Mat, Thrasher, Jersey Jason, BJ, and special guest Alexander Miller (writer for Pulp365 and Film Inquiry) look back at the entire five-year run of the Sequelcast podcasts, talk about which movie series they would have liked to cover in retrospect, and get rather emotional in this final episode of the Sequelcast podcast.

Whether I was struggling to stay awake while watching Highlander: The Source or editing a podcast early in the morning before work, the Sequelcast has been a huge part of my life for the past five years. I give a hearty thanks to all listeners of the show past and present. To any guest that came on the show, thanks for popping by.

All things must come to an end, and so does this podcast. We recorded over 200 episodes on dozens of franchises, and that's not even counting the video game and special shows.

Sequelcast 215: Another 48 Hrs. (1990)

Mat and Thrasher discuss Another 48 Hrs. in this episode of the Sequelcast podcast. The money train was something Eddie Murphy and company couldn't resist, so Another 48. Hrs. came to pass. Despite having much of the same cast of the original, even down to the minor supporting roles, Another 48. Hrs. lacks the vim and vigor of the original. Eddie Murphy comes off as bored. So does the audience.

Mat is skeptical about the new Deadpool movie in production given how obnoxious Ryan Reynolds was playing the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Thrasher mourns the passing of cult actor Rob Zidar. Thrasher expresses mild interest in The X-Files making a short miniseries comeback to TV.

Mat gives two thumbs up to Life Itself, an unflinching documentary on the life of the late film critic Roger Ebert. Thrasher thinks the TV show Backstrom is a tired procedural. Despite it's Portland, Oregon setting, the show is shot in Canada.

Video Game Sequelcast 23: Star Wars (Arcade, NES, SNES, PC)

Mat and Thrasher discuss video games based off the Star Wars movies in this episode of the Video Game Sequelcast podcast. From the arcade to just about every console, Star Wars games have entertained and let down players for decades. They have covered every genre from racing (Star Wars Episode I: Racer) to real-time strategy (Star Wars: Force Commander). They also speculate on the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront reboot for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Thrasher has sunk more hours into Dragon Age: Inquisition than he cares to admit. He feels there are too many side quests that distract from the main story. Mat has played a ton of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and complains about the clunkiness of the menu interface. If you purchase a Season Pass, shouldn't it download the new DLC automatically when it comes out? That would make too much sense.

Mat and Thrasher close out the show by going on a rant about the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books by the late Douglas Adams.

Sequelcast 214: 48 HRS. (1982)

Mat and Thrasher discuss 48 Hrs. in this episode of the Sequelcast podcast. Coming off the success of The Warriors, director Walter Hill (Johnny Handsome) directed this action-comedy starring Nick Nolte (Jefferson in Paris) and Eddie Murphy (Daddy Day Care). Murphy was still a castmember on Saturday Night Live at the time. The film was a big hit. Before too long, Murphy would play starring roles instead of being saddled with a white co-star.

Mat thinks Horrible Bosses 2 is an OK movie with a great Chris Pine (People Like Us) performance. Thrasher thinks Season 6 of Community improves as it goes along. Both enjoy the surreal humor of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Broad City.

Mat and Thrasher rant on the publicity photo of Jesse Eisenberg (The Squid and the Whale) as Lex Luthor for the upcoming film Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Sequelcast 213- Starship Troopers: Invasion (2012)

Mat and Thrasher discuss Starship Troopers: Invasion in this episode of the Sequelcast podcast. Perhaps bolstered by the success of their direct-to-DVD CG Resident Evil feature films, Sony released the animated Starship Troopers: Invasion in 2012. The main characters from the original film are older and back in a new adventure that features bugs attacking the outside and inside of different spaceships. The satire is not the focus this time around, but the action is arguably gets crazier than in any of the live-action films.

Thrasher laments the passing of the TV producer/writer Sam Simon. Mat thinks Tim Burton is a decent choice as the director for a live-action Dumbo film; just think of the clown sequences!

