      <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Close Date:</strong> May 31, 2012</p><p><strong>Description:</strong> The goal of Project UNIFY is to activate youth around the country to develop school communities where all young people are agents of change - fostering respect, dignity, and advocacy with and for people with intellectual disabilities by utilizing the programs and initiatives of Special Olympics. To be eligible, you must be between the ages of 12 to 20, or a current undergraduate student in college. A Special Olympics North America program is required to be your main partner organization. Projects must demonstrate the core essence of service-learning.       <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Close Date:</strong> Mar 13, 2012</p><p><strong>Description:</strong> The September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance initiative grants range from approximately $50,000 to $150,000 are made to eligible organizations engaged in service activities that meet vital community needs and honor the sacrifice of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 or who rose in service as a result of that tragedy.  Available funds for the grant total approximately $500,000. CNCS expects to invest a significant amount of available funding to programs working on two focus areas -Disaster Services and/or Veterans and Military Families plus Capacity Building. Since 2005, J-Serve has been a part of YSA's Global Youth Service Day. A limited number of J-Serve micro-grants of up to $500 will be awarded to community projects committed to creating service opportunities that bring Jewish teens together to participate in a J-Serve project.  Projects that are creative and innovative, especially those that will be first time events in a community, as well as projects conceived and planned by teen project leaders will receive preferential reviews. These programs are designed to foster conservation leadership, achieve conservation results, forge partnerships in communities across the United States, and help engage millions of Americans in conservation action. The Innovation Grants program provides funding to enable Audubon groups and others to inspire, equip, and support activities that engage new and diverse audiences in conservation action and create healthier communities. To be eligible, the applicant organization must constitute a branch, office, or other operational unit of the National Audubon Society (including national or state offices andfield units such as Audubon centers and sanctuaries), or be an Audubon-certified chapter or Audubon- certified chapter-run center or sanctuary. Independent Audubon entities that wish to participate in a cooperative arrangement with the National Audubon Society for this purpose are also eligible. Other organizations are encouraged to apply if they partner with an Audubon group on their project. Organizations in areas in which there are no Audubon organizations may apply with partners of their own. Applicants must have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, a commitment from at least one partner organization to serve as a collaborator, and adequate collective experience and organizational capacity to administer, implement, and evaluate the project. A minimum of forty projects will receive funding totaling more than $1 million, with grants ranging from $5,000 to $80,000. The program is designed to help strengthen the operational financial underpinnings of qualifying institutions. Grants must be used to do one or more of the following: significantly reduce or eliminate operating deficits, pay down or eliminate debt, enhance existing revenue streams, or create new revenue streams. Grants may be used for a capital project only if a case can be made that such a project will satisfy the requirement of significantly reducing or eliminating the organization's operating deficit. To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit organization or part of a nonprofit organization or government entity headquartered within a twenty-mile radius of Roanoke city center, conduct five hundred hours of programming a year, have an operating budget of at least $100,000, and have at least one paid professional staff member who oversees daily operations. Funder:  Action for Healthy Kids and the Kellogg’s Corporate Citizenship Fund<br />
Eligibility:  School districts applying for a minimum of three of their primary and/or secondary schools; schools (public, charter, private, or religious) may submit an application for a single site. Although applications from all districts and schools will be considered, the initiative is targeted to those with greater than 50% eligibility for free and reduced-priced meals<br />
Amount: Award amount will be based, in part, on a school’s ability to mobilize parents and student around school breakfast initiatives.       <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Close Date:</strong> Feb 15, 2012</p><p><strong>Description:</strong> The National Gardening Association's KidsGardening and Jamba Juice are offering the It's All About the Fruits and Veggies grant program to provide schools with gardening supplies, curriculum materials, and plants to help create engaging nutrition and gardening experiences. The program is designed to provide students with opportunities to observe and explore fruit and vegetable production and obtain a deeper understanding and appreciation for these foods in their diet.<br />
<br />
Grants are available to schools, community organizations, and nonprofit programs in the United States gardening with at least fifteen children between the ages of 3 and 18. Schools must be located within a fifty-mile radius of a Jamba Juice store. The program will award twenty grant recipients with a check for $150 to be used to purchase soil amendments and fruit and vegetable plantings and $350 in gardening supplies, including composter, planters, tools, and a curriculum guide from the Gardening with Kids Shop. The total award package is valued at more than $500.<br />
