OK Readers, I’ll level with you….we pretty much run SerreChevalier.ORG for nothing, but if there is an opportunity to get something back, we will go for it as long as we are not ’selling out’ to satisfy someone’s greed.

I mean, it’s great fun to be posting stuff on a daily basis to watch the search engines struggle to decide who to index first - who will it be…? The crusty old domains or the lively daily updated blog? Google is confused itself and we love it. But at the end of the day there is server rental to pay, domain renewal fees to pay, list management fees to pay and the subscriptions to the ‘arsenal’ of tools that are sometimes used to influence Google.

Anyway….we admit that we do get little bits of commission for pushing our friends’ businesses along a little. And as far as they are concerned, I have always said that I will treat those who pay fastest, the best. This was the La Balme webcam image from midday today. I was trying to not write too much about the weather, because it’s just a bit too obvious really. So here you go, I’ll let the webcam photo speak for itself.
As cool as it is (literally) to spend the winter here, I do love to see signs of spring. I was kind of expecting to see some spring flowers in my garden by now, but instead a pallet with half a ton of paving blocks appeared. I hadn’t seen it since November! Maybe I should have showed you a photo of that rather than a stolen image from the Serre Chevalier web cam.

It’s mothers day today in the UK, so my Mum got a moonpig mothers day card with a picture of my daughters on, so she was happy!

It’s a shame she is not here today as she would probably be enjoying sitting here on the terrace of The Station watching Ash and Mary aka Stereoslaves.

BTW I am actually here…I’ve gone slightly high tech by using an iPhone with the iBlogger application, which it makes it really easy to update your blog when you are out. Even better, you can click ‘geotag your post’ and it will automatically add this to your post….(see below)

Sunshine

The sun is now shining more often than not, which means i finally got on the hill when it was nice. Went up on Friday and it was lovely. Hardly anyone was around and higher up the snow was really nice, hard and fast. Lower down it was a little too hard but still pretty good. Today, again, hard up top but a little slushy lower down. With no snow predicted for a while, lets hope its lasts and it doesnt get too hot.
The picture is of a place past Monetier, which locals im sure will recognise. Aaron would like to know, if anyone can help, is this natural or man made?

I don’t want to say this too loud, so if you’re reading this and moving your lips – stop it, but it would seem as if the, quite honestly, crap weather of the past weeks has been blown on to hopefully plague more deserving people who don’t like skiing in sunny Serre Chevalier.

We must have almost exhausted our total number of overcast or rubbish days for the season, we’re supposed to get 300 or so days of sunshine a year, so grab your sticks (do people really say that?) or stick and get on over, there are loads of deals to be had and there must be a couple of metres of the white stuff up there that has been left to accumulate for a week at least unmolested.

Still my five year old has been throwing himself down black runs, but he tries to cheer me up by saying “and reds” but I’m tempted to throw the towel in, how can I progress?

My favourite instructor Darren from Insightski and people who look at me just say “fitness” but how can they tell? The clothes I wear are very loose, they can only have an imaginary grasp of what bulk lurks within surely?

This summer I’m going to go on a bike up some Col and next season I’ll be back, less than before, nimbler – actually I don’t think I’ll ever pull nimble off – but living here all season makes you realise you have to be somewhat single minded, still it’s nice to have goals.

I like skiing to be sure, but I also like pies and lying on the sofa thinking about being a better skier.

A two week hol is the best length I reckon, the only pressure is to have a good time, not to perform like some Snow Ocelot.

There are more than two weeks left so check out some of the late season deals, and (quietly now) it is truly gorgeous at the moment (shh).

Barbecue Friday at The Station

This week I will mention the word barbecue, I think it is safe to do that. Traditionally if anyone mentions the word, there is usually a clap of thunder and a huge storm happens, not so today though.

I had been away last night playing at The Underground Bar in Alpe d’Huez and as we came back into the Serre Chevalier valley, things were looking very good indeed.

The weather has been phenomenal here today, blue sky and warm sunshine. So as promised last week the free barbie is going ahead at The Station in Chantemerle. It starts just about now, so get over there now.

Paralympic selection

As you may know it’s the paralympics over in Canada, which fills me with respect and awe much more than for the regular bodied (or whatever the correct term is) athletes.
I have been having a look to see how some of them have ended up as paralympians, but it seems as if it’s a bit rude to pry to deeply into how people lost limbs or eyes, despite the fact they make a whole song and dance about it and give them a special Olympics.
Is it rude to ask?
The reason I was wondering about the beginnings was, I thought, wouldn’t it be ironic if they’d skied into a tree and got their big break there?
One of the best skiers is Canadian Lauren Woolstencroft who was born without either leg below the knee and left arm from the elbow.
There seems to be little information on other athletes, which just goes to show what the real attitude is, especially after all the noise made, for the Winter Games, still I’ll keep an eye out for tit-bits.

This week Serre Chevalier is host to the evilness that is ‘Sid et Les Vicieux’. This bunch of Normandy nutters have been mates of ours for quite a while now. They are joining The Harper Brothers at The Station on Thursday afternoon. I’ll get their gig dates tommorrow, but do go and see them.

It’ll be a bit late about 10:30pm as Cookie is doing his pub quiz first.
