During this week, Recreation and Parks will provide trained staff, and staff fluent in ASL, to help facilitate participation of family members who have disabilities or are Deaf/hard of hearing. Our inclusion staff will provide some great specialized activities as well. We invite you to register for any week at camp, but we encourage you to consider choosing Inclusion Week. The specialized activities and inclusiveness benefit all families at camp, as well as offering everyone the chance to make new friends! When you register, you’ll have the opportunity indicate that you have a family member who has a disability, or who is Deaf/hard of hearing, by checking “I have a family member who has a disability” on the registration form. If you receive a reservation, we will contact you with more information.

Scaregrove is October 25, 2019!

Scaregrove returns to Stern Grove (19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard), on Friday, October 25 from 3 to 9 p.m. This year’s event will feature ghoul face painting, haunted houses for all ages, a spooky trail, carnival rides, food trucks, live entertainment and more! $10 per person; children under 2 years old are free!

Canoemobile

San Francisco Parks & Recreation is partnering with Wilderness Inquiry’s Canoemobile to provide place-based learning experiences for students and transition age youth with cognitive disabilities. This year’s events will take place from 4/12-4/15. We are inviting schools to join us for a week-day event. During these events, students (4th grade and older) will paddle large Voyageur canoes (with trained outdoor educators) and learn firsthand about their waterway by engaging with national agencies and local community organizations.  Dates and locations:

Over here at SFRPD’s Therapeutic Recreation & Inclusion Services, we’re gearing up for summer. We hope you’re ready because we have some exciting updates to share!

Camp Everybody Plays, formally located at Glen Canyon, will be moving this summer! While we will miss being located in the beautiful Glen Canyon & being connected with Silver Tree Day Camp, we’re excited to have a quiet space of our own. Did we mention pick/up and drop off will be a breeze? We all know parking in the city is tough. Our new location will be at Douglas Playground (26th Street & Douglas Avenue). There will also be no extended care.
In addition, we are changing the age groups for our Everybody Plays camps. While we love the diversity of ages, we believe that in focusing on smaller, specific age groups, we can provide higher quality programming and more appropriate curriculum, targeting therapeutic goals. That being said, we are pleased to announce that we will be re-framing & expanding the age group of the kids we serve. We will have separate session for ages 6-8 and 9-11. We are also piloting Teen City, a specialized camp for teens with Autism and other developmental disabilities, ages 12-17!

Due to the demand for this camp, initial enrollment is limited to two weeks.

At the 2007 American Sign Language Festival, Mayor Gavin Newsom proclaimed June 9 to be “American Sign Language and Culture Day in San Francisco”.  Come to the Project Insight ASL Cafe for a pot luck celebration of Deaf/ASL culture and this beautiful visual language!