Mat likes the intimacy between the subject and the director in the documentary Paul Williams Still Alive. Thrasher thinks the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Player's Handbook is a great revision to a classic tabletop game.

Sequelcast 212- Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (2008)

Mat and Thrasher discuss Starship Troopers 3: Marauder in this episode of the Sequelcast podcast. Screenwriter Ed Neumeier makes his directorial debut with this flick. The satire and humor is amped up compared to Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation, but the budget it still quite limited. Its reach might outreach it grasp, but at least the titular troopers are trying this time around.

Mat is sad how modern the costumes look for Guy Ritchie's upcoming King Arthur film, reportedly the first in yet another massive franchise. Thrasher is intrigued by an Indiegogo campaign for Con Man, a web series starring Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk of Firefly fame.

Thrasher thinks Earth To Echo could have been better. Mat enjoys the fluffiness of Netflix's new series The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Sequelcast 211- Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004)

Mat and Thrasher discuss Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation in this episode of the Sequelcast podcast. Special effects legend Phil Tippett directed this direct-to-video sequel which features a greater element on horror than one might suspect. A mostly humorless affair, the highlight of the film is an opening news reel mainly consisting of footage from the original!

With Marvel Films jamming Spider-Man into the upcoming film Captain America 3: Civil War, Thrasher wonders how big Spidey's role will be. Mat and Thrasher enjoy how the season finale of Star Wars Rebels features a character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Mat enjoys the new sitcom Fresh Off The Boat for its offbeat humor. Thrasher rants about how boring Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter are. Here's hoping Marvel's upcoming slate of live-action TV shows for Netflix fare better.

Sequelcast 210- Starship Troopers (1997)

Mat and Thrasher discuss Starship Troopers on this episode of the Sequelcast podcast. Although it had modest box office returns given its budget, the flick has been a perrenial best seller on a multitude of home video formats. Director Paul Verhoeven (Hollow Man) added a healthy dose of satire to the mix which many people miss on their first viewing.

Mat thinks the plot synopsis for Creed, the upcoming Rocky spin-off film focusing on Apollo's son, is a bit banal. Thrasher is tickled by a new Tomb Raider movie in the works inspired by the recent reboot video game that takes Lara Croft back to her origins.

Mat enjoys a bit of retro comedy with the John Landis (Animal House) classic Trading Places. Thrasher chuckles at the Saturday Night Live: 40th Anniversary Special that recently aired.

Sequelcast Special 37: Leonard Nimoy

Mat, Thrasher, and Jersey Jason discuss the long career of Leonard Nimoy in this episode of the Sequelcast Special podcast. He was an actor, poet, photographer, and director. Best known for playing the role of Mr. Spock on the original Star Trek TV series, Nimoy also was a regular on Mission: Impossible for two seasons playing the role of Paris. Nimoy's dulcet tones provided narration to documentary TV series (In Search Of) and video games (Seaman, Civilization IV) He passed away recently, leaving behind a legion of roles that were quirky, warm, and often full of emotion.

The Nimoy family has also asked that, in lieu of flowers, people consider making a charitable donation in Nimoy’s memory.

Sequelcast 209- Escape From L.A. (1996)

Mat and Thrasher discuss Escape From L.A. in this episode of the Sequelcast podcast. John Carpenter returns to direct this sequel to Escape From New York with a bigger budget than the original, yet the whole enterprise feels cheaper due to shoddy mid-1990s special effects. Bruce Campbell (Oz the Great and Powerful) has a dandy cameo as a master plastic surgeon.

Mat and Thrasher delight in Neill Blomkamp being chosen as a director for Alien 5, but wonder if the film will actually make it into production. Mat is still enjoying Gotham even though more time in Arkham Asylum would have been appreciated. Thrasher has a marathon of sorts watching the four Starship Troopers movies.

