Continuo instrument (harpsichord/chamber organ) - Roland C-30 - for hire!

The Consort has recently invested in a new continuo instrument for the group, so that we do not have to arrange to hire or borrow other instruments for our concerts and events. After much deliberation as to what instrument to purchase (new, second-hand, pipe organ, harpsichord, electric, etc), we have decided to obtain an electronic continuo instrument - a Roland C-30.

This is an incredibly versatile instrument that looks like an authentic, wooden continuo instrument, and it has a variety of functions and sounds - making it the best of all worlds!

It has authentic harpsichord, organ and lute sounds, it will play at different pitches/temperaments, and it has the all important volume control!

We will post details of hire charges in due course, but do get in touch should this be of use or interst for your own choir, choral society, orchestra or music group.

Much merriment and enjoyment was had by all, and several residents managed to sing along to some as well!

Members of The Serlo Consort were very saddened to hear of the death of The Very Revd. Neil Collings in July 2010. As well as being a personal friend and mentor to many members of the consort (stemming from his time as Canon Treasurer at Exeter Cathedral), he was a Patron of the choir and a great supporter of our work. He will be hugely missed by all who knew him - from his parishes in Devon and Harpenden, and from his Cathedral posts at Hereford, Westminster Abbey, Exeter & St. Edmunsbury.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

The Serlo Consort is delighted to undertake theraputic musical performances as part of its charitable work, and it enjoys a fruitful, on-going relationship with The Red House care home in Ashtead, Surrey. It performs there for the residents and staff several times a year, including at their summer party and Christmas carols on Christmas Eve. If you are from another Residential/care home, or know of one that would also value our musical input - please contact us. We would be happy to expand this important and valuable side of our musical performance!

The Serlo Consort has joined forces twice this season already with external orchestras. The ‘Messiah’ on Good Friday was with the young, professional orchestra - The St. Paul’s Sinfonia (conducted by Andrew Morley), and the Mozart/Haydn programme at St. James’, Piccadilly was with - The Camerata of London. We are fully in favour of musical ensembles joining together to create new ideas/have a fresh approach to performing repertoire. To this end, we are already joing with The St. Paul’s Sinfonia again on Good Friday 2011 to perform the wonderful ‘St. John Passion’ by J. S. Bach!

Having purposely had a slightly lighter schedule in 2009 (due to the arrival of lots of Serlo babies!), we are delighted to announce a variety of dates for 2010. These include maintaining our theraputic workshop link with The Red House care home (Ashtead, Surrey), choral and organ concerts at the wonderful church of St. John the Evangelist, Upper Norwood and two orchestral concerts. Our performances with orchestras in 2010 are with separate groups (not accompanied by our own instrumental ensemble as normal) - the first, The St. Paul’s Sinfonia and the second, The Camerata of London. We look forward to working with these excellent, professional groups and hope it may lead on to more collaborations. Please regularly visit this website for more details and for extra events still to be added.
