know they are writing it and it’s been developed right now. The last
time I saw Steven was at the Emmys and I put the bug in his ear, I have
no shame in that! I said, ‘Hey, let me know when you’re doing Jurassic
Park 4, ok?’ If it came around and I was a part of it that would be an
absolute thrill. I think it would be a great idea to have Tim grown up
and see how that would affect things. We’ll see, you never know. If it
happens it’ll be the greatest thrill of my life.

Mark Protosevich (“I Am Legend,” “Thor”) is currently writing the
screenplay for the fourth film, with “Jurassic Park 3″ helmer Joe
Johnston strongly rumoured to be retaining the directing reigns on the
new film.
“It’s nothing like the first three,” Johnston told The New Zealand Herald. “It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved.”
Scientist Jack Horner, whose research is funded by such parties as
Universal and George Lucas, is already hard at work on the sciency side
of the film.
The dino-man tells The Herald-Sun what palaeontologists know about dinosaurs has dramatically changed since he first teamed up with Spielberg in 1993.
“We’ve learned that dinosaurs were colourful, we’ve learned that
dinosaurs were feathered. We’ve learned a lot about dinosaur behaviours,
we’ve learned there’s a difference in how juveniles look and adults
look… Jurassic Park 4 will look very different than Jurassic Park 3.
“We find a dinosaur, a new species of dinosaur, on average every
seven weeks. I think recently it’s been probably like every five weeks. I

Amateur filmmaker Effrem Adams does all the right things right in his YouTube film Horror Movie, a mash-up of all of the great slashers of the '80s and '90s. With a bigger budget, this thing would be sick...
So I decided to change things up a bit and post his movie in full, in five parts, below...enjoy...

Now this is interesting. NBC plans to bring back The Munsters. No word on cast or premiere date, but this definitely something that SB will follow as it progresses. Speaking of The Munsters, whatever happened to the proposed movie adaptation the Wayans were rumored to do?

Less than 2 weeks after receiving Bryan Fuller’s script for The Munsters, NBC has given a pilot order to the Pushing Daisies
creator’s reboot of the 1960s comedy. Universal Television is producing
the project, described as an imaginative reinvention of The Munsters as a visually spectacular one-hour drama. Fuller originally developed The Munsters
last season and his was one of very few scripts new NBC chief Bob
Greenblatt kept in play when he took over the network in January.
Greenblatt rolled the project to get it redeveloped by his team.
Fuller’s new outline submitted in September was received well, and his
new script was delivered to NBC early this month. Word is that the
network envisions the new Munsters as a potential summer or event series. Like Fuller’s previous series, Pushing Daisies,
the project features striking visuals mixed with all the classic
Munsters archetypes. Grandpa Sam Dracula is essentially Dracula who
assembled Herman because no man was good enough for his daughter Lily, a
sexy vamp. Lily’s niece Marilyn the freak is actually normal and Lily
and Herman’s only child, Eddie, has his werewolf tendencies surface in
puberty, forcing the family to relocate to their famous 1313
Mockingbird Lane address. In addition to The Munsters, Fuller also has Hannibal, based on the Hannibal Lecter character, in contention at NBC for a straight-to-series order via Gaumont International TV.

Thanks to Deadline for the scoop.

'The Simpsons' Sequel Status Update

Al Jean, executive producer of The Simpsons, recently spoke to Moviehole about the status of the inevitable sequel to The Simpsons Movie...

I had always felt it would be best to wait after the series concluded to
do the Simpsons Movie, but when it became clear the show might never
end, we decided we had to get cracking on the film. If there is a
sequel, there would have to be a script we believed in as much as the
first one. At the moment we are concentrating solely on the show.

This is getting a little repetitive now. Yet again, another writer has been tapped to pen a Godzilla remake/reboot.

Max Borenstein has been tapped to write the planned remake of Godzilla.

Gareth Edwards, the director of the indie sci-fi movie Monsters,
is attached to direct the creature feature centered on the giant
city-destroying and monster-fighting lizard, which is in development at
Legendary Pictures.
