Many classic series are experiencing reboots, spin-offs, or continuations. It happened on television with Will and Grace, American Idol and Better Call Saul. In movies, entire studios are built around sequels and spin-offs. Radio, with the mandolin player who replaced Garrison Keilor.

Most shows have not been around long enough to be retired and then revived.

In 2005 the internet was not what we know it as today. We started before Youtube blew up, two years before Netflix began its streaming service, and three years before future podcast behemoths Stitcher and Spotify launched.

My father is the reason the show came to be, with his equipment, dutiful editing, and general producing, and my voice is why people kept listening. Our slow speaking style was the reason we had many international listeners who used the show to learn English. Our family-friendly material is what got us played on a Christian radio station somewhere in Tennessee (not to our knowledge). Our moderate listenership is what attracted independent artists to send us their music. Our pioneering in this medium got us an interview on local news, a mention on the BBC and a blurb in Rob Walch’s first book on Podcasting, not to mention a guest spot for myself as Tiny Tim in the 2005 Podcast All Star rendition of A Christmas Carol

My dad is still doing something I don’t understand so some things never change. I’m living in Los Angeles and my dad is still in the Bay Area. Sarah, who made her debut on episode six is a sophomore in high school.

Great question.

Simply put, we’re both stuck in the house and have the ability and time to record again. I really tried to think of what new slant this show could take 15 years after its launch. Should we talk about movies? Aren’t there enough podcasts about movies? What about true crime? Wellness? Technology? None of these categories reflect what we set out to make. We agreed that in these uncertain times, it’s nice to have something warm and familiar to return to. So I think we'll update that blog heading. "22-year-old Sam and his dad, Steve, talk about life… really.”

We’ll have the first new episode of The SG Show up soon.

As promised, we've recorded yet ANOTHER show this year. Will this mean a return to the weekly schedule we had when Sam was 7 years old? Will Sarah make more appearances? Will Sophie show up on the mic as much as old Annie did? Time will tell.

In this show, Sam talks about what it's like in high school, some Podcasts he's listening to and more.

Note to parents: This show includes a discussion of Sam's hospital visit. He's fine and we don't talk about the seriousness of the issue, but be aware that we do talk about it.

Also, there's another blooper clip at the end. People seemed to like it last time.

The SG Show #55 - Here, But Not Forgotten

Looking at the Podcast rig collecting dust in the upstairs closet, Sam commented that it's been a looooong time since we've visited with our Podcast friends. So we cleared some time on the spring calendar this past Saturday, and fired up the microphones again.

On this episode of The SG Show, we talk about what Sam's been up to over the past year, including a discussion of Sam's favorite time of year -- summer vacation.

Here are some links to things we talk about on this week's show:

This show is destined to be a classic. We interview the dads (and their kids) in the family about father's day at our annual picnic. The quiz is back from vacation, and we read listener mail!

And Sam gets a big, big surprise.

The secret word for this show is "hiatus." The quiz is on hiatus this episode.

Someone (hint: our engineer) pushed the wrong button on our email and erased a bunch of messages we were meaning to get to. If you sent us something, please send it again. And sorry!

The Children of the Lamp series is what Sam is reading now. The book he talked about on the show is The Akhenaten Adventure. Check it out at your local library!

Together, we're also reading Les Miserables, after Sam became interested in the story behind the score of the Broadway musical. We're on page 127 now! Only 1328 pages to go!

Lastly, Sam serenades us at the end of the show with a song on his violin. He's just started learning, and he's practicing regularly now. One day when he's playing Carnegie Hall you can say you heard him way back when.

The SG Show #50 - Not a Podfader, We

Did you think we were gone for good?

Not a chance!

Although this show has gone from being published weekly to being posted, well, weakly, we're determined to bring you the latest developments from SG Central. We're still actively developing new shows. Expect to see one a bit more frequently than once per quarter.

In this show, Sam discusses some great movies he's seen, a few new books, and .. we've got a new quiz for you guys!

Thanks for all your comments! We've read every one and we miss you too!
Our holiday Podcast! Something to warm you up during the cold nights of winter. Or cool you off if you're in the Southern Hemisphere. We say hello to some of our listeners from around the world, and share some stories about what's been happening in our lives. Also, another S sits down in front of the microphone and sings us all her favorite song.

And ... what's the worst mistake YOU have made? Post them in the comments section, below.

The SG Show #49 - One Past 39

A big one, this year. Sam and Steve reflect on what it's like to reach a certain age. Sam discusses the latest Series of Unfortunate Events book.

Here are a few links to things we discuss in this episode:

How far is it from the Earth to the Moon?

How fast does your hair grow?

We talk about the Trypod Network, a network of quality Podcasts you can find all in one place. There are dozens of good ones, but here are a few we talked about:

The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd - Sam's favorite!
The Big Show
Me and the Bean
Comedy 4Cast
Jawbone Radio
Israelisms

And the music we played was from Uncle Seth. Check out more of their tunes here!

-2020 Update: The Trypod Network, much like Pets.com, was far before its time. The site has since been bought up by another group and has absolutely no affiliation with The SG Show.

The SG Show #47 - The International Show

Steve's back from travel overseas and Sam's picked up a new musical instrument.

In this show, we discuss the furthest thing they eye can see, why Greenland is an island, not a continent, and time and space.

We play a promo for the Just One More Book Podcast. If you like kids' books, check them out!

And, we talk about Lanny Sherwin's lullabye contest. Here are the details we promised:
On this week's show, we talk about things we are grateful for.

After an exhausting week (Sam had vacation, Steve had business travel) and a quick trip to Los Angeles to visit family and friends, we return home late Sunday night to do a quick show for you all.

This week, we give you the quiz questions, but YOU will give us the answers (and maybe win a prize if you do!). Email us at steveandsam@gmail.com with your answers!

Here is the site for the Furlani family that we talk about during our show. Sanfillipo Syndrome is, unfortunately, a disease without a cure now. If you can help out in any way, we'd appreciate it!

We feel so lucky to have all of you as listeners and friends! Here's a picture one of our fans Connor sent of his science project that was partly inspired by our quiz question on liquefaction.

Great job, Connor!

And Sam is still raving about the nice package we received from The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd team. If you haven't heard their Pocast, you're really missing out! Tell 'em we sent ya!

We're trying to figure out who's listening to our show.
