In one of our mini-games, there are five levels to beat with five squirrels in traditional karate belt colors: white, yellow, green, brown, black. I wanted a generic-robed squirrel for a game over screen, so Christine drew me the following squirrel, which I thought, “WOW, FASHIONABLE!”

After being bedridden for four days (thanks to a nasty flu), my recovering stomach somehow endured an eating marathon on Saturday.

Ryan had a BBQ at his place during the day, and then we headed over to Derek’s for a home-cooked meal complete with wine and cheese.

Pictured above, Derek and Steve’s awesome dining setup (left); and his gourmet entree: steamed clams with bacon and green onions. That night, we tried four types of cheeses, two wines, Derek’s sister’s lasagna, her friends’ quiches and kalbi, and Humphrey’s toasted almond icecream. Yum.

nARCHITECTS’ Forest Pavilion - completed in May 2011 - serves as a shaded meeting and performance space for visitors to the Da Nong Da Fu Forest and Eco-park in Hualien province, Taiwan. The project was conceived within the context of an art festival curated by Huichen Wu of Artfield, Taipei for Taiwan’s Forestry Bureau to raise public awareness of a new growth forest that is being threatened by development…

This new circular gathering space emerges from the ground in a series of eleven green bamboo shading vaults, organized in two rings around a void. The plan is inspired by the rings of a tree, and the different form of the vaults by growth patterns in nature. In the same way that the infinite variety of shapes in a tree emerge from very simple branching rules, the configuration of vault shapes uses a single geometry, the parabolic arch, in a way that could in theory generate endless configurations… (more)

united states based design office takebayashi scroggin (d.o.t.s.) has created ’zip tie massimal’
a life size installation made from standard zip ties. designated as a hollow and mesh-like form,
the object is produced at a 1:1 scale to serve as an experimental prototype to engage the public realm.
systematically generated from a singular material, the form is an animal abstraction intended to
mimic a docile petting zoo when joined by other creatures.

the supporting framework and skin is constructed with 20,000 zip ties producing an ephemeral glowing
volume when illuminated. discretely stabilized with a cable suspension system anchored to the ceiling,
the creation attracts visitors and serves as a centerpiece in the atmosphere.
