Gatecon '22

Gatecon 2022 just wrapped up, and I am pleased to have been there as an attendee, special guest, and working photograher. Yes, it was a BUSY weekend. The highlight for me was revealing the ZPM prop replica during a live broadcast of Dial The Gate. The ZPM was a hit with everybody who saw it, from fans all the way up to Peter DeLuise himself.

The Zero Point Module was first introduced in Stargate SG1, and became a critical component to the story of Stargate Atlantis. As an energy source of immense power, the ZPM was first used connect the Milky Way Stargate to Atlantis base in the Pegasus galaxy. Once the Atlantis expedition reached the ancient city they quickly realized that they needed to find another ZPM (or Zed PM as McKay says) in order to survive.

Forum Upgrades

I just finished some major improvements to the Official SG1Props Discussion Forum. I’m pleased to say that we now have the fastest and most mobile device friendly Stargate discussion forum on the planet. The forum has none of the bloat that fills many other websites such as advertising banners, scripts and unnecessary features. By focusing on the essentials, the forum is fast and distraction-free.

New Workshop

We have been hard at work building our new prop shop! Yes, after 10 years SG1Props has outgrown our 3rd space! We are just about finished remodeling the workshop, and will have lots of new workspaces to complete the projects that we all love so much.

Tragedy Strikes The Stargate Family

All of us at SG1Props are heartbroken to have learned about the housefire which left a pair of Stargate fans homeless. Daniel and Brianne Jackson were on vacation with their kids when they got the call that their home, all of their belongings, and their beloved pets were lost in a fire.

You might not know Daniel or Brianne, but you might have seen their wedding photos. They wed at the official Stargate convention in Chicago--they love Stargate THAT much.

I was finally able to reveal the latest achievement to the world. Hero quality replicas of the Kino from Stargate Universe. This was a complex prop to recreate, and presented many challenges along the way. The final product is simply stunning, and would be the highlight of any SGU display.

Stargate Origins

MGM was bound to bring back Stargate at some point. The shows are regularly counted among MGM's most lucrative properties. Today they announced just how they are doing it. According to the details from the Stargate press release shared on Stargate Legacy, there will be a new web series comprised of 10 episodes, each running 10 minutes long. The episodes will basically add up to the length of a made-for-tv movie.

Hit More Targets

The P90s carried on Stargate SG1 were normally equipped with both a tactical light and also a laser sight. A laser sight assists the SG team member with rapid target acquisition in a firefight, and also helps hitting a target at long range.

On the show they used two types of laser sights: red lasers and green lasers. Red lasers have a long history of being used on weapons systems since their advent, green lasers produce a more visible light, and are better suited for daylight operations.

MGM Announcement about Stargate

MGM has been quiet about the future of Stargate, until now. Well, next week technically. MGM is going to give us some news about Stargate on Thursday, July 20th at San Diego Comic Con. Yeah, the Comic Con where major announcements get made.
