All parents are automatically members of the Friends of LCS and receive regular information about their activities. The Annual General Meeting is held early in the Christmas Term and parents are cordially invited to attend and express their views. This parents' association forms a valuable link between parents and the school, and provides an opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest.

One of the important roles of The Friends is to organise social functions, and a major event each year is the Summer Ball, held in June. These functions also help to raise money for the purchase of special extras and such contributions have greatly enhanced the school environment.

Parents are invited to support a wide range of school events, functions and activities, including concerts, plays, Chapel Services, Sports Days, Speech Day, special services in the Cathedral, etc. Such events are highlighted in the calendar. This includes School matches, both at home and away: we very much welcome the encouragement which parents' support brings to our teams. Refreshments are normally provided and a warm welcome is extended.

Mission The primary mission of the Friends is to allow parents, family members and other supporters to enrich the educational lives of the pupils of Lichfield Cathedral School.

Projects Projects undertaken by the Friends can be as simple as supplying classroom materials and as complicated as working with the Development Committee on major capital projects. Some recent projects include purchasing lab equipment and library materials, cassocks for the girls' choir and funding classroom projects.

Strategy The Friends committee raise funds primarily by hosting events throughout the academic year; not only do these events raise funds to invest back into the classroom, they provide a rich and varied social community for the parents, family members, staff and leadership teams.

At Lichfield Cathedral School we aim to provide all children from Nursery to Secondary with a thorough academic foundation together with a broad range of opportunities to develop individual interests and talents.

There is a strong emphasis on pastoral care, providing a secure and ordered framework through which all children can develop their self-esteem and find success. As an Anglican foundation, Christian values are an important part of daily life. However, children of any denomination are welcome.

Children enter the School normally at Nursery or Reception level, aged 3 or 4. However, applications are welcomed at any age, and there is a very significant new entry at age 11, Year 7. In September 2005 the School opened a new Secondary Department for two Year 7 classes. These pupils, now in Year 11, will take the majority of their GCSEs in Summer 2010. In September 2010, the School will launch a Sixth Form.

The School is not academically selective, giving priority only to siblings, but it is usual for applicants over the age of 7 to be assessed and interviewed before a place is offered, and children wishing to join the school at age 11+ sit an Entrance Examination. Class sizes are normally not greater than 20, and the average is currently 17.

The School wants its pupils to feel proud of their School, to enjoy an environment in which they may mature intellectually and emotionally, and to discover the riches of successful participation and achievement. Furthermore, the School aims to ensure that, at whatever age they leave, former pupils will take with them warm friendships and cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