Video Game Sequelcast 22: Mega Man (NES) (GUEST: Ash Paulsen of Udon Entertainment and Game Xplain)

Mat, Thrasher, and special guest Ash Paulsen (Senior Editor at Udon Entertainment + Editor of Game Xplain) discuss the Mega Man video games for the NES in this episode of the Video Game Sequelcast podcast. They also touch on Mega Man 9 + 10 released for the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Mat and Ash discuss the news of amiibos being able to play demos of NES and SNES titles on the Wii U in the near future. Ash brings up the possibility of Star Wars and Marvel characters worming their way into Kingdom Hearts 3. I'd love to see a scene of Donald Duck trying to eat Princess Leia's hairbuns.

Thrasher sits down to play Dragon Age: Inquisition after watching his wife play through most of the game. Ash enjoys The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D on the 3DS. Mat loves IDARB on the Xbox One for its wacky social media hooks.

Thrasher likes how BioWare released the tavern songs from Dragon Age: Inquisition as a free download for a limited time. Mat thinks the concept of Mario Maker for the Wii U is past its prime.

Mat enjoys Alien: Isolation until its stealth mechanics become inconsitent and cheap; it still does a great job with capturing the mood and lighting of the original film. Thrasher is watching his wife play through Dragon Age: Inquisition and notices all the fetch quests.

Sequelcast 208- Escape From New York (1981)

Mat and Thrasher discuss Escape From New York in this episode of the Sequelcast podcast. John Carpenter (The Fog) added more humor to the screenplay with each draft to make this more than just an action picture. With a visual style reminiscent of Walter Hill's The Warriors, Carpenter presenters a Western Noir that benefits greatly from a simple story peppered with effective plot twists.

Mat marvels that the rumored co-production deal between Sony and Marvel Films finally came to pass. Expect Spidey in a lot of flicks over the next few years. Thrasher revels in Tony Hale's casting in Alvin and the Chimpmunks 4: Road Chip.

Mat likes the new HBO special Mel Brooks Live at the Geffen even if the stories presented have been oft-repeated; Brooks' solo renditions of his songs in the second half are the real reason to tune in. Thrasher likes the BBC series Psychoville.

Sequelcast 207: Prometheus (2012) (GUEST: Scott Nye of CriterionCast)

Mat, Thrasher, and special guest Scott Nye (co-host of the CriterionCast and writer for Battleship Pretension) discuss Prometheus in this episode of the Sequelcast podcast. Ridley Scott (G.I. Jane) returns to direct this film set in the Alien universe as a loose prequel that largely serves as its own tale. References to the original Alien are plentiful, but Prometheus is hardly the cheap cash in it easily could have been.

Thrasher is intrigued by an upcoming adaptation of the Bradley Cooper film Limitless into a TV series. Scott caught Million Dollar Legs as part of a double feature and enjoys it silly premise. Mat can't seem to get Tusk out of his head, watching it twice in one week. Thrasher finally watches the first two seasons of Game of Thrones and appreciates its absence of magic. All three discuss their picks for exciting flicks coming out this summer.

Alien: Resurrection amps up the humor and returns to a spaceship setting while working from a Joss Whedon (Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron) screenplay. Sigourney Weaver gives an inspired performance amidst all the lunacy.

Mat is mixed on the new teaser for the Fantastic Four reboot. Josh loves The Grand Budapest Hotel. Thrasher squees over the new cast for the Ghostbusters reboot featuring quartet of Saturday Night Live alumns.

Mat enjoys that Kevin Smith goes for a gonzo tone with Tusk. Josh feels The Lego Movie is OK while The Imitation Game is a bit labored. Thrasher thinks Galavant and Agent Carter could try a little harder for greatness.

David reveals he never set out to be a film critic until later in life. Mat nerds out on his middle school obsession with the e-books of Ebert, Kael, and Maltin present on the Microsoft Cinemania '95 CD-ROM. David gives advice to budding podcasters. Mat tries to also give advice to podcasters while heavily critiquing himself in the process.

