LOUIS, MO (March 4, 2010) – AC St. Louis, playing in the USSF Division 2 Pro League, announced that it will be playing the Kansas City Wizards from Major League Soccer in two exhibition matches. The cross state clubs will meet on Saturday March 20 at 2:00 p.m. in Kansas City at the Wizard’s Swope Park training facility, and again on Saturday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m. for the return match at The Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park.

“This is a perfect way for us to introduce our new team to the fans here in St. Louis,” said player/assistant coach Steve Ralston. “For us it will be a good test against an established MLS team in Kansas City. Plus it will be nice to build up a little rivalry with the Wizards by playing this home and away series each year.”

The Kansas City Wizards are an original member of Major League Soccer. Founded in 1996, the Wizards will begin their 15th season of play this spring. The Wizards have begun construction on a new state-of-the-art stadium, which is scheduled to open in the summer of 2011. AC St. Louis was established in November of 2009, and will begin its first season of play in the newly formed USSF Division 2 Pro League.

“Part of our game plan is to always bring the best soccer we can to St. Louis,” said AC St. Louis Chairman Jeff Cooper. “Playing our first ever game against Kansas City is really special, and I want to thank the entire Wizards organization for coming together with us and creating this home and away series. I think fans in both cities will be quite happy to see these games, and both clubs are excited that St. Louis and Kansas City can finally meet.”

The “Supporters Showdown” will be played on Saturday, March 20th at the Wizards’ Swope Park training facility, with the Wizards and A.C. St. Louis playing first at 2 p.m., and the supporters’ teams playing each other on an adjacent field immediately afterward. The winner of the competition will be determined by combining the scores of the two games, with a trophy awarded to the captain of the winning teams’ supporters.

For supporters who are interested in playing in the March 20 “Supporters Showdown” and are already a member of an AC St. Louis supporter’s group such as; Day Pints, The United Knights, Eads Brigade, and St. Louis FC United, please contact AC St. Louis at 1-888-STL-GOAL.

AC St. Louis and Saint Louis Athletica season ticket holders will receive a free ticket to the April 3 match. To purchase season tickets call 1-888-STL-GOAL. Non-season ticket holders can purchase tickets now for $10 by calling 1-888-STL-GOAL.

While the USA scored several artistic goals, the most amazing moment from the game came after the final whistle as Haitian goalkeeper Alexandra Coby slumped to the turf in tears. Her coach helped her to her feet, and while still sobbing, she saw U.S. goalkeeper Bryane Heaberlin walking toward her. Coby embraced Heaberlin in a tight hug and held on. What followed was a rare sight in sports and an emotional and memorable moment for the young Americans players.

All the U.S. players surrounded Coby and Heaberlin in a huge group hug that lasted at least 90 seconds. When it broke up, the entire U.S. team left the field in tears.

Haiti’s participation in the tournament despite the tragic earthquake has been an inspiration to all the teams in the competition. To donate to the continued relief efforts in Haiti, please visit the American Red Cross web site. While the Haitians showed tremendous fight, the U.S. players were just too strong and fast for the their Caribbean counterparts.

“It just put everything into perspective,” said U.S. defender Olivia Brannon, who played the 90 minutes at right back. “It makes you realize what is truly important, your family, having a roof over your head, and having food on the table. We take all those things for granted. I had my mom in the stands cheering for me tonight. Some of these girls might never have that again.”

Group play for the girls will continue with two more games:
Friday March 12 – U.S. Under-17 Women vs. Cayman Islands – 5 p.m. CT – Live on CONCACAF.com, 7 p.m. CT on FSC
