I came across these bloody amazing Kahuna Big Sticks earlier today and nearly fell off my chair (although ironically, the purpose of these things is quite the opposite).  The idea behind these Kahuna Big Sticks, is to provide you with grounding when riding your mal skateboard, in order to carve harder than you have ever carved before.  And judging by the pictures, I am guessing these things work…

And if you’re worried about looking like a kook using one of these Longboard Walking Sticks, then don’t worry, this guy is on your side!

But let’s not kid ourselves, it wasn’t Keanu Reeves’ extremely believable kookathon of mishaps in the water that made us keep playing that Point Break video cassette for the 30th time. Hell no – it was all about the hell-man antics of Patrick Swayze, better known as Bodhi, the fearless surf warrior who disappeared into a spectacular ‘Bells Beach’ finale.  In an in-imitable accent Bodhi spoke the words that pumped up groms across the world for years to come….

If you want the ultimate, you gotta be willing to pay the ultimate price.

And if you want the ultimate tshirt, well I think I may have just found it for you.

The Bodhi RIP tee was designed and manufactured by the all Australian label The Critical Slide Society, who are doing some very radical things in surf tshirt land right now. I urge you, in fact, double-urge you to visit their site if you have a couple of spare minutes.  And if you have more than a few minutes, why not treat yourself to another serve of Point Break goodness (you can purchase the Point Break (Pure Adrenaline Edition) for about $7 bucks from Amazon.com – bargain!).

Want proof? (No, not over-proof….just your average proof).

The lads at Jim Beam have started up an online competition called The Break, aimed at giving amateur surfers in Oz the chance to compete professionally. Alls you have to do to enter is upload a 90 second vid displaying your awesome talents, as well as your personality, and you can have a chance to crack the big-time. The competition hasn’t actually kicked off yet, it starts in July, so you have plenty of time to start gathering some footage. When November 2010 hits, public voting will start, with the winner being award a whopping 50 grand ($AUD) of sponsorship goodness from Jim Beam.

Rip Curl, Sanyo, Tracks and Waves are also apparently on-board too, so this comp really is a big deal, and will be well worth entering if you reckon you’ve got the skills to pay the bills.

Nestled centrally on Bondi Road, your first time in Katipo Coffee House will be bewildering. The small cafe is full to the brim of totally unmatched second hand furniture, bits and pieces, and bric-a-brac. The walls are covered in local artwork, gig posters, and the like.

And like every cool place in Bondi, there’s the people watching. Only Sydney’s most iconic beach can guarantee that while sipping your super smooth espresso, a world of colourful, cool, sometimes over the top, beachy, arty, and laid-back Bondi-ites will pass by in droves.

A couple of standouts on the breakfast menu include the asparagus and Parmesan eggs with truffle oil ($16), which have my vegetarian girlfriend going bonkers, and if you’re keen for a sweet treat, the banana bread with caramelised banana, strawberries and yoghurt (at a measly 8 bucks) is a must.

The format of Fishmongers is simplicity first. The interior of Bondi Fishmongers is small, plain, yet stylish… while the meals are large, flavoursome and intensely satisfying!

Similarly, the menu adheres to the ‘keep-it-simple’ principle. It offers just a few choices, but they’re all bloody good! Fish, calamari, and king prawns all accompanied with proper chips are hot contenders for the deep-fryer fans, with a couple of other options such as barbecued octopus or grilled fish of the day for the more health conscious, with a crisp fresh salad instead of chips a waistline-friendly option for a couple of extra bucks.

There’s limited seating, so you might be best off doing it Aussie style and getting takeaway in the signature recyclable cardboard box and sprawling out on the hill amongst the curious and over-fed seagulls.