Anderson will go with an upcoming sixth Resident Evil film Resident Evil: The Final Chapter set to film in August 2015. Jim likes a rumor that an Alien 3 character might feature in Prometheus 2.

When not watching Wong Kar Wai films, Jim enjoys revisiting HBO's landmark series The Wire. Mat feels the HBO documentary Seduced and Abandoned feels a bit random at times. Thrasher enjoys the Japanese CG-animated feature Space Pirate Captain Harlock.

Mat believes the rumors that Spider-Man will be recast in the next Spidey film to be true. Thrasher revels in Transformers: Age of Extinction being nominated for tons of Razzies this year.

Thrasher hates Transformers: Age of Extinction but felt Mark Wahlberg was marginally more interesting as a lead than Shia LaBeouf. Mat questions the originality of an indie comic featured in the short documentary Comic Store Heroes. Thrasher enjoys the meta Christmas Special episode of Bojack Horseman. Mat likes To Be Takei and loves Downloaded (a documentary on the rise and fall of Napster directed by Bill & Ted star Alex Winter).

After an alien is let loose on a spaceship and a crewmember is revealed to be an android, the blue collar crew has to fight for their lives to escape. A haunted house film in space oozing with atmosphere, Alien is a stellar example of the genre that tempers H.R. Giger's horrific designs with stately pacing reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Mat and Tyler talk about the Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary Edition computer game. Thrasher enjoys production art from director Neill Blomkamp for a proposed Alien sequel that never got off the ground. Mat is tepid on the Ant-Man trailer.

Mat horrifies Thrasher with the long saga of big-ass patches that don't totally fix multiplayer for the Halo Master Chief Collection on the Xbox One. Thrasher enjoys looking at eBay for improper molds of Nintendo's popular Amiibo figures; legless Princess Peaches go for a lot these days.

Mat thinks Laura K. Buzz's Video Game Critic Simulator is a fun experiment. Thrasher is back on the board games with Chuthulu Hastur La Vista Baby. Mat likes Peggle 2 for the Xbox One but feels it's a lazy sequel as far as innovation goes.

Mat hopes Tim Burton is serious about directing Beetlejuice 2; Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder reportedly want to reprise their roles. Thrasher enjoys the casting of Viola Davis as Amanda Waller in the upcoming supervillain flick Suicide Squad.

Thrasher enjoys part of the TV movie of A Wrinkle in Time while admitting the special effects are a tad cheesy. Mat thinks both Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Gotham have gotten better further into their second and first seasons, respectively.

Mat marvels at all the Spider-Man franchise ideas leaked from Sony Pictures' unfortunate hack. One thing's for sure, the next Spidey flick needs something fresh to attract more interest the next time around. May we suggest no more origin stories or retreads of what was already covered in the Sam Raimi flicks?

Mat likes the PBS documentary American Masters: Mel Brooks: Make A Noise for its comprehensive look at the life of a master comedic filmmaker. The HBO documentary Six By Sondheim is less impressive for its scattershot look at a man's tremendous career with weird music videos overtaking the more interesting vintage Broadway rehearsal footage.

Mat admits he's never read a Dragonriders of Pern novel, but he just might give one a try with Warner Bros. trying to develop it as a massive film franchise. He also touches on Universal trying to remake The Mummy yet again. An animated film gets a live-action sequel with SpongeBob SquarePants: Sponge Out of Water, a decision Mat finds as mystifying as the animated series itself.

Mat gave The Battered Bastards of Baseball a watch and found himself enjoying this quirky sports documentary about the Portland Mavericks, an independent baseball team in Portland, Oregon in the 1970s owned by Bing Russell, Kurt Russell's father (!!). He also talks about the Karate episode of Penn and Teller's Bullshit.
